Prevent songs from uploading to Match

I have a number of songs that I have on my machine, but do no want have uploaded to Match (Things such as Christmas Songs). I have unchecked them in iTunes but they still seem to be counting towards my 25,000 song limit on Match
If I delete them, but not trash them, they are removed from the cloud but then I lose visibility on my machine and cannot turn them on when I want to hear them
So the question is how can I have them on the machine but not have Match try to upload them

I also would like to know how I can prevent songs from uploading to iTunes match.  I've got all kinds of audio test tracks, songwriting sketches, etc., and about 2000 sample audio tracks that go with a book that I own - I don't want ANY of these things going up to iCloud.  It's a waste of resources and time.  There should be a check box under Options in the song information window, or something like that, that allows for a track to not be uploaded to iCloud.
Also, unchecking a song doesn't prevent it from uploading to the cloud.

  • How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?

How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?
I subscribed to iTunes Match a few weeks ago and my entire library was uploaded.  I do not want all of my library in the Cloud, especially given that there is a space/song limitation.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Apologies Brandon, we have moved on somewhat from your original question.
What I have done is effectively used Michael's idea. I'll try to explain a little further.
You can run iTunes match on up to 5 computers, and you can edit the iCloud library on any of them. Michael's idea works on the basis that, whilst you can edit the iTunes library, you can't remove songs from other computers.
I have basically the same setup as you, but I also have a MacBook Air, which is running iTunes Match but without any music downloaded so it all streams.
I added the songs on my main library, which then added them to the cloud. When they appeared on my MacBook I deleted them straight away. As there was no local copy I was asked if I wanted to delete them from the cloud, and I said yes. When I went back to my main computer I found that, as expected, they were still there, but the iCloud status is "removed". They are therefore on my library but not in iCloud.
Since then I have run match updates a couple of times and there is no sign as yet that it will try to add them back to the cloud. It's too early to say that this is a definate answer to your problem, but it looks very hopeful.
Our other discussions have moved onto the 25,000 son limit, which I note from your comment you may also be interested in. Watch this space.
If you don't have access to a second computer to run the other library on then look back at Michael's post where he explains how to set it up on your main computer.
    Hope that clarifies a bit.

  • Change of functionality in deleting songs from iCloud/iTunes Match with the 11.0.2 version of iTunes?

I updated to iTunes 11.0.2 and this version brought a change of wording regarding deleting songs from iCloud/iTunes Match, and I'd like to know if there are any changes in functionality to match the change in wording:
With version 11.0.2, when I try to delete any song (uploaded, matched or purchased) I'm presented with a pop-up dialog box that asks me if I'm sure and also gives me a "Also hide this song from iCloud?" option.
In prior iTunes versions the pop-up dialog box would ask instead "Also delete this song from iCloud?".
Has the functionality changed? If so, what's the difference in functionality between 11.0.2 and previous versions? If the functionality of deleting songs has changed, how do I delete an uploaded song from both my local library and iCloud/iTunes Match?

I am having the same issue- pelase could anyone help? Mods?

  • How can an iTunes Match user prevent songs from being uploaded to the iCloud?

Has anyone who is currently using iTunes Match found a way to prevent selected songs in their music library from being uploaded to the iCloud. I have a number of audio files that are hour long mixes, but aren't quite large enough to run afoul of the 200MB size limit. I'd like to keep using iTunes Match, but would like to prevent it from trying to upload any of these larger files. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Another oddity I just discovered is that if I turn on wifi hotspot on my phone and connect my iMac to my phone's 3G service then iTunes on my iMac will stream music just fine from iTunes match (yes, the music was only in the cloud, not on my drive).
I've tried everything I can think of to get iTunes Match to play tracks over cellular.. including totally deauthorizing all my computers and devices, totally removing all tracks my itunes match in the cloud and re-scanning/uploading everything. Purchased new tracks, and they won't play unless they are downloaded. But they will play just fine when previeing them for purchase in iTunes app.

  • Is there any way to prevent songs from replaying in GB IOS

I'm having a problem with the IOS version of Garageband.  When my song gets to the end, it automatically goes back to the beginning and replays the song.  What do I need to do to prevent this from happening?  I just want the song to end and stop play mode.

    You can't disable Cycle Mode.
A workaround would be to extend the length of the song (max 320bars)..
    Hope that helps

  • ITunes not playing songs from iCloud in Match

I keep 50% of my music library on an external HD. I subscribed to iTunes Match to be able to access my entire library when my HD isn't available (traveling, HD in sleep mode, etc.). But iTunes won't play any songs that are stored on my external HD when the HD isn't available, even when the songs were purchased on iTunes, and even when iTunes has matched them and shows them as "purchased." When I try to play the song, iTunes says the external HD isn't available, and offers to allow me to locate the song (which is impossible because I'm not near the external HD). Why won't it use the copy that's stored in iCloud? Isn't this the whole point of iCloud, i.e., to allow me to stream my music library from anywhere?
I have an active internet connection, and I've already updated Match and turned it off an on again. But iTunes won't play any of my songs from iCloud; only from my Macbook hard drive, which certainly isn't the point of Match.

Sorry Michael, but while this may not be considered a bug technically, it's REALLY poor design.  I have the same issue - I have too much music to store on my computer, so I store it on an external drive.  How does Apple expect people to figure out how to adjust for this "design"??  I'm an experienced mac user of over 20 years, and I didn't understand what was going on (aside from my external drive not being connected).  New iTunes/iCloud users are definitely not going to understand.  Saying this is simply how it's supposed to work is not acceptable.  Frankly, Apple has totally messed up their iCloud implementation - it's SO convoluted, especially if you have any iDevices.
For this issue, Apple really needs to change iTunes so that it's smart enough to stream music to a temp directory (and then have a setting in the Options in which you can empty it manually or according to a schedule, exiting iTunes, etc.), or at the very least, allow you to set up mulltiple libraries (which you can do manually, but iTunes doesn't track them at the same time).

  • Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs. When I put the DVD into another computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. What's preventing songs from being ripped?

Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs from my iTunes library to share with a friend. When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Anybody know what's preventing me from ripping what's on the DVD?

When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes.
The import command only works with audio CDs. So if you burned the files in mp3 format, try instead using the "File > Add file to library" or "File > Add folder to library" commands.

  • Use iPhone/iPad to Permanently Delete Songs from iCloud/iTunes Match

I have iCloud and iTunes Match, but I am doing my annual "spring cleaning" (yes, I know it's winter) of songs I don't really listen to or want to keep anymore. I want to delete them permanently from iCloud/iTunes Match. I used to do this in iTunes on a computer. I would delete them from the Song list and it would prompt me with a question to the effect of "Do you want to delete these from iCloud as well?"
Well, I am operating solely on an iPhone and an iPad now. I don't have a computer anymore. So I don't have iTunes software anymore and thus don't have this means of deleting songs from iCloud. I don't know how to delete songs from iCloud USING my mobile device. If I delete a song from a playlist or from the device itself, it is still out there in iCloud and still shows up in the list of songs at my disposal. I DON'T want to cheat the system and turn off the settings feature that "shows all music" in iCloud because then I won't be able to see anything I have at my disposal in iCloud. I want to be able to see my songs in iCloud, but I want to be able to permanently delete from said iCloud songs that I don't care about anymore.
So how do I do it from iOS devices?
Please don't tell me it can't be done without iTunes on a computer. That will just irritate me and drive another nail in the coffin of my growing frustration with Apple.

I honestly don't think you can do it. Nothing I've found online allows you to do this, which is awful because these songs still show up and play when on shuffle. I've even selected "only show me music on this device" and I still see some songs I've deleted and are only on icloud and I have no option to swipe and delete. I'm with you... forcing me to do this on my pc when every other need for syncing has since been removed is very annoying.

  • How to prevent songs from being played on iphone 5

I have an iPhone and I'll come across a song that I don't want to hear anymore. I'll delete it off my phone and then when I charge my phone it shows up again!!!
On the desktop iTunes I can "uncheck" a song and it won't be played in iTunes. How do I do the same for my iPhone since delete isn't working?

If you are charging your phone by connecting it to your PC then it is probably doing a sync at the same time (Automatic sync).  This means your deleted songs (from the phone) are being reloaded by the sync. You need to uncheck them from your sync in Music within iTunes

  • How do I delete songs from iPad without Match deleting them from iCloud?

I've used Match to put a bunch of songs on my 16GB iPad and now I've run out of memory and need to remove some of them.  How do I remove them from the iPad without Match automatically deleting them from iCloud and iTunes on my laptop?  I only want to take the songs off the iPad.

This is a topic that has been covered in-depth on this forum.
You can delete individual songs by swiping across them and tapping the delete button. Or, in the Artist of Album view tap-n-hold for a second, then tap the "x" in the upper left to delete. Or you can delete all downloaded music by going to Settings > General > Usage, tapping Music, then swiping and tapping the delete button.
This will not remove the music from the cloud or the iTunes library.

  • How can I prevent songs from being duplicated when adding them to my iPod?

One feature I really like about iTunes is that if you have a song on a playlist, iTunes will notify you if you are adding a duplicate song to that playlist. I am looking for the same help managing my iPod.
For example if I have a playlist in iTunes called "AAA" and a corresponding playlist on my iPod called "AAA", my aim is to have the same content on each. If it is a playlist that I update/change on an ongoing basis on my iTunes, my issue is that I have to remember what songs I have updated or deleted off of this playlist in order to avoid duplicated songs when I have my iPod plugged in.
I would like to just drag this "AAA" playlist from iTunes to my iPod and have just the new songs be added to the "AAA" playlist on my iPod.
Hopefully there something I'm overlooking and therefore a way to constrict what is added to the iPod. If you know how to do this, please let me know because this would make iPod music management just as great as iTunes management.
    THANKS!

I turned off "manually manage music and videos" years ago and sync my iPods by syncing "selected playlists". Any playlist changes I make on the Mac are automatically synced to the iPods when connected.

  • Deleting either duplicate prevents song from playing. Solution?

I have duplicates. TONS. I went through my library and deleted each and every one individually. All 2000 of them.
Then I started to play my library. Now I'm told the files can't be found. Awesome. All that tedious work and I have to restore the entire library only to have duplicates again.
Prior to deleting, there is only one copy of each song in the media folder. So my files are not the problem. I simply move the media folder over from my external drive and drop it into the current media folder on the computer.
I did a test run. When deleting duplicates, it doesn't matter which one I delete....the song won't play. Any advice on how to keep duplicates from showing up?

If you have true duplicates then there should be two files, one for each duplicate. The files may be identical.
While it is easy to end up with duplicates in a playlist, I'm not sure how to get duplicates in the main library of the exact same file in the exact same location.

  • How do you prevent songs from playing on iphone (iOS7)?

My iphone keeps playing music that's not on it. I have albums with songs that I don't wish to hear and didn't download when I purchased them. Some have never been on my Mac. I also have Christmas music that I don't want to hear unless it's December. But my phone keeps shuffling these songs up. Or the interviews that come with some albums… it's relentless.
When I tap on the listing button, it indicates which song on the album is playing and in the cases I have looked at, has the cloud download button beside it.
What I'd like to know is how to keep these songs in their boxes until I want to hear them. Any ideas? For what it's worth, I don't understand how this bug/feature exists. I don't want to see this music, let alone listen to it (and be forced to stop what I'm doing to skip the track).
    Thanks,
    Ken

Thanks. That worked. I already had the automatic download settings off but didn't know about the hide songs option. Everything looks better now.
After doing so, most of the songs vanished but not all. I did a restore on the device and while trying to synch the songs back onto the phone, which took a while to get started (the usage bar in iTunes only showed 'apps' and 'other', lots of 'other', meanwhile, the Music app on the phone indicated that it was empty), I noticed a section in itunes under all the checklists that seemed to be related to manually added songs. It's gone now and I don't really want to try to get it back but it implied that if you manually dragged a song onto the device, the section would auto-generate and the song would show up there. Extra weirdness is that the song is one of those never downloaded songs that's greyed out when looking at the album.
    Anyway, thanks again.

  • Can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud, can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud

once you upload songs, photos or documents fron ipod touch to icloud, can you delete them from ipod touch to free up memory from ipod touch and can you access them from icloud without downloading to ipod?

You can't upload music to iCloud unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber, and if you are the songs are uploaded or matched from the iTunes library on your computer, not your device.  Photos are only uploaded to Photo Stream temporarily (30 days), for up to 1000 photos so it's not meant to be a permanent storage option.  The uploaded photos are also generally of lower quality than the originals on your device.  Also, only photos taken on your device after turning on Photo Stream are uploaded.  Finally, when you turn Photo Stream on, uploaded photos will be streamed back to your device in a Photo Stream album (so it actually uses some of your memory rather than saving it).  As for documents, only iWork documents are uploaded.
If you really want to free up storage on your device consider more permanent cloud storage services such as DropBox (which will handle photos and all documents).

  • IPhone would not let me delete individual song from library, tried deleting album to remove music from local storage, now certain songs from album do not show in iTunes match on iPhone only on computer

Upon completion of matching and uploading my very large library of music (+15,000), I wanted to see how iTunes Match worked on my iPhone. I started it and selected the first album in the list to listen to. I let it play the entire album and then decided that I wanted to remove certain songs off of the iPhone's local storage. Tried to delete the individual songs and it would not let me. So I figured that I would go back and just delete the album. After selecting delete I went back to listen to one of the songs on the album and realized that it deleted several of the songs from the iTunes Match completely. When pulling iTunes up on my computer the songs are still there but does not give me the option to upload to iTunes Match.
I have tried turning off Match on iPhone and back on (doesn't seem to do anything cause when turned off the iPhone still displays the music.)
Then tried power cycling. (Still shows the music)
Then I tried power cycling again and resyncing the phone and the iPhone still shows the music as it was on the phone.
How do I get the music to be accessable on the iPhone again.. I have been messing with this for the course of 3 hours now.. and any help would be appreciated!!
    iPhone 3GS 8GB

Actually Michael I know exactly how to delete.. The iPhone would not let me swipe to the left to delete the individual song, so I went to the album view and did it there.. The issue I am having is a bug because it removed 3/4 of the albums availablity off my iPhone.. You post proved no help because it is basic troubleshooting which, if you read my post, I have already done.. I did however figure out how to fix my issue on my own.. Basically I had to remove the album from my iTunes on my computer and upload it again to iTunes Match..
