Prevent Web Clip Icons

I am using Apple Configurator to push out web clips to the iPad that have custom icons that I have created. However as soon as you actually tap on the web link and go to the site, the web clicp icon is replaced by the one provided by the website, not the one provided by me.
Is there any way to ensure that the icons are only the ones that I push via configuration profile?

Hi Kevin,
Inicio is the first page you see in my website, but it is not index.html. In fact "Inicio" is acting like my start page, but I have many different websites made with iWeb.
I have my domain www.carolaclavo.com redirected to .Mac so it's easy for users to get there and avoid typing all this: web.mac.com/carolaclavo/iWeb/carolaclavo/Inicio.html
Now I'm trying to get it working using the original address, no redirections, but they say it's not working to add the icon.
I have many webs made on iWeb in my .Mac space, and no other hosting service. If I could access web.mac.com/carolaclavo/iWeb/carolaclavo and drop there the icon file, it would work, but is not accesible afaik. I can't edit index.htm which I guess is stored in the same directory, but I'm not sure as the files I see in the iDisk look like my web, but the address is not web.mac.com… but idisk.mac.com… ?
This looks very hard to handle, they should add a new feature in iWeb. Looks impossible to customize the icon for the iPhone when it comes to .Mac pages, and that's stupid IMHO.

  • Web Clip Icons v App Icons

One thing that apple has nailed is the way the applications look on the iPhone...
However, web clips look awful, especially now that my iphone has loads of wonderful apps on it..
I know you can use http://www.wepclip.us and this does work very well but it has to connect to this site before loading the site you are trying to navigate too! (very frustrating when in a low reception area)
So, anyone know how you can change these icons??
I'm fed up of them looking so ugly!!
    Simon

Sometimes when you create a web clip you get a cool icon. That is because the website developer included this tag <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="icon.png"/> in the header. Mostly you get a smudgy little screen shot of the page you were on.
However, you can manipulate the page to get the screen shot you want. Enlarge a section of the page then tap ‘Add to Home Screen’. You will see a little tiny preview of what the icon will look like. If it isn’t what you want cancel the action and play around with the page until you get something you like. Have fun.

  • Iphone Config Utility and web clip icons

    Hi
I am trying to import a .png file into ICU to use as a web clip. I have created one in paint shop pro and one in Photoshop both have a 57 * 57 pixel size. Whenever I select either file I get the following error
"value does not fall within the expected range"
I am running ICU on XP.
Can anyone offer some advice or tips

Real sorry guys, even though it's been 2 years since original post, but I've fixed it.
I am using iPCU 3.6.2.300 and the problem was not on the iPCU, but, you can fix your image on Photoshop like below:
iPad (Retina display) 152x152px; Resolution: 72 px/inch; Save as Bitmap (.bmp) with OS/2 file format.
and for other devices, just follow the guidelines for size (in pixels) at the iOS Developer Library here, with resolution either 72px/inch or 96px/inch. Just remember to save as Bitmap with OS/2 file format, not Windows.
    Regards,
    Phillmont.

  • Web Clip Icon for iphone

The instructions below are posted on the developer apple site. I have tried to follow these but have been unable to make this happen. Could someone flush this out a bit more for me. I have made an image called apple-touch-icon.png and saved it at every directory level and placed
    <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png"/>
in the index and welcome page inthe <head> section.
    Thanks!
    Create a WebClip Bookmark Icon
iPhone and iPod touch allow a user to save a WebClip bookmark to your site on their Home Screen.
To specify a bookmark icon for all pages of a web site, place a PNG image named "apple-touch-icon.png" at the root directory of your web server - similar to the "favicon.ico" for site icons.
To override the site bookmark icon on a specific web page, insert a <link> element similar to <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/customIcon.png"/> within the <head> element of the page.
The bookmark icon dimensions should be 57x57 pixels. If the icon is a different size it will be scaled and cropped to fit.
Safari will automatically composite the icon with the standard "glassy" overlay so it looks like a built-in iPhone or iPod application.

I used Textedit (because I have iWeb06) to add my code so the procedure may be a little different in iWeb08 but.... the code needs to go in the header of your file ie somewhere between <head> and </head>, preferably on it's own line so it doesn't mess with any other code on the page. The file then needs to be saved using its original name ( mebbe make a renamed backup of it first in case of disaster! )
Once that is done sync your iDisk to upload this file to the web server. You can tell if this part is working by viewing the page (the online page) in Safari, right clicking on it and selecting 'View Source', this will show you if the page really does contain your new code, if not then the page you are editing is either not the correct one or there is a problem syncing to the dotMac server.
The bit that stumped me for a while was choosing the correct file to edit. Make sure your index or home_page.html file is in iDisk>Web>Sites and not the one on iDisk>Sites.
    Good luck

  • Custom web clip icons for iphone

    Friends-
Can anyone help me? I'm trying to create custom icons for my favorite websites on my iphone 3GS. I know it could be done I just don't know how to do it.
    Thanks.

You can't do it directly on your phone, they have to be created on the web site in PNG image file format and then saved to the web site's root directory. Unless the web site has created a custom icon, in most cases, the icon that appears on the home screen is a picture of the website it links to.

  • Problem with Web Clipping and External Application

When I use Web clipping with INLINE rendering on usual sites I can move under links, not leaving a portal.
But if I try to make it via the self-made provider with External Application then links do not work.
I press them and it appear in the same place!
Authorization via External Application passes successfully, that is the page is displayed correctly.
    But links do not work.
In what there can be a problem?
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)

In order to prevent some urls and internal websites from being cached use url bypassing. This way these urls will not be cached and the users can directly use them without being asked to log in.
To enable transparent error handling and dynamic authentication bypass, and to configure static bypass lists, use the bypass global configuration command. To disable the bypass feature, use the no form of the command.

  • How can I get back the Web Clip widget in Dashborad?

    Dear all,
I accidentally deleted the Web Clip widget together with the Web Clip.wdg in Library/Widgets/ folder by AppCleaner some time ago. Now I cannot use this function to clip content in pages. I have the widget icon in Safari and can crop the webpage without problems, but after I did this action, nothing appeared or happened in the Dashboard since the original web clip widget file is gone.
I would like to know where and how I can get back the Web Clip.wdg file so that I can perform the Web Clip function again?
I just saw a user who posted a similar topic on Dec 28, 2008 and his/her problem is solved. I have this same problem like his/hers.
I would appreciate if anyone can help me, thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you very much for your help.
I have tried to use Time Machine to get back the Web Clip but still couldn't, and very strange is when I click Time Machine, I can only choose Windows Applications as the back up disk but not Macintosh Applications, so I cannot restore anything from Macintosh applications.
I think the best is if anyone has this widget on their Mac and can kindly send it to me by e-mail?
I would appreciate it so much.

  • Browser preferences - web clip incompatible with pop-ups?

    Hi,
I'm a newbie to iOS & Safari and I've haven't been able to work out the following:
I use a web-browser client app for work.
Since it is an app (with its own built-in navigation), I'd like to clear up space on my screen and use Safari in Full-Screen Mode.
I've therefore created what I believe is called a "Web Clip" (to add an icon with a direct link to the apps' login screen on my desktop/start screen).
When I double-click on this link, no Safari toolbar shows up (address box, navigation buttons, page tabs, etc.) so the interface is neat and has the feel of a standalone app.
However, a couple of functions stop working in this mode (they work fine in the "standard mode"):
I don't receive pop-ups (I'm able to launch reports against the server, which in turn is supposed to send back a PDF-file which should open in a new window or tab).
    I can't use a click-on email-link to create a message (it's a simple mailto:x link).
I've searched all the configuration options I could think of but nothing solves this.
    Can it be done?
If not, is there any way to "reduce" the space occupied by Safari's toolbar?
    Thanks

I'm sorry Jim but I just wouldn't know where to start.
This is not a developer question, I'm just trying to configure the iPad appropriately.
Do you know if there is any configuration option on the iPad Air that "enables pop-ups" in Safari "full-screen mode"??

  • Add Web Clip To Home Page

If I add a web clip (e.g. NY Times) to my Home Page, the icon that appears is a picture of part of the "Debug Console," with the word "Error." I get the same result for any other web site. How can I get a more appropriate icon of a web site to appear on the Home Page?

How are you connecting? You have to be connected to the internet at the time you save the icon. It normally saves a small thumbprint of the entire page. If you zoom in (like on the NYTImes title bar) it will save that as your icon.
But if you are not connected at the time you try to connect it won't save anything.
Otherwise, try soft resetting your iPhone and try again.

  • Web Clip with Parameters

I have a page that I would like to webclip. Problem is, the page contains parameters. For the classic example Lets say I have developed a page using php that will list employees belonging to a certain department. The web page would look something like this
    http://mycompany.com/list_emps.php?deptno=30
I want to be able to defined this parameter using a drop down parameter list. Once I hit submit, I would see the web page with desired results. I've seen the demo where something similar to this is done, but in my case I want to see the whole page rendered. In the demo that I've seen you have to pick a certain region and somehow the web clipping tool traps the parameters. I've talked to support and we've tried passing parameters, but nothing seems to work. The support analyst basically told me that I would have to customize something that will allow me to load the page with the passed parameter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming the reason you're using Web Clipping is because you want your content rendered inside of a Portal page. As a much simpler alternative, if you are OK with having your content (page) accessed directly by the browser (outside of Portal), you can use the HTML Portlet (found within the Portlet Builders section of the Portlet Repository) to manually author an HTML snippet that has a has a drop-down like you mentioned and refreshes the page to the constructed URL of http://mycompany.com/list_emps.php?deptno=<whatever is selected>
Using Clipping, there are three issues that you want resolved here:
    1) Full page Clipping - this is easily done just by clicking on the "Select" button instead of the "Section" button when you're on a page you wish to select
    2) Clipping Parameters - In order to do what you asked, you will have to expose deptno as a Clipping parameter.
In order for that to happen, there has to be an existing page (call it page 1) that points to http://mycompany.com/list_emps.php?deptno=30 after a form submission (the 30 is entered as a form input).
As you enter the "Edit Defaults" (marked by the pencil icon) of the Web Clipping Portlet, and enter a starting URL to enter into the Web Clipping Studio, you will enter the URL for page 1 first and then use form submission to navigate (still within the Studio) to http://mycompany.com/list_emps.php?deptno=30.
Upon completion of the Web Clipping Studio (see issue 1 above), you'll return to the "Edit Defaults" where you'll see at the bottom of the page a table that allows you to expose Clipping Parameters - there you'll find deptno, and you can assign it to Param1 through Param5.
    3) Create a Page Parameter that maps to this parameter (you can call it deptno as well) and wire it to the Param1 (or whatever Param you selected in the previous step). This allows for the Clipping Parameter to be passed from the page as a URL parameter.
Upon completion of 3, you can add another HTML Portlet on the page to change the current "Portal" URL based on the deptno value selected in a drop down.
I know it's a lot to read, but hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • Stop Web Clipping's CSS effect on rest of portal

Is there any way to prevent a web-clipping's cascading style sheet from effecting the rest of the portal around it? I already have a CSS that I want to use. It is currently being replaced by the page I am clipping onto my portal page.

Check if it happens with IE 7.0 only. If this is the case, you are hitting the issue document in Metalink Note [418435.1|http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=418435.1]

  • Web Clip Widget Not Saving

I just upgraded from Tiger 10.4.11 to Leopard 10.5.6 (and then to 10.5.7 via Software Update). I tried to use the new Web Clip feature, to create a widget from part of a web page. Safari (v 3.2.3) has the scissors icon, and I am able to select a portion of a web page. When I click the Add button the clip appears in the Dashboard layer, and I can edit it, etc. But when I close the newly-created widget it simply disappears. It does not show up in the row of icons at the bottom of the (Dashboard) screen, nor does it show up in the "Manage Widgets" list--either before or after I close the widget.
The Web Clip widget (the one with the Safari icon that opens Safari if you click on that icon) is present, but I am unable to save a web clip as a new widget.
It has been a while since I added a widget from, for example, Apple's website. But I think I remember getting a message asking me if I wanted to save (or add, or some such word) the widget. I do not get this message when I try to create (and save) a web clip as a widget.
Apple's "help" says that widgets created from webclips stay ther until the user deletes them, but I am unable to get thim onto the list in the first place. Any suggestions?

The Mac Help is ambiguous: "A Web Clip widget remains in your dashboard until you remove it. If you remove a Web Clip widget, the only way to get it back is to create it again."
A "normal" widget shows up (when you press the + inside a circle at the lower left of the screen) in a line of widget icons at the bottom of the screen (as well as in the list you get by choosing "Manage Widgets..."). You may display the widget on the desktop or not, but the widget is not deleted if you dismiss it from the desktop.
This is not true of Web Clip widgets, at least on my Mac. A Web Clip widget does not show up in the Manage Widgets... list or in the line of icons at the bottom of the screen. And dismissing it from the desktop deletes it completely.
Is this what is supposed to happen?

  • Web Clip

    First post...go easy.
I would like to add my own picture to a web clip.
    Any takers?
If already discussed...please provide a leak.

Thank you for the response. I have a blank web clip that take me to my mobile banking account. Just thought there was something I could do about it.
If a true "mobile" site, I would think the bank/developer would of put their own icon on the page to "brand" the site so when you save a webclip it will "brand" it as well. Every other site I have webclipped does that.
As an example, I made a simple page for Northern Virginia Traffic Cameras and have my own icon if a user decides to save a web clip: http://vcreations.net/traffic If you go to that on iPhone then save to Home Page, you will see my icon.

Figured oout that I had restricted deletions of programs.
Settings->General->Restrictions-> (enter your passcode), Turn Deleting Apps ON
Afterward holding an icon until it jiggles will produce the X delete button.
You might want to turn Delete apps OFF after cleaning up.

  • Pushing a web clip to iOS devices fails.

We just set up a Mac Server to do some light mobile device management and I want to put a web clip on every iPads home screen. I set the payload in Profile Manager but when I go to save the new configuration and have it pushed to the iPads they all fail the task. Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks!

I've already asked people to hold off on updating, but without any way to prevent them from updating, I just have to hope...
I installed the iPCU and have looked at the console but I'm not seeing anything relevant. It's like the the command isn't being recieved by the iPad at all (even though Profile Manager shows it as sending, the iPad has internet access, and another iPad on the same network has no problem recieving commands)
Looking at the logs on an iPad that is receiving commands (the iPad with a fresh iOS 7 install, enrolled with Profile Manager after iOS 7 was installed)  I see entries related to MDM:
