Prevent changes if opened in Acrobat PRO

Can I prevent a user from making changes to a pdf file if they try opening it in Acrobat professional?
Thanks!

Let's see you could sit behind them with a huge mallet...
On the serious side, there is password protection for which there are third party programs (some free and some commercial) that will remove password protection quite easily.
There is a digital rights management solution. This is a costly server based solution. Can you say, a minimum of 5 figures and per use charges.
I recommend that most people give up on preventing people from changing files, it is like trying to catch the wind. Just digitally sign the file, then if the file is changed there will be evidence of the change.

• Change page size in Acrobat Pro 6.0

Hello, I'm wondering if there's a way to change page sizes in Acrobat Pro 6.0 for Windows. We are receiving manuscripts which have been assembled from various documents. They're going to be printed at 8.5 x 11, but sometimes some of the pages are 7 x 10. Is there an automated way to change all the 7 x 10 pages to 8.5 x 11? We don't want to have to do each page individually because there are too many of them.
Many thanks,
Coral

You could try printing to a new PDF with the PDF printer, setting the page size to 8.5 x 11 and setting the page scaling option to 'Fit to Printable Area'. This will hopefully leave the existing 8.5 x 11 ones about the same size (it may shrink them slightly) and scale the other sizes.

• InDesign files automatically openning in Acrobat Pro 9.0

I just upgraded to CS3.3 Premium w/Acrobat Pro 9.0 from CS2 and now my ind files automatically open in Acrobat 9.0. Ind files all have the Acrobat 9.0 icon, which I went into properties > opens with to change (ie. program files > Adobe > InDesign CS3) and Windows will not accept the change. Actually when I click "ok" no error message appears, but 'opens with' still shows Acrobat Pro 9.0.
It gets wierder. If I go into properties and change 'opens with' to the IND short cut on my desktop, it changes, however when I attempt to open a ind file I get the error message 'file is not a valid Win32 program.'
I am running XP Media 2005 SP2, on an HP desktop, with an AMD 64 2.4 duo, 4 gigs RAM.
Any else have a similar issue?
Thanks, Anton

Anton,
I to had this problem just today and could not find any good help on file associations. I am running XP Pro on Windows. I uninstalled CS2 and still had CS3 on the computer. All associations for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop went away. The only information I could find did not work.
This is what I did and it worked. I opened Control Panel, then File Options, and then the tab "File Types". I scrolled to the INDD extension and highlighted it. Then I chose the Advanced Tab, selected "new", typed in "Open" for the action and selected the InDesign.exe file. All Indd files associated with InDesign CS3.
I also repeated the same to get the AI and PSD files to associate.
I hope this is the right way to make the change, no guarantees, but so far it is working. Even CS and CS2 file versions show the CS3 logo and open correctly.

• How to change PDF document dimensions - Acrobat Pro 9

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to change the dimensions of my PDF in Acrobat Pro.
The original artwork was created in Illustrator and the final document is primarily for screen use (not print) so was created using pixels (600x665px to be precise). However when the artwork is created into a PDF, when viewed (and printed) in Acrobat, it is rather large and I want to make this smaller.
If anyone can advise on this it'd be much appreciated!
thanks
HS

You might play with the Touchup Object tool off the Advanced Editing toolbar.
Use the tool to select the image. Any of the four corners can be "grabbed" and a mouse drag will let you change the space occupied, on the PDF page, by the image. Not a "fine control" but, sometimes, all that's needed.
Or, in Preferences > Touchup category - the associated configuration pane permits selection of an installed image editor.
Now, using the Touchup Object tool's context menu, you can use the "Edit Image..." selection.
Edit the image and return it to the PDF.
Be well...

• Unable to open Adobe Acrobat Pro after CS4 Design Premium install

I recently purchased Adobe CS4 Design Premium. I attempted to install it Sunday, and it completed with an indication of success. I then tried to open all my applications to make sure everything went well, and Acrobat keeps coming up with the following error: "You can't open the application Adobe Acrobat Pro because it may be damaged or incomplete." I tried to remove it with the uninstaller, and it does not see it. I have tried to install it multiple times. I even swapped out the DVD drive to see if it was having problems reading the disc, but nothing has helped. I even tried to delete it entirely. I currently have a web case open, but they state that can take up to 3 days to be answered. I tried to call technical support, but gave up after an hour on hold. I suspect a bad disc, but I really don't want to have to wait a week or more to get the issue resolved through sending endless emails back and forth with a web case. I was hoping someone would have a good answer to my problem that would not require that. I am trying to install it on a fairly plain OS 10.6.2 system. It is a 2009 Mac Pro Quad with 6GB of RAM. As stated, so far none of the other applications are giving me any issue. It has just been Acrobat Pro.
Thanks.

I ended up finding the probable solution to this problem. I downloaded the trial version of CS4 Design Premium. Seeing that I had already installed CS4, it asked what application I wanted to reinstall. I reinstalled Acrobat. When I opened it the first time, it told me that the licensing server could not be reached. I opened Photoshop, then it again. It has worked fine since then. I have updated it to 9.3.1, so it should be good from here on out.

• Is possible change the title with Acrobat Pro 9?

Hi,
I'm using Acrobat Pro. 9, and i'm programing with C#.
My question is: Is possible change de title in a pdf?
I'm using this two metods and nothing the nothing, the title no change.
---- 1 form ------
PdfStamper pdfStamper = null;
pdfStamper = new PdfStamper(pdfReader, pdfOutputFile);
System.Collections.Hashtable info = new system.Collections.Hashtable();
info["«Title»"] = "";
pdfStamper.MoreInfo = info;
--- 2 form -------
Object ObjTitle = pdDoc.GetInfo("Title");
titulo = Convert.ToString(ObjTitle);
ObjTitle = "";
Regards,
Toni.

It is possible with the Acrobat SDK. You seem to be using iTextSharp, which is not an Adobe product, so you would probably get a faster response on forums that deal with iTextSharp.

• Embedded/browser-based PDFs slow to open in Acrobat Pro 9

I'm trying to load PDFs inside my browser using Acrobat Pro 9 but they take a really long time to open. I've done a repair of Acrobat and rebooted but to no avail. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Had the same problem on Windows XP after Installing Patch 9.3.3.
The problem could be solved by reseting the user settings.
Rename the following REGKEYS:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Acrobat Reader
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Adobe Acrobat
to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Acrobat Reader_Old
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Adobe \ Adobe Acrobat_Old
The keys are created at the next start with the basic settings.

• Change default opening to Acrobat and not Reader

How to do? I have opened several pdfs via right click, Open as Acrobat Professional. It doesn't default to that preference. When I double click on a pdf, it always opens in Reader.

Disable Reader in the task list (it tends to run in the background and capture the PDF. Also, right click on the file and select open with - chosing Acrobat. If that does not fix the problem, you will have to go back into Explorer and fix the file associations.

• File keeps saying "damaged and can not be opened" when opened by acrobat pro 7

I can open the file just fine(using reader version 9 or acrobat professional version 9). However, when other people try to open the file with acrobat professional 7, it gives them an error. They are forced open it with acrobat reader.
I changed the version of the file to all lower versions that didn't cause a loss in functionality and ran into the same problems.
Any ideas?

Adobe Acrobat Plug-In Version 5.00 for Netscape is what you have installed.
That is a very old version ''(released in May 2001)'', before Firefox was even a glimmer in Mozilla's eyes. It may not be compatible with Firefox 5.0 and it is extremely vulnerable to numerous exploits.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Acrobat#Security
I suggest that you upgrade to the latest Adobe Reader X ''(version 10.1)'', and see if that problem goes away.
• Cannot open Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 in Windows Vista

I can no longer open my Adobe or use it in any way.
All of my other CS4 programs operate fine, and this is not a licensing issue.
A little Microsoft Window pops up and says that Adobe Acrobat 9.1 has stopped working.
It will shut down and contact me when the issue is resolved.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for your help. AA9 would not open at any time for any thing; when
I tried to open a PDF file, when I tried to create a PDF file with word or
excel or when I tried to open the icon on my desktop.
I took your advise and cleaned my registry and reinstalled. I also made
Adobe Reader 9 my default PDF reader. However, although I can create PDFs
from word or excel (with it still stopping as soon as the document has been
converted), I still cannot open AA9 to create a new portfolio or add to an
existing or open the icon on my desktop. I have tried to repair the
application but with the same results.
Any ideas? And thanks again for your help.

• Can't open adobe acrobat pro 9.

same error as others have written about without solution for a few years. Error message says it was installed as part of suite, I need to activate another program in the suite first. I've done this several times to no avail. Any help? Opens for about 5 seconds then error message appears and closes program.

No product should force security on its users without providing them any practical way to override. Web browsers, email clients, and operating systems warn you of potentially dangerous files and then let the client make the choice. What if it's a zip file from a trusted source full of harmless text documents? Too bad - because Acrobat says so. Acrobat makes no attempt to examine the zip file to see if perhaps its contents are dangerous - it just sweepingly decides zips are far too dangerous to let the user have any voice in the matter. I fundamentally disagree.
Notice that I've attached a zip file to this post. Adobe allows zips on their forums but not in their PDF documents. Adobe: If you've deemed zip files safe enough to be hosted and delivered in your own forums, why have you decided they have no place in a PDF?
I think Adobe got this one wrong - and I cast a vote that they loosen the noose on zip files on a future release. I'd like to hear other users' thoughts on this issue. Adobe is good at listening to their users - so tell them what you think on this issue - I've posted this article as a feature request here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/520515 - reply to it that thread and share your viewpoint.
Cheers,

• Can i Chang PDF file using Acrobat Pro (CS5)?

Can i manipulate a PDF file - Delete elments, or delete elements with backgroung without changing the beckground?

It depends a lot on how the file was created. If it's a scan, for example, then your editing options are very limited.
In any case, I recommend you upgrade to the latest version (Acrobat XI), where the editing tools are much more powerful than in previous versions.

• I cannot open Adobe Acrobat Pro. There is a pink "X" on the Uninstaller. I don't know how to cancel UNINSTALL, if that is the problem.

I am using a MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.5

For general browsing on an older powerPC Mac, you'd need to get a supported browser, one that sees current or recent updates for security reasons; so that is one thing. You could get and install anything from the internet.
But you probably do not have a virus.

A good browser for a powerPC computer running up to 10.5.8, is TenFourFox. Or iCab. Or SeaMonkeyPPC. With some of these you can set up an email account, & those may be more secure than older Mac Mail. You can also be sure the settings in a browser or email client application do not automatically open attachments or downloads, until you determine what they are through investigation.
If you got an idea to download free applications from untrustworthy sites, or wanted to clean up your mac, etc using some dubious software, then an 'adware' may be installed. Some kinds of items you may seek to download or that were attachments on an email, can be dealt with in several ways. Safe browsing, near paranoid use of email, and if you use a web-based email, use a secure browser to visit it, login online, and do not have unnecessary cookies or features set in the browser.
What OS X version does your PowerBook have running?
What are you using for a web browser? Safari is unsupported.
Good luck & happy computing!
