Prevent firefox update from requiring reboot

There must be a way to configure firefox to not require a reboot to complete updates. I've actually stopped using firefox because of this.

I think this could be related to your Windows user privileges. I run with a high level of privileges, and I installed Firefox as myself (not as administrator). Maybe that's why I never need to restart Windows to update Firefox? Hopefully another volunteer more experienced at troubleshooting permission issues can sort it out for you.
By the way, do you use the "background service" method of updating? These articles describes that option:
* [[What is the Mozilla Maintenance Service?]]
* [[Advanced settings for accessibility, browsing, system defaults, network, updates, and encryption]] (see Updates section)

  • I think I downloaded a fake Firefox update from supportfirefox.perl.sh - ever since I have had I/E popups and now audio playing with no programs running. What do I do?

    I use the Firefox Google as my homepage. I searched for something and it went to the "you need to update your firefox" so I did...then I realized that it wasn't processing the update the way a normal update from Firefox would. Ever since then, I have had Internet Explorer PopUps and now I have audio running even though there is no program for it to be running on...like a webpage running in the background.

    Do a full scan with your Anti-Virus application.
    Then do scans with different Malware applications.
    Install, update, and run these programs in this order. '''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware.)''''' They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />

  • Is there a recent firefox update that requires that I turn off my mvirus protection?

    I have been receiving a Firefox update request stating that to install I must turn off my virus protection. Is this a real update request? Is there a way to get the update without turning off my virus protection?

    You're not reading that update message completely or understanding exactly what would be disabled. Firefox only disables incompatible add-ons, not anti-virus programs.

  • Sorry to repost, but there were no replies... Preventing app updates that require iOS 4...

    I have a 1st Generation iPod Touch, is there a way to prevent iTunes from recommending I upgrade my apps when the new upgraded app would require iOS 4? I've already lost 2 apps to this problem.

    Hello
    I think i have a similar problem to this. When i updated my iPod 2nd generation last week because i required it I found after it was all installed correctly that my apps did not work properly. For example, when i want to play a game it loads up for the first 5 seconds and then goes black and then goes back to my homescreen - AND this happens to every single app i have. It even happens when im on safari after a while. I honestly have no idea what has happened to it but before this occured it was working perfectly fine. I just know that this has something to do with the update because during the update the software was not downloaded properly and so i had to repair iTunes and re-install it.
    Please HELP, i dont want my beloved iPod to break

  • Preventing JTree updates from uncompleted JTable edits

    Hello there!!
    I have an applet that displays an xml file in a JTree. Each node of the table represents specific elements of the xml file (some are not displayed by design). Also on the applet is a JTable that updates the displayed information depending on what node of the tree is clicked. The information displayed in the table includes names and values of attributes and names and values of xml elements not displayed in the JTree.
    I can edit values in the table and update that tree effectively, so that is not a problem.
    The problem I have is that if the user enters a value in the table, does not press enter and then clicks on another tree node, the entered value is copied into the new tree node. I would like to ignore all values if the user does not specifically press enter.
    I have seen some code examples in previous posts that partially work, but can't get the entered values to be totally ignored.
    I'm currently using the following code to handle the 'didn't press enter' bug.
            table.getEditorComponent().addFocusListener(
                    new java.awt.event.FocusListener(){
                public void focusGained(java.awt.event.FocusEvent e) {}
                public void focusLost(java.awt.event.FocusEvent e){
                    if ( table.getEditingRow() > -1 &&
                            table.getEditingColumn() > -1 ){
                        ((javax.swing.DefaultCellEditor)table.getCellEditor()).stopCellEditing();
            });So my question is: How do I prevent the value entered in the table cell from being copied to the newly clicked on tree node? Any assistance would be great.
    Thanks (even just for reading!)
    Simon
    PS. When are we going to see the back of the stupid censorship in this forum?

    Not too sure if this will help but here goes...
    Normally in a JTable, editing is automatically stopped when the enter key is pressed so there is no need to do anything special there. If you don't want editing to stop when the mouse is clicked elsewhere in the table, what you should do is call cancelEditing() instead of stopEditing() in your focusLost method.

  • Failed firefox update from 2 to 3.6.3 Zandros

    I'm using Linux Xandros on the eeepc and I have firefox 2. When I try to download firefox 3.6.3 it fails because it says "/tmp/firefox-3.6.3.tar.bz2 could not be opened because the associated helper application does not exist, change association in preferences" I have no idea what to do. Help this lost semi-illiterate computer senior. Thanks

    I had GB1 and iDVD4 on my iMac running 10.3.9, and GB2 and iDVD5 on my iBook running 10.4.7. I wanted to upgrade GB (to be able to use iControl) and iDVD (because v4 stopped working after an Apple update to QuickTime) but the iMac wouldn't allow the use of the iBooks install disks (not surprisingly) so I simply copied the two applications over: they work perfectly well. Just as an experiment I tried copying iMovie over and it wouldn't open on the iMac (probably requires some support files) - I didn't need it anyway, just experimenting.
    It's probably against the licence to copy iDVD in this way, but since v4 stopped working thanks to Apple's update (an incompatibility they have shown no sign of dealing with) I don't really care.

  • How can I prevent Firefox Sync from syncing home page?

    I use different home pages at work and at home and I would like to prevent the home page from syncing.

    There are services.sync.prefs.sync prefs related to which prefs to sync and you can set the corresponding services.sync pref to false to prevent syncing that pref.
    You can set the pref <b>services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.homepage</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
    If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
    *Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
    *Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
    *Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • Deadline date preventing project update from PWA interface

    We have the following error when trying to update a project PDP through PWA. "An error has occurred when saving your project to the server. Please contact your administrator for assistance."
    We have identified in the project schedule one task that is the origine of the problem. In this task, there is a deadline date. If we remove the deadline date, we can update the project from PWA without any problem.
    The task has a deadline date and is completed at a 100%.
    If someone has an explanation for this, I will be happy to hear it.
    Mermoz

    We are using project server 2010.  We have SP2 installed. I don't know CU last applied.
    We have this issue with one project. I can't reproduce the problem with another project.
    If a remove the Deadline Date and publish, then, PWA update works fine.
    If I add back the Deadline Date and publish, then, we get the same error message.
    Next, I will try to add back a different "Deadline date" and will report the result.

  • How do I prevent Security Updates from overwriting (custom) PHP install?

    Hi,
    I've been forced into re-installing PHP from binaries after every Apple Security Update that upgrades PHP and I'm over it. Everytime Apple upgrades PHP, "their" compile overwrites mine and I lose my libraries. I have to completely wipe the Apple PHP install and re-compile. I've done this 3 or 4 times now in the past couple years...
    Is there any way to force the Security Updates to retain the install of "my" libraries? What about the update installer(s)? Where are they?
    12" PB 1.25   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    An Update shouldn't affect PHP, this is a server side language that is stored on the server for the implamintation of Dynamic Web Pages.
    Self-referentially short for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, an open source, server-side, HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages.
    In an HTML document, PHP script (similar syntax to that of Perl or C ) is enclosed within special PHP tags. Because PHP is embedded within tags, the author can jump between HTML and PHP (similar to ASP and Cold Fusion) instead of having to rely on heavy amounts of code to output HTML. And, because PHP is executed on the server, the client cannot view the PHP code.
    PHP can perform any task that any CGI program can do, but its strength lies in its compatibility with many types of databases. Also, PHP can talk across networks using IMAP, SNMP, NNTP, POP3, or HTTP.
    PHP was created sometime in 1994 by Rasmus Lerdorf. During mid 1997, PHP development entered the hands of other contributors. Two of them, Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans, rewrote the parser from scratch to create PHP version 3 (PHP3).

  • How can I prevent Firefox profiles from becoming large and taking up space on the C drive for each user?

    I have many users logged into a Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Server (Terminal Server) and all of them use Firefox. Each one of their profiles get very large due to their Firefox profiles.

  • New WRT610Nv2 router preventing Windows Update from functioning properly

    I have installed my new WRT610Nv2 router and everything is great except 1 thing. It does not allow Windows Vista Update to run successfully. The update process runs automatically, identifies the updates, but gives an Error Code 646 after it appears to run through the whole process. Even after my PC security and the Router Firewall are completely disabled, the update process is not able to complete successfully. I have since manually downloaded the updates and installed them, but I want to avoid doing this for every update.
    What do I need to configure on my router to allow the Windows Update process to complete automatically.

    Yes, I have completely disabled my firewall and security software on my PC and tried it. All my updates worked cleanly up until I installed the router. I use Norton Internet Security v17, and I my ISP is Rogers via cable.
    Its difficult to pinpoint because Windows Update was able to scan my PC and determine which updates were needed (This would not happen with my firewall enabled), and the 3 updates appeared to run straight through to the end. I will try the laptop (wireless) but its still running XP.
    I figure that there is some option on the router that I have not set that is interfering in the process. I installed the updates manually so at this point all I can do is wait until the next set of patches to recreate the problem.

  • How can I prevent Firefox from automatically updating?

    Hello,
    I am trying to prevent Firefox 28 from automatically updating to Firefox 29 (on OSX 10.7.5).
    I have the option "Never check for updates" checked under 'Update' in the 'Advanced' Preferences. I have "Automatically update Search Engines" unchecked. I have uninstalled Firefox 29 completely using two separate uninstall clean-up kits and emptied the trash before re-installing Firefox 28... Yet every time I finally re-arrange, customize and re-sync Firefox 28 back to the way I like it, I restart my Mac and Firefox 29 rears it's over-drawn, bubbly, space-wasting, UN-SYNCED, ridiculous tabs on top nonsense user interface.
    I've tried to work with Firefox 29 but the new SYNC simply does not work and that's a deal breaker. I need the changes I make on my mac to be reflected across the other two systems on my desk (one WinXP, one Win7) and vice versa. When I try to sync on FF29 it takes me to a page to log in and then refuses to recognize my email and password (which I have thoroughly confirmed on my other systems as correct).
    Can you please help me prevent Firefox 28 from automatically updating to Firefox 29?

    Thank you for your comments, cor-el.
    Yes, I know about Classic Theme Restorer, but the point is what gives Mozilla the right to update my Firefox when I already have quite clearly set every option to prevent automatic updates?
    I have set:
    app.update.auto - false
    app.update.enabled - false
    app.update.silent - false
    So which secret magic setting has Mozilla used to bypass all these settings and what gives them the right to do it?
    Also, moving the tabs bar and menu bar and whatever else has been moved in Firefox 29 is a THEME change. It is not a security fix. Mozilla should not be in the business of changing the theme or look of Firefox. It is not their business how I want my Firefox to look.
    Regarding "tabs", I have mine down the left side, so this tweaking of the tab bar position is pointless anyway.
    To Mozilla, Just for absolute clarification, there is no way you can possibly justify forcing an update on users computers without their explicit acceptance.
    What if someone found out how Mozilla forced the update? They could then force an update that is NOT a genuine Firefox release and do untold damage to peoples' computers.
    So now I am forced to delete Firefox from my startup script and start it manually just in case their is another forced update that I can stop.
    To cor-el, thank you for your post.
    To Mozilla, you have lost the plot.
