Prevent time-stretch when changing BPM

Hi there,
I recently recorded someones vocals over a track I was given from a CD. I didnt care to change BPM settings in my logic project because I already had a backing track that didnt need any additional midi tracks or other instruments. The BPM was set to 120bpm, standard. Now I decided I do want to create some new beats over this but when I change the project BPM to 166 (which is the true BPM of the track) all my vocal tracks are time-stretched and messed up.
How do I prevent this time stretch? I already tried pasting the audio tracks to a new project with 166bpm but that didnt work either. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your replies however that doesnt seem to fix the problem. The follow tempo checkbox was already unmarked..and when i select all my tracks and press this button a couple of times it seems to go buggy and disappear and stuff.

  • Error when changing BPM: "Insufficient access privileges"

    Hello, Logic Express gurus:
I am just a lowly fitness instructor trying to mix her own music (self taught DJ). When changing the BPM here's what I do:
I double click on the song track, then from the window that pops up, I click on the "Factory" pull down menu, then choose "Temp and Pitch Machine". When I change the BPM to the desired tempo and click "Process & Paste", I get the following error:
"Insufficient access privileges for operation (Result code -5000)", then another error stating:
    "Error when creating temp file!"
It used to work beautifully. Can anyone assist me? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, Matt. I tried your suggestion, but it did not make a difference in the tempo. I am bringing in MPEGs, by the way.
My method was working fine until I began getting this error message. Any further suggestions from you or anyone?

  • Prevent subtitle stretching when viewing 16:9 letterbox?

When you view subtitles of a 16:9 project, the subtitles appear thinner when using the letterbox-mode of a DVD player. Here is what the readme file says:
"When you view subtitles over widescreen video in 4:3 Letterbox or in 4x3 Pan & Scan mode on a set-top DVD player, the subtitles appear thinner horizontally. This can be mitigated by increasing the horizontal scale of the subtitle text, or by widening the subtitles's bounding box in the Monitor panel." (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=332138)
Is there any way to prevent the stretching (or actually not-stretching) of the subtitles -- not just to mitigate it? I've read about dual subtitle streams and I wonder if this is possible with Encore DVD.
    Thank you,
    Thomas

The subtitles are generated by the DVD player during playback. Same thing for the button subpicture highlights. The DVD spec provides more than one "mode" for button highlights because the highlights have to line up with the buttons. But the side effect is that you, the author, are limited in the number of buttons that you can put on a widescreen menu. Subtitles don't have the same "modes".
AFAIK There is no way to control this in Encore except as outlined in the readme.

  • Time stretching when copying and pasting between projects

I have had 18 separate instrument tracks of a live gig recorded in pro tools, so I simply imported the audio files into logic. I am also using the audio from a video camera to capture the reverb of the hall. The problem is that the audio files are 3 hours long and I would like to mix each song separately. To do this I would like to have a project for each song.
So I have cut the files up into their respective songs, the problem comes when I try and copy the tracks into a new project. The audio files get stretched making the tuning and tempo lower. I have tried copying and pasting as well as dragging the files over to the new project one at a time. I have also checked that the sample rates are the same, which they are.
Does anyone know why logic would be doing this? Are there any fixes you can recommend?
    Thanks,
    Dave

The sample rates of the files may be the same, while those of the projects may not.
Really, if it's slower and lower, by just about a semitone, then you're definitely playing a 48kHz file in a 44.1kHz project.

  • Prevent Time Machine from changing device icon...

When I use Time Machine on a disk, it changes the icon. In my particular circumstance, I don't want to do this as the attached device is a Drobo containing lots of other stuff, and I'd rather keep the default icon (a nice picture of the Drobo itself).
    How do I do this?

    Thomas A Reed wrote:
You should not be mixing Time Machine backups and other data on the same volume. TM will fill the volume, which will make it difficult to work with other files on that volume.
As I understand it, Time Machine only performs differential backups, so unless I'm regularly creating and destroying large amounts of data, it probably won't use much disk space at all?
If you wish to do this, you should partition the Drobo into two volumes, one for the TM backups and one for the other stuff.
An annoying feature of Drobo (that I discovered after purchasing) is that their website both recommends and discourages this! The Drobo software only works properly if you create one volume using Drobo dashboard. If you partition the disk, Drobo then only sees (and reports on) the first partition. Adding more disks to (or upgrading disk capacity in) the Drobo only increases the size of the second partition, so you have to make the first one your fixed-size Time Machine partition. When I tried this, it seemed to affect the blue lights on the front of the Drobo, which also only reported on the Time Machine partition - the very partition I don't care about as Time machine manages itself!
Of course, if you do that, be aware that backing up data from one partition onto the TM backup on another partition is no good... it would all still be on the same drive, and thus all gone when the drive fails.
This is only true of a single external disk. In a RAID (or RAID-like) system, when a single drive fails, your data is preserved while you source a replacement disk.
Anyway, all of this is a distraction from my original post, which remains unanswered.

  • Why Does Video Stretch When Changing Filter Setting During Encoding?

    Hi,
I've exported my video as h.264 720x480. I've burned it to a dvd. Looks pretty good but the brightness is too much. I re-exported as h.264 except this time I lowered the brightness slightly with the filter setting. (don't want to really touch project settings). Brightness is fine now, but the video stretched vertically for some reason. I played the two .mov files on my mac and the stretching definitely occurred during export.
Any ideas what's happening here and what the solution is? I find this bizarre.
    Thanks!
    Steve

  • How to prevent time sync when synchronising

    Hi,
I have a problem where I dont want iTunes to update time on iPhone with System Time. I keep my laptop to Norway timing and my iPhone to 10 minutes ahead of actual time so I dont get late. I am using iTunes 10.3.1.55, but whenever I plug-in the iPhone, it immediately changes the iPhone time to System Time.
I have tried all option like below but nothing worked.
Settings -> General -> Date & Time -> Set Automatic to OFF.
Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Time Zone Support to ON and Time Zone to Oslo.
This was not hapenning some time back and recently started. I think it has started after I restored my iPhone to company settings and then again restoring from Backup.
Please help me as this has become very annoying and I dont want to keep changing time.
    Thanks in advance.

On Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys whilst you connect the iPod. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list.
Make sure it does appear before you release the keys.
If you want to manage the iPod content manually, it's drag and drop I'm afraid.
There are methods of auto syncing selected content such as playlists though.

Cortana may not speak your name when tapping the "Hear how I'll say it" button when setting up your name for the first time or when changing your name in the settings panel.

There is no workaround for this issue. However, you can still complete the process of setting or changing your name.

  • Clips shift position on timeline when using time stretch

    Premiere Elements 10, Win 7 x64,
I put together a timeline that had four video tracks. When I added a fifth track I started having problems. Specifically, when I put a still image or video clip onto the fifth track and then used time stretch on that newly added clip, the existing clips on the third and fourth tracks shifted their position on the timeline in response to the time stretch applied to the clip on the track above. Why does this happen? I would expect the clips on the lower video tracks to NOT move position in response to a time stretch change to a clip on a track above. How I can I get them to stay put while manipulating the duration of clips on the tracks above them?
    Thank you for any insights.
I have attached three images to make what I am experiencing more clear than perhaps my words describe above.
(top) Image 001: timeline before any change
(middle) Image 002: timeline after adding video track 5 and adding a still image to that track
(bottom) Image 003: timeline after applying time stretch to the still image clip on track 5, showing shift of clips on tracks 3 & 4

When Adobe was designing the operations on the PrE Timeline, it was determined that the majority of users WOULD want the Ripple. That does seem to be the case. The addition of the Ctrl/Cmd modifier key accommodates those users, or those instances, where the Ripple is not desired.
Interestingly, PrPro, PrE's "big-brother" does things in the opposite order. The user holds down the Ctrl/Cmd key to GET the Ripple. The designers figured that the users of PrPro would have different desires, than those of PrE. As I use both programs, I have to keep reminding myself which program I am using at that time - to get the Ctrl/Cmd modifier key working, as I wish, in each program - just the opposite of each other.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

    NicholasLiban -
When you use the Lion restore as described, it does a fresh install on the hard drive that you can select at the beginning of the process.  This provides a complete install of the very latest version of Lion, including the recovery partition.  The drive that you choose for the installation destination winds up like what you would have on a brand new computer from Apple.

  • Time Zone...When changing date and time.

After having updated to version 10.6.1, I am still experiencing the same top sites glitch as everyone else. However, is anyone else's time zone graphics funky (missing squares?) and really unresponsive when moving across the earth from side to side?

For me - I am pretty anal about keeping my camera's time accurate, and I always adjust time on import to the correct time zone if I am shooting in a different area (I live in AZ time, and when I shoot on the east coast i set the time zone to eastern on import). So I doubt I would ever use that feature.
If you ever do need this feature, be aware that the date and time displayed in the Adjust Date and Time dialogue box are the date and time in the time zone your computer is set to, not the time zone the picture was taken in.
So if you have a picture taken on the east coast and you open the adjust date/time dialogue, you will see the time for the picture in AZ time (a few hours earlier than the time displayed in the Image Date field). To set the time for the picture, you have to figure out what time it was in AZ when the picture was taken, and enter that time.
After playing around with this I've filed it as a bug with Apple. Even if they aren't going to let you change the time zone (functionality I think is needed), they should at least consistently use the same time zone with a picture, rather than forcing you to do time zone conversions by hand.
