Preview 7.0 differences?

I'm quiet unhappy with a few changes Mavericks has done to some of my apps (Pages for instance) and now I'm noticing what has happened with Preview. Basically I can not see the hand tool anymore nor a sidebar. So for instance, if I have PDF open on Preview and I'm zoomed in, how do I pan inside the document? For now the only way around it is to click on the  "selection" sq and move around like that... but it is a bit awkward. Any other ideas?
What other differences have you found on Preview?

The Sidebar is here:
As for the Hand Tool, I just slide two fingers around on my Trackpad and the document "pans" around.

  • Open all PDF using Preview instead of Adobe Reader

I recently install Adobe Reader and now all files are opening with Adobe Reader instead of Preview. I want to change the default to Preview for all PDF files. I did choose open with option key down... so that I can select open with... and then chose the option "always open with...". However this only changes the default application for the single file I chose and not to ALL PDF files. When I try to open any random PDF file, it defaults to Adobe Reader, even AFTER I selected "always open with... Preview" on a difference file. Any ideas on how I can make sure the Preview opens for ALL PDF files as default?
    Thanks,

Have you made the change in the get info window? Control click on a PDF and choose get info. Scroll down to change all and click on that:

  • Preview and design mode issues

I would like to report a couple of glitches in Muse.
    Problem #1:
I had a pair of photos that I added some text with in a separate text box.  I had problems with alignment, so I put the photos into a  slideshow with the text:
I hit enter to space everything out properly, and a portion of the text moves above where I want it, and overlaps existing text, and the column shrinks:
If I hit enter again, then delete, the text moves back to where I want it to go.
    Problem #2:
On occasion, when I preview a page I am designing, it looks jumbled with text in places I never put it and opacity is reduced, like it's under layers.  I deleted all text on the page and re-previewed with no difference in how it appeared, text still jumbled and out of place with text I just deleted.  I revert to last saved and luckily that fixes it, but it sets me back a few steps.  I didn't save any screen shots from that fiasco, but I did with the next one that occurred:
in Design mode I added the red links on the left of the Home page like this:
Preview showed a mess with the text I have on the master page like this, no links, and nav tabs placed above everything:
I have sent this to Adobe for a response with my export file and screen shots and haven't heard anything back yet.
    Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Chad

    I have updated Muse to
    Realease version
    V2.2, build 6, CL 770942
    AIR Runtime: 3.4.0.2540
I made some changes to the "Animal Facts" page,
Saved it, Exported it, then uploaded it to my server.
What is shown in "Plan mode" is consistent with what I have designed, but I can't get it
    to publish that way:
Now the changes that I made aren't showing up in the Firefox preview when exported, the Firefox view once published, or the preview within Muse.
Further the screen that shows up I can't find on the "Design mode" to change or delete it:

  • Opinions on exporting quality?

I'd be interested in what other photographers have to think about the quality of Aperture's export. I must say, I compared it to Adobe's Ligthroom (beta 3) and ACR...and it came in third.
I found it (Aperture's exported image) to be very heavy in the shadow areas and overly contrasty (and I find myself usually punching contrast in post). Even though the image looked beautiful in the application, it rendered out much darker in the shadows than did the Adobe apps. In both Abode products, the exported/opened image looked nearly identical to the image when viewed within the application.
No so with Aperture, which was kinda disheartening. I love what Aperture is becoming...but it is still version 1 and, I guess, it is still becoming.

If we provide you with a location to upload, can you send us an example of what you're seeing? What you're describing is not standard Aperture behavior.
Absolutely. I would love to send you a few screen captures that show the unprocessed image in Aperture, and the resulting exported image. I would also send you the same senario as seen through Adobe's Lightroom Beta 3.
But I do think the problem is on my end. Here is some additional (long) detail:
I have three Macs total: 2 G4 Quicksilvers: one has an Apple 20" display, the other has a Lacie 22" crt display (both run Photoshop). My other Mac is a new Mac Pro Dual 2.66 with a 23" cinema display. All are calibrated with the same device: an x-rite calibrator and ColorEyes display software.
Aperture runs on my Mac Pro. I do NOT have Photoshop installed on this machine, so I am viewing my Aperture exports in the Preview application. So, I guess it could be that the problem is with Preview and not Aperture.
I say this because here is what I discovered during today's work. This morning I was processing the RAW images from a shoot on Wednesday in Aperture. When I exported, I opened them in Preview and noticed this previously described discrepency. (I had processed other images from other shoots a few days earlier and noticed these same issues in the deep shadow).
I then processed the images from Wednesday's shoot in Lightroom, looked at them in Preview, no apparent difference. That's when I sent my email describing my concern this morning.
However when I got to my other office I opened the exported tiffs in Photoshop on my G4 with the 20" Apple display. Lo and behold the Aperture export looked great. No shadow issues at all. In fact, it looked better than the Lightroom export. So, I actually used that one for the publication I am working on.
BUT...that doesn't explain to me why I am seeing the difference on my monitor attached to my Mac Pro. Can it be a monitor calibration issue if it looks one way IN the application, and darker in another application when viewed side by side on the same monitor? Or can it be that there a color management issue with Preview?
I haven't installed Photoshop on my Mac Pro yet, but I think I will.
I love the interface with Aperture by the way. I do wish it had some lens correction features (vignetting, etc.). But all in all it is going to be a killer application.
Thanks for your interest in helping me with this. I'd still send you what I'm seeing if you'd like.

  • 'Fuzzy' desktop icons: is there a way to change them en masse?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but after searching the discussions I couldn't find a thing similar to this (non-critical but irritating) issue.
I have had a Mac for some time, since Classic OS days. I've noticed that some of the older files I have still have what can best be described as old-style icons.
I thought the best way to explain what I meant was to include a screen shot below. As you can see, the desktop icon for Millais' Ophelia is pixellated beyond recognition. Changing the files (via "Show View Options") to "Show Icon Preview" makes no difference. Looking at the file via Get Info shows that the file itself is AOK, that the Preview looks fine.
This is not limited to GIFs... JPGs, PSDs, TIFs are all similarly affected.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a quick and dirty way to strip or scrub files of their existing desktop icons and allow it to be rebuilt with the lovely OS X desktop icon... short of opening each file, saving it, and closing it again (which is a problem for JPGs and the inherent lossy-ness).
    Thank you in advance!
    sandra

The problem is that the old files already have a custom icon, albeit a very old very small custom icon (they are 32x32 pixels, versus the "normal" 128x128 icons, or the now possible 512x512). When a custom icon is present, that is what Finder will display. If NO custom icon is present Finder will, if told to do so in View options, draw a lovely icon. Indeed, in CoverFlow view it will draw 512 icons.
One way to achieve this happy state is to do GetInfo on a file, select the wee little icon at the top (a nearly invisible blue halo will surround it), and then do Cut from the Edit menu or with Command-x. This will remove the old custom icon without changing the file in any other way, leaving your jpegs in exactly the same state they were in.
Doing this for a whole buncha files is obviously tedious. I suspect you get an Applescript or Automator action which would batch process a folder, but I'm not much of a scripter. People who are scripters are often very helpful, posting a cry for help in either forum might get you something to do the job:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=724 The Applescripters are here
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1261 The Leopard Automators are here
There is a little program called CocoThumbX you can download, then drop files in batches and check the box to Remove Thumbnail, and it will do so. It can also create new custom thumbnails, at 128x128 pixels.

  • PS CS5 stalls when opening file with type layers

Macbook Pro / 10.6.7 / 4GB RAM / 2GHz i7 / CS5 12.0.4.x64. No extra plugins or anything. New system, clean install from last week.
When I open a file (any size/color/dimensions) that has type layers PS with hang for about 25 seconds, then come back just fine. If I clear the font cache (I use FontExplorer X 3) the problem will go away for a brief time (minutes?), then come back. Close and reopen a file, same hang. Close PS, reopen PS, reopen file, same hang.
Files with no font layers are not affected — no hang, no delay, snappy... unless a file with type layers is already open, then there is the same delay.
If a file with type layers is open in PS and hung on open, and I open/double-click it again from the finder I get another hang.
Turing off font preview makes no difference, turning off OpenGL makes no difference.
But, turning a font on or off in FontExporer does clear the problem for a while.
    Any thoughts?

It looks like the plug in was the culprit. I have it turned off and haven't had the problem in a while (though I haven't used PS in a bit on text-heavy projects either).
    Thanks for the help.

  • Media Encoder slower with Yosemite

    Hi Everyone
I am currently running a new Mac Pro. Under Mavericks it has been an excellent machine with Adobe CC, recently though I have gone to Yosemite. Adobe Media Encoder is certainly a bit slower. I know this as an 8min long training video project I have edited in Premiere which has a fair bit going on in the sequence, took 5:58  to export in Media Encoder when I ran Mavericks. I could replicate this result on more than 1 Mac Pro of the same specs, same Mavericks etc by just moving the thunderbolt hard drive the project is on. In Yosemite, the same sequence, same Premiere file now takes 6:20. For longer exports, that is a 5.5% time increase in time I'd rather not have, is there anything I can do to speed up Encoder under Yosemite? It seems that with a few recent upgrades to Encoder the program has slowed down a bit when using the OpenCL rendering. Turning off preview makes no difference.
On a different note, I have noted the project sometimes takes a little longer/shorter to export. All things being equal, is it normal to export sometimes the same export to take a few seconds longer or shorter just randomly? Eg sometimes 6:15 or 6:25?
    Thank you all in advance.

Uninstalling Media Encoder CS6 shouldn't cause any problem to any CC apps, including Media Encoder CC.
There is no stand-alone uninstaller for Media Encoder CS6.  In order to uninstall it, you need to uninstall all CS6 apps on which Media Encoder CS6 is depending.  Those CS6 apps includes, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Flash, Prelude, SpeedGrade, and InDesign.  Media Encoder CS6 is installed as a part of those apps.  If you have any of those CS6 apps, please uninstall all of them.  This also uninstalls Media Encoder CS6.

  • CS5 Windows import problems (ppj, avi)

I have the CS5 Master Collection installed on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit laptop. I have some old Premiere 6.5 projects that I wanted to open/import.
When I first tried this, I could open the ppj files and make prproj files from them, either by double-clicking on the ppj file name or by importing the ppj in to a new prproj, but the video files within the ppj didn't import properly. Premiere Pro CS5 said, "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file's type (audio and video)." These video files are paired avi and wav files captured from mini-DV tape using Premiere 6.5 under Windows XP Pro. A sample check of one of my avi files with GSpot includes these results:
The codec section says (among other stuff)
         codec: dvsd
         Name: DVC/DV Video
         Status: Codec(s) are Installed
    The container section says
         File length correct
         DV Type 2 AVI
         OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
         DV Audio/Video: 748 MB (97.63%)
         AVI Overhead: 18.1 MB (2.37%)
When I tried more recently, Premiere CS5 does not include ppj under "All Supported Media" in the import dialogue box. I can open Bridge from Premiere and browse to a ppj file, but when I double-click the file name, I get the error message, "File format not supported." If I try to open the ppj directly rather than import it, instead of trying to run a conversion as it did initially, Premiere CS5 gives me the welcome to Adobe Premiere Pro popup without actually doing anything w/ the ppj. I'm not sure whether a Premiere update ran between the first and more recent attempts to import ppj files, but I now have version 5.0.3.
Does anyone have suggestions for how to make this work?
    Thanks.

I had the same problem with an old ppj project.
The option to import was available pbut CS5 would crash when import was invoked.
There was an error message about video filters.
Adobe help line, over the course of an hour, tried to make me believe that this was related to the 64 bit vs 32 bit issues.
Then I pointed out to them that the application was able to read the .avi file and play it if I imported it by itself without trying to import the whole project.
I also mentioned that deleting the previews made no difference.
At the end of the hour, they agreed to look at the project file. This was two weeks ago and this is the last time that I heard from them. When I ftp'ed the file to them they confirmed the following which I also told them; this is a separate problem from the import problem, but it is related to the support of this software. The automatic updates to the program cause Adobe .ppj import options to disappear from the import menu file type list. Again, they confirmed this and I had to unistall the whole package, reinstall Adobe, and not accept any updates.
I have yet to hear from Adobe on this. I suspect this is such a rare need that they feel they don't need to support it, but this being the case I think the doofs ought to take the feature out of the advertising list, or provide a stand alone utility to translate the text .ppj into a .prpj compatible project. It's not very difficult.
The most disturbing thing is that they obviously fail to do a thorough regression test prior to publishing updates. Basic features that are advertised are failing.
    THE SOLUTION (for my case)
Of course, the reason I wanted to import the project was because there was aOne of the key reasons to stay with Premiere is that I am used to it and want compatibility, as the others in this post also would like.
Besides Adobe being of no help at all, I have found a workaround. As you all know the ppj file is a text file with headers in [ ] brackets. This file contained some headers which did not appear in .prpj created projects and this was due to some special effects add-ins which were bundled with the video card I installed in the old system.
By removing the special effects using the old version of Premiere installed on a 32 bit system, I was able to import all the clips with the NLE cuts as I intended, and continue from there in CS5.
I hope this is a viable workaround for some.
I do not know if Adobe plans to continue to support the import feature, but they ought to update their docs. It does not work.

  • I LIKE TO HAVE BACK MY OLD IPHOTO PROGRAM

NEW IPHOTO PROGRAM OSX 10.10.3  IS NOT WORKING LIKE THE OLD ONE FOR EXAMPLE NOT POSSIBLE TO PLACE TEXT ON A PICTURE
PLEASE SUPPORT ME WITH THIS NEW PHOTO PROGRAM

Don't post in all caps.  It's considered shouting in forums and is rude.  Also more difficult to read.
What version of iPhoto do you current have on your Mac?  It' will be located in the Applications folder.  Select it and type Coimmand + i to bring up its Info window.  There you can see what version it is.
We never could place text on a photo with iPhoto.  We needed a 3rd party image editor or Preview to add the text.  You can still use a 3rd party editor or Preview but the difference is that you have to export the photo out of Photos to do the editing and then import the new file back into Photos if it is needed there.

  • Difference in LOCL print preview for same script in two different systems

    Hi All,
When I am testing a dunning letter ( Custom sapscript) in my testing system the LOCL print preview is correct...When I am testing  it in my development system by taking print preview from LOCL it is not printing a uline and some line item headers...
There is one text element for printing line item header.
    U1....ULINE(73)
    T0    &vline& ....&T_MATNR&..
    T3    &vline&
    UL   &ULINE(73)
IN Development sytame in print preview every thing is perfect except the above portion the first uline and vline are not getting printed and as a result next vline and uline are dispalyed a bit above .. I am unable to understand why one uline is not printed but the othe one is printed as we are using HELVE12 in both cases and above all  why in test system this problem is not occuring..
I checked and am 100% sure there is no difference between the layout versions in the two sapscripts...Also checked most of the SPAD configs in two systems and found them same..
Can you give me any idead about the reason for the diffrence in print preview as in both cases it will consider the printer installed on the local desktop....
Just we use citrix metaframe to log in SAP but that should not be the reason as thne problem would be in both system..
    Please help me out...
    Thanks and Regards
    Sweta

    Hi ,
I already mentioned that I am selcting LOCL ( Device type Sapwin)  in both cases so in both cases it is considering the printer installed on the local system...
Can anyone tell me specific spad config or anything else which I need to compare in both systems..

  • Differences between Preview and Acrobat Pdf for some files

    Good morning,
My name is Roberto and I am from Venice (Italy).
I'm a new Mac user (I need to use windows for my work because the softwares are only made for win).
The problem (I think it is a problem of SL):
I upgraded my MBP17 and iMac24 to SL.
Last week I noticed that the file linked below showed a different color on the table background.
The original background is orange (if you open the file with acrobat reader) while it is grey when you use Preview.
Go to page 100 to see the differences.
    https://wwwsapp1.suva.ch/sap/public/bc/its/mimes/zwaswo/99/pdf/44022_i.pdf
    Thanks.
    Roberto

Hi Seems a similar problem here too. Saving CMYK files in illustrator as pdf to mail to customers. A navy color in the file displays as grey in Preview Mail and Quicklook, but it prints correctly to our Xerox DC12 and opens fine in Acrobat with the same navy blue as viewed in illustrator CS4.
We tried making the colour a spot not process same problem.
We have tested this on an iMac with 10.6.1 with CS4 and a PowerMac with 10.6.1 with CS4. It seams to be in Snow Leopard only. The color displays on Leopard correctly in Preview, Mail and Quicklook.
Is any one else having Preview colors displaying wrong?

  • Difference between Reader, Pro and Preview

I'm running Leopard 10.5.7 with Preview. I also have Acrobat Reader 9.1 and Acrobat Pro 9.2 installed. What is the difference between the 3 programs? My default when opening PDF's from Safari is Acrobat Pro. I can open PDF's just fine with Pro. But when I launch the Reader it asks me if I want to use that program as the default.
I also like the ability to use the built-in Preview function because it seems to use less resources (ram) than Acrobat Pro.
Can someone explain the difference of the 3 programs and what the advantages of one over the other are?
I create PDF's all the time with In Design and know that with Reader I can't save any changes to the PDF I can only print and read from them.
Do I even need Reader installed or is this overkill?

I would say it depends on what (if anything) you need to do when viewing the PDF files in one of those 3 applications.
Acrobat Pro: Provides useful tools in examining the document as well as making some basic corrections. These tools include Output Preview (color warnings, ink viewing, object inspector) and Preflight.
Preview: Has some limitations when viewing documents. Most notably, overprinting cannot be simulated but there may be others. Some transparency blending modes are displayed quite as expected either.
Reader: Lighter weight than Acrobat Pro, but I am not aware of any viewing limitations as compared with Acrobat Pro (and it does support simulating overprinting in viewing)

  • Difference between execution mode of Print preview and Print for Output

    Hello,
Can anybody tell the difference between execution mode of print preview and print for an output (For eg. PO output or Invoice)?. I am trying to download some documents linked to Purchase order to desktop. The code is written in the same driver program for printing PO and it is executed after smartform function module is called. It works fine in print preview mode and it fails in print mode. The reason why download fails in print mode is that GUI not available (just found from debugging).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Anil

    HI
try using any other printer and find out if you are getting the correct output. The printer needs to support Multiple Unicode encoding schemes like UTF 8, UTF 16BE, and UTF 16LE, plus special characters and logos, bi-directional text layout, and custom characters..

  • Xcelsius doesn't display the date difference in Preview

    Hi,
Im using the Xcelsius Enterprise 2008 and I use XML connectivity for the source. I would like to do some date difference calculation on my spread sheet. But the result of the date difference does no appear on the Preview for some reason. My XML file has got the date format dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm. I tried to convert the date to number format by multiplying the date by 1. When I do this the result appears correctly as I want on the Preview, but the problem is when there is a first refresh, the date difference shows a error value "#Value". I tried to enable XML Map Properties -> When refreshing or importing data:
    1. Overwrite existing data with new data
    2. Append new data to existing XML lists.
But still not of any use. Could any one please give me a tip to resolve my problem.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Priya

    Hi Priya
Can you please tell me what formula are you using to take difference in dates?
Just to tell you as a point of information, Xcelsius is capable to handle very limited set of formulas. In spreadsheet you will see the formula working perfectly fine but right after hitting preview button you wont be able to see values calculated by certain formulas in Excel. So, its always good to use less and very basic formulas.

  • Subreport preview issue differences between VS 2008 and VS 2012

I have a report that contains a subreport which source is a report already deployed on the report server.  In VS 2008, when you do a preview the data in the main report displays fine and you get an error on the subreport.  In VS 2012, when you
try and do a preview, the entire report displays a processing error.  Why do the VS versions behave differently when it comes to displaying any of the data?  Is there something I can do in VS 2012 to have my main data display?

    Hi DBAlicious,
I already taken a sample test in my visual studio 2008 and visual studio 2012 environment, the result is that the main report displays fine and an error displays on the subreport when we preview the main report. The only difference is that subreport always
displays “Error: Subreport could not be shown” in VS 2008, while the subreport displays error message based on the specific exact error in VS 2012. But we can see the detail error message from Error List Window in those two versions.
In your scenario, I think the reason is that there are some errors in the main report, so the entire report displays a processing error. We can directly preview the main report without the subreport to test the main report. Or use the same project in those
two versions to test the issue again.
If there are any other questions, please feel free to let me know.
