Preview and PDF issues

Hi everyone,
I have a PDF that has some pages which are portrait, and some which are landscape. When I print it using preview, all pages are printed in portrait mode. When I print it using Adobe, it prints correctly (portrait pages print in portrait mode).
Any idea why this would happen?
Thanks,
Dan

Thanks for the tip about holding the Option key. Didn't know that one.
There are other things that Acrobat Reader does, specialized things you can do in Adobe Acrobat to create PDF, that Preview does not. For example, you can create PDF forms with field that are editable. In Reader, you can enter text into those field before printing the form, although you cannot save the form. Preview does not have this capability.
So, you may have to install Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  • PL45 Print preview and PDF file with SN

Hi, we upgraded to PL45 and everything is working well other than one issue.  The issue is with print preview and converting to pdf files when item list with SN is involved in a form (e.g. Delivery and Invoice).  SBO will crash with file dump.
Is there anyone having similar issue?  If so, how was the issue was resolved?
If anyone is at PL45 could you let me know the names of the documents when printing "Delivery" form with items tracked by serial numbers?  I suspect it is this document that's giving us problem.
    Thanks.

    Yi,
I would follow the procedures layed out in note 1009615 and submit a ticket witht the log files attached.  Please seen note below.
    Good luck,
    Karl
In case SAP Business One application is shutting down unexpectedly, you should follow these instructions:
Go to SAP Business One application folder:
Right click on the shortcut for SAP Business One which is located on your desktop.
    Press 'Properties' button.
Press the 'Find Target' button on the bottom left of the window, SAP Business One application folder will open.
Open the Log folder, which now should contain 2 files that hold the data about the cause for the shutdown. The first file name is: SAP Business One YYYY MM DD HH MM SS.DMP. The second file name is: SAP Business One YYYY MM DD HH MM SS_dyagnostic.TXT.
Open a message to your support center and attach the 2 files and to the message. You need to pack the file *.dmp using a tool like Winrar, because you will not be able to attach *.dmp files directly. In the message content describe the actions that were taken. (please refer to the StepTemplate.xsl in the attachments).

  • Preview and pdf's in Safari

    Hi,
I prefer to view pdf pop up links in Acrobat Reader. There seem to be more steps to save a pdf opened in Preview than the one step to save a pdf opened in Reader. I used "more info" in Finder to change the preference for all pdf files to open in Acrobat. This works great except in Safari. Preview still opens the pdf links in Safari. Is there some way to stop Preview and use Acrobat for viewing pdf's in Safari? Acrobat is opening pdfs everywhere but in Safari.

This may be way out in left field because I couldn't really follow what all the entries were saying.
However, after my operating system was upgraded to OS X 4.8, I was unable to download PDFs. Safari always appended ".download" to the PDFs I was viewing. When I tried to save the document I was forced to use the .download extension.
Then when I tried to view the saved file, I was told that it was not valid download file.
To make a long story short, I quickly read through all the entries - I wasn't going to start deleting things as some of the entries suggested - but I did follow one suggestion, and that was to re-install Adobe Reader.
That fixed it. It all works quite differently than it did before my operating system was upgraded - but at least I can now SAVE and THEN READ a PDF now.
So, indirectly, thanks everyone for your help.

  • Tabs shown as exclamation marks in preview and pdf

I’m having a problem for which there is probably a perfectly good explanation: when I add tabs to my Pages document, they show up as exclamation marks in the document preview and when I print the document as PDF. Is there any way to turn this off? Thanks, Cait

    Hello
I'm unable to reproduce this problem.
Something seems to be odd in your system.
    Always the same tracks:
a - repair permissions with Disk Utility
b - trash the preferences file:
    <bootVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
c - if it is not sufficient try to run Pages from an other user account for see.

The issue is that the pdf preview in NWDS is blank and also I am getting blank white space instead of the form when i deploy the application on a browser.
I have used NWDS 7.1, SP05 + ALD 7.1 combination on another system and there i can see the form in NWDS pdf preview.
I am completely stuck, please let me know of any way out.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Try to uninstall adobe life cycle designer and install it onceagain..
Even we faced some times this problem, but better to use higher version of adobe life cycle designer like 8.0 whiuch will be compatible to your NWDS version...
Hope this helps you in resolving the problem...

I can't give a specific response, but if possible, upgrade to LCD 8.0 - it is much smoother to use than 7.1.
I almost pulled out all my hair working with 7.1

  • About mismatch in print layout in direct print and  print preview and pdf!

    Hi ,
I have created one smartforms, when I run the standard trasaction VF03 and select any output type  and then when I click on print preview button, and then when  I put  PDF!  in address bar  ,the print preview will convert in  PDF format,it will show output without bold   and comes only in normal fonts.
Also, when I run transaction VF03 and direct click Print button, then  it shows print as per requirement , but it overwrites some part on the end of page where company address is priprinted on stationary,so how can i show print format same in both condition without overwriting?
    Thanks.

    HI friend,
The one which is coming in the print (hard copy) is the correct one.
    Print preview may be different.
So if the print is coming in overlapping format means check whether the windows are aligned properly. Because if you have given any data in main window and when it grows it over laps on another window.
If that's is correct check the printer settings for it. Only these would cause the print to be distorted.
Check this and revert back if you have any issues we will help you.
    Thanks,

  • Preview and PDF: Text such as headlines are sometimes garbled

On occasion when I read PDF document some text gets garbled up. If I open the same find in Acrobat there are no issues.
I've tried to figure out how to report this but there seems to be nothing on Apple's support site regarding Preview at all.
It looks like the text is displaying one character on top of another.

Same problem here. Usually a restart helps. Sometimes one PDF doc will be garbled, another time not.
One thing I have noticed... how are you creating the PDF documents? I can see from the above post, one person created them in Windows. This might be the problem: the PDF engine used to generate the PDFs. I have been testing company invoices generated by a 3rd party FMP database, and now, just out of the blue, the pdf invoices render as garbled in Apple Mail and garbled when opened in Preview. Sure enough, when opened in Adobe, they render perfectly.
I don't know, however, if this is an issue with a non-Apple PDF generator, as I am not sure if my database system is using Apple's engine or something else...

  • QuickLook / Preview and PDFs with hidden layers

Hidden layers in PDF files show up in preview, quicklook and in the generated thumbnails. Is there any known fix for this to get the content to render with only the visible layers?

It would help to look at a sample. Can you post one?
Also, check the "Show Large Images" Page Display preference.

  • Preview and PDFs

For some reason my PDFs I make are being stored in a file called "tmp". The file seems to be an alias as it has the little arrow. If I forget to change where to save the PDF, it goes to this file. When I open that file, there is my PDF and even if I remembered to save it to the desktop, there is still a file in the tmp folder. When I open the tmp file there are some files that are empty. One said 501, one was 502 (that one is now gone).
Any ideas about what is happening? This just started happening.

Apparently you saved files into the tmp folder at some time in the past so that Preview is opening the folder as a default. You should not be saving any files into that folder, in fact the folder should not even be visible. I would not delete anything from that folder other than files you may have saved there yourself. If you have any PDF files still in the tmp folder you should move them to a location in your Home folder, such as your Documents folder.
Are there any other similar folder aliases visible besides tmp in that same location, such as etc, var? If so there's something you can do to fix the problem and make these folders invisible. This article explains the process for correcting the problem: Mac OS X 10.4- Invisible files become visible after NetInstall or restoring from a disk image.

  • Captivate 4 previewing and publishing issues

I downloaded and installed Captivate 4 on my computer. I'm a
current user of Captivate 3. I imported one of my projects into
Captivate 4, but when I try to Preview or Publish the project
    nothing happens.
When I published the project to HTML, it only created the
    "standard.js", "ProjectName.htm" and "ProjectName.swf". I'm
wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue with Captivate 4
and how I can fix it.
BTW, I just checked, and this only happens with the project
that was created using Captivate 3.
    Thanks in advance,

Had the same problem on coverting from cp3 to 4, getting the "Exception EConvertError in module converter.dll at 0000BBF3".
I had 8 files to convert. 4 worked fine and 4 did not, ie got the error msg above. 1 of those that didnt work did convert after retrying the process several times. As for the others this is what i did:
    1. launch the cp3 file in cp4
    2. when asked to save as new version do so, as a new name obv
    3. cp4 will then ATTEMPT to convert the file and you will soon see the Application Error
    4. close cp4 and launch the file you created in step 2
    5. now cp4 will launch and coninue the process it ATTEMPTED in step 3, you will again be asked to convert the file. do so again. this time however it should FINISH the process for you.
    6. cuss under your breath that cp4 should have done this for you in first place and you have lost hours of work.
    7. then cuss again that cp4 doesnt have the drag and drop question type that includes option for images.
    8. but then praise cp4 that it does however have the right-click functionality.
hope it works for you :-)
@_toll you are a genius. I've lost 5 hours worth of work trying to resolve the same issue. One more note to add to your instructions is that I found that (step 2) the message asking you to "Save As" pops up behind the Cp4 screen. So if you are stuck in "Reading Project" mode check to see if there is a pop-up message behind.
Uuuuuggggghhhh, Adobe why are you so hard to get along with?!?!

  • Preview and .dng issues

I've just converted ~1000 .crw files (from a Canon S45) to dng (using DNG Converter) and Preview posts an error when I try opening a converted dng:
"Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
In contrast Photoshop and iView Media Pro opens these converted DNG's without issue.
IS this a problem with Preview.app or the converted DNG files? I thought DNG was supposed to solve issues like this...

Thanks Terence for the replies. I've searched and read and can find no evidence that QT would ever be able to open a RAW file. In fact, when Apple releases support for new RAW files they update the OS, not the QT frameworks.
Then the answer is, if it's openable with QT, then it is. If QT cannot open it, then Preview can't.
I just tested this with my CR2 files--which come from a Canon 350D (Digital Rebel). QT can not open the CR2 file but Preview can.
I read on another board that the CRW files from my Canon S45 dont conform to some specification. I would assume the result of non-conformance means that these files cant be translated to DNG (and opened in Preview).
Of course if anyone else has any ideas I'd appreciate your input

  • Safari, Preview and PDF's

When I was using Tiger, I changed a setting so every PDF I downloaded opened with Preview instead of Safari, so it was easier for me to save them and view them.
Now that I have Leopard and Apple have added the Preview Menu Bar at the bottom of PDF's in Safari, I want to revert that setting so every PDF I download opens in Safari, but I can't find how to do that.
I've looked under Preferences in both apps and even try to force Safari to open a PDF, but all my efforts have been useless.
    Any ideas?

I apreciate you comment, but the problem is that I use Apple's Preview, not Adobe's Acrobat.
I also tried to change the program that opens all PDF's in the info dialog of a PDF, but that's no what I want because then all PDF's will open in Safari.
What I want is that if I click on a PDF in a Webpage then it will open in Safari. Only if I download the PDF then it should open with Preview.
Tiger used to do that, and every other Mac does it. But since I change that preference in Tiger, when I installed Leopard it preserved it and I don't want that.
    Do I make myself clear?
    Thanks, anyway.
PS: I could do a clean Leopard installation, but that's a lot of work. What I want is a solution, no a workaround.

  • Previewing and sync issues

Hi guys, I'm pretty new at using premiere so pls forgive me!
I bought a computer for the sole purpose of creating 30 sec episode previews (for television shows) but i'm encountering some issues. When i'm looking at the footage to chose out clips, the first 20 mins app. plays fine but in the rest of it the audio and video goes out of sync! even when i take out a specific clip to use in a different sequence the clip remains out sync even when i render it out! Also when i'm previewing my 30 sec. creation the preview sticks and then catches up. I don't know if it is a case of improper settings or if i need to upgrade the hardware.
    My specs are:
    4GB of Ram
    AMD Phenom 2.4ghz Quad-Core
    256mb onboard video card
    400 gb hardrive
    Windows7 Ultimate 64-Bit
    CS3 Premiere Pro
    Any help is much appreciated!

I'm just trying to ensure that i don't go spending money wildly and then it turns out i don't need it, you know what i mean?
I had CS3 pro on my laptop and it never gave me that problem and my laptop specs were:
    Dual Core 1.8ghz
    160gb HD (only one)
    32mb videocard
    2ghz ram
    Win Vista 32bit
Same footage, different computer...that's why i'm trying to figure out if it's a software/setting problem. Thanks for the help so far though.....any other thoughts?

  • Preview and Publishing Issues

I have the trial 2008 Xcelsius 5.0.0.99 version and have created a dashboard with 43 objects.  Everything was going great until I added 5-row, 2-column price array.  Now, when I preview or publish, I get a blank screen with an "Initializing . . ." box and it is frozen.  I can click preview again and it instantly goes back to edit mode.
If I delete the price array out, it still will not preview.  However, if I create a new, simplier dashboard, it previews fine.
After searching the forum, I have upgraded my Flash Player to 10.0 and upgraded my laptop memory to 2GB - which I needed to do anyway.
Is there a fix for this?
After reading some ov the other postings, I do not think that my dashboard is too complicated.  Please confirm.
I would be happy to send my dashboard to you for review if it would help.

    Hi TFulton
Looks like your using a relatively old version.  Can you patch your install to the latest version SP1, FP3 and try again?
