Prevent automatic downloading of podcasts and purchased episodes

I'm trying to help a Mac owner configure her iTunes so that it doesn't automatically try to download her podcasts and purchased TV episodes. We're running very tight on a bandwidth quota and would like to download these things manually if possible. I know how to do this in iTunes for Windows, but she can't seem to find the same settings in the Mac version. Thoughts or help?
Thanks all.
Scott

Hello, Arkaroola,
To better assist you with this, are the attachments Inline attachments (images in the body of the message) or attached documents?
Attached documents do not automatically download , but inline attachments can, you can stop images from automatically download by completing the following:
In the BlackBerry Hub, tap > Settings > Display and Actions.
Change Download Images Automatically.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks.

• How to prevent automatic download and install of Reader 8.1.2

Hi-
I have Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and I need to keep it as my default Adobe reader program and plug-in for some applications that I use.
Over the last week, Adobe reader 8.1.2 downloads automatically and installs itself in my business laptop (Win XP SP2) and replaces my 7.0.9 version.
Each time I uninstall the 8.1.2 and reinstall the 7.0.9. I ensure the option of automatic download and install is disabled in 7.0.9.
But it still happens I have for the xth time today the new 8.1.2 in my laptop.
Anybody knows what is going on ? And how can I solve this issue to keep my 7.0.9 version ?
Thanks.

That's *not* a good thing to hear.
After the download finishes, do NOT press the Install Now button. Try the following to remove the download from the device. Here's the procedure I came up with last time this happened with iOS 7...It may or may not work.
Re: Apple Forced iOS7 update on my iPad2 !
Afterwards if you succeed, block Apple's update server using the following method so it wont get pushed to the device again:
In your router's settings, set up a block (using Access Restrictions or similar in the router's web interface) to mesu.apple.com. This will prevent the devices from "phoning home" to Apple, checking for the update and getting the download pushed to it again.
Or follow the instructions at this link:

• Don't want iCloud to automatically download my podcasts

Hi,
I am using OS 10.8.5 and iTunes 11.1. I do not have iTunes automatically sync to any OS devices as I do things manually. I also do not use the Podcast App on my phone as I tried it, but did not like it. My problem is that since I downloaded the new version of iTunes my podcasts that I don't download automatically are downlading to iCloud and I do not want them to. This makes my count of unplayed episodes wrong and I have to manually say that I have already listened to these episodes when I haven't even downloaded them to my computer. Is there any way I can get iTunes to stop downloading the podcasts auntomatically to iCloud? I've gone through system preferences and chose iCloud, but I did not see any option for iTunes. I've also checked the preferences in iTunes and turned off show iTunes in the cloud purchases, but this did not solve the problem either.

Click on the More Info button, go to iPhoto's Accounts preference panel on the top bar and delete the MobileMe account. Next to go the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe. That will stop those messages.

• How do I Stop automatic downloads of Movies and Shows... Apparently iTunes will begin downloading every available show or movie I have even after I have told it to delete the shows

I have Season 1 of Elementary. I do not want it downloaded to my laptop. I purchase a new movie and begin the download of the movie. iTunes immediately begins downloading EVERYTHING that I have not downloaded. the Entire Season of Elementary along with all the other Seasons I have and ALL the iTunes Extras that I HATE SO MUCH cause they wont go away. Even when I Hide the iTunes Extras... They still want to download... I have gone thru preferences and settings but can't find any setting to stop this type of action... Anyone have any ideas???

I would try deselecting the options Always check for available downloads, Download pre-orders when available, and Automatic Downloads of Music, Apps and Books, under Edit > Preferences > Store, sign out of the store, clear the iTunes store cache under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and clear the contents of <Media Folder>\Downloads.
In some cases the iTunes Store may remember that you have items waiting to be delivered in your queue. In such cases you will need to ask the store support staff to flush the queue for you.

• How do I prevent automatic downloading of .pdf files?

Hi:
I've noticed previous queries (from 2008 and 2009) asking how to prevent Safari or perhaps Adobe Reader from automatically downloading .pdf files when they open them.
I haven't had this problem recently until today. Previously, I would click a link and the .pdf file would open in a separate window. If I wanted to download the file I would have to select the download icon from the pop-up icons at the bottom of the page.
Today when I click a link to a .pdf file, the file automatically downloads to my Download folder. Adobe Reader is opening the file. In its Internet Preferences, I deselected "Display PDF in browser using. . ." and "Allow speculative downloading. . ." to no effect.
How can I get automatic downloading to stop?
I also selected a .pdf file, pressed Command-I, and in the Open With section of the pane, tried changing from Adobe Reader to Preview and then Safari to get the automatic downloading to stop, but neither choice produced the desired effect.

pjmetz: You say "tried changing from Adobe Reader to Preview and then Safari to get the automatic downloading to stop, but neither choice produced the desired effect." What effect did these changes produce? I am sure they didn't leave things as they were, did they? If they did, and Adobe Reader is strong-arming its way to causing all PDF files to download, try removing Reader and give it a test with no Reader-assist. Oh, I'm not trying to get you to give up on Reader. You can copy Reader to an ext. HDD for safe-keeping, and then trash it from the internal HDD, and empty the trash. Then test Safari. If Safari works correctly without Reader, get your answer from Adobe.com
maxintaft: PDF files cannot be editied easily even on your HDD, mush less in a browser window. Whatever it is you are typing in (or have been typing in previously), it is not a PDF file, so your issue needs a new question, or contact the school site webmaster for help.

• I am a podcaster and my episodes are deleted from itunes

I am a podcaster, and I deleted some of my episodes from the itunes v8 on my computer. Now they no longer show up in the itunes directory. I even go to another computer using itunes and search, and they are gone. How do I get them back?
Thanks

They will not show up on your computer because they don't exist on that computer (you deleted them).
You need to redownload them.
They will not show up on another computer unless they are downloaded to that specific computer.

• HT4009 My daughter downloaded zombie farm and purchased 100 brains - I was billed for the purchase but she never recieved the brains. Three days later I was billed for another purchase of brains that she did not order or recieve - how do I get my account

My daughter downloaded zombie farm and tried to purchase 100 brains - I was billed for the purchase but she never recieved the brains - three days later I was billed for a purchase of 100 brains again even thought no one made the purchase - how do I get a refund?

If you did not receive the "merchandise" then a refund is due. Just click through the support link provided above, fill out the form at the end, clearly state the facts and state them again via reply email.
Also prepare to send copies of the billings and provide the user name associated with Zombie Farm and Game Center (if applicable).
All should work out, but if satisfaction is not received, file a claim with your credit card issuer.

• Jinitiator: prevent automatic download in Internet Explorer

Is there a way to stop IE from automatically downloading Jinitiator? I would like it to display the download page, the way does for mozilla/netscape.
thanks in advance,
Mark

Downloading it thru IE is not going to get you the correct version of Flash. IE uses a different version than other browsers use. Try this:
1.Download the Flash setup file from here:
[http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version].
Save it to your Desktop.
2. Close Firefox using File > Exit
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed,
{XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
* On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen).
See this:
• Is there a way to prevent continuous downloads once one is purchased?

IS THERE A WAY TO STOP CONTINUOUS DOWNLOADS ONCE ONE IS PURCHASED?

Go to Settings>General>Restrictions. Turn Restrictions on by setting up a password. Once you have enabled Restrictions, go to the Require Password selection under Allowed Content, and set the "Require Password" time limit to "Immediately" or to "15 Minutes". Whichever you choose, further purchase of applications will require a password once the time limit has elapsed.

• I've been charged yesterday 1.98 € by Apple Store without making any download or any other request (automatic downloads are disabled) and my iTunes is still empty which means that even by error, I didn't purchase anything. Could you please help?

Apple store charger me without reason and without any download! I checked again my data and all is still empty no music no video no book and no apps.
It's a new iPad which is still empty. Then for sure no error from my side. How can this happen? I'm afraid from it, is there any way to prevent?

Ah. Best guess would be that this is an authorization hold. Authorization holds are usually $1.00 or 1.98 €. Your best option would be to first, check your purchase history to make sure no purchases have been made. Once you're sure, check your bank statement. I'm 90% sure that this is a hold.
Authorization holds are used by most (if not all) online stores to verify that the credit card on your account is valid. If you've recently edited the credit card on your card (changed or added a CC), then this is definitely it. These holds are released by your bank in around 48 hours after the hold was placed. if it's taking longer, then contact your bank to have the hold released.

• Itunes won't copy over some of my podcasts and purchases since I have moved it to an external hardrive

So I Have moved over all my purchases and everything to an external hardrive. I did everything right and my itunes story works perfectly fine. However one of my podcasts (yugioh the abridged series) won't copy over along to the ipod saying its file type is not supported by the ipod. It only does this with the first 8 episodes (if you find it you will see them) one of which (the bbt movie) worked perfectly fine on my ipod before but now for some reason it won't. It also won't work on a few of the tv shows that are in hd and one music album that had american boy in it. I'm wondering what I can do to solve this problem. My itunes and my computer (windows vista operating system) is up to date and I have an ipod classic with plenty of room what should I do.

This doesn't work. The iOS4 upgrade has wiped out synchronization to Outlook to the phone and back. There are many threads on this here, and Apple has yet to address this issue.

• When i select a pdf file for download in a webpage instead of automatically downloading the file and opening it using adobe acrobat I get a new blank window in the browser and it says done in the bottom left corner

when I select a pdf file within a webpage and click to download instead of getting the "download" window and the file automatically opening after download using adobe reader I get a blank webpage (in the same tab) and in the bottom left corner it says"done". No file is downloaded and if I click "back" I just return to the webpage containing the link.

Aha! The properties for the plugin file nppdf32.dll for Adobe Reader indicate the file is for Adobe Acrobat. This misidentification is then used by SeaMonkey as a label in the helper application list.
Adobe Reader 11.0.3.37: nppdf32.dll has version 11.0.3.37. This is the version in SeaMonkey's plugins folder.
Adobe Acrobat 7.0.8.218: nppdf32.dll has version 7.0.9.50.
As for having both Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat on the same PC, this generally works providing Reader is installed AFTER Acrobat. Reader is freeware, and I want to keep it current. Acrobat is purchaseware, and I cannot afford to keep buying upgrades or newer versions.
