Preventing airport from auto connecting to a particular network.

So there is a network near my work that is open and airport always auto connects to it. (I accidentally hit yes once) I want to stop this because at work I go through Ethernet. When I notice it I just turn airport, but I would much rather just tell airport to never connect to this network. Does anyone know of a way?

Try the following...
1. Delete Preferred Network(s)
- System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
- In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
- Delete the offending network(s) from the list
2. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
- Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
- Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
- Restart, or log out then back in.
3. Add Preferred Network(s)
- System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
- In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
- Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
- Restart or log out then back in.

Hello All,
We have a requirement to prevent users from ship confirming on a particular date. This is due to they are performing Annual Physical Inventory.
Is it possible to restrict users performing shipping transactions on this particular date?
I have tried adding exception to the existing Calendar set at org level and there is no customer specific Calendar defined, however it is still allowing me to perform ship confirm.
Please let me know if you have any suggestion on this requirement.

Yes is Possible.
You can add An Exception in Your Shipping Calender.
So when Some one tries to ship an Order on that date Oracle will automatically select Next possible date.

Is there any way to prevent Aperture from Auto Cropping an image?

Is there any way to prevent Aperture from auto cropping an image? I use the "Do Not Crop" aspect ratio often and Aperture constantly picks cropping aspects for me, which is driving me crazy. Can I set "Do Not Crop" as the ratio I want on a more permanent basis anyhow? Thanks for the help.

This is a current bug. Please report it via "Aperture→Send Aperture Feedback".
Just to clarify, the problem is not auto-cropping, the problem is the the crop tool aspect ratio is arbitrarily set (in my case, always to something close to the current crop aspect ratio). You can reset it (on a per-crop basis) to "Do not constrain".
It is very bothersome.
You might try trashing your prefs. Details on the Trouble-shooting page. I have had the bug return more than once.

Firefox drop down not allowing page redirect is preventing me from auto running and installing software

When I try to install software, Firefox window opens with a drop down box stating Firefox is not allowing page to re-direct. I click on allow, and it goes back to original page. It is preventing me from auto run and installing software. I tried several times, and it just runs me in circles. When I click to allow page re-direct, I click auto run and it send me right back to Firefox page with same thing. Very frustrating.

When do you get this redirect?
Is that when you (try to) visit other websites?
Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

You can look for suspicious extensions.

Preventing airport from being turned off

Hello. im the techie at a school and we have been having a lot of problems with students turning off the airport and playing games to evade us from watching them. Is there any way to prevent students from changing the status of the airport ( on /off )?
We run all the users from an OD so if it could be run from the server it would be great. but otherwise it would be just as good if its run from the client.
any ideas?

Would managed accounts be too drastic a solution? Perhaps you could switch the accounts of offending students to such a status.

Airport not "auto" connecting...

When I start my G4 it no longer connects automatically to my network. I have to go to the grayed out airport icon and select my network, then it makes the connection. My imac on same network logs on automatically when I boot up!

Airport no longer connects to OPEN wireless networks

Lots of people seem to think that their airport keeps dropping the connection to OPEN wireless networks because of the 2008-001 airport update. That is probably only true for a Macbook 2,1 (aka Macbook Core 2 Duo).
I had the issue on my Macbook 1,1 (aka Macbook Core Duo). I wiped the system clean. Re-installed OS-X. Applied all updates BUT:
1. Airport 2008-001
2. Security update 2008-002
I also downgraded the Airport firmware to 2007-004 (aka version 1.1.9.3).
Technically speaking this should have resolved the issue but it didn't.
Why do I believe it should have resolved the issue? Because the same approach worked on the Macbook 2,1 and they both have the exact same Airport card.
Now I have no idea how to get it fixed - I think I have tried every possible way. There doesn't seem to be any way to contact Apple coz I don't have a support contract.
But hey, do I need a contract? Apple broke this for me ... they should fix this. I am about to post this as a tech article on engadget and other places because there are SO many people suffering from poor testing on Apple's behalf.

Visited the "genius" bar this afternoon - what a trip!! The guy said this is a Verizon issue, period. I was like you must be kidding, there are SO many people out there who got affected and not everyone uses verizon ... he actually got pretty mad and said you should be using mac hardware (router) and secure network. I even told him my second Macbook is working fine on the same Verizon network. This is their new location in the Northern VA area at Fair Oaks Mall.
I would call that guy anything but a genius, what a waste of time. This was my first and last trip to a "genius" bar.

How to change channel on 5GHz on new (2012) Airport Express when connecting to en excsiting network?

Airport Express only provides channel 100 automatically when configuring it to connect to an excisting wireless network at 5GHz. This is out of range for most routers, which typicaly provieds channels 36 through 48 for connecting 5GHz devices.Only when you configure the Airport Express to establish a new wireless network it allows you to change channels manually. This is really weird. I have severeal Airport Express units (older model) around my house for streaming music, and they work just fine on 2.4 GHz, and so does the new (2012) one, but I bought it specifically to use 5GHz in a corner of my house with interference from surrounding 2.4 GHz networks, so I am really disappointed with this product. There should and must be a way to connect it to an excisting 5GHz network, but how to get the channel right in this cnfiguration mode?

When you extend wireless you cannot switch channels.. The Express is locked to the channel used by the Extreme.. there is no choice about this.
Reboot the extreme .. wait a minute and then reboot the express.. Channels will be tested on reboot to pick the best.. there is nothing much else you can do.

Airport will not connect to my home network after trying to connect to my school's network. Need help!

Airport on my Macbook will no longer connect to my internet network at home. I was on campus using my university's network today and now Airport only wants to connect to it and will not change back to my home network. It has something to do with the 802.1X, and I don't know enough about networks to know what that does. Is there someway I can just reset my entire airport settings to where it would be like the first time I used my Macbook and configured it to my home network?

Did you Shut Down the Mac and then power it back up? Can you connect to your home network now if you click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen?
If your home network name does not appear, click Join Other Network, then click Show Networks.
Click the name of the network that you want to join and enter the password if required
Are you saying that you want to delete the connection to the school network from your Mac? If you do this, you will have to setup the connection again if you head back to the school.

Upgraded to 10.4.10 and auto connect to last wireless network does not work

just upgraded to 10.4.10 and now every time I boot I have to select my home wireless network to connect. This while I have the option automatic join selected, which worked until version 10.4.9.
Anyone else experiencing this ?

I downloaded the new Safari beta version and went (don't ask why, maybe insanity: doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result) to System Preferences->Network again. There I deleted my wireless network (as I did the last time), but now I got immediately a message about KeyChain (which I didn't got before, so I did get a different result !!). And guess what, now the auto connect does work again !
So, the upgrade to 10.4.10 messed with something that the beta upgrade did correct.

How to stop snow airport from Auto dialing

I have a snow airport that ran perfect for over two years and since I did the last software update it now automatically dials for internet connection when I wake it up from sleep. How do I fix this? Thanks.

I have had loads of problems after updating to firmware 5.6 - unable to connect to the DSL modem on the WAN, and unable to connect to the Mac OS9 machines on the network ("Connection Failed This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it.").
I eventually reverted back to firmware 5.5.1 and everything immediately worked again.

How to prevent iTunes from auto-launching at login

For some reason, after every restart or logout/login, iTunes will auto-launch at login.
I initially thought that iTunes Helper in Login Items may be the culprit. So, I removed it from the list of Login Items. But, iTunes still launches automatically after login.

Yup. I think this may have to do with .itms files. Apple has allowed web sites to open itunes with an autolaunch command. I think that the .itms files are the ones that auto launch itunes. I think what we are suffering here is a misuse of the itunes autolaunch command. Web developers seem to be able to launch itunes and try to display their products for purchase. It seems like Itunes has been turned into a 'Pop-Up' advertisement. I hope Apple takes notice and fixes it. I have been having this problem since I got this new i5 Imac in January.

Airport from wifi connection

I receive internet via wifi from my office just opposite where I live.
In house, I want to use the aiport to get internet here, BUT it seems that airport needs that I connect with an ethernet cable? Can I jsut somehwere fill in the name of the router, the password, and get going with airport and another name on it?

You will need two Apple AirPorts for this.
The first....an AirPort Express....must be configured to "join" the wireless network. Here, I am assuming that the wireless network is using WPA2 or WPA wireless security. The Express will not join the network otherwise.
Then, connect an Ethernet cable from the LAN port on the Express to the WAN "O" port on the other AirPort and configure the other AirPort to "create a wireless network"
If you decide to try this, make sure that you understand the store's return policy before you buy. In goofy setups like this, you will not know if this will work until you actually try it out.
I've been using a two AirPort setup like this for years in hotels that only provide wireless. It works 90%+ of the time.
