Prevent screen timeout in Flash 10.1 for Android

Is there a way (in AS3 or the HTML container) to prevent the phone's screen from turning off while playing a game in Flash?  I'm working on some game prototypes for Flash Player 10.1 on Android 2.2, and it seems that as long as I'm touching / clicking the screen it doesn't time out, but if I haven't clicked for a while or if I'm making something controlled mainly by the accelerometer, the phone's standard timeout for the screen kicks in.
Apps developed to run on Android have a way of preventing the screen's timeout from kicking in for accelerometer-based games, though I haven't found a way to do this for an in-the-browser Flash game.  At the moment designing something for the accelerometer is pointless, since without touch interaction the screen's going to turn off in 30 seconds or however the user's screen timeout is set.

On a similar note, how do you prevent XMLSocket timeout, when the screen saver turns on? Our application preriodically sends keep-alive messages to the server, but apparently when Android screen saver turns on, the Flash stops running even when the  browser with embedded app is up, and the socket connection times out, so the user does not get new notifications...

  • Google Maps for Flash in AIR for Android: ~2 minutes to start up

    I have a "Hello World" style AIR for Android app using Flash Builder 4 Burrito/Flex Hero.
    When debugging on device (stock HTC Desire) using Flex version v1.20 of Google Maps for Flash (map_flex_1_20.swc), it takes 1 minute and 50 seconds for the app to startup to display a simple map:Map3D on the home screen. The same app without the map:Map3D object starts in just a few seconds.
    There are no startup delays using the simulator.
    Anyone know what might be causing the severe startup delay when running on device?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Hi - yes no problem: I've uploaded a sample app here: http://crackedfrog.com/files/AndroidAIRMap.zip.
    You'll need to add a valid Google Maps API key and corresponding URL back into the maps:Map3D object:
    <maps:Map3D left="0" right="0" top="0" bottom="0"
      xmlns:maps="com.google.maps.*" id="map"
      url=""
      key=""
      sensor="false"/>
    This shows the same behaviour as described above - around 2 minutes to start up when debugging on the device.
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

  • Flash CS5 extensions for android unavailable from adobe?? anyone know solution

    Hello, I'm totally new to developing apps for android and am just getting started in flash CS5. According to most tutorials that I can find on the web I need to install an extension from adobe.
    see this tutorial
    Creative Sweet TV - Publish to Android 2.2 from Adobe Flash CS5 | Adobe TV
    However, when I go to adobe's site they say that the extension isn't available anymore and will be integrated with their new version of Flash!!!!
    Adobe Flash Professional CS5 Extension for Adobe AIR 2.5 - Adobe Labs
    I just bought a new Mac to run CS5 and can't believe that now it looks like I'll have to upgrade my software, at more expense, in order to do something that was possible only a short time ago!!
    Does anyone have any information on this problem?

    Hi All,
    Why don't Adobe leave the extension up there until they roll out the new version of FP?
    To Adobe,
    That's no good!
    Adobe (and your awesome staff), on a whole I think you do a great job and obviously most of us love your tools.
    I don't post on these forums much, but I've been a member since 2002 (and certianly read a lot of posts).
    The software hasn't been out in Oz for 12 months yet, so how do you expect people to start leveraging the new features and expand if you make it cost prohibitive and have to upgrade to the next full version (well before it's release), by subsequently taking down the value added components that the customer base obviously want / need / and appreciate.  (my assumption is that when you say 'release' you are talking about full release and not simply an online update).
    In helenthegreat_2011  case you have obviously alienated a recent customer that was after functionality you advertise, by promoting the diversity and flexibility of you tools, and reading recent posts it doesn't seem isolated.
    I expect new developers would have at least 6 months lead time before a new version rolls out (the common 18 months version gap) and that's potentially 6 months of existing Adobe customers developing with that platform in mind, (and cementing a stronger client base using your tools to develop for Android).
    So essentially the devs that have the extension currently are the only ones that are able to use FP to develop Android apps, and Adobe have locked the rest of the customer base out, mandating that they will need to purchase the next version of FP to be able to do this.  .
    Can Adobe please clarify what your customers are supposed to do in the mean time / or do you have an alternative for us?
    What was the reason it was taken down?  Was it unstable, or was it up to simply test, gauged interest, and try to profit maximise by pushing the functionality to a new release.
    To quote your page "The extension for Flash Pro CS5 to deploy applications to the Android platform will no longer be available. This feature is being rolled into the next release for Adobe Flash Professional. Please check http://www.adobe.com for latest news and information about the availability of the next version of our Creative Suite products."
    And that's all it says (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashpro_extensionforair/) Could we please either have the extension back, or at least a bit more of an explanation other than "Pay out a few more thousand dollars and you can have the functionality - but you'll have to wait until we release it first."
    Here's the rub...
    Personally, 4 months ago I spent just under $4,000 (AU$) to purchase CS5 Master Collection.
    I wont be waiting until Adobe release FP CS6 to be able to develop for Android devices, I'll be investing the time to find alternate development environments (such as Unity3D http://unity3d.com/unity/publishing/android) and ditching the plans of using Fash for Android dev.
    If you're going to arbitrarily take down the tools that extend the functionality of your product, then at least spend the time taking down all the Adobe articles, tutorials, videos, etc on your site that promote it as an availble functionality.
    Unless we're missing something or there is an aloternative, on the face of it, I think it's poor form Adobe.

    Chris

  • Wittyritesh question on flash cc air for android deployment error

    why do we get captivating runtime error in flash cc when we render apk file in adobe air. It is successful when we choose AIR 2.5 but when we change it to AIR 13 and render then we always get a error message

    I'm having the same problem with Flash CC on Mac OS 10.8.5 using AIR 3.6 and 3.9 beta sdks publishing to Android.
    Essentially Flash CC builds the apk just fine then hangs at 00:05 when it should be installing the apk to the device.
    In looking at Activity Monitor I noticed I had two adb processes launched which could be part of the problem.
    I then tried publishing through Flash CC but installing on devices via the command line when I've now run into another error:
    $ adb install Untitled-1.apk
    1311 KB/s (9427446 bytes in 7.021s)
              pkg: /data/local/tmp/Untitled-1.apk
    Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES]
    Apparently the apk isn't signed despite including my certificate in the publishing settings (along with the password) and the publishing process finishing without error.
    An unsigned APK will not install on devices, which *could* be related to the problem of Flash CC never finishing publishing when 'install on device(s)' is selected in the publishing options. If Flash CC is waiting for a 'success' event to be fired from adb it may simply never be receiving one and therefore never finishing the publishing process… (just speculating).
    Also, this is happening with *ANY* FLA I try to publish to Android.

  • Flash vs flex for android development

    I've seen some videos using Flash and others using catalyst/Builder. I'm not sure which to start learning, I'm very interested though. I'm comfortable with flash (and have new 5.5 creative) but feel like builder/catalyst will eventually be more powerful.
    what are the advantages and disadvantages of them (is there somewhere I can read up on this if it's too long of an answer?)
    are there any good websites or books that really dig into the actual code from beginner to advanced? I don't even know where to look, the documentation is just very overwhelming. how would you advise even beginning? I don't want to get into bad habbits. i.e. learn in Flash then find out that I am limited by the program, or learn bad coding practices.

    I suggest checking out the Flash Platform page on Adobe.com for additional information.  Flash Professional, Flash Builder, and Flash Catalyst are targeted towards individual workflows for building rich Internet applications.  If you want to build data-driven or e-commerce applications and leverage the Flex framework, I suggest checking out Flash Builder.

  • The new versions of Flash Player for Android are still not in the Archive page!

    I feel like something is missing in the Flash Player Archive page.  Yesterday, I read that the new Flash Player version for Android 2.x/3.x is now version 11.1.111.73, and that the new Flash Player version for Android 4.x is now 11.1.115.81, but instead, all I see are previous versions of Flash Player for Android 4.x, 3.x, and 2.x!  When will the newest Flash Player versions for Android be available to the archive page?  Here's a link for the Archive Page:  http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html

    Ok, we're fixing it and it should be resolved by tomorrow.  Please let me know if you can't find it by tomorrow evening.
    Thanks again for letting us know!

  • Flash for android 2.3

    I am trying to  play farmville 2 on my asus tablet - android 2.3 but it keeps giving me a message to upgrade flash 11.2. Can anyone help me?

    You're out of luck:
    On September 10 2013, Adobe released Flash Player 11.1.111.73 for Android 2.x and 3.x and 11.1.115.81 for Android 4.0.x in keeping with statements made in Adobe's publicly available Flash Roadmap. This release is the final update release of Flash Player for the Android operating system. While it is not recommended, if you would like to download this release for previous Android releases, see the links below:
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.73)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.64)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.59)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.54)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.50)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.44)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.43)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.32)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.31)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.29)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.24)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.19)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.16)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.10)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.9)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.8)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.7)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.5)
    Flash Player 11.1 for Android (11.1.102.59)
    Flash Player 11 for Android (11.0.1.153)
    Flash Player 10.3 for Android (10.3.186.7)
    Flash Player 10.2 for Android (10.2.157.51)
    Flash Player 10.1 for Android (10.1.106.17)
    After 11.1, there is no more Flash Player for Android and there won't be another. Android (as you can see) is no longer compatible with Flash Player. Playing Flash content is very processor consumptive and it drains your battery, also shortening the life of it. Android (Google) recommends using either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" as your browser if you need to view Flash content with a mobile device running Android. They're both availabe in the GooglePlay store. These browsers use "server side" rendering to reduce the load on your device.

  • AIR for Android setup?

    I need to bring an AIR-for-iOS app that I've developed to Android. I know that there are some older tutorials floating around the web on setting up Flash (and FlashDevelop) for Android development but can anyone tell me about any recent ones?  I believe, for instance, that it's no longer necessary to pre-install the AIR runtime on an Android device, but this doesn't seem well documented.
    I want to speed up my setup time and avoidance of any basic problematic differences between iOS and Android. Especially in regard to such things as StageVideo and StageText. Also in regard to designing for the multitude of Android screen shapes.
    thanks for any advice,
    Craig

    Can you please give directions where can i clear that cash.
    Anyway i don`t think its the case, because this is first time i hooked phone to internet, and first time i launched Android app store.
    Edit:
    I went to https://market.android.com and there is Adobe air app. But when i try to download it says that my device doesn't support it (Samsung Galaxy GT-I5500) By default it comes with android 2.1 and doesn't support Adobe air, but i upgraded firmware to 2.2.
    Maybe that is the reason it doesn't show me Adobe AIR in app store - based on my phone, not my Android version ?

  • Adobe AIR for Android 2.2(Samsung Galaxy Fit)

    Hi all,
         I have Samsung Galaxy Fit with Android 2.2. I want to deploy applications coded in Flex on my phone.
    Also Adobe AIR is supported by devices with Android OS 2.1 and above, but in Android market it shows that my phone is not compatible with the latest version of AIR.
    So does anyone knows which lower version of AIR will be supported by Galaxy Fit.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Please download latest AIR3.4 SDK from http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/air-sdk-download.html.
    Look for the runtime.apk present in the AIRSDK folder \runtimes\air\android\device.
    Install the AIR3.4 runtime on android device using command(Refer http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WSfffb011ac560372f-5d0f4f25128cc9cd0cb-7ff6.html) -
    adt -installRuntime -platform android -device deviceID -package path-to-runtime
    The above steps will install latest AIR runtime on Android device.
    Please note that - Applications created and published from Flash Professional CS6 for Android platforms will run on devices that run Google Android™ 2.2 operating system or higher.

  • Splash Screen for Android with Flash CS5.5

    How can I make a SplashScreen with Flash CS5.5 or just with AIR/AS3 codes. I need it while the App/Game is loading...
    I know that it's possible with Flex 4.5 as:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:ViewNavigatorApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
                              xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
                              firstView="views.HomeView"
                              splashScreenImage="@Embed('splashscreen.png')" />
    http://workflowflash.com/98437/air-for-android-splash-screen-with-flex-4-5.php
    But I want to do it without Flex. So can I ?
    Thank you

    i'm not sure if this is necessary anymore, but i took the advise of another user here
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/764981
    the key difference is, the user stated a preloading swf needed to embed the image in order to display before the whole apk is loaded.
    Seems to be working for me anyway

    In Firefox 4, how do I change the order of plugins on the Add-ons Plugins manager page? I turn Shockwave Flash on only when I want to watch a video and then turn it off to prevent screen freezing, and so I want it to PUT it and KEEP it at the top of the list.

    Hit Ctrl+0 (That's a zero, by the way). I'm not sure if it will work, but hey, that's the first thing I would try.
