Preview and a PDF document problem-suggestions please

http://www.godsendagenda.com/art/D6PowersSample.pdf
The above is a sample of a pdf document which views fine in adobe reader, but in Preview appears to have issues with text lines and pictures interacting. One cuts out the other (or fades it). Can anyone who has know how take a look and tell me what I can recommend to the author to fix this issue so Preview works like AR? Thanks in advance for anyone who has this kind of tech knowledge.

I took a look at it and see the same weirdness. Superficially it looks fine, but if you take a close look at the ends of some, but by no means all, the printed lines that abut graphics files while also printing over an underlying graphic, parts of the words have disappeared. What's odd is you can double click a messed up word, select copy, and the whole word appears on the clip board. I seem to remember Preview having some problems with certain kinds of transparency effects that work fine in Acrobat. That may be the case here.

  • Problems while reading and displaying .pdf-Documents from Bfile

    Hi
I want to read and display .pdf-Documents in Adobe-Reader that are stored as BFile. While displaying the Document Adobe Reader is showing several Errors like " ..less Picture-Data read than expected.. ". Is this a Buffer-Problem? or whatelse ??
    Thanks for help

    PrintStream wr = new PrintStream(socket.getOutputStream());
wr.close();I suspect this is the problem. You could try socket.shutdownOutput() - or you could just leave the streams alone and let socket.close() shut things down.

  • Formatting issues with a cut and pasted PDF document

    Hi,
I am working with a lot of scanned PDF text and online PDF documents. When i paste them into pages 09, I am getting that little Paragraph symbol after each line of text. I think it is basically a line break. This causes problems for me and I wish that there was a fast way of deleting all of thise little breaks at one time somehow instead of manually deleting them, line by line, like i've been doing. PLEASE someone, if you can help with this, you will save me untold hours of tedious labor.
    thanks!

Peter's solution is excellent & I've used it for years. But there are a couple of options that automate the process. Here's a thread with an explanation & links.

Hi there, I currently subscribe to Adobe Pro Subscription (yearly) and I also subscribe to Adobe PDF pack (monthly).  I only require Adobe to read and create PDF documents such as converting word/excel document or a web based document.  Can someone tell me if I'm doubling up as I'm not sure of the differences between the products and would like to save a few dollars.

Acrobat Pro can do a lot more than the PDF Pack online service.
Try if you can do everything you need with PDF Pack; otherwise keep Acrobat Pro.

  • Frame Maker 9 and 10 PDF Print problem

Frame Maker 9 and 10 PDF Print problem
Hi I have an computer with windows 7 and the Adobe Software.
The Distiller 9 with adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Design Standard CS3 is also installed.
Now, I open in Frame Maker 9(Full Version) or 10(Trial Version)   an *.fm File. Then I go to “File- save as pdf” and then save I receive an message like this:
“to execute the ‘Save as PDF’  is necessary to have install Acrobat Distiller 5.05 or higher”.  But I have the Distiller 9.
Then I can click OK and now I receive another message like this:  “you must  define “PDF job options” if you want to execute it.”
If I look for the PDF job options I can’t select something. But if I look in the Distiller I have a lot of option I can select.
What is the problem. Is there a solution?
    Can somebody help me?

Using AW 6.2.9 and Mac OS X v10.5.7, the file prints successfully to pdf using the "Save as PDF..." option in the print dialogue. I didn't try to print the result to paper, but that appears to eliminate the file itself as the cause of the problem.
Two first aid steps that might resolve the issue:
    Delete the AW preferences.
In the Finder, click the house icon (yourname) in the sidebar of a Finder window, then Library > Preferences..
Locate and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist
       Open the folder AppleWorks
Delete both cache files and the two preferences files.
It's also safe to delete the Button Bars file, but unless you have issues related to the Button Bars, you're also safe to leave it there.
AppleWorks will create new (and clean) versions of these files as it needs them.
    Repair Permissions.
Go Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Launch the application, select your startup drive, click First Aid, click Repair Permissions.

  • Problem with sending and archiving pdf document

    Hello experts,
I have created the following SAP PI scenario:
First a pdf document will come from our partner to a specified directory. The ftp adapter sender get this file and also set the filename in the adapter specific messages. Then a udf mapping starts to read the filename of the pdf document, because the filename includes a ordernr for a sales order in sap. So the filename will be mapped to an easy rfc structur, afterwards the RFC Adapter will be called. After this I have to archive and delete the pdf document in the origin directory. But this will not work. I tried following steps.
After calling the rfc adapter another receiver determination will be called. That means a ftp adapter receiver is called that gets the filename and copies the pdf document to another directory. This works, but if I try to open the pdf document then it does not work, because the pdf document includes the structure of the rfc function module, filled with the filename param.
Furthermore the archive function of the ftp adapter sender does not work. Everything is correct set, but the pdf document will not copy to the right folder. Before I create a Java adapter module for the file adapter sender, that copies and deletes the file in the origin folder,  another solution would be better.
    Kind regards,
    Erkan

Ideally the processing mode Archive should work for your case.
This works, but if I try to open the pdf document then it does not work, because the pdf document includes the structure of the rfc function module, filled with the filename param.
Why are you using the RFC structure  for the other receiver in receiver determination. Use some dummy name in the Interface name and interface mapping and still the scenario will work. In the receiver channel, use the File type as binary.

  • Preview and creating PDF's

    Hello All,
I recently got a new iMac with Snow Leopard installed.  My old computer was a G5 iMac with Leopard.
I am trying to create a single PDF from several individual PDF's on my new computer using Preview.  This used to be a very simple operation with dependable results using Leopard and my old computer.
Well, I am having all sorts of problems with Snow Leopard and it's version of Preview.
I open Preview with one PDF and then add 3 more by dragging them to the sidebar.  Then I can rearrange as I want.  The probem occurs with I attempt to save the new document.  It will only save the page that is highlighted.  I tried to highlight all the pages but that still does not work and only 1 page gets saved.  I finally worked around it by highlighting all the pages in the sidebar and then used "Print selected pages" to create the pdf.  This is not an easy task depending upon how many pages are in the new PDF. Luckily today I only needed to merge 4 pages.
Does anybody have any suggestions as to do this in the version of Preview that comes with Snow Leopard?
    Thanks for your help.
    Sue

The problem isn't with what Acrobat is discarding, but what Mac Preview is doing with the data available. The problem is with Preview. You cannot make a silk purse with a sow's ear. If Preview is doing a terrible job rendering a perfectly fine pdf, that Reader displays appropriately, there is nothing Adobe can do.

  • Civil 3D 2011 Drawing file layers are off but show up in preview and final PDF

    I am using a Windows 7 64-bit,  Acrobat 10.1,  Autocad Civil 3D 2011
In a site plan drawing we are trying to create PDF's of files that have xref's attached. The title block (an xref) is in paper space and the site plan xref is in model space.
When turn off certain layers from the site plan as viewed from paper space to remove clutter and then go to make a PDF. After getting it set up to print, and going to the preview the layers we have turned off appear in the preview and if we go ahead and make the PDF those layers turned off will show up.
We have made sure "Visretain=1" but the layers still show up. If we open the xref by itself and turn off the same layers and go through the PDF process they do NOT show up in the preview or the final PDF.
I have installed Acrobat 10.1 but that did not fix the problem either.
    Any suggestion is appreciated!
    Thanks!

Not yet - Acrobat X is the current version, and support for PDFMaker plugins is usually only updated in major releases, especially where the integration is complex (as it is with ACAD).
An x64 operating system isn't a problem, but x64 applications are - Acrobat is a 32-bit program and I expect it will remain so for several more years, so plugging it into the internals of 64-bit primary applications is a horrible job for the engineering team.

  • Clearscan Errors in Preview and other pdf viewers

I scan a lot of documents and have started using the ClearScan OCR option.  This produces very good quality scans and very small file sizes, but I've been running into problems when I try to read my pdfs in Preview or other pdf readers.  If I open a ClearScanned pdf in Preview and try to copy and paste some of the text, it pastes just fine.  If I save the pdf in Preview, however, and then try to copy and paste text, the result is something like this: "␣␣␣␣␣ ␣␣␣".  The PDF still looks fine, it doesn't change its visual appearance, but the OCR is no longer correct. This is a big problem because I use several other pdf readers to read and annotate my PDFs, and any time I save a ClearScanned PDF I lose the functionality of scanned text (since I can no longer copy and paste or even search the PDF since all the letters have been replaced with "␣").  Has anyone else had any problems with ClearScan?  Is ClearScan only compatible with Adobe, or is there any way to save a ClearScanned PDF so that it will work correctly with other PDF viewers?   Thank you!

I have not tried it, but I've seen posted in another thread that one of the Preflight options in AA9 allows you to embedd the fonts created by the ClearScan process. This might fix your problem. You just have to figure out how to use Preflight!
I just tried this - it's the "Embed fonts" option under the PDF fixups category. I can't tell if it will do what you need though, as I don't use Preview or any other PDF viewer. It did seem to embed fonts that were previously not embedded, though (a) they still didn't show up in the PDF Optimizer dialog, only in the document properties dialog, and (b) it seems like the ClearScan were embedded in the first place, even before I ran this Preflight.

  • Colors in PDF documents are wrong Please!!! Help!

When i open a PDF color document with Adobe, the colors are all wrong. It doesn't matter if i open the PDF document in IE browser or Adobe alone on desktop. All the PDF documents have the wrong color being displayed. Downloaded latest driver for monitor, Graphics card. Same documents display correct colors on other PDF reader like foxit. however adobe is incorrect. Tried reinstalling it and still have the same error. Please help.

I'm only having this problem with Adobe. I did uninstall all adobe applications that i could find and then reinstalled them. I only used Control panels add remove applications. I did restart my system after the uninstall. I also cleared the registry using CCleaner to remove any additional adobe files that may have been left behind.
I've fiddled with the Preferences tab. I couldn't get it to correct the colors. I've checked Replace document colors and tried all the options Colors where still wrong. Currently the settings are Document Colors options... Replace document colors Unchecked. Override page display unchecked for both. Tab order checked. Other accessibility options all unchecked. I called support and because I'm only using the free adobe reader I'm not privileged enough to get their technical support, that's only reserved for the paying full blown version of Adobe. They directed me to the forum. I'm very appreciative to all of those who are trying to help and i hope everyone can help me fix this problem.

  • Preview not showing pdf document.

Preview 8.0 has stopped showing some of my pdf documents when opened.  the documents show up as thumbnails but not on the main document space which is blank.  it will temporarily show but then goes blank in a second.  i recently upgraded to Yosemite 10.10 on my iMac.
Used the Preview 7.0 on my MacBook Pro OS X 9.9  on the same documents and have no problems.
does anyone know how to fix this.

    Do a backup.
    Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following.
    Containers/com.apple.Preview
    Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist
    Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState

  • When will we be able to open and edit PDF documents in Indesign?

    Hi
It would be nice if Indesign could open PDF files.
When will this happen (without a plugin)?
Today I need to open the files in Illustrator. The customer prefers to use Indesign, so even though Indesign can export pdf documents I will have to tell the customer and the program can not open pdf files. This I find really weird.
Hopefully opening and editing pdf files in Indesign will happen real soon.
    Have a great day!

Paal, I'm sorry for that little out-lash. There is nothing wrong with inquiring the feasability of a new feature. The problem is that PDF has been an "output intended format" from the very beginning.
An Illustrator file (from a fairly modern version) also is a PDF file, for all intents and purposes. You can rename an .AI file to .PDF and use it anywhere, with any software that supports PDF (so that's excepting Apple's Preview, probably ;-) ). Moreover, you can still open and edit this PDF with Illustrator and get all of your objects, symbols, layers, paragraph styles, and guides back!
That's because in fact this file *contains* all this extra information in a data block marked "For Private Use Only". Other software, if adhering to Adobe's PDF specs, will simply ignore this (and thus my little jab at Apple's Preview). Does that mean you can edit such a PDF with *any* software? No -- the Illustrator data is "proprietary", and the details are not published to use by other software developers. Similarly, one could envisage InDesign to do the same. Yes, it would lead to *huge* files -- but hey, you would be able to open THAT file into InDesign and edit it. But not with any other software!
The meta-problem is that an extremely large amount of this private data would be *extremely* dependant on the software that was used to create it with. What would an Illustrator file do with InDesign's GREP styles? What would InDesign do with Illlustrator's brush styles, or symbols? Illustrator allows slanted guides, InDesign does not.
And let's not focus purely on a combo of ID and Illy; Photoshop *also* outputs PDFs, and its graphic data has yet another set of requirements.
So all of Adobe's software would need to be able to parse *every others' data* to some degree. Well, it's still not "unconceivable" as all of this would need to be done in one office (note that in that single office there are still vast differences in something as straightforward as a User Interface across the CS suite). But there are lots of other software developers out there, and they *all* want to write out PDFs, all with their own internal data! (Think of the different requirements between an architectural app and one for graph plotting.)
A *possible* solution would be to add "more" metadata to a PDF without crossing into the realm of "every single bit". Article tagging is an example of this -- it tells software that wants to know in which order *plain text* is to appear, and as such it serves as meta-data for plain text content. But the mind reels thinking of what more to add -- a list of used GREP styles per paragraph would probably be useless to anyone else.
But such an idea will not solve the problem, as 1. this meta-data is optional (lazy programmers would be allowed to say "nothing to see here, move along"), and 2. this data would only get added to *newly created* files, and it would not retroactively make older PDFs editable ...
(Now that's just the *short* version :-) h

  • Adobe Reader 9.3.4 causes poor screen resolution and unreadable pdf documents. Why?

When I open Reader (9.3.4) the screen resolution becomes very poor - like a color monitor from the early 80's - and text in pdf documents is highlighted black or some other random color, making it unreadable.  This has been the case since I upgraded from Reader 8 recently. Any ideas on how to fix this?

To those that tried to assist me with trying to get Reader to display
    correctly.  Thanks for your assistance.
I resolved the problem  by doing a backup of all my files, then formatting the hard drive and reinstalling all programs, from XP to Trend Micro, to Office 2003 and finally Reader 9.
The problem has gone and the speed and stability of my PC has been greatly improved.
