Prevent WiFi from Connecting

I'm trying to figure out how I to get a Mac running OS X 10.9, with iCloud Keychain enabled, to *not* automatically connect to WiFi, even if the WiFi radio is turned on and a known network is reachable. The lack of a simple 'disconnect' feature in OS X has me puzzled.
There are two obvious answers to this question, neither one of which is suitable for my use-case. The first answer would be to turn off wifi on the Mac in question. Even though the machine in question is connected to the network via ethernet, I want the WiFi radio to remain on. The second answer would be to delete the known WiFi network(s) from the Mac in question. This second scenario is also not feasable, since removing the WiFi network on one machine will also remove it from all my other machines (the result of iCloud Keychain being enabled).
So with these two options eliminated, what else can I do to acheive the desired result?

Can you expain why you want to do what to do this. That might help someone propose a solution that works for you.
Would it work to tell your WiFi network to "Ask to Join Networks" so that you can refuse?
Some things that come to mind, no sure if they will work for you, but you could create new Network Locations, with different WiFi preferred networks. You could remove the local networks from the list.
If you have multiple Network Locations created, you could use ControlPlane to automatically switch between the Locations depending on whether you are connect to ethernet or not, or based on your location (mostly that would be determined by what WiFi SSID names are in the area).

Firefox says that I have a firewall that prevents me from connecting to Internet?

I´ve used Firefox for a while now and I was really happy until now it just won´t work any more. When i try to connect to Internet with firefox I get a message "Connection failed" My firewall is preventing me from connecting according Firefox. But I´ve really done everything from turning my Firewall off and it still doesn´t work. I do not have any antivirus thats preventing Firefox from connecting. Internet Explorer still works perfect though.

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select ''No Proxy'
Another possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

What you are able to adjust is the USB connection mode by going to the home screen and selecting'recent apps' (in the touch keys bar), settings,storage, the menu (the 3 tiny dots) and tap usb pc connection. If you do not want the software to try and install choose either the internet connection or camera option. Let us know if this helps.

How to prevent itunes from connecting to my IOS devices over wifi

I have a MBP retina that is set to sync (over wifi) with the iOS devices for myself and my wife: 2 ipads, 1 ipad mini and 2 iphones.
When I am launch iTunes in my other Mac - Macbook Air (mid 2010, 13inch, OS X 10.8.2), it will also start to connect the iOS devices - even though I am not using it to sync with my iOS devices.
How to prevent iTunes in my MBA from connecting to all the iOS devices in my house?

I configured all my iOS devices to sync with my MBP Retina (over wifi) - but the problem is that when I am using my MBA, the devices will also automatically connect to the MBA Itunes over wifi when I launch iTunes in the MBA.

Trying to setup Time Capsule, how do i fix status that says "double NAT", preventing wifi from working?

In setting up Time Capsule, it won't connect to wifi. In the status pop up of the Time Capsule under the Airport Utility it says "Double NAT". I dont' know how to fix that.

This is one goofy modem that acts as if it is a router, so that is why the Double NAT issue is appearing.
There are two ways to tackle this:
1) If everything seems to be working OK, you have the option to click to "Ignore" the Double NAT error in AirPort Utility and the Status light will turn green.
Double NAT is usually not too serious of an error on a simple home network, but it will be a deal killer if you have an online gaming console and want to play games interactively on the Internet.
Your connection will slow slightly because of the multiple NAT firewall layers the signal must pass through, but you will likely not notice this in normal browsing, email, etc.
2) Reconfigure the modem to act in "bridge mode" only and then change the method that the Time Capsule uses to connecf from Ethernet to PPPoE service. There will be no NAT errors this way and this is what AT&T recommends....see link below.....but we are talking about some major surgery here.

Airport Express seems to prevent iPads from connected to AppleTV via AirPlay

I posted this in the AppleTV forum before narrowing the problem down to my Airport Expresses. (iPad won't connect to AppleTV)
Here are highlights:
Airport Extreme extended by two Airport Expresses both connected via Ethernet
Two ATV3, one wireless, the other Ethernet. AirServer running on 2008 Mac Pro
iPhone 6 and iPhone 5S can easily stream video via Airplay to any ATV
iPad Air and iPad Mini Retina don't see ATVs in AirPlay menu but do see AXP.
If AXPs are unplugged from power, AXP still shows up in AirPlay menu until iPad is either restarted or the wi-fi turned off then on.
Once the AXP "disconnects" from AirPlay menu (when AXP is powered down) all ATVs in the house show up in AirPlay menu.
Any ideas?
Took the iPad to Genius bar and it worked fine. When at office, I see all ATVs. At home, no ATVs when AXP are live. Been dealing with this for two months!

... It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has been introduced recently in the immediate area that is preventing your AX from getting a good clean signal from the AEBS.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler, iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

My apple TV is preventing me from connecting to iTunes store

I think my daughter updated my apple tv software (she's 2) two nights ago...since then, I cannot login to itunes to watch tv shows or movies. All of the shows we have purchased are showing in the cloud, but we cannot access them. I have tried using different apple ID's, restarting etc. N o luck!

Have you checked your iTunes Store location is correct, have you tried restarting your router.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

i made the mistake of updating Firefox yesterday and with the ssl security fix find that i can longer connect to a web site at a remote data center that is protected by a fortigate appliance.
i know the correct answer is to get the appliance upgraded or replaced but in the meantime i am in desperate need of a workaround. it would be nice if there was an archive of old Firefox versions.
i have changed the config settings to allow renegotiation but i think the problem is more fundamental than that in that it doesn't appear that older versions of ssl are provided anymore.

It is better to use a .cmd or .bat file to set that environment variable and subsequently start Firefox and not set that variable in the system settings as it will there also affect other Gecko (XUL Runner) based software.<br />
Then you can use a shortcut with that cmd file in case you really need it to access that site and run Firefox normally in other cases to be protected.

The promotion between paypal and foxfire is preventing me from connecting to other sites. I do not have a paypal account and therefore does not need this information--can it be removed so my educations sites can load up

I have tried to lead into certain accounts to make credit car payments and connect with my school and since this promotion has been going on my computer stops and a message stating waiting for fedoraproject.org to load. I've got to agree with Allan. It sounds like the hard drive is corrupt at least. It's possible it might be physically failing. Without backups, it's possible your data is already gone. You need a professional to help you.
If you do not have an Apple Store near you or simply don't have the time to spare, there are some things you can try, but you must understand that it's possible these things could make the chances of recovering your data worse than they already are. Perform the instructions to follow at your own risk!
First, you can try repairing your hard drive with Disk Utility. If that works, see if you can start up the machine. If you can, the very first thing you need to do is back up any data you don't want to lose. You may still need to take other steps, as your system may be damaged as well, but getting the data is the important part.
If Disk Utility cannot repair the problems, you can try DiskWarrior. It can repair problems that Disk Utility cannot. However, it also increases the risk of destroying your data if it fails. If it works and you can start up the machine, do the same as I advised for following success with Disk Utility.
If repairs (with either) were successful, but the machine still won't start up, you can try reinstalling the system. Hold down command-R at startup and then just install right on top of the existing system. If all goes well, you'll be able to start up afterwards and can get your data backed up. If all goes badly, it'll further decrease the chances of getting your data back.
If neither can repair the damage, you're in bad shape. You will need a professional to help you, unless you are willing to lose all your data.

FF connects to several IP addresses on start-up, how to prevent it from happening?

Hi, I am wondering how I can turn Firefox off from connecting to several IP addresses when it starts up?
I have set Firefox to remember my visited web pages/tabs, but to not load until the tab is chosen.
I have also gone through the advices on the following page:

and have followed it carefully and disabled everything but to no avail.
Also in the about:config I have renamed all Google http(s) links to see if it prevents FF from connecting as some of the IP addresses leads to Google (173.194.32.*), but no success.
A search here on Mozilla or Google gives very little on this particular matter.
I have also disabled all addons but doesn't help.
The only way to prevent FF from connecting with internet is to delete "prefs.js" and "sessionstore.js", but then I loose all history.
I have also used a clean FF installation and taken the "prefs.js" and "sessionstore.js" so to not loose history, but it doesn't help.

Ok, I have now installed an original version of Firefox 13.0.1, set it up with a basic set of few add-ons for safe browsing being as follow:
* NoScript
* RequestPolicy
* BetterPrivacy
* HTTPS Everywhere
In all cases described below, I browsed to a few pages, afterwards I go to an empty page/tab (about:newtab) before I close the browser, and is set to: "browser.newtabpage.enabled;false" in the hope also a newtab should be empty.

* further on I have disabled a few other things under about:config to stop this "leak", such as webGL, telemetry, rename all google links, etc.
1st test
* I did restart in Off-line mode as described under the link given by jscher2000, when restarting the firewall shows no sign of connection to the internet, not even when I toggle from off-line to on-line.
2nd test
* with all add-ons enabled, I got the following result, see below for the list of IP numbers/info:

As this behavior has apparently nothing to do whether it's portable or non-portable version of Firefox, one can assume it has always been like this as at least between all versions from 13.0.1 to 19.0.2, as the portable version 19.0.2 behaves the same way.

Macbook loses wifi, prevents other devices from connecting too.

I have a strange problem whereby my macbook seems to lose its wifi connection, and prevent all other devices from connecting to wi fi either.
its very odd as the router still shows up in available networks with full signal, but I cannot connect to it and neither any other device, including ipads, mobile phones and various other windows laptops.
This can only be fixed by restarting the router, which is a pain as its tucked away upstairs!
I know its my macbook casuing the problem and not the router as the problem didn't exist until I came home from uni, and it hasn't happened at all over the last two weeks while my laptop was away getting a new battery. Today I got the macbook back and the problem has returned! More than a coincidence me thinks!
This can happen three or four times an evening and is very frustrating, especially for the rest of my family!
Once I have restarted the router the connection normally comes back, however sometimes I get an exclamation over the wifi logo in the menu bar, saying no internet connection.
My macbook is a aluminium 2ghz core 2 duo running OSX Lion with all the most recent updates, and the router is a BT homehub 2.0.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

I have had this problem after my (work provided) 2008 macbook was updated to mountain lion. I have tried all the suggested fixes with some success, resetting PRAM has occasionally sorted this out, deleting the wifi and then re-starting and restoring works, but is very tedious to do every time you need a connection!!
A further wifi problem caused by the update was the loss of access to passwords in keychain- checking the 'access by all applications' box in keychain preferences helped reconnection too.
The tip I wanted to pass on is this-
If you are having these problems, and resetting the wifi has sorted it out, turn off the wifi Every Time before you shut down the machine. This simple action seems to allow the mac to keep it's settings intact, and it can be turned on again without any problems the next time you boot the macine up.
The connection problems can't be hardware- this machine is as fast and stable as the new retina mackbookPro it sits beside- when it can see the signal......

How do I stop my iPhone from connecting to the WiFi connection that my laptop just used?

I have an iPhone (7.1.2) and MacBook Pro (10.9.4). When I connect to a WiFi connection on my laptop, my iPhone always connects to the same network, even though I've explicitly told my iPhone to forget about specific networks.This issue ends up disabling the internet on my iPhone, as I often connect to networks on my laptop that require VPN connections, logins, etc that I am unable or unwilling to do on my iPhone. How do I keep the two separate?

Let me give you an example. I'm at a United lounge at O'Hare Airport right now. They have WiFi here but it requires that you log on in order to connect to the internet. I connect to WiFi from my laptop. All good. Then, immediately, my iPhone connects to the same network. But because I haven't logged on from my iPhone, I can't get online. This kills the internet on my iPhone because I'm connected to a network with no internet access. If on my iPhone I "Forget this Network" and then come back next week, I'll find that it connects to the exact same network.
I travel a lot and almost all of the networks I use on a daily basis require a login of some sort.
I could turn off WiFi but then I have to remember to turn it on when I actually do want to connect to a network, like when I'm at home.
Any idea how to prevent the mirroring of WiFi connections? Or at a minimum make sure the "Forget this Network" option actually works?

My ATV will no longer stay connected to WiFi. Every time I want to use it I have to setup the WiFi from scratch!!!

It's a 1G ATV, 160Gig.
The wireless is an Access Point w/WPA encryption and all DHCP is done by a remote wired router in a closet. Resetting each has had no effect on it. I don't see a setting anywhere on my ATV that I can change to turn off periodic standby mode.
I actually replaced an Airport Extreme w/ this D Link AP & it's worked great for every other device. I had the exact same issue with the Airport Extreme although it seems like after the latest ATV SW upgrade, it does it every day. Previously it would only do it occasionally.

I need to stop network users from changing the proxy settings to avoid the firewall. Is there any way to disable or prevent them from getting to the advanced, connections tab, and changing the settings for the proxy?

You can lock the corresponding prefs, then users won't be able to change the settings.
