Prevent documents opening full screen

Is there a preference (or file) that can be set/modified to prevent all documents from opening full screen? Opening a 100x30 pixel image and have it cover my entire cinema display is not helpful. Thanks!

- Just upgraded to CS4 on a Mac...
- Turned off "Open new documents as tabs"... I like to have multiple files open so I can see them all at once.
I made a big upgrade from Fireworks 8 to CS4, and what I liked about the old version was that opening a small image would open an appropriately sized window. Now, even if my file is an image that's 10px by 10px, the entire screen is covered. Actually, I just ran an experiment opening an image that is 200px by 26px. In Fireworks 8, the window opened to 331px by 282px. In CS4 Fireworks, the window opened to 1606px by 1072px. I'm forced to resize the window every time I open a file.
Thanks!

With Adobe Acrobat (not Adobe Reader) you can set the initial view of PDF documents.

  • Reader XI do NOT want opening FULL SCREEN!

I am running Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.2 on a Dell Windows 7 workstation with dual monitors.  We generally have a dozen applications open and we bounce all around between them.  Whenever I open a PDF document which ever monitor it was opened on last, it will open maximized on the display.  I do *NOT* want it to open maximized and I have searched high and low, tried setting Preference settings for Full Screen, Documents, everything I can find and no matter what I do, as soon as I open a PDF it's full screen.  I can get it to change how the document appears in the full screen view, like fit page or zoom to width, but it always opened FULL SCREEN!
How do I turn this feature OFF?!?!?!?!?!

I think I found the cause of the issue.  In my case, I use the Adobe Customization Wizard XI to create a transform file for installation.  One of the options I have enabled is under Direct Connect.  Under the "Property" table I have the option DISABLE_BROWSER_INTEGRATION set to YES.  I originally set this value because I didn't want PDFs to open within IE in my environment, I wanted it to open in Acrobat.  I found that in version XI, the usual place to control this setting within Acrobat was no longer there.  In previous versions, I would go to Edit > Preferences > Internet and enable/disable the option to "Display PDF in browser".
The workaround that I have done for now is create a separate transform file with the option set to NO.  I uninstall Acrobat and reinstall it with the new transform file.  To prevent PDFs from opening within IE, I have to go into Manage add-ons within IE and disable the "Adobe PDF Reader" add-on.  The problem is that disabling the add-on within IE is profile-specific, which means that if I have multiple users that share the same computer, I will have to change that setting for each user, which is a bit inconvenient.
I was hoping that this setting would be as easy as finding it in the registry somewhere and changing it there, but no such luck for me.  I looked over the registry and didn't see where the key or value was located.  Hopefully someone else with more knowledge than me can solve this puzzle.

  • Word docs don't open full screen on iBook

My brother, up in Maine, I'm in NY, has an iBook with Word X on it. (I don't know the version of OSX he has but he probably hasn't updated it since he bought it... I am not sure of the model of his iBook either. I can find out.) His main complaint is that Word documents don't open full-screen (once he drags the window to fill the screen) upon reopening or with new blank documents.
I am wondering if Word doesn't like certain screen resolutions. I don't know what he is using now but I have suggested he try some others. Does anyone know if Word docs won't act right under certain screen resolutions? Or if it is something else, what can we do so that docs open fully.
He bought the Mac thinking it was easier to use but this one thing has kept him from using it at all! He is using this for his business, a used book shop, and would use Word to list books. I hope to fix this so he can see the value of the Mac.
    Cheers,
    John
(who's been using Macs for years.)

We really need to know which version of the OS he is using, and the iBook model would be good to know, too.
You may want to poke around on Microsoft's Mactopia and see if there are some hints for him there.

  • On Clicking Entrance hyberlink, wanting Flash to open Full Screen

    Hi,
Hopefully, someone can offer their expertise-
If you go to my website "entrance" page, you will notice the
"flash" side of my site as "Studio Entrance".
In the html code, I would like to have the visitor to the
site, click on "Studio Entrance" and then the flash site open FULL
    SCREEN.
Because the images are 900x600, I need as much screen real
estate as possible. I notice that even though some computers are
1024x768, sometimes they have to "scroll" to the bottom of the
flash site to see the links.
    PLEASE HELP!
If you view the page source on the index page, you will of
    course, see the coding.
I attempted to insert your suggestions to another user but no
    luck.
My email address is: [email protected]
    I sincerely appreciate your help.

    The flash swf has
    'width="1000" height="700"
You could set it to width 100%
Has its merits and demerits. Test it on different resolutions
    and see if it
    works for you
The flash swf file has a height of 700px. Most users will end
    up having to
scroll. Same for the page with the pic.
You could put the navigation links both at the top and
    bottom. Regardless
with a height of 700px, viewers with 800x600 px resolution or
    even 1024x768
will not see the entire flash content. Should try and not
    exceed height of
450 px or 500px. Would also reduce the size of the file
You cannot lose until you give up !!!

  • Since upgrade to 3.6.7 the emoticons window on a forum I use always opens full screen, not as a small window. How can I get it to open as a small screen again.

Since upgrading to 3.6.7, when I go to a forum I'm active on and click the emoticons icon in the reply box, the emoticons window opens full screen, and not as a small screen like it did before. I can click on the box to make it small again, but next time I open it, it's back to full screen. Ok, not a major problem, but really rather annoying. I've tried to find a way to get it back to opening the way it did before, but to no avail. Does anyone know how I can solve this little problem?
    == I upgraded to 3.6.7

No-one got any ideas on this then? It's definitely a firefox problem, as when I open the forum page (mentioned in the OP) with Opera or Chrome, the emoticons window opens as a small window, same as FF used to before the upgrade.

  • How to make apps. open full screen at start up in Mavericks?

    Hi everyone,
Last week i just bought a mac & im new to mac osx. i just wanted to know when i put some apps like calendar to start at login,i put them in full screen mode but when i restart osx, it will open in regular window not full screen, interesting thing is, some apps like mail & utorrents open full screen at start up but some apps like safari & calendar dont,
is there any way to make any apps to open in full screen at start up or even when everytime u open app from dock. i searched google but couldnt find any real solution for this issue.
if you help me ill be gratful, sorry for my bad eng.
    Thankx

If you want to open all applications you want in full screen, open the apps and put them in full screen. Then, go to System Preferences > General, and untick "Close windows when quitting an application".
By doing this, when you reopen the apps they will open at the point where you left them when you closed them (in full screen)

  • Don't want DW6 to open new documents in Full Screen? How can I do this?

I have read a few posts and there doesn't seem to be an answer yet. Thought I'd bring this to the forefront and see if anything new has been discovered.
When I open my first html document it always opens in Full Screen, which is huge (wide), covering everything else on my desktop (which I use in conjuction with DW). I have to find the tiny little bottom lower right corner (usually close to and almost hidden by the Dock) and drag the window to a workable size. Obviously a new html page is never the width of the full wide screen, so why does DW assume this is a workable size? We all use the Abode products because they work together with each other, which are usually open and working on your desktop as well. Someone at Adobe didn't think this out!

No Nancy, everything opens just fine, the issue is the document window opens up full-screen behind everything (all my panels are there on top). The window is obviously upworkable until I scale it to fit in the rest of my viewable space. An html page is centered in this wide-screen upon opening, effectively being partially covered with tabs and panels. The outside space that the full screen window takes up is nothing but a solid color, covering useful space where I want to see my panels, some desktop for other apps if I wish etc. So effectively I have to resize the full screen window down, to the edges of the "workable" html designated space, which is all I need to see. Not 8" of a blank, useless window on each side, covering everything else.  I would assume most of us web designers are using and viewing other apps, windows etc. on their desktop at the same time. If nothing else you can't even work on the html page until you resize it i order to see the panels which cover it. In PS for instance once you size a document window the program remembers the size on your screen and position where it opened last.

  • Document windows open full screen

    Hi,
Trying to avoid using the application frame as I don't like the way it stays open and visible when all Dreamweaver documents are closed (even if DW is in the background.)  So I have Application Frame (under Window menu) deselected...but everytime I open an html page to edit it opens the full width of the screen.  Anyway to set Dreamweaver to remember how wide windows were previously and have them open to that width which I set?
    Thanks,
    Rick

    Rick Lupert wrote:
It seems strange though that Dreamweaver would assume I want to see a web page full screen...
Dreamweaver CS6 introduced the Application Frame to bring it into line with other Creative Suite programs. Some Mac users like it. Others loathe it with passion. If you don't like the way Dreamweaver now works, submit a feature request as I suggested earlier.
However, I have discovered a way to get the Mac version of Dreamweaver CS6 to open files at a smaller size. Whether it suits your preferred workflow is a different matter.
Turn on Application Frame and resize Dreamweaver so that it doesn't fill your monitor. Go to the Dreamweaver menu, and select Preferences. In the General category, deselect the option to open documents in tabs.
Now when you open a document, it will be floating, and will be only large enough to fit in the resized Application Frame. You won't be able to access other programs or files behind the Application Frame unless you minimize Dreamweaver. But if you locate the Application Frame away from other documents that you might want to access, it will give you freedom to switch between programs and keep the size of the Document window more manageable.
Of course, it's not exactly what you want, but it might make your workflow a little easier.
By the way, this is a user-to-user forum, not Adobe support. So, if you want Adobe to take notice of your requirements, use the form I suggested earlier.

  • HT3771 Previewing a document in full screen before printing?

How do i preview a pdf doc in full screen before i print it (or any document for that mater)?
I need to check that i can see all the pages before i print it, as i am printng 6 slides on one page.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
There are lots of useful tool 'buttons' available in Preview that are not included in the default toolbar.
Open a multi-page document in Preview, and then select Tools, Customize Toolbar.
I find Print, Actual Size, Zoom to Fit, and Page (number) to be useful when viewing, editing, and printing multi-page pdfs.
Be sure to drag the lower left corner of the pdf Preview window to full size or click the double-arrow to see all the tool buttons you've added.
If you view a multi-page pdf with the Sidebar visible in the right column, you'll have the advantage of seeing page thumbnails and still able to check the full-size document in the left window.
I use the Actual Size button to quickly zoom the left window, but you can also click the '+' button to increase the document to 100% size, to verify the contents of each page.
Clicking the 'Print' button seems to take away all of that, showing only a thumbnail of the each page again.
    BUT...
click the pdf button at the bottom left of the screen, and select 'Open PDF in Preview'
I know this seems redundant, but it reopens the document in a scrollable (6-image per page) view where you can still zoom AND has a 'Print' button at the bottom that will start the printing immediately, once you're satisfied with the result.
    Hope that helps.

  • 6.0.1 update lost default window sizing and all windows open full screen now, why and how do I get my original window sizes back?

After updating Firefox to version 6.0.1, all browser windows open in full screen size. I need new browser windows to open in their original default size since I use a website for work that opens multiple browser windows.
I used to be able to fix this problem by renaming my localstore.rdf file in my profile and then restarting Firefox but this does not seem to work in this last update.
This appears to be a recurring problem for Firefox and it's extremely frustrating.

Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', themes ('''Appearance''') and '''Plugins''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. So it could be that an extension is causing it. You can try to isolate it starting with script blockers and similar extensions and '''Disable''' or '''Remove''' it.
Please also note that safe mode also disables hardware acceleration: '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''': '''Use hardware acceleration when possible'''.

  • Safari opening full screen, then automatically opens iTunes. Application ribbon on side of screen is inaccessible.

Software was automatically installed on my i7 Mac during the last two weeks.  Now the Mac is using MOS 10.7.4 and Safari 6.0.
Since Safari 6.0 installed on my i7 Mac last week, I have had four problems:
    1)  Sarari now opens showing full screen, completely covering my desktop. ( I don't want this; I want to easily see my desktop.)
    2)  Upon opening, Safari shows the last page I visited.   (In preferences I have clearly requested that Safari always opens with a blank search screen; however, Sarari ignores my request.)
    3)  Within seconds iTunes opens and becomes dominant.  (I do not want iTunes to open unless I purposefully order it to open.)
    4)  During the above three steps, my application ribbon, located on the left axis, is inaccessible to me...the cursor does not cause the ribbon to become visible.
Apple, I hope you can remedy this situation.
Any suggestions from others in the Mac Community?

Press the escape (esc) key to exit full-screen mode. Close all windows. Quit and relaunch Safari. Does the same thing happen?
