Prevent sleep mode with mbp 2011

how do I prevent my mbp 2011 to get into sleep mode when closing the lid.
I tried insomniaX, Caffein and lullaby but non of them worked!
Thx in advance,
Maik

What do you guys suggest for settings on the sleep mode, I've just got a new MBP and it goes dark quick when using off battery, slightly longer off mains, barely a minute or what seems like. Do you leave at factory settings or ??
I'm still at a loss with the calibrating instructions?
The battery time left changes every minute so never have any idea how much power/time is left?
This calibration method, after leaving for 2 hours in the green fully charged, when you unplug it do you have to leave it on till it turns itself off in one hit, overnight, or can you turn it off and just use it till it dies without charging it the next day when it runs down to 0%?
And what does this actually mean? You can only fully charge it twice a week? For my business use it will need charging every day
*Do’s & Don’ts*
DO use your battery frequently and lightly, ideally completing 1-2 charge cycles per week (minimum one charge cycle per month).

  • After update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.

    hello,
after update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.
the used ports appear to be "killed"; the unused USB ports seem to work, but the Mac works in slow-motion.
The only "solution" is to restart my Mac.
    - SMC-reset, PRAM-reset or repairing user rights had no positive effect; what is the solution - a bug-fix-update???

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.

  • Sony prs t2 sleep mode with showing picture

Dose sleep mode with selecting picture consume batt energy more than without showing one?
    Thank you verymuch
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you for your question - actually it really shouldn't make any difference.  Battery power is consumed when an E ink display changes but not during the time the page itself is displayed, so matter what you have on the screen the power consumption should stay the same.

  • Freeze after waking from sleep mode on MBP retina

After waking from sleep mode my MBP retina freezes for 3-5 seconds. Mouse and touchpad don't work. I wonder if it's mountain lion problem or hardware problem. Anyone faced this?

Just got a brand new model and OS X 10.8.2 (12C3012) and face the same issue, almost everytime it sleeps for too long. This is not a 3rd type SDD, this is a standard Apple SSD. I turned off the BT, I removed the almost every option from the battery saver mode. The current test is to disable the power nap - I will let you all know the result in a few hours.

  • IMac in sleep mode with fans blasting at 5,000 RPM?

When I came home from work my iMac was still in sleep mode with the fans running at nearly 5,000 rpm, was very loud. Anyone having the same issue?
I tested it with TechTools Deluxe and it didn't find any issues.

Reset the SMC and if that doesn't do it reset the PRAM. I think the SMC reset will take care of it though.
    _SMC RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    • Release the power button.
    • Attach the computers power cable.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    _PRAM RESET_
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

  • Server connections are lost after sleep mode with Mavericks.

Ever since I "upgraded" to Mavericks, when I "wake" my iMac after putting it in Sleep mode, the network connections have disconnected and I have to re-connect all of them (6) every day. This never happened with Mountain Lion or any other previous version of OS X. Is there a fix for this?

I've also noticed this problem. Brand new MBP with Mavericks, goes to sleep, on wakeup all my network drives are disconnected, as is Outlook 2011. None of them recover gracefully - I have to manually reconnect. Aggravating..

  • Printer now will not come out of sleep mode with new MiFi 5510L

I have a HP 3522 All In One wireless printer networked via my MiFI router that goes into sleep mode as it is supposed to after a set period of idle time but the only way I can get it back on line/wake up is to unplug it and plug it back in.  While asleep, none of the buttons work and all print jobs fail because the 'printer cannot be found'.  I never had this problem until I upgraded from an older MiFi unit to the 5510L.
I am using a MacBook Pro and MacBook Air both running OS X Mavericks 10.9.1
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

KSutherland, I'm so sorry this is occurring with your phone. I understand how frustrating this can be when you're trying to use your phone and have to pull the battery. I researched information about your phone that have been reported by customers and didn't find this as a known issue. I also show the Bionic received a software update on December 9, 2011. I recommend updating your phone to the new software, which can assist with. I listed a link below with information and instructions for the update.
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/system_update/droid_bionic.html
Additionally, I would also like to recommend clearing the cache and browser history. This can help the device from having slow functionalities. The steps are below:
From a Home screen, select the App menu (located in the lower right).
    Select Browser.
If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
    Select Menu.
    Select More.
    Select Settings.
Within settings you can clear the following :
--Clear all, which clears all deletes history, cache, cookies, form data and passwords
--Clear cache, which clears visited website content stored on the device. The cache enables the browser to download only the content that has changed since the last time a website was visited. Since the browser only downloads changed content, pages are loaded faster.
--Clear history, which clears a listing of URLs (website addresses) that have been recently visited.
--Clear cookie data, which clears some cookies contain customized preference and logon information for previously visited websites. Once deleted, the website may prompt for this information again.
Pleas let us know if the above steps work for you.
    Have a good day.

  • No "Clam shell" mode with MBP?

I have used powerbook with an external display and mouse with the lid closed (clam shell mode -as they call it). But when I try the same with MBP, I get the display for a few seconds and the mouse stops responding and the system seems to sleep. Waking up with the external keyboard/mouse makes the cycle reapeat - losing the display and MBP sleeping in few seconds.
No problem at all with the external display and mouse when the lid is open.
    Any insights?

Do you have the power adapter plugged into the MacBook? If not, it will sleep after a few seconds.

  • Sleep mode with external monitor

I've noticed that if I'm using my Macbook connected to an external monitor then sleep mode cannot be initiated by simply closing the lid.
The system starts to enter sleep then bounces out of that mode and remains running (with the dock having moved to the external screen)
Initiating sleep thru' the on/off button seems to work.
Isn't this what Beta versions are for?

    Hi Ruby326,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
This does sound like a very frustrating situation. I understand that your keyboard and trackpad not responsive after waking from sleep and you are forced to shut down to get them to respond. In this situation I would recommend resetting the computer’s PRAM and testing fresh. Please read over and follow the instructions for this process in the attached article.
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    Have a great day,

  • How to initiate sleep mode with x61.

    Hi there,
I just received the x61 latop and I am trying to determine the best way to turn on the sleep mode when I take the x61 out of the dfocking station.  Is it even possible?  I have a scheme set up in Presentation Director when I remove the laptop from the docking station but it does not make the laptop sleep.  I could not find any option in Presentation Director to do this.  So what is the best method.  I guess the only time I would want it on is when I take out docking station to go home.  Then I would want it on.  However to take it out of the docking station and take it to a meeting I guess I would not want to turn on sleep mode.  So I have two scenarios.  To take out of docking station to go to meeting and to go home. How can I make the distinction in Presentation Director to only put it on when I go home?
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.

    Hi Drieux,
I have tried with odiwaitfordata tool but no luck.
    What I did,
I have added odiwaitfordata tool after last scenario in PKG1 and added below command and regenerated the PKG1 and added scheduler with 10 min
    OdiWaitForData "-CONTEXT=WCDS1" "-LSCHEMA=WCDS" "-SQLFILTER=current_state = 0" "-TIMEOUT_WITH_ROWS_OK=NO" "-INCREMENT_DETECTION=NO" "-TABLE_NAME=CDS_NOTIFICATION"
Can any one please correct me if my development is wrong

  • PowerBook enters sleep mode with charger on and with new battery in Full

    Hi all,
My powerbook enters in Sleep mode when it has a lot of energy. I have the powerbook with the charge on and battery in full charge and it still goes to sleep mode. It happens even when I'am working a lot with the computer. It appears that when a left my computer go to sleep over night the next day e goes a lot to sleep even when I'am working with the computer. I have tried to use just the charger, and just de battery but the error continues. I havemy power setting and it is e best performance (and it never goes to sleep in this mode).
I can only avoid this if I never put the computer to sleep, because I i put it i will start putting it self to sleep.
I have bought a new battery (7 months) and a new charger (2 month) recently, could be this the case?
What is happening to my computer?
It is my computer to ald and tired and needs to sleep a lot :/ ?
    Thanks for any help!

The date only goes to 1970-01-01 if e click in power on without the battery and the AC adapter.
If I remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter e wait many minutes and put back on the battery and the AC adapter a switch the power back on the date staid the same.
I have notice one other think, some times the new battery that a bought in apple store does not charge (a have to remove the AC adapter a plug back in for it to charge), the AC adapter is correctly plug-in but it does not charge. I am begging to suspect that it is something wrong the the hardware (or the battery or the charger) sell by apple store.
Is the any place for replace bad hardware still in warranty in apple store?
What is the place to contact apple suport for this matters?
    Thanks!

  • Mac Pro Crashes Everytime Come back from Sleep Mode with Logic 8 Session on

    Hi All,
I just got this new mac and have Logic Studio Setup on there along with VSL. I use Apogee Ensemble audio interface via firewire and have a Motif XS as my midi controller.
This morning I was in the middle of a session in Logic and then put the computer to sleep for an hour or so. I turned it back on and my 2nd monitor (right dual monitor) said I had to restart my computer. It was locked up. I restarted it and put it to sleep again after 20 minutes and came back 1.5 hours later and the same thing happened.
So, now I restarted it and it has not done it. Any ideas to what is the problem? Everytime i restart it says Mac OSX unexpectedly quit..
Please advise as this is a brand new computer and maybe I'm doing something wrong. Thanks.

I have an Ensemble also. Most likely, the issue is with the Ensemble firewire driver. It doesn't support sleep mode.
In any case, I would suggest shutting Logic down and also turning off the Ensemble if you're going to put the computer to sleep. I know that's a bit of a hassle, but it will solve your problem.

  • Problems after sleep mode with wifi connection

I got my first iMac the other week but i keep having problems after it has gone into Sleep Mode.
Once i log back in to use my iMac again i can't seem to go online  =and have lost connectivity with emails etc.  Its showing that i'm still connected to my wifi and the only way to fix it is to restart.
I have already connect chat support about this and the made me reset my PRAM and reset the systems management controller (SMC)
    Does anyone have any ideas??

Personally I don't let the computer sleep, I set the display to sleep. This has the same net effect and in the 8+ years I have been using OS X I have never had a problem. Set the Computer's sleep setting to Never and set the display sleep to the amount of time you had the computer sleep set at.
However if you want to try with computer sleep instead of display sleep check if the wake for network access box is checked. If it already is they your issue is likely somewhere else.

  • OS X Server v10.8 prevents sleep mode (standby/suspend)

    Hi,
Like many other people in this community I am trying to enable sleep mode for my iMac 27" (late 2009) to save costs while it is not being used. Sleep mode worked fine on Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the iMac would go into sleep (a.k.a standby) whenver it wasn't used. Thanks to Wake-On-Lan (WOL) I was still able to server website etc.
I just upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion and because I like the idea of using the iMac as Web Server and Time Machine Server (using an external USB HD attached to the iMac), I bought and installed OS X Server v10.8.
Unfortunately, as many other people also have reported, the iMac no longer goes to sleep. I have configured it to go to sleep after 10 minutes, but all it does is turn off its display, but the computer is still running.
    Executing
    pmset -g assertions
in the Terminal outputs the following:

I tried the following command to fix it, but I believe it is aimed at something else, since it hasn't fixed the issue:
    sudo pmset -a ttyskeepawake 0
Is there any other command or way to get the iMac back to his usual sleep (a.k.a. standby) behavior?
    Thank you,
    TorBu

    Hi everybody,
First of all, just want to say that I'm a "me too" person. I've been working hard on this for many hours until I finally read a thread about the pmset command.
That's where I found out that, like you, HTTPD on my Mountain Lion Server was preventing my Macbook Pro from sleeping.
Strangely enough, turning off the Web services in Server.app does not remove this entry. However, the "sudo apachectl stop" command did the trick. Thanks torbus_us!
Actually, the only reason I installed Server.app was that I needed the web server for my web development work. I'm starting to regret the decision of upgration from 10.7 to 10.8...
Since I'm only using Server for httpd, would you recommend uninstalling ML Server and installing Apache as a start-alone service? Any thoughs?
    Thanks.
