Prevent jerky video from Vixia HF R42 on PC

I'm trying to take photos of dogs running at agility trials and at the dog park.  The videos are coming out horribly jerky, even when the dogs are going slow.  I get at most 2 seconds of smooth video then it pauses and jumps ahead several frames.  I've tried many different camera settings and software to download the videos to my PC.  I'm wondering if zooming is what's causing the jerkiness.  I need to be able to zoom while shooting and this is getting extremely frustrating.
I just looked at the videos in camera and they're fine.  It seems to be a problem once they're downloaded to my Win7 64 bit PC using the Canon provided SW OR Adobe Premiere Elements 10.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Puparazzi!
Thank you for posting.
Playing back HD video on a computer requires a certain amount of system resources, so other systems may be much better at playing it back smoothly than others.
What are the general specifications of your computer? (ie. CPU, RAM, Video Card, Hard Drive, etc.)
Are there any other programs running at the same time you try to play back the video?
Have you tried playing back the video on another computer?

  • Converting the videos (from Vixia HF M40) to standard definition on a Mac (10.6 OS X)

    How do you convert the videos (from Vixia HF M40) to standard definition, for the Mac computers (10.6 OS X)?

    Hi venetiakelley!
    Thank you for posting.
    Canon does not make conversion software, but there are 3rd party applications available that do convert video files from one format to another.  You can try doing an internet search for applications that will convert from one format to another.
    However, there should not be a need to convert the video to a standard definition format to be able to view it on your Mac.  Even Apple's own iMovie should support the files that come from the VIXIA HF M40 depending on the version you have installed.  If you are using iMovie and experiencing some trouble opening the files, I recommend that you contact Apple directly for further assistance with iMovie.  They may have some more information about the trouble you are experiencing.

  • Shaky Video With Vixia HF R42

    Hey folks. I recently purchased the Vixia HF R42. Great little camera. I like the quality of video I'm getting. I have one major issue however. My main use for the camera is videographing trains. I use a tripod, a nice little Manfrotto model. My issue is that as the train passes, the train sends vibrations through the ground, and this shakes the tripod only a little. My previous model, the FS100, didn't pick these vibrations up at all and always gave me smooth video. This was with the image stabilization completely off. With the stabilizer off on the R42, it looks like the camera is having a seizure at best. With the image stabilization on, standard, powered, or dynamic, the video is slightly less shaky, but there is no difference between the different versions of IS. I'm looking for suggestions on how to cure this issue seeing as I didn't have it with my FS100. I used a friend's much heavier tripod today. It made a bit of a difference, but not significant enough to get me to shoot with it all day. Any insight and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    John

    Hi NW_1218,
    The motion you're seeing is probably caused by the Image Stabilizer.  I recommend turning it off or setting it for the "Tripod" mode, as shown below:
    During (Auto) and (Baby) mode, the IS icon will change depending on the shooting situation.
    In other shooting modes, you can set the image stabilization manually.
    The different Intelligent IS marks in (Auto) mode and how to set the image stabilization are listed below.
    Intelligent IS
    NOTE
    Set automatically when the [Camera Mode] is set to (Auto), or (Baby) mode.
    Icon Shooting method
    (Dynamic IS)
    Most general situations; Zooming out (zooming toward W); Following subjects at a distance moving left or right
    (Powered IS)*
    Zooming in (zooming toward T)
    (Macro IS)
    Close-up of a subject
    (Tripod mode)
    Remaining stationary, such as when using a tripod
    * You can turn off Powered IS through the [ Main Functions] panel.
    Setting the image stabilization mode
    IMPORTANT
    When the [Camera Mode] is set to [ ] (Auto) or [ ] (Baby) mode, this setting cannot be made. Please make the setting in either [ ] (Cinema), [ ] (Special Scene) or [ ] (Program AE).
    1. Turn on the camcorder.
    2. Touch [ ].
    3. Drag your finger left/right to bring the [Other Settings] menu to the center, and then touch the icon to open it.
    4. Drag your finger up or down to bring [Image Stabilizer] into the orange selection bar, and then touch the button.
    5. Touch desired IS mode.
    IS mode Shooting method
    Dynamic
    Compensates for a higher degree of camcorder shake, such as when shooting while walking, and is more effective as the zoom approaches full wide angle.
    Standard
    Compensates for a lower degree of camcorder shake, such as when shooting while remaining stationary, and is suitable for shooting natural-looking scenes.
    Off
    Use this setting when the camcorder is mounted on a tripod.
    6. Touch [ ].

  • Is there a way to prevent pictures/video from uploading to iCloud photo library from my iPhone and just have pictures/video from my Macbook in Photos upload to iCloud Photo Library?

    I would like just my imported photos and video in the Photos App to be synced to my iCloud Photo Library, and not the photos and video from my iPhone. Is there a way to do this?

    You can either sync them back to your iPhone is you have them saved on a computer, or you can restore from a backup if you have one.  Those would be about your only options. iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    This can also be a problem with session restore.<br />
    Firefox stores session data every 10 seconds to make it possible to restore a crashed session.<br />
    If you have (security) software that interferes with that or have many tabs open then that cause cause a delay.<br />

  • Prevent flash video from playing automatically

    Hi,
    I know extremely little about Flash, and have been sent a completed SWF file, which I have inserted into my webpage with the code below.
    The problem is that it starts playing automatically. Is there some way that I can add a parameter to the code below so that the video doesn't start automatically, or will the SWF file need to be re-created?
    Thanks very much
    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="480" height="396" id="myflash_player" align="middle">
    <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
    <param name="movie" value="myflash_player.swf" />
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />
    <embed src="myflash_player.swf" quality="high" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="480" height="396" name="myflash_player" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
    </object>

    the swf will need to be re-created or, another swf can be created that loads myflash_player.swf when you want.

  • How do I prevent flash videos from automatically playing?

    Whenever I open a new link to youtube, collegehumor, various tv websites, etc. firefox always automatically starts playing the video even before i even look at that tab. Sometimes when firefox freezes I have a few video tabs open and when it starts back up, a few videos start playing at once.
    Is there a way to turn this off? I'd like to manually control when these videos play.

  • How do I prevent several videos from loading all at once?

    I have designed a website for an actor, and on one page there are many video clips of his performances. The problem is, when a viewer opens the page, all the videos start loading simultaneously, causing poor performance.
    How would I set the page so that each video would start loading only after the viewer clicks on a particular video?
    Thanks.

    QuickTime movies load by default. With or without autoplay.
    With a lot of movies on a page there's a lot of loading....
    Here's how you can do it the easy way :
         Export/Save QT movie for web
    Or this way :
         HTML5 Video
    Or this way :
         Culture Club Movies
    But that one requires extensive knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and how iWeb creates its pages.

  • Feature Request - Ability to prevent videos from auto playing in Browser

    This one isn't totally specific to the Classic, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
    Currently, when visiting sites such as CNN or CTV News in the BlackBerry Browser and you open an article with a video, it will be begin playing automatically. This can be annoying if you're in a library for example as the sound can be disturbing, but most importantly it's a waste of mobile data.
    I would like to see a feature added to the Browser's settings that would be able to prevent any videos from automatically playing to prevent such scenarios from occurring.

    The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • How can I prevent videos from automatically starting when I load a web site?

    Recently web sites have begun not only showing me the first shot of a video, but starting the video automatically when the page loads (or when I scroll down to the part of the page where the video is located). This happens on various news sites (nytimes.com), facebook, and other places. How can I prevent the autostart from happening?
    I've got AdBlockPlus and NoScript enabled, although I whitelist many sites in NoScript. Videos used to wait for me to click an arrow in the middle (like a "play" button) to start; some still do, but most don't. (I believe an add-on is responsible for the play button, but I don't recall which one.)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    The chosen answer is not an answer at all.
    The question remains unanswered: How does one prevent unwanted video content from playing automatically on web websites? The problem is most notable on news sites such as ABC News.
    It is really, really, really really really, really, really, really really really, really, really, really really really irritating. More irritating, in fact, than when people cut and paste a word a dozen times to emphasize it.
    MORE IRRITATING THAN WHJEN PEOPLE USE ALL CAPS OUT OF FRUSTRATION BECAUSE NO ONE SEEMS TO LISTEN OR TO CARE THAT I AM SLOWLY LOSING MY MIND BECAUSE EVERY FLIPPING WEB PAGE IN EXISTENCE PLAYS VIDEAS THAT I DON'T WANT TO WATCH.
    More irritating than repeatedly stating the same thing over and over and over and over... wait. I already illustrated that tautology. Never mind.
    Does anyone have an answer? If there is no answer, and the powers that be at Firefox have decided that we have no choice, then state so. If those who decide what HTML "is" have decided that individuals have no power to opt out of video content on any given web page, then say so.
    If Obama is to blame, then say so. If Bush is to blame, then say so.
    But don't say, "the web [page may be using HTML 5 to play video" because THAT is a NON-ANSWER, let alone the "best" answer.
