Prevent Macbook/Cinema display sleep mode when switching from plugged-in/off
Hello, I've a macbook connected to a Cinema Display. On Energy Saver, all is set to never go to sleep. I'm trying to prevent my macbook going to sleep mode when I plugged off it. Do you have any solution for this?

Hi tjk,
Yes I mean when I disconnect the power supply (that comes from the Cinema Display) the macbook pro goes into sleep mode until i press a button on the keyboard, then it returns into running mode (even if in energy saver all is set to never go to sleep).
I would like that, if there is a power cut in my house, the mbp does not go into sleep mode but continue to be in execution (by means of battery) avoiding sleep mode.
Thanks
Looks like someone already cut in to try answering, but I'll answer the question you asked me anyway. You can read Apple's directions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 and see that unplugging is the cause. It's not really an issue, it's just the way it works.
Contrary to the statement "There's no way around it." you may want to look into UPS (uninterrupted power supply) if it's important enough to you. I have never used one so I am not familiar with them, but by their very nature/purpose, I would think they'd do what you need.

Not sure if anyone else has this problem. I only noticed it a few weeks ago when I left my mobile on the keyboard, towards the left of the trackpad. When I started typing I accidentally nudged my phone off the board and then everything went black. I hit any button and everything turned back on again. I'll assume that it went into 'sleep' mode. Is this normal or should I be worried about the health of my mac?
I am facing pretty much the same problem ... although sometimes the click does work on other parts of the trackpad, but largely I have to stay focused on the left bottom corner. It's getting slightly frustrating esp. because I like the click better than the "tap" and my MAC is only a month old!!
Is this a software issue or a h/w problem?

Flex GUIs get a bad performance in normal screen mode when switched from full screen mode
Hi, there :
I encountered an odd situation and it is only happens on IE. Our project is a Flash 3D Game using Stage3D, and the Game's GUIs are created by CS6. When our game switch from the full screen( StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE or StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN ) to normal screen ( StageDisplayState.NORMAL ), the performance of the Game GUIs decline to approximate a half FPS of full screen mode. But this condition is only happens on IE.
The Game is normal screen when it is initialized and the performance is as same as fullscreen. The performance degradation only happens after switching to normal screen mode from full screen mode.
p.s. : When the mouse is out of the view, the performance become better, from 20 fps up to 50 fps. But is still not as same as the original 60 fps.
p.s. 2 : My colleague told me the Flash Pro CS6 be used to built a single swc file per GUI, and then package all ui swc files to one swc file by Flex Framework SDK( the command is "compc" ). and the IE version = 9.0.8112.16421, the Flash Player Version = 11.6.602.155.
p.s. 3 : I have utilized Adobe Profiler Scout to observe the application, and I found that when it switches to normal screen mode from full screen mode, the time 「Waiting for GPU」 in 「Inactive」 grows up from 10ms to approximate 30ms which is triple. And in the 「Activity Sequence 」tab, it shows that the 「Waiting for GPU」 happens in the 「Copying to screen 」in 「DisplayObject List」.
ThanksThis does sound like a specific bug with IE. It would be great if you could file a bug report here (https://bugbase.adobe.com/), so we can get somebody to look into it.
btw, Flex is really not a good framework for games - it's really slow and heavyweight. If you're just wanting some lightweight UI elements, you might want to check out the Feathers framework, which is built on top of Starling: http://feathersui.com/ -
MacBook go to sleep mode when I use it
Hello world,
When I'm not connected to the sector but I am well on the battery, my screen turns off while I am trying to use it. It is regular and unwelcome.
My configuration battery and energy saving is well configured. I tried to format the hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X and the problem is still there?
This happens while the MacBook is cold, it does not heat.
Can you help me? Does someone has had the same problem and has resolved happens? The machine going to sleep, screen and harddisk... After 30 secondes, I can get up my computer with moving mouse and the DVDRom make a noise. This bug is known? is it common in MacBook?
Please, excuse my English, I'm French. -
Alo, my Macbook pro i7 2 GHz Intel Core i7 (early 2011) will not go to sleep with the power source connected. only enters sleep mode when running on battery. Someone did this happen, and it could solve?
There is no output from that command line? Maybe the pid changed.
I'll repeat what I am trying to find out...
1. You do a pmset -g on the terminal.
2. The output from that pmset should have a line that says "sleep 0 (imposed by n)" where n is some number.
3. The ps ax | grep n is supposed to display what the process associated with n is.
It's the output from step 3 that should indicate what is causing you not to sleep.
But speaking of sleep, that's where I am going. -
Put my macbook pro to sleep. When I opened it, the desktop window is small and I can't resize it. All applications now run in the smaller size window. Can't make it fill the screen. Just switched from windows. Thank you.
Check to see if the resolution has been changed in System Preferences.

Turn off sleep mode when closing MacBook
I used my flat screen TV as a monitor for the MacBook, but each time I closed the cover the MacBook goes into sleep mode. How do I shut this off, so it does not go to sleep mode when the cover is closed ?
Thanks. There is no system setting for that. You can use an external keyboard and mouse and wake the MBP back up with the lid closed, that's 'clamshell mode'.

The only alternative would be a 3rd party hack like InsomniaX or SleepLess. -
Mac OSX 10.6.8 Should I keep it in sleep mode when not in use to shut down?
My experience with electronic tends to revolve around thermo stress, and removing all power vs going to sleep tends to be more or less the same. Many components have power totally taken away, and others use so little power they cool off.
However, I found thermo stress occurs a lot more with discrete electronic components (like back in the '80s and our VAX-11/780's which had lot more discrete components) and less with integrated circuits. NOTE: I'm not talking about overheating components, just normal heating/cooling cycles.
All in all I would not worry about it. The OP (Grace 1) should use whatever method is most convent for her. And I would say if she is using a Macbook Air or the new Macbook Pro Retna display (or any other Mac with a solid state drive (SSD)), then booting from shutdown may not take all that long anyway. -
I am running OSX Lion 10.78.4 and the computer will no longer go into sleep mode when I close the cover. In system preferences I can no longer find the option that allows for this energy saving feature. What happened to this option and why is this no longer happening with the latest version of Lion?
No external monitors or devices attached. When you mention that this function only works when devices are attached that is true when you set up your preferences that way. Up until my upgrade to Lion the computer would always go into sleep mode when I closed the lid. There also used to be an option to check in system preferences that allowed you to choose this option. My question for the discussion is what happened to that option and how do you get the computer to sleep or at least the display to sleep when you close the lid as we have been able to do in the past. Thanks.

All-in-one 6830 printer Does not enter sleep mode when connected to a phone line
HP staff help. HP all-in-one printer 6830 does not enter sleep mode when conntected to a phone line via 1-Line jack. The Firmware is PNP1CN1521AR. On August 1, 2015, I purchased an HP all-in-one 6830 printer and upgraded to firmware PNP1CN1521AR.When a phone line is connected to 1-Line jack of 6830, the printer will no longer enter sleep mode and the display remains on indefinitly.Removing the phone connection either from the wall outlet or from the printer causes the sleep mode to work correctly again where the control panel display turns off after 5 minutes (or optionally after 10 or 15 minutes). This problem was previously reported by a user and has not been resolved, see:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Printing-Questions/Sleep-mode-of-Officejet-Pro-6830/td-p/4772182 The user did not receive a resolution to this problem according to the thread.
There seems to be a 6830 printer firmware or hardware problem causing this. HP should be able to confirm this problem on 6830 easily.
Please advise ASAP.
ThanksIt's a regular analog phone line. I've tested it with other phone lines. No difference. I have another all-in-one printer which works fine (goes to sleep mode) when plugged into the same phone line.
The 6830 works ok in other aspects. The only problem is the sleep mode. Any 6830 with the firmware I mentioned should replicate the same result, regardless of anything else. The previous firmware to PNP1CN1521AR also created this problem according to the original report of this problem by another user.
I'm sure there's a bug in the firmware. A subroutine in the firmware monitoring the incoming fax ringing, mistakenly, sees the voltage across the phone jack pins as an event and wakes up the printer instantly even though there's no ringing. As the previous user also suspected, there seems to be an error in the phone line voltage threshold used by the firmware. The present firmware always sees a ringing at the phone line which causes it to never stay in sleep mode. -
Deactivate the sleep mode when closing the laptop cover
Hello Everyone
I was wondering if there's any way to deactive the sleep mode when I close the cover of my laptop.
In Windows, we can do that.
So, Is There any Way to close the cover and open it up without going in sleep mode? Because in sleep mode, it deactivates internet.
Thank You !

Cinema Display Sleep Won't Wake on Mouse Move
After the Cinema display sleeps (MBP is still awake), prior to Lion, I would just move the mouse and the display would wake. With Lion, moving the mouse has no effect, and I have to open the MBP to wake the Cinema display.
I use an external monitor, keyboard, and wireless mouse.I am having the same problem on my MacPro after upgrading to Lion. I had this problem with Leopard originally, and the solution involved resetting the SMC and resetting PRAM. However, those tricks did not work with Lion. Once the display goes to sleep, it will not wake up. The computer itself is fine (configured to never sleep). I can ssh into for example. I note that an attempt to reboot with "sudo shutdown -r now" fails to reboot successfully however and I end up having to powercycle in order to recover my displays. For now, I'm just going to set my "Display sleep" Energy Saver preference to Never to avoid the issue.
For my MacPro: resetting SMC involves:
a) unplug power for 15 seconds
b) plug in power and wait 15 seconds
c) boot
For my MacPro, resetting PRAM involves:
a) When turning on power, hold down command, option, P, and R keys. wait for 2nd beep to indicate PRAM is reset, then release keys -
Help! mail dissappears when switching from junk training to automatic mode
I'm a new Mail user recently switched from 20 years of Eudora. I'm using Mail with a standard POP account. I've had no trouble setting up mailboxes and importing my old mail.
I've been using junk filtering in training mode for the past few weeks and want to switch to automatic mode. When I tried doing this, all of my inbox messages suddenly disappeared. I quit mail and rebuilt my inbox and found myself with thousands of duplicated messages. I'm using Andreas Amann's remove duplicates script to clean up my inbox (it's taking forever but working!)
My inbox has about 7000 messages currently. My practice with Eudora has always been to keep the current year in the inbox and archive at the beginning of the new year. I'd like to continue this with Mail.
A couple questions:
1) will rebuilding a mailbox cause duplicates? When should one use rebuild?
2) do I just need to be more patient and let mail do its thing when switching from training mode to automatic?
3) is 7000 messages considered too many for a single mailbox?
Any help much appreciated. Many thanks!

No.
When should one use rebuild?
This question doesn’t have a simple answer in the case of Mail 2.x and POP accounts.
2) do I just need to be more patient and let mail do its thing
when switching from training mode to automatic?
I think so.
3) is 7000 messages considered too many for a single mailbox?
There is a limit on the overall size of individual mailboxes rather than on the number of messages stored in them -- see Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.
