Preventing the Microsoft Antimalware Service to start automatically

HI
I
installed Microsoft Security Essentials
on
Windows
7 Ultimate
64-bit.
How
do I turn it off
properly
and
to prevent that
this
program
runs every
time
Windows 7 starts up?
THANKS

Microsoft Security Essentials should be able to start at start-up automatically to keep your computer protected in real time.
Disabling Microsoft Security Essentials will risk the security of the computer .
However, if you want to disable MSE from starting up follow the steps:
Click Start ->  in Search programs and files type
Services.msc and hit the Enter key ->
In the Service window scroll down to the service Microsoft Antimalware Service and set the
Startup Type to Manual or Disable . -> Click Apply and close open windows then
restart the computer.
To disable real-time protection only :
Open MSE -> click Settings and under
real-time protection -> uncheck the option Turn ON real-time protection

I
have
tried to
disable the Microsoft Antimalware Service service
but
the MSE
starts
disabled
during the startup of
Windows 7.
While
I wish that
MSE
does not
run at all
during
the startup of
Windows 7.
So,
how
do I do this?

  • Temporarily stopping the SCEP Microsoft Antimalware Service

I know that Microsoft has made the MsMpSvc service tamper proof as per this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mspfe/archive/2013/02/19/anti-tampering-for-the-antimalware-service-in-system-center-endpoint-protection-2012-sp1.aspx
Then I read this forum post here about using PSExec to temporarily disable it:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/forefront/en-US/f4347d13-5c9a-4395-b070-9aa53d613f68/is-there-a-way-to-restart-the-microsoft-antimalware-service?forum=FCSNext
But, I want to know if there is ANYWAY possible to automate this process using a script, PowerShell preferably?
    Thanks

Because I am an evil scientist wanting to take over the world.
    LOL
Well my manager asked me to look into this because there are steps in troubleshooting certain issues with some applications used in our environment and one of those steps is to temporarily disable the AV\Antimalware service.
I know Symantec Endpoint Protection offered something like this, but there is nothing I can find for SCEP.
This may be a deal breaker here to use SCEP if I can't find a way to do this and we may have to use SEP rather than SCEP, but this is not what we want.
Also, it's not always easy to be privy to which exclusions to create for certain software products, so having the ability of temporarily stop it to see if it is the culprit regarding issues is much more convenient.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services not starting automatically

    Hi,
I have Reporting Services configured on my SharePoint 2010 Foundation server and the service is set to start automatically under a domain account. However, the service does not in fact start automatically and requires me to manually start it otherwise when
I try to use SharePoint to read some Reports, it doesn't work. Once I start the service, it works.
Is this normal behaviour? The service will remain started until the server is restarted (Windows Updates for example). I would like the service to start automatically when needed i.e. requesting to read a Report on SharePoint site.
    Many thanks

Service should start automatic then, are you using some third party firewall that could block service?
And if you are using domain account for service, make sure it has log on as a service rights on local machine.
What is your event viewer saying?
In our domain environment we had similar problem with SQL and SSRS service, when I changed form of account for starting service from
domain\account to account@domain, problem was solved. I still don't really know how this helped.

  • Cluster and ASM services doesnt start automatically

    Hi,
I have configured a 2 node 10g RAC environment (rac, rac2) in RHEL 4 through vmware.
However the cluster services and ASM services do not come up automatically after server reboot. I have to manually bring it up using ./srvctl command.
    [root@rac2 bin]# ./crs_stat -t
    Name          Type     Target     State     Host
    ora....SM1.asm     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac
    ora....AC.lsnr     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac
    ora.rac.gsd     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac
    ora.rac.ons     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac

    ora.rac2.ons     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac2
    ora.rac2.vip     application     ONLINE     ONLINE     rac2
Could someone please guide me as to how these services can be brought up automatically upon every reboot?

Normally all services will start automatically, I am not sure how you installed and configured your RAC.
Here i am giving all options.
    Option1:-
    Re: CRS auto-start
    Option2:-
    See the below links.

    http://www.dannorris.com/2009/03/12/start-database-services-automatically-after-instance-startup/
    Option3:-
if you simply want to start the service upon server reboot, put srvctl
command in rc.local script under /etc directory.
    Hope this solves your issue.

the autostart property provides information to the DefaultCacheServer.startServices() method and to methods it calls. That method will start the service if it is marked to be autostarted. The DefaultCacheServer class (the standalone cache server node script starts this application) is the only class which out-of-the-box calls that method (or possibly there are a few other ones like MBeanConnector).
But if you use your own main class then it is not automatically called, it is your responsibility to call that method (or DefaultCacheServer.start()) if you want the services to autostart. Read the javadoc of the DefaultCacheServer class for more info on methods in that class and variations between them (e.g. monitoring thread, which configurable cache factory is used, etc).

  • The Order of services to start the Essbase?

    Hi Guyz,
Can any one please let me know the order of services to start EAS?
I'm not using Essbase studio. In 11.x Can I use EAS without essbase studio??
Please let me know the same for planning also.
    Thanks

    Hey Mate,
It is all in the documentation. You don't need to start Essbase Studio. Google 'epm documentation'
On another note its probably best if you specify the version in more detail because there is some significant changes between 11.1.1.x and 11.1.2.x

  • Listener service not start automatically after reboot in Win2K server Clust

    Hi all,
I set up a two node Server Cluster with Microsoft Windows 2000 server cluster service. Hardware are two HP DL380 servers and HP MSA500 (the shared storage). The cluster's IP address is 10.1.241.65. When I shut down both servers and restart the primary server, the listener server service will not start automatically. The listener log is:
    Started with pid=1108
    Error listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.1.241.65)(PORT=1521)))
TNS-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00515: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
32-bit Windows Error: 49: Unknown error
The service is set up automatically start. I suspect the cluster virtual IP is not available immediately after reboot. So I tried setting the Recovery after first failure and second failure to 3 minitues each, and setting up Dependencies of the listener on the cluster service in the Win2K Service panel. Neither worked.
The service can be manually start.
    Any suggestion?
    Frank.

The command to start automatically the listener is :
    lsnrctl start
check the parameters in : <ORACLE_HOME>/network/admin/listener.ora
check the IP address or host name

  • Critical Services Not Starting Automatically & Access to Server occasionally dropping out

For the last few months we have been trying to resolve an issue where access to files on the server (SBS2011 - running domain services, exchange, etc) get so slow or just unresponsive. Logging onto the server is also not possible till it starts responding
    again.
We also found that when the server starts, the Netlogon services does not start automatically event though it is set to auto start. There are a number of other services mainly exchange services that do not start as well but it seems this may be due to the
    net service not starting.
We have re-installed the OS but this does not seem to have fixed the issue. The environment is a mix of the SBS2011 server, two Windows Server 2003 boxes - one running Terminal Services. The other was being used for SAP but no longer in use. The clients
are mainly XP with a few Windows 7 machines. We are in the process of planning the replacement of the XP machines.

You re-installed SBS2011? - that seems rather drastic.  Did you maintain your domain or just set it all up again?
This sounds like a DNS issue but have a look at the event viewer and google/post the Event ID and Source.  Given those two you can start to track down the cause and possible fixes at www.eventid.net.  Just be aware that SBS2011 has a lot of
    "normal" event errors, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2483007
You should also run the SBS best practice analyzer and maybe run the "Fix my network" wizard in the SBS console.  Also make sure SBS is the DHCP server for the network.

  • Stop microsoft antimalware service windows 7

hello, just wanna clear up some confusion about this issue.
its not an ethical debate, there should be none.
we have rights, to all applications on our computers, to start them or stop them, that is all.
    how to
    1. load safe mode by typing "msconfig" in the start run box
    2. check safe boot, hit ok, then restart your computer
    3. open the task manager, by right clicking on the task bar, find msmpeng.exe and end the task until it shuts down
    4. goto C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client  and find "msmpeng.exe" and rename it to "msmpeng1.exe"
    5. go back to msconfig, uncheck safe boot, hit ok, then restart, and enjoy not having the antimalware service running.
    ways that dont work
if you write a batch file to stop the service, it doesnt work, or didnt work for me
also, if you disable realtime protection, the service does not shut down, the memory usage simply goes from, 60K, down to 10K
knowing all of this information may help you all. restarting the service, should be very simple, by reversing this process.

    Hi,
Which service you want to disable? It would be better to provide the service name information with your question.
In my opinion, rename the process name is won't influence to the service. because even you rename the program name, it still could keep running successfully. Actually, Windows application information was registed into Registry during installation, also contains
its execute path. Just change the name won't corrupt the program.

  • How do I prevent "The user profile service service failed the log on" error messages?

I work for an organization with approximately 60 staff members across ~80 Windows 7 Professional PCs. Users log in with Active Directory accounts.
Approximately once per month, a random user will get an error message while attempting to log into their machine that says "The user profile service service failed the log on."  The solution to resolve this issue is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215?ppud=4&wa=wsignin1.0.
The problem is that I want to PREVENT this issue from happening, as it is incredibly inconvenient for the user. I had one staff member board a 5-hour plane trip expecting to do work, and once she got in the air she logged in and
received the error message and was unable to use her computer for the trip. I've had others locked out of their computer with deadlines to get things done, while I am at home off the clock. Editing the registry is not an easy fix, and so it's not something
I can just post instructions for in a knowledgebase article.
Does anyone know how to prevent this issue from occurring? I believe that it has something to do with a network-based startup script, or a service trying to connect to our file server, or the computer trying to connect to our ad server. All of these
are blocked by firewalls (unless the user is off-site), and I suspect that the services may be timing out, causing the user profile service service failed the logon error message, but I can't seem to eliminate it, after nearly a year of trying.
90% of the time this problem occurs when the user is off-site, but it has happened while the user is in the office too. Once the user gets this error message, the only way to resolve the problem is to log into their computer as a localadministrator account
and perform the method #1 fix in the knowledgebase article.
    Thanks

Have you checked the logged files in event viewer around the time when problem occurred?
Is there any suspicious events like error or warning related to this issue.

  • Approval Workflow does not update the Content Approval status if started automatically

    Hi,
I’m using a simple Approval Workflow associated with
Content Approval on site pages. It works fine when I set it to be started manually (by using
Allow this workflow to be manually started by an authenticated user with Edit Item permissions
option) and on the completion of the workflow the
Content Approval status is updated accordingly. But when I set it to be started automatically (by using
Start this workflow when a new item is created
/ Start this workflow when an item is changed
options), it does not updates the Content Approval status. Note that I’ve set the
Update the approval status after the workflow is completed (use this workflow to control content approval)
    option to true.
    Regards

    Hello,
It is recommended to select "Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version of an item" when you want to use the workflow to manage content approval for
    a library.
According to the Notes for “Enable Content Approval” option in
    this reference:
If you are using this Approval workflow to manage content approval (moderation) for a library, and you selected the Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version
of an item check box on the Add a Workflow page..
If you did not select the Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version of an item check box on the Add a Workflow page because you do not want this workflow to
be the default content approval workflow for a library, you can select the Update the approval status (use this workflow to control content approval) check box to make this workflow a secondary content approval workflow that specific users can
    start manually.
That means having an approval workflow start automatically when a document is changed or created is not a good practice when you want to use the workflow to manage
content approval for a library. You should either select "Start this workflow to approve publishing a major version of an item" or give users the option to start the workflow manually at the time they want to submit for an approval.
    Thanks & Regards.

  • How to prevent "Shell Hardware Detection Service" from stopping automatically?

    Long version:
I have an APC SmartUPS 750 (old one, w/o NIC) connected to my Win Server 2012 box via USB cable. My Server 2012 acts as a UPS web interface server (PowerChute software) that I can monitor via network.
Now, since Shell Hardware Detection Service stops automatically in Server 2012, the PowerChute software loses connectivity via USB to the UPS and I have to re-plug the USB cable every time for UPS to get detected.
    Short version:
Anyway I can keep the Shell Hardware Detection Service to run even there is no one logged in?

Excerpt below taken from the following url:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831394.aspx
You can configure the Services row to display alerts when services are found in a role or server group that match startup types, service status, service names, and servers that you specify in the
    Services Detail View dialog box.
After a server has been added to the Server Manager server pool, service alerts about the Shell Hardware Detection service can be displayed if there are no users logged on to the managed server. This occurs because the Shell Hardware Detection service runs
only when users are logged on to the managed server, or connected to a Remote Desktop session on the managed server. To avoid seeing Shell Hardware Detection service alerts for this case, click
Services in the thumbnails for server groups, including the
All Servers group. In the Services Detail View dialog box, on the
Services drop-down list, clear the check box for Shell Hardware Detection, and then click
    OK.
