Preview 5.01 won't display JPEG's after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Upon upgrade of Snow Leopard 10.6 I cannot open a jpeg on Preview that has been submitted by someone to me. It shows up in the side column but not on the main page. how do I get to see the image again? thanks!

There are several possible problems, one of which can be solved to by updating to 10.6.2. You can also try removing these two files:
/Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/Preview/PDFIndex4.sk
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist
Then restart and relaunch Preview. If it still isn't fixed, and you are updated to 10.6.2, then you should download the COMBO updater and run it. There is a link to download it here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959
You can run it even if you have already updated.

  • Aperture 2.1.4 - No preview or thumbnails after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I had upgraded to Aperture 2.1.4 before upgrading to Snow Leopard and everything worked fine. But since I installed SL, whenever I make a new version, I get no preview (just a big gray box) and no thumbnail (just a dotted lined box). So this makes Aperture absolutely useless to me. Apple says my service period has expired and I need to pay $199 to get any tech support to remedy this. I think that's ridiculous because I think this is a problem caused by SL.
Before I pay this stupid fee, does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but nothings changed.
In the meantime, I've switched everything over to Lightroom. So Apple better get this resolved or its losing a good customer to Lightroom!
    Thanks... David

    Hey Tony...
    Thanks for the response.
I am using a Canon 5D Mark II and import RAW files. But I don't think it's a camera specific issue. Even is I import a plain old jpeg and make a new version of it, all I get is a outlined box for a thumbnail and a big gray box for a preview. And the little spinning "loading" wheel goes on forever.
I have gone to that support page and have done everything on it without success. I'm out of ideas.

  • Preview Pane in Safari after upgrading to Snow Leopard

Safari 4.0.3 no longer shows attachments previews. This is only since upgrading to Snow Leopard. So, for example, if I am trying to attach a jpg, unless I know the specific name I can't preview it to make sure it is the correct one. The pane will not open. I am not sure what to do about this! Very frustrating. I just switched from Firefox bc it was too slow and it was crashing constantly. Is Apple going to fix the preview pane bug, or is it something I am doing wrong?

We found a workaround that dealt with the issue quite well with our workflow. Downgrading our systems from OS X 10.6.7 to 10.6.6 was not a realistic option. Your milage may vary if you have hundreds or thousands of OpenType fonts or troublesome Type 1 Postcript fonts or a very large number of OS X 10.6.7 workstations to manage.
We found that if we converted the OpenType fonts to TrueType fonts, then the problem went away. This may also work if you convert Type 1 Postscript fonts to TrueType. I posted some suggestions for how to do that in the "main" thread on the problem here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13323072

  • HT201364 Mavericks won't download even after upgrading to Snow Leopard.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard on a Mac OS 10.6.8 and still Mavericks won't download.

Memory -  menu About This Mac will show you the memory.
Space remaining - make your hard drive visible in Finder's sidebar using Finder/Preferences/General if it is not already there and then select it. Do a Get Info (command - I) and the available space will be shown.
What happens when you click download in the App Store? If you look at the App Store Purchases tab does it show there?

  • IWeb won't display different Domains after upgrading to Lion?

After upgrading my MacBook Pro to Lion 10.7.2 my iWeb 3.0.4 program won't open different Domain files.  Even though I have several different Domain files on the hard drive, no matter which one I try to open it always shows up as the last Domain opened by iWeb.  If I remove the last opened Domain file from the hard drive and try to open one of the remaining files everything is OK, except if I again try to open a different Domain it also shows up as the last opened file.

Your unique question is often discussed.
Search this forum for Lion. You'll find this answer :
where do I find "domain" in Lion?
Or look to the right where it says : More Like This.

  • 3rd Gen Ipod won't sync with Itunes since upgrade to Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard and since then my trusty 3rd Gen Ipod will not sync with iTunes (9.0.3). It mounts in Finder, but does not appear in iTunes. The iPod will still charge, but it constantly displays the "Do Not Disconnect" message until manually ejected.
    Any help gratefully received.

    Thank you kindly

  • After upgrade to snow leopard, my printer won't print

I recently upgraded my operating software to snow leopard, but now my wireless printer won't print any jobs coming from my Mac.  The printer icon is still in the dock, but every time I try to print something I get an error message, and it won't print.  When I go to my system preferences, it is still listed there.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • Canon HF20 won't mount after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my Canon HF20 will no longer connect via USB. This is a basically a USB hard drive as far as the OS is concerned, and I've typically mounted the camera and copied my AVCHD files to an external drive for editing. No special drivers or software was required for this on Leopard. Has anyone else seen this, had it work, etc...?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Is your camera still working, and did you do anything special to get it to work? My HF200 doesn't connect properly since I upgraded.

  • Encrypted .dmg won't mount after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Just upgraded to Snow Leopard and having trouble mounting an encrypted disk image that I use for my confidential files. I have tried mounting using both DiskImageMounter.app and the Disk Utility but both give error 60008, unable to attach.
Anyone else having similar problems or have suggestions for alternative ways of mounting?
    Best,
    Jon.

My encrypted disk image with confidential files was created under Leopard using Disk Utility. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and when I try to mount the image, the password box comes up (as before the upgrade). But, I enter my password, and the disk image does not mount, it just keeps asking for the password again. I also have the latest MacBook Air and I also have an encrypted disk image there too with the same problem when I try to mount it. In addition, I have a LaCie 1TB External Harddrive that contains an encrypted disk image. When I try to mount this disk image, which normally appears on the desk top, I get the same repeating password box. Entering the password does nothing--other than causing the password box to reappear. All three encrypted disk images worked fine without any issues before the upgrade. So, based on the number of views that this post has had, this appears to be an issue that needs a resolution. Any suggestions or others with similar problems?

  • Apache won't work after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Today I have upgraded to Snow Leopard. Previously I have used 10.5.6 (Leopard). In Safari I get the following message: "Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again." Does anybody know how to fix this issue? Thank you.

    HI,
Do you have web sharing turned on?
    System Preferences/Sharing.
Try posting in the Mac OS X Technology Forum also.
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=735&start=0
Also, did you repair permissions after the upgrade? If not..
Control or right click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop. Click "Get Info". Under the General tab you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is at least 10% available disk space, 15% is better.

  • Bento won't open after upgrading to Snow Leopard?

Bento will not open since installing / upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6 -- just simply tries to start up and quits immediately. Any suggestions other than trashing the existing application and restoring / reinstalling from my original software discs that came with my new Mac Book Pro laptop? It was working just fine prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday.

Download the updated version of Bento to use the application with Snow Leopard. This should fix the problem!

  • After upgrade to snow leopard my HP scanner won't initialize

My HP OfficeJet ProL7590 still prints, however, I get an error message when I try to scan that reads:
    ERROR
Sorry, scanner could not be initialized (Scanner not found).
I get this using Adobe to scan and the HP Device Manager.
The printer is shown as available and nothing else has changed just the upgrade to Snow Leopard.
    Any ideas?

    Yes THANK YOU!!!!
I found the driver and installed it without any problem and now everything works differently but it works!  Nothing like new software to figure out.  New software is one reason I postponed upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  My current dumb phone is going to have to be replaced soon and I guess I'll get an iPhone.  Apple told me I have to upgrade or I can't sync my phone to my contacts unless I upgrade!
    THANKS Again

  • Preview crashes after save in Snow Leopard

    After upgrading to Snow Leopard:
Every time I save a file from Preview, the application crashes 0-3 seconds later. The file save is completed successfully.
On another note, Pages and Word crash frequently.
I have run "check & repair permissions" - the problems persist.
    Anyone any thoughts?
    Thanks

I have this problem... has anyone found resolution?
It seems like almost all of my applications crash when opening/saving files (including if I cancel the open/save dialog box). Frustrating? You have no idea... unless you have the same issue.
This weekend I reformatted my hard drive, reinstalled Leopard from the MacBook Pro installer disk which came with my laptop, reinstalled the Snow Leopard update, and installed any available updates via Software Update. I used the Migration Assistant to reimport my default account/files from a backup, and for the first time in months... my computer seemed ok.
I've also NOT re-installed any of the add-ons I regularly use (Growl/Textexpander/Little Snitch/MacFuse/Zooom2/Glims), in hopes of having a more stable system... but alas, it seems as though it hasn't helped. After re-installing FileMaker 9 Advanced this morning... I found that it will regularly crash upon accessing an open/save dialog box.
Anyone have any further suggestions? I suppose at this point I have two options: 1) Reinstall Leopard and DO NOT RUN SNOW LEOPARD. 2) Buy a new MacBook Pro.
    TIA.
