Preventing computer from going to sleep

Our main production software (IQue 5.5) is screwed up if the computer goes to sleep.  We put in an order for 10 mac minis running mavericks and then the new mini got announced the very next day and there is no stock left on the old machines and we were forced to try it with yosemite.  We got one system and set it up on one guinea pig, and so far the only real problem is that yosemite no longer has an option to set system sleep to "never" and it keeps sleeping at random points while the user is working and kicks him out of IQue.
Is there some way that we can get the (new dual-core i7 at 3.0GHZ) mac mini to never sleep?

For what it's worth, I've had that hpdot4d process showing up ever since I set up my HP officejet 5610 on my Mac, and I'm still running 10.4. I'm pretty sure this is an HP problem, not an Apple problem...

  • OneNote prevents my computer from going to sleep when I have a shared notebook open. Suggestions?

    Hello,
    The issue is that my computer will not go to sleep if I have OneNote opened with my shared notebook loaded.
    Background: I'm currently running Windows 8 Pro on a desktop machine with Office 2010 Home and Student installed. I log into the OS under my outlook.com internet account.  OneNote, which I always keep open, has my main
    notebook shared on my SkyDrive.
    Scenarios: The computer will go to sleep if I reboot the machine and do not open OneNote. The computer will go to sleep if I close my shared notebook, reboot the machine and open OneNote (with no notebooks open). The computer will go to sleep if I open
    OneNote with my shared notebook, close it, AND exit OneNote from the icon in the system tray.
    The scenarios I ran lead me to believe that OneNote is continuously polling my shared online notebook, thus preventing my computer from going to sleep. The is a regression from the behavior in Windows 7. Are there any configuration changes I can make to
    fix this?
    Thanks.

    Try modify the settings under:
    Control Panel --> Power Options --> Multimedia settings --> When sharing media to Allow the computer to sleep

    Hello rnash62.  I understand you'd like to automatically log into your Administrator account when waking from sleep.
    What notebook do you have?  Please identify it by the product number.  This document can show you where it is located.
    What version of Windows are you running?
    Once I have this information I should be able to provide you with instructions.

  • Browsers prevent machine from going to sleep?

    Is this normal? For some reason I remember my machine auto-sleeping while programs were running - and now the screen turns off but I can still hear the machine running. If I quit the browsers (both Firefox & Safari) it goes to sleep normally.

  • Prevent screen from going to sleep

    How to prevent mobile device (Android or iOS) to put screen to sleep?
    I'm using Flash CS6 + AIR, in publish settings under Permissions I do have these two marked: DISABLE_KEYGUARD and WAKE_LOCK. But I don't see it working, i'm testing on Samsung Galaxy S3 (latest Android OS).
    Although it says it only needs to be in XML file those two lines, don't I have to put anything in ActionScript 3.0 code inside my Flash document ?
    When I pack APK file is XML also packed there ?
    Thanks

    These functions will give you an idea of what you have to do on the AS3 side:
    import flash.desktop.NativeApplication;
    import flash.desktop.SystemIdleMode;
    stage.addEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, fl_Activate);
    stage.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, fl_Deactivate);
    private function fl_Activate(event:Event=null):void {
         NativeApplication.nativeApplication.systemIdleMode = SystemIdleMode.KEEP_AWAKE;
    private function fl_Deactivate(event:Event):void {
         NativeApplication.nativeApplication.systemIdleMode = SystemIdleMode.NORMAL;
    The XML, where you have set the wake lock permissions for Android, does end up in the APK.

  • Prevent Mac from going to sleep

    Hy guys!
    Yes, I know that there are a lot of programs, like Caffeine or Slepless ecc..
    But the program I'm looking for should avoid sleep _even under my command_
    (.. because sometimes my dad doesn't realize that my Ipod is charging, or I'm importing photos or downloading files..)
    Thank you v.m. =)

    Maybe I didn't make myself clear... If I follow your way, everytime I click on the "sleep" button, my mac goes obviously to sleep... That's exactly the thing I want to avoid... =))
    Thank you!

  • After printing 'hpdot4d' process prevents computer from sleeping

    Hi,
    I noticed that after printing a document that the process named 'hpdot4d' continually writes something as seen in fs_usage preventing the computer from going to sleep. The computer sleeps fine before printing and won't sleep after printing. If I kill the process the computer will sleep again on it's own. I am using an HP Photosmart 8250 with the Mac Pro.
    This is what shows up continuously in fs_usage after printing a document.
    21:01:45.042 select S=0 0.100020 W hpdot4d
    21:01:45.116 write F=2 B=0x65 0.000009 hpdot4d

    21:01:45.116 write F=2 B=0x65 0.000002 hpdot4d
    Anyone else have this problem? Where can I make Apple aware of this if this is a bug that can be fixed? As far as I remember this wasn't a problem in Tiger.
    Thanks.

  • How to prevent computer from sleeping when downloading Lion from the recovery partition?

    Hello,
    I just got a new MacBook Pro that came with Lion. I'm reinstalling from the recovery partition and I'm on the downloading additional components stage. It has 3 hours to go and the computer keeps going to sleep. How can I prevent this? I don't want to have to babysit the computer for 3 more hours.
    Thanks.

    Looking for an answer to this question now.  Did you find one?  I'm about an hour into a 6+ hour reinstall of Mountain Lion from the Recovery partition on my MacBook Pro.  So I can't change the sleep corners or caffenate it or do much of anything but wait.   I want to go to bed and let it install overnight, but I assume it will go to sleep, and that will kill the download.  It there any way to prevent it from sleeping now?
    Even trying to think of something I can put on the trackpad to trick it into thinking I'm touching it.
    Maybe ill put it under my dog, and her movements will keep it awake?  Thinking outside the box here.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Restore disk OS X Mountain Lion: Prevent computer from sleeping

    Please help, I need to create a backup using the disk utility on my restore disk.  However, the computer keeps going to sleep and corrupting the backup. How do I prevent my computer from sleeping while the imac is creating the backup?
    Processor  3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    I can not add anymore physical ram
    Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

    I would recommend using a proper tool for backing up, if you want to create a bootable clone use either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Either that (or even better use a clone and) or use Time Machine.

  • Computer keeps going to sleep even though it is set up not to

    I recently helped a friend set up his iMac to stream to his home stereo system so things like Pandora could be played throughout the house. The problem we are having is his computer keeps going to sleep and back to the log-in screen. In energy saver, we set the computer and display to never go to sleep. We also un-checked the box that says "put the hard disks to sleep when possible." Even after doing this, the display still goes dark and when the mouse is moved to turn the screen on it is back at the log in screen. This causes pandora to stop playback, which is not good since this is why we set up the streaming in the first place. Why is the computer still going to sleep when we are telling it to never do so?

    HI Ty,
    Couldn't hurt to check the hard disk.
    Follow these instructions to verify the hard disk for errors:
    Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
    Select your disk, and click First Aid.
    Click Verify Disk.
    If the disk needs repairs, do one of the following:
    Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
    Follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click Repair Disk. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.5 in the window and click: Restart
    If you don’t have a Mac OS X Install disc, restart your computer while holding down the Shift key. As your computer starts up, it performs a disk check similar to the one Disk Utility performs.

  • My computer is going to sleep and wont wake up by touching keyboard or mouse. I have to use the power button

    Can anybody help? My computer is going to sleep and I cant wake it(bit like a teenager) by using the mouse or keyboard. I have to use the power button. Any ideas?

    Hmm, that support link doesn't like me.
    Do you have the discs that came with the computer? If so, put Install Disc 1 into the combo drive and boot up while holding the C key. Does anything show up on the screen? Do you hear the fan running? When running from a CD or DVD, the fan usually runs at a fairly fast pace and should make some noise.
    Keep in mind that you have a 1-year hardware warranty with any new or refurbished Mac, so if something has gone wrong, you should be able to have it replaced free of charge, unless the MacBook shows some form of damage.

  • How do I keep my iPhone or ipad from going to sleep while using airplay to my Apple TV ?, How do I keep my iPhone or ipad from going to sleep while using airplay to my Apple TV ?

    With airplay on, how to keep ipad from going to sleep? Same with my iPhone, with airplay steaming to my Apple TV, the phone or ipad will go to sleep. Settings?
    Advice welcome.
    Thank you for your time, Eric

    Yes, that is happening because of the app. Not all apps behave this way. For example, if you use the youTube app with AirPlay the screen will turn off but AirPlay continues. If you use the Netflix app the screen will not turn off and, of course, AirPlay continues.
    The best course with the NCAA app would appear to be to supply power to the iPad and set Autolock to never. Turn the iPad screen intensity down.

  • How to stop the macbook from going to sleep

    How do you stop my macbook from going to sleep when you close the screen? Like when you want to just move it around but do not want it to sign off or anything. Thanks guys

    Well I just spent the past hour restoring my system after installing ismonia. I shut the lid and then reopened it. All was great, then the laptop wouldn't shut down. I tried to fix the disk with Disk Utility but it shut down on its own. It wouldn't startup.
    If you try it make sure you have a recent backup.

  • How do i keep my ipad from going to sleep during presentations

    I'm using Evernote for notes during a presentation. How do I keep the iPad from going to sleep so I can read my notes?

    Bey you have have an MS Exchange account on the iPad (through your work) and they are limiting the options you have (disabling 1, 3, 4 & Never).
    Try this...
    Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select the Exchange account then set it Off.
    Go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock and you should see all options.
    Set it to what you want.
    Then turn on the Exchange account.
    The Auto-Lock settings should stay.
    However, if you go back and view the Auto-Lock settings, it will change back toonly  2 and 5.
