Pretty slow
Hi
I've got a pretty old mac running on os 7.5 . It has been in good working condition all this while . Of late , the mouse cursor on the screen does not move freely like it used to . It moves in " frames " and the machine itself feels slow in itself .. I don't know what i can do to make things better, probably a re-installtion (is there a option of archive and install on a OS 7.5 ) . But I do not know as how to re-install the OS .. If somebody could offer suggestions , I'd appreciate ...
Bye

Mano,
You have asked some general questions so I will give some general comments. If your hard drive has filled up and had files deleted, then filled again and more files deleted, the individual bits of information that make up a file become scattered. Installing a clean copy of the system is not enough. Defragmenting the hard drive will help.
Denis asked about other resources you might have. If you have an external hard drive, you can back up your files, reformat the original drive and restore files in the order that they are used most. That should help organize the information on the drive into sectors that are not as random and speed up the time it takes for your computer to find files.
A second cause of halted motion or activity is what is called "wait states." Years ago, my wife turned on the computer and an external zip drive, used the zip and then turned it off. She proceeded to play a computer game. The game was slow and jerking. When she turned off the SCSI zip drive, the computer knew that something was missing and it kept interrupting the game to go look for the missing drive. As soon as she turned power on again to the zip, the game went back to normal. This is an over generalization of one type of waiting that a processor does but it was the most dramatic example of processor delays that I have ever seen.
The computer works faster when everything is properly connected and when search time is minimized. If you have enough RAM, you can create a RAM disk, copy a program into the RAM disk. If that does not speed up your software, then you most likely have hardware issues.
All of these ideas depend on the information Denis asked about. Hope this helps narrow your search for answers.
Jim

Satellite C6070D-10W works pretty slow
TOSHIBA SATELLITE C6070D-10w works pretty slowly.
1) My brand new laptop with factory installed windows 7 and all programs by Toshiba nothing added shows 100% processor usage in task Manager and works pretty slowly. The sum of 80 odd processes shown in task manager never reaches more than 30-50 % but bottom line is always 100%.
2) I upgrade memory + 2 GB so now it's all 4 GB DD3 1333
3) I update new BIOS
4) When is with adapter work CPU with 1500 MHz when i remove adapter cable from laptop is working CPU with 700-750MHZ Tested with CPU-Z
5) I installed new OS installed windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 64 bit + All Drivers for Windows 7 64 bit Sound, chipsed, VGA...... without software Anti virus, disable Microsoft Update I just use Google Chrome when I go to YouTube to see video 360p it's work normal but when I change 480p happen terminated courses 720pHD and 1080pHD interrupted more works pretty slow.
My opinion it's problem with hardware with AMD Processor E-240 APU with AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics problem technique from Factory or where is the problem?Hi
It is not easy to discuss about this theme although you can find numerous threads about similar issues. I would like to have your notebook in front of me, optimize preinstalled OS on my way and check how it works.
In my opinion, best option is usage of original preinstalled OS with specific modification and optimization. Why? Recovery image contains all necessary drivers so hardware will run with full performance. Anything else is individual OS configuration. To be clear, recovery image contains much useless stuff that you can remove from the system; you should also modify start-up option and disable from start all stuff you dont need.
RAM upgrade was very good decision, I just hope you have bought high quality module for upgrade.
When you test video performance try to use high performance power plan. -
Indesign is pretty slow ..
Hi,
I'm Abhijeet. I am using a MacBook Pro 2.2Ghz i7 late 2011 build 4GB RAM 500GB HDD..running Indesign 5.5 on Mac OSX LION 10.7.4.
My problem is that my indesign is pretty slow ... i am working on a book of around 400 pages which is big...but when i check on activity monitor it shows only around 500MB of RAM is being used by Indesign when i have the project opened...usually i have around 1.5GB RAM free...but still my INdesign is pretty slow...any idea??Do you have a lot of cross references?
Things that can be done to speed up ID:
Set Live Screen Drawing (in the prefs) to Never or Delayed, turn off Live Preflight, turn off page thumbnails in the Pages panel, open all involved if you use inter-document cross-references.
Make sure you are patched to version 7.5.3, and do a Save As to clear out old change information. -
I use the best equipped and latest 27" imac
but muse is pretty slow.
edit: and in the last 1 hour i had like 5 or 6 zoom-crashes. :-(Performance is highly dependent on the specific .muse file you.re working on. Its size, complexity and specific content. With a bit more detail about the .muse file you're working on (and/or a link to the URL for the site) we can probably provide some tips for improving performance.
If you have a large image on the page that's cropped on one or more sides, there's a bug within AIR that can result in crashes when zooming in/out. We've made some major changes as part of the upcoming release to address this. Until then you can avoid this crash by pre-sizing and cropped large image that are brought into Muse via File > Place or imported into slideshows outside of Muse. If the image is being used as a Fill image or is not cropped, this bug/crash should not be encountered.
Sorry for the inconvenience. If you'd like to work with the upcoming release, active subscribers who can accept the terms of the Non-disclosure Agreement are invited to join the Adobe Muse Private Beta Program by going to http://museprerelease.com -
My macbook Pro starts up pretty slow...
I dont remember why or how, but my Macbook Pro used to start up in under a minute... now it takes up maybe 4 or 5 minutes...
I was wondering if there was a problem with it or something..
I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world so I come to you guys.
Thanks in advance for any insight or suggestions anyone may come up with.Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a system crash or freeze, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search that archived log, and if necessary the older ones below it, for the same information.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Do the same with kernel.log.
Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -
Ibook running pretty slow....
I have an ibook G4 w/ the super drive. Lately it has been running slower then it used too. I have been through absolutely every thing on how to speed it up from repairing permissions to running the cd that came w/ my ibook to check for hard drive errors. I have been through every forum that I can find on this website and google about tips and tricks on how to speed it up all with no help.
I guess the only option is to get it upgraded. I currently have 512mb of memory will upgrading it to 1 gb help any??? I see the beach ball quite a bit. Help please. This is kind of a late response but I see the question is still open. My wife's G4 ibook 1 Ghz 256 RAM with OS 10.3.9 was so slow in web browsing that she needed an upgrade. I installed 1GB additional RAM and she could find no improvement so she bought a new MacBook Pro, which she loves. Meanwhile, we took the iBook on plane trips and the hard drive finally died. I replaced the drive with a PATA 5400 120 GB 8MB cache drive from FRYS.com for $77 and it now runs three times faster on web pages than it did before. It may even be as fast as the Pro, I can't really tell, but it is fast. How much the RAM helped, I can't say except that without the drive replacement it was nil.

Hello there. I have got a Macbook from early 2007 and I often wonder about how slow it is sometimes, programs get stuck more and more too. What could be the problem and what can I do against it?
Hi
Maybe you're not allowing the periodic maintenance scripts to run. These are little programs which run in the early hours of the morning and perform routine tidying up. Of course, most computers are asleep or turned off at this time so the scripts may never get to run.
You can run them yourself either by using an application like Tiger/Leopard Cache Cleaner or by entering these commands in Console (don't type the $ signs!):
$ sudo periodic daily
$ sudo periodic weekly
$ sudo periodic monthly

How much time does the ipod classic needs to open a song ? For me, it takes about3-4 seconds,i hear a noise and then it opens with the album art ..is it normal?
Thx for helping me!You've got to remember that the Classic uses a physically small (1.8" I believe) and relatively slow drive. As the iPod access music files, artwork, etc. it must first retrieve it from the hard drive. This differs from the Nano, which uses flash memory (not a hard drive). Now, as data on the hard drive changes - adding and deleting music, playlists, podcasts, etc. - files on the drive will begin to fragment; this will also slow some things down.
If you find that the iPod is slowing over time, you can try restoring it then resyncing all of your music. This acts as a reformat and should eliminate fragmented files. *Make sure you have all of your music in iTunes before proceeding since the restore will completely wipe your iPod*.
Another thing you can try is removing your album artwork from the iPod. This means that it only needs to retrieve music, not graphics as well. This should speed up the starting of your songs. -
Dropped my iPhone in toilet and pretty slow now!
Dropped my iPhone in the toilet! I did all the tricks to fix it such as switching it off, drying with a towel and putting in a sealed bag of rice for 48 hours. Everything seems fine, but it's a bit slower than before. Is there anything else that I can do?
Ideally, you would have left it in rice for at least a week before you'd tried using it.
You can try restoring it through iTunes to see if that changes anything, but odds are it has some hardware damage and will eventually give up on you and will need to be replaced.

Download Speed on PIX 515E is Pretty Slow
Hello, I have a PIX 515E set up between our office switch and our Comcast Business Router and the download speeds are not as fast as they should be. We are paying for 30 down 30 up but it's more like 10 down 30 up. I plugged in a computer directly into the router and got 30/30 so I know its not a comcast issue. I think it might be the low amount of memory on the PIX because its running at 109 out of a total 128mb. The PIX has a site-to-site VPN tunnel with a remote ASA 5520 firewall. The inside/outside ports are both auto/auto. The running config is only 161 lines.
Here's some information about the PIX 515E...
Version 8.0(4)
ASDM 6.1(3)

Here is the running config..

Why is my login screen pretty slow?
About a days ago, my login screen would come up immediately whenever I opened my laptop . But now, it takes about a couple of
seconds and I have to sorta tap my enter key or any key to make sure it doesnt go back to its 2nd cover picture.
I've provided a link to what im talking aboutImKervin,
Along the same lines of what was suggested above, you may also want to consider performing a
clean boot.
This could allow you to figure out what is causing your delay by process of elimination.
In addition to the above, try to
reduce the number of unnecessary files or
software sitting on your hard drive. A decrease in performance is noticeable the closer your drive gets to capacity.
Optimizing your hard drive is another way you can improve your computer’s performance.
While it is set by default to run weekly, it couldn’t hurt to check its status.
Hope this helps!

1900 PDF's make ADE pretty slow
Hallo,
I've about 1900 PDF Documents, and Digital Editions takes ages to load and to handle it. Are you going to improve Digital Editions in this way - maybe take a look at Adobe Lightroom, they can handle even bigger numbers of big RAW Photos in avery performant way.
Also tagging should be easier, and some kind of search & selection so that I can get some order into this big number of dcuments.
Best
HeikoTried that. Installed fine, but no difference in result. Can use Quark OK in all functions apart from Export to PDF.

All Forums pretty slow today!!!
I am not able to login to Adobe forums nor read any of the forum posts
today here in cold Sunday night in London, England. The time is 21:33 GMT
The only way to post anything is by email and that too is not reliable
because the messages are trimmed if there is some html/css code with
links to outside websites.
Hope the engineers can rectify this quickly. In AZ, USA, I only saw one little "glitch," when I got logged-out automatically, but speed has seemed about "normal," so maybe it depends on the server node?

IMac mid 2010 slow with 10.9
Hi,
My 2010 imac (i5, 4G mem) has been pretty slow since mavericks - the system seems slow and unresponsive with even simple operations seeming sluggish (my 8yr old core 2 duo laptop with 10.6 was way more responsive).
I came across the thread Re: iMac mid 2010 slow with 10.9 and hoped I might be able to get some advice.
I have previously reinstalled the system from fresh to see if this would help - and while it did for a while it seems to have become slow again.
I tried starting in safe mode and it didn't seem very different. Some operations seemed slower and the window redrawing was really choppy and a bit weird (not sure if this is usual in safe mode?)
I noticed that while I was running EtreCheck and perhaps also Diskutility just now (after running the imac in safemode and then restarting it) that the Finder kept restarting. All the icons would vanish and then reload in the finder window and on the desktop. I haven't seen this before.
I have installed and run EtreCheck and the results are below. If anyone could give some advice that would be really appreciated. Thanks

thankyou for helping. I think I have managed to follow both steps below. The errors that are occurring related directly to the finder crashing - I am not sure if this is related to the general slowness but it would be great to fix.
Thanks
