Prevent On Success Hide from advancing slide

I click box that will hide a text caption. When I use "On Success" > "Hide" to hide the text caption and click box group, it advances my slide, ignoring the NEXT button's pause attribute.
It does NOT advance if I use the following setting: "On Success" > "Advanced action" > "...mycustom script that only hides the click box and text caption group..."
Why does the built-in HIDE function differently than HIDE in the Advanced Action script? Shouldn't they both function the same, and NOT advance the slide?

If you want this to change, do not complain here, but enter a feature request. I'm happy with the situation because both are possible, sometimes one want the playhead to continue...

How to prevent my slide from advancing?

Hi - how do I prevent my slide from advancing? I have a text caption at the top, then 2 images, each with click boxes over them. And then there are 2 text captions below - one underneath each image. I also added a next button to try to stop the slide from advancing.
I set the action on each click box to show the text caption below the image when the click box is clicked. So here's what happens:
- the slide plays, then stops
- user clicks either one of the images (is actually clicking the click box on top of the image), and
- then the slide start playing again and then eventually all the objects disappear (timing on the slide is about 17 seconds).
How do I get all the objects to just stay on the slide, until the user clicks the next button on the skin? I had thought the Next button would do that, but it's not (and I don't want a next button on there anyway).

Clicking a clickbox hyperlink will advance slide

I'm using buttons to navigate through the presentation here. Each slide is 3.1 seconds; after 3 seconds navigation buttons will appear and pause the presentation. To prevent skipping slides, I've removed the included playback controls in the theme editor thing. So during the slide, users can click on a clickbox I created to open a URL in a new window. The clickbox exists until end of slide so the it still works while the page is paused. Most of this is actually not important.
The issue I'm having is this: if 'Continue Playing the Project' is checked then clicking the link while the page is paused for navigation will unpause it and advance the slide. So a user can be pushed to the next slide before they're ready. Clicking the link while this option is unchecked will pause the presentation and can prevent the navigation buttons from ever appearing. Apparently the clickbox must set state to 'pause' or 'play' and cannot simply preserve the existing state.
Can anyone point me to a solution?

I've been using this program for like two days now so I'm probably the one that's misunderstanding, haha. Maybe a fresh explanation will help?
I'm not really going for a video here, I'm basically aiming for a powerpoint presentation (since that's what we're replacing) where you click buttons to navigate through slides. Navigation on its own works fine; buttons can navigate through slides and I can hide the buttons until a certain amount of time has passed.
Unfortunately, since the entire project operates on the same time instance, the link object I've got here can misbehave in either of two ways: it can pause the entire presentation before navigation buttons are enabled and strand the user in place, or it can advance the slide prematurely and take the user away from the slide they were on before they were ready. It can either set state to 'Play' or 'Pause' and can't just preserve the state that was already there.
Currently I'm messing around with the advanced actions, trying to say basically 'if it's paused, open the URL and pause it; else, open the URL and play it' so if anybody who is more familiar with the commands can help, that'd be appreciated. I've got:
if cpCmndPause = 0:
Open URL in new window
Assign cpCmndPause = 0
I'd expect this to, if it's playing, open the URL and keep playing. Instead, nothing happens. Am I doing this wrong?

Remote for advancing slides in Keynote

I'm posting this as a suggestion for Apple. I use a remote to advance slides for presentations. I would really like to be able to do that with the iPad. Bluetooth would be just fine. None of my Bluetooth mice will pair with the iPad so that won't work

Geez, I watched the same SteveNote and didn't see anything in there that gave me the impression that you'd be able to remotely advance Keynote slides from something outside of the iPad - the demo clearly indicated it was set up to use *the iPad itself* to hook up to a projector (not wirelessly) and be the presenter's screen (like a giant remote), with the projector getting the presentation output.
I'm sorry some of you bought this so early and were hoping to use it as a regular laptop, as it's not one. If you really need the services of a laptop and a bluetooth mouse, well........netbooks are cheap. Cheaper than iPads.
Having said that, give it some time - perhaps Apple will add this feature at some point, but I don't know if I would hold my breath. Even more likely there may be an iPhone/iPod app that may remotely advance iPad slides, but this will likely require them both to be talking via a WiFi router in the room.

My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.

Connect the PC to the library on the NAS. Wait while "updated".
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

Hi - you have will have to change the device passwords on all the base stations and then don't give them to anyone except the administrators and tell them not to save them on their computers that use the older versions of the Airport Utility - for the newer versions like the mobile apps, as soon as you enter the pasword it is saved and is visible in the advanced pane along with the network password - so if anyone gets a hold of your iPad or iPhone, they can edit the whole network - I have this same issue with my networks in the office and it is inconvenient but doable - I hope this helps

Error: prevented the text engine from being initialized

I am getting the following error when attempting to use the text tool with my photoshop (12.0) - windows 7.
"could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized"
I've attempted to follow some posts from others to fix without success.
There are two fonts in my fonts folder that are shortcuts - and the fonts don't exist in the folder. Also, I can't delete the shortcut font from the fonts folder.
(I'm posting this now... and might have a solution. Just in case, I want this conversation started.)

Usually that means that you have a corrupt font or a corrupt OS font cache.

Also, make sure you have all the Photoshop updates installed.

Prevent Safari 5.1 from adding to Top Sites

Has anyone figured out a way to prevent Safari 5.1 from adding to Top Sites every time one looks at a webpage? I have used Macs for 20 years and love them, EXCEPT that Apple doesn't give much control to the user.

If, for some reason, you want to completely disable the Top Sites feature, use the following Terminal command copy and paste:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari5IncludeTopSites -bool FALSE
Repeating with TRUE at the end will enable Top Sites again.
I have not tested this, but you can try it, and report back on your success or failure.
Clear cache, clear history, reset and relaunch Safari.
Of course there all alternatives if this command does not work. See this thread:

iMovie 08 will only import files that contain codecs that it can edit. It will generally import audio and video codecs that iPhoto generates. However, if your iPhoto slideshow contains a manual advance track, iMovie cannot edit this and therefore will not import. In iPhoto, check to see if you can do a timed advance rather than a manual advance. Then it should import.

How to removing a pending update that is preventing a successful boot

Hi,
For an unknown reason (my guess is an update was automatically applied and automatically restarted), my computer rebooted overnight and in the morning was stuck in a failed boot loop. When trying to boot I get the message:
"Preparing to configure windows"
"Do not turn off your computer"
Then after a few seconds the computer reboots and does the same thing. Safe mode yields the same result. Using the F8 option to restore last known good configuration doesn't change anything. I can boot into the recovery console.
I have tried running SFC /SCANNOW in a command prompt in the recovery console and get the message:
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
Restarting of course doesn't change anything. So it seems something happened to an unfinished update and is still pending. I think if I can remove this pending update I might be able to boot normally, or at least run SFC and hopefully then boot
normally.
Does anyone know what I should try to remove this pending update that appears to be preventing a successful boot?

This is the command to run when booted offline at a recovery command prompt
dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions
This is supposed to revert all pended updates, however if System Restore is not working, then there may be other issues as well

I'm thinking this may help with a similar problem I'm having with SP1 (fatal error applying update during boot). I noticed that when I'm at the recovery command prompt, the system image is moved to E: vs. C:. Will DISM work in this case & will
it restore my System Image, pre-SP1 failure, to C:? Also, does it matter whether I run the recovery command prompt from the current installation or do I need to start from the original install media? Oh, one more question... When I installed
Windows 7x64, I used a minimal unattend.xml file to force all User Profiles to another, non-system, disk drive, currently D:. Both my system drive & user profile/data drive appear unharmed so far.

Turning audio off from previous slide

I put together a CP5 demo for my lead to present at a meeting to show management some of the things CP5 can do. On the slides I placed and example of the following:
a Software Simulation
a video
project built from PPTs
Each of these had narrations in the example. WHen my lead when to run through it the audio from each continued to play when the project advanced to the next slide so by the end it was a chorus of voices. Is there a way to tell CP5 to stop the audio when the slide advances? I'm thinking it must be an advanced action but I"m not good with these.

Did you add each of these examples as Captivate published SWFs added on separate slides of a master project?
If so, you would effectively have three or more SWFs each with their own audio track. Unless you explicitly stop the audio for an SWF inserted into a Captivate movie slide, it will continue to play until finished.
For best results in Captivate you should avoid nesting Captivate movies within other Captivate projects.
Just copy and paste all the slides from each separate example into a main project file so that these slides become slides in the master project, each with their own separate audio on each slide. Then when you publish you shouldn't have problems with the audio playing over the top of other slides. When you move from slide to slide the audio from previous slides will cease playing.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

What can prevent a hard refresh from completing?

I'm running Firefox 14 on a 64-bit Windows machine. According to everything I've read, I should be able to do a hard refresh using CTRL-F5 or the refresh button on the top of the window.
When working on a website, for example, I'll update something then want to see how it looks. Doing a CTRL-F5 does nothing.
I'm a recent convert to Firefox. Now I must have IE open to see changes since the hard refresh works on IE, but I work using Firefox.
The only thing I can think of is that there is some setting that is preventing the hard refresh from working.
And, please don't ask me to clear cache and cookies. I've got so many passwords remembered on this thing, it would slow me down considerably to look each one up as I need them.
Given all that, any ideas on how to fix this?

Maybe temporarily switch to Private Browsing mode and possibly clear the memory cache.

In PB mode Firefox doesn't use the disk cache and the cookies from regular mode.
You can set the browser.privatebrowsing.keep_current_session pref to true on the about:config page to prevent closing the current session.
