Preview 7.0: Smart Zoom became "Stupid Zoom"

When reading pdf files in Mountain Lion (e.g. a pdf newspaper or longer article), Smart Zoom (double-tap) was a great function and behaved most of the times "smartly".  The text was increased to a perfect size for reading.
Under Mavericks and the introduction of Preview V. 7.0, Smart Zoom basicaly still works, but increases the text way too much (always talking a column). For pdf reading pruposes, Smart Zoom virtually became useless.
Does anybody face the same issue or has any idea how to resolve or adjust the level of zooming?  I hope this simply is a bug under Preview 7.0 and will be corrected with the next update.  If not, Smart Zoom no longer behaves smartly.
Best regards,
René, Munich, Germany.

Sorry
Problem solved....

  • Smart zoom in Preview?

You'd think smart zoom would work in preview.............but it doesn't with the images I've opened.

It works with a PDF for me, with the mouse.  I can't get it to work with a .jpg, and the pinch zoom doesn't work for me either.  Of all the documents you'd think smart zoom would work with, an image file should be at the top of the list!!

  • Smart Zoom Query.

Does the Smart Zoom function only work with Apple programs like for example Safari, iPhoto or Preview?  I ask because I can't get it to work using Chrome or Acrobat and I have to use the ctrl key then even then it isn't a similar kind of zoom as just tapping the Magic Mouse.
Is there a way to get the Smart Zoom function of the Magic Mouse to work on non-Apple programs?
    Thanks

  • Why does Android Reader smart zoom not work as described on Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet?

The smart zoom feature in Android Acrobat Reader allows you to double tap on a text column and the reader will zoom up to the column in improve readability.  This feature works great on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smart phone, but only appears to zoom half way on the Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet.
    Is this a bug?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

  • Smart Zoom in Safari 7/Mavericks?

After the upgrade to Mavericks Smart Zoom seems not to work in Safari.  Is there a way to re-enable the convenient zooming in of a web page by double tapping my magic mouse?

I mean to say: after you enabe Smart zoom, you have to restart your Mac for the changes to take effect.
I apologize for accidentally leaving out that detail.

  • Smart Zoom in Numbers 1.4 for iPhone 4

Just downloaded Numbers 1.4 for iPhone 4. I created a spreadsheet without problems. My question concerns Smart Zoom. How does one activate this feature or is it automatic? Each time I double-tap on a field to edit it, the cell information doesn't zoom. Any help appreciated.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that didn't help Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • Smart Zoom Problem? Safari keeps zooming OUT.

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I've had a problem with Smart Zoom. Using a Magic Mouse, I'm aware that it's a double tap to zoom in and another to zoom out. I actually like this feature and use it frequently enough that I don't want to have to turn it off to solve my problem.
The issue is that pages seemingly randomly zoom OUT and the text becomes very small. I do not know what gesture is doing this and it happens ALL the time. If I double tap, it zooms in, but it is the enlarged zoom in, as if I had done it from the normal text size. I have to hit cmd+0 to get it back to normal. It's become very annoying and I can't seem to find any info on it; everything out there is about zooming in, not out.
    Thanks.
    Safari 6.0
    OS X 10.8.0

This is a definitely a problem and I've now not only noticed it happen on 2 macs but actually waited and monitored until I finally observed it happening WITHOUT ANY MOUSE CONTACT. Having now witnessed it in two different locations with two macs and two mice, it certainly isn't absent-minded tapping!!
I wonder if the mice have a static problem or are just oversensitive even to something coming near.
And btw this only started when I on one occasion upgraded to and on another bought Mountain Lion. It's quite random.

  • How can I change the double tap smart zoom feature ?

The mouse preferences doesn't list this option like I see in the tutorials. I have hand tremors and its driving me CRAZY. If I want the screen larger I'd rather do it manually thru the keyboard. How can I update the preferences menu ?

It should be shown as "Smart zoom" in System Preferences > Mouse > Point & Click -

  • Smart Zoom in Safari with YouTube

    Hello.
I like the Smart Zoom feature that OS X and Safari has. It allows me to easily doubletap my mouse and Zoom in to whatever I want. I used to do it all the time when I watched YouTube clips, just doubletap and the clip is almost (but not) in full screen. Nice and practical.
However, that is now impossible. Whenever I smart zoom onto a clip, the "black box" that has the actual clip in it and also the controls gets zoomed, but the clip itself does not follow suit.
See the attached screenshot to see what I mean.
I have tried this on a completely new and fresh install of Yosemite.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it? Is this a known issue?
    My setup is:
27 inch iMac, Yosemite, Safari 8.02

I mean to say: after you enabe Smart zoom, you have to restart your Mac for the changes to take effect.
I apologize for accidentally leaving out that detail.

  • Any ideas why Smart Zoom only working in Safari and not TextEdit, etc.

I like using Smart Zoom, but it only works in Safari for me. Is anyone else experiencing this or have a suggestion for fixing this? I thought it was supposed to work in TextEdit and some other Apple programs.

System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing. Is Zoom turned on?
Also look in System Preferences > Trackpad > Scroll & Zoom tab > uncheck Smart zoom
Or System Preferences > Mouse  > Smart Zoom.
EDIT: Just tested Text Edit and it won't respomd to a SZ

  • Smart zoom doesn't work in Safari with Mavericks

After update Mountain Lion to Mavericks, smart zoom in Safari doesn't work for me. Same case with swipe pages. Am i the only one?. Thanks.

Check your Mouse and/or Trackpad settings in System Preferences. The upgrade may have disabled the Smart Zoom and Swipe gestures.
Some users (myself included) are finding that re-enabling them doesn't work, though.

    Hi,
Sorry I can't help you. I just wanted to let you know I have the same exact problem. It started three days ago and I've been going back and forth with creative support and nothing has worked. I am beginning to grow really distressed. I feel a little better now because after seeing that it's happening with someone else, it is most likely not the player. I am running windows 98 SE as well. I also have an AMD Duron processor. I have a new computer on the way with windows XP I really hope it works. But now I have a new problem. I listed it on the front page of this forum a few minutes ago. My player froze and now only boots up in rescue mode. I am getting so frustrated with my player. If you figure anything out will you be as kind as to send me a message on how you got your player working again? I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
    Nick

  • Preview.app - lost the "zoom to fit" feature ?

you used to be able to set the "zoom to fit" feature and it would zoom every image to fit on screen. Now with Leopard - one cannot do this anymore.
    Or am I wrong ?
I tried playing with the controls and no combination made this work again. Its annoying for sure.
    Why downgrade features Apple ?

Zoom to fit is still available. You can choose it from your menubar.
Larger than screen images will be made to fit the window, but not smaller ones, larger.
In the Preview preferences, Images tab, setting the default image size to
Scale large images to fit window seems to work for me. Is this what you mean?

  • Preview question-how to zoom an image to full screen

As this isn't a Print question but an on-screen viewing question, I ask it here. Seems to me I used to be able to click a shortcut that would zoom an image in Preview to fill the whole screen. I'm no longer finding that and wondering if it was a) my imagination, b) a script, or c)some other x-ware that allowed this (or was it a feature in earlier flavors of 10.X?

  • Dear Apple, add Smart Zoom to OS X Mail.

This seems like a simple add that could easily enhance the Mail experience, both for reading eMail as well as for composing eMail. Anyone else with me on this?
