Prevent Mail from showing Attachments inline

Hi there, does somebody know how to prevent Mail to show attachments inline ?
Thanks for your help.
regards,
kd

Sometimes zipping is not an optimal solution, such as when sending to a non computer savvy recipient who may not understand zip files. Is there no way to make sure that an attached image will show as an attachment to the recipient (and therefore by easy to download from the email)? Thanks.

How do I show my iCloud purchases in iTunes, but prevent it from showing duplicates of the songs I already have on my computer?  There are duplicates of essentially everything!
I would like to show my available songs that I could download if I want, however the ones I've already downloaded to my computer are showing up still, which results in duplicates of everything (one on my computer, one in the cloud)

    No.
Are the photos in an iTunes backup? If so then:

  • How can i prevent mail from downloading the same messages over and over again?

is there any way to prevent Mail from downloading the same messages over and over again? Mail has a minimum of "50 recent messages" to download, but i hate having to delete them every time i check for new mail! why doesn't the program remember if you have already downloaded a message, and suppress any subsequent downloads???

    Same issue since Mavericks.

  • How do I prevent Mail from automatically sending iCal acceptances?

I am using Apple Mail 4.6 on Snow Leopard. I have multiple email accounts in Mail (personal, work, etc.) When I accept an iCal invitation, Mail automatically sends the email response without allowing me to review the email contents or the "From" address. This can lead to embarrassing situations if the email is sent from my personal account. Very uncool.
The only workaround I have found is to make my work account the "default" account by dragging it to the top of my account list. But this isn't foolproof as Mail apparently uses the address of any currently selected Inbox or message as the From address, so I have to make sure to deselect any messages in Mail before I click "Accept" in iCal. But now if I receive an invitation to my personal calendar, my acceptance will be sent from my work address. Also not cool.
Is there a better, more reliable way to control the "From" address in an iCal acceptance?
Or can I prevent Mail from sending this acceptance email automatically? Ideally, I would like Mail to put an unsent iCal acceptance in Drafts or Outbox so I can review and edit the message before sending. But the Drafts and Outbox mailboxes seem to be just chimera, always disappearing. (In fact, I tried creating and sending a message while offline and it just disappeared. Didn't even go to Drafts. When I went back online, the message went "swoosh" from some unknown location. Not very smart design, Apple.)

It looks like the only way to address this problem is by using this 3rd party software:
    iCal Reply Checker

Does anyone know of an Apple-native solution?

  • How do I prevent Mail from Zipping the attachment?

When I send a .pages file by e-mail, Mail zips the file to .pages.zip.
The network software at this University blocks .zip. How do I prevent Mail from zipping the file? I tried turning off the "send windows-friendly", but but still zips.

Assuming this is iWork '08 or earlier, the "documents" are actually packages. A package is really a folder hierarchy. A folder cannot be emailed unless it is archived somehow. Mail does this automatically; most other email programs would be incapable of sending a bare Pages document at all.
You could use some other non-blocked archive format, like tar or StuffIt. Or maybe you could rename it so that the mail servers don't recognize it as zip. You would have to instruct your recipient to rename it back. I understand that iWork '09 archives documents by default, although they are not named .zip, so that should be no longer an issue.

  • How do I prevent Mail from downloading messages from IMAP?

I just set up Mail to use two of my email accounts for a very limited purpose that requires IMAP. As soon as it got the Gmail one created, Mail started downloading all 3,700 Gmail messages in my folders AND ARCHIVE. The x button did not stop the process. I don't want mail on my laptop hard drive. I set Preferences to "get mail ... manually" on both accounts. When I restarted Mail, it started downloading the rest of the 3,700 plus new stuff in the other account. How do I prevent Mail from ever downloading unless I tell it to? Email replies preferred because I am not in the habit of looking at discussions I've never seen before and hope never to see again. --John

This is what syncing is all about. It sounds like you deleted some mail while logged in on your phone.  This deletes it from the server.  When your Mac synced up with the server, it deleted the mail it had previously downloaded so it would be in sync with what was on the server.  In the old days, assuming you really wanted that mail deleted, you would have had to manually delete it from every device.  Now it does it automatically for you. Similarly, mail you send from your phone will also appear in the sent mail folder on your Mac; you don't have to check all your devices to find that message you sent last month.
If you haven't already emptied the email trash, you should be able to get those messages back.

  • How do I prevent Mail from opening when I click an email address in Safari?

My wife and I both use Yahoo! Mail. Neither of us uses the Mail app to manage our email. How do I prevent Mail from opening when we click an email address in Safari?  Is it possible to direct Safari to open a separate web browser prompting us to log in to our Yahoo! Mail?

    Hmm.. probably not.
You want to open Mail. Then go into Preferences > General and you will see something similar to this:
In the area marked Default Mail reader click on the pull down and at the bottom of the list it will say Other. You can see if you can select Safari here and if that will open up Safari.
    Good luck.

  • How to prevent mail from breaking web links into multiple lines?

    Hey all!
When I send someone a long web link that is pretty long, Mail breaks it into several lines and at the end the user cannot use this link right away, he needs to "assemble it by parts" first.
Is there a way to prevent mail from doing this?
    Thanks,

Also you could use tinyurl - this is exactly what its designed for.
    ie

  • How do I prevent Mac Mail from dropping attachments?

My OS X 10.7.3 Mail is dropping attachments. Any idea how to fix this? Every time I need to send an email with an attachment, I have to use webmail, and this is getting old fast. Thanks.

If Earthlink is unaffected it is probably a settimg in me.com.  Log into me.com account in a browser such as Safari (will get icloud.com) and select the settings (gear) icon bottom left, and then click on the airplane icon. Make sure vacation setting is unchecked.

  • Is there a way to prevent Mail from loading non system fonts?

For over a year, and a system OS upgrade, Mail has been taking 7 - 10 minutes to load all the thousands of fonts I have on my computer for graphic design. This started with Snow Leopard on my 2009 Mac Pro (10 GB RAM, 2 TB HDD). At first I didn't know why the computer was taking such a long time to finish boot up. So I reformatted the drive--zeroing it out. Then I installed Mavericks and reinstalled everything else. Finally I tried logging the system activity during startup and noticed that something to do with fonts took up the biggest chunk of this time. Because Mavericks loads any programs you leave running at shut down, I saw that if Mail had the fonts window open, the list of fonts would slowly grow, filling up with the many font families I use for my work. I called tech support for my font management utility but they say the fonts are not in the system and and shouldn't affect the system during startup. In the end I gave up and just go drink a few coffees after hitting the start button. It's like going back to the early days 25 years ago.
Can I stop Mail from loading any non-system fonts? I never use anything but the default font.

    Hey SchenkerBob,
It is possible to disable non-system fonts temporarily for all applications using the Font Book application. This article explains how to do so -
Mac Basics: Font Book - Apple Support
    In particular -
    Disable and enable specific fonts
In situations where you'd like to prevent a font from being available in applications, but you don't want to completely remove the font from your Mac, you can use Font Book to disable the font.
In Font Book, click "All Fonts" in the Collection column.
Click the name of the font in the Font column.
Choose Disable "Font Name" Family from the Edit menu.
Since it might be problematic to have to disable each font individually, you can create a collection of fonts and disable the collection. See the article for how to create a font collection -
    Organize fonts as collections
When working with fonts, you may discover that you use certain fonts frequently, but rarely use others. To make it easier to find the font you are looking for, you can organize your fonts into collections.
From the Font Book File menu, choose New Collection.
Type in a name for the new collection.
Click "All Fonts" in the Collection column.
Drag the fonts that you want from the Font column onto the name of your new collection in the Collection column.
You can then disable collections of fonts -
You can also disable or enable all fonts in a collection: Click the name of the collection in the Collection column, then choose Disable "Collection Name" or EnableCollection Name" " from the Edit menu.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,
    Brett L

  • Mail not showing attachments in my Sent Mail list

I have the paperclip icon in my menu bar so I can easily see emails with attachments but in Lion they are not showing at all. Old mails BEFORE I upgraded to Lion show attachments. Has anyone sorted this issue?

OK, I have no idea why, but the following worked.
I created a rule in the Preferences pane:
    CONDITIONS
         sender is me
attachment contains "." (every file does)
    RULE
         set color to (anything)
    The rule worked.
    Furthermore, the paperclips appeared!!!

  • Preventing page from showing up in Site Map

Is there no way to prevent a page from showing up in the site map? Even if I disable a page it still shows up in the site map.

    Hey Brad,
You need to wait till the end of the day for the sitemap to update. If it existed before and in the sitemap.xml when off it will not render.
You can now also go into the sitemap.xml manually via FTP and change things. I think if you do that it stops auto updating though so if you want that to kick in, deleting it and then it will be auto generated again by the system.
Site map in the admin is for the page list you insert and doing child/parent stuff for breadcrumbs.
    That make sense?

  • How do I prevent items from showing up under "Available Software" in the software center after they have been removed?

I have some scenarios where I want to keep older or multiple versions of an application around in the Application Catalog website. The problem is when I deploy a script to remove one of these applications after removal it starts to appear under "Available
Software" in the Software Center. Our users have noticed this and discovered that they can go there, select the application and reinstall it. I need to find a way to prevent this. Is there some sort of setting I can enable to prevent certain applications
from showing up under "Available Software" but still have them listed in the Application Catalog Website?

I show in the SDK about properties passed to the Software Center that deal with Applications but nothing on how to interact with it directly in dealing with the Check box for "Show Optional Software".
You can always see if there is a captured regentry when you click it.  I don't know if this setting is wiped out when you close the SC.  If so you could create something to create the key to force the check box.  Sorry, maybe someone will
have a better answer for you.

Thanks for responding again Matthew. Yeah I googled around and got nowhere. I did find a thread here that touched on it where Torsten Meringer responded and seemed to indicate that it could not be done. I find that hard to believe (where there's a will there’s
a way right?). I did tag the Software Center with a registry watcher on my stet VM and tried unchecking that box. Got nothing so wherever the setting resides it does not appear to be in the registry. Very frustrating to have the solution staring me right in
the face and being unable to do anything about it. Hopefully someone who has a working method will see this thread and respond. Until then I guess I’ll keep digging.
Side note – I’ve worked in Oil and Gas now for 10 years. Awesome to have an admin from Schlumberger respond to my post. We energy people have to stick together right? ;)

  • How can I prevent Mail from Getting Messages Automatically?

I want to stop Apple Mail from getting new messages until I click on the "Get Mail" button.
This is proving hard to achieve.
In Mail Preferences, I have set Check for New Messages to "Manually."
    This does nothing.
Additionally, I went to each account, went into the Advanced tab and unchecked "Include when automatically checking for new messages."
    This also changed nothing.
This should be fairly easy to achieve, and yet it is not. Any thoughts on how I can set this up? I have one iCloud account, one Google Apps via IMAP account and one generic IMAP account. They all seem to ignore the settings for message fetching.
    I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. Apple Mail version 8.2 (2070.6).
    Mid-2011 iMac 21.5", 16GB Ram, 2.5 GHz Quad-Core i5.

    Same issue since Mavericks.

  • TS3899 How do I prevent mail from deleting on the server after deleting on the phone?

When I delete mail from my iphone when using apple mail, the e-mail deletes on my phone but remains on my computer.  When my co-worker deletes mail from her iphone it is getting deleted from her work computer (and the server).  I have compared settings on our phone and everything appears the same.  How do we stop mail from deleting from the server when she deletes mail from her phone?
    Thanks!

    POP or IMAP?
With POP, this is the conventional way to use it. You download messages and doing so deletes them. Alternatively you can arrange to leave copies on the server for other email clients to be able to see them. The setting to do this can be found under '''Tools|Account Settings|{select account}|Server Settings'''.
With IMAP, you're supposed to store messages on the server. If you want to remove them from the server, move them to the Local Folders account in Thunderbird.
