Preview and Pict in the 10.6 forums

Sometimes when I try and open a PDF file I recieve this message:
"It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
What should I do?

You can try downloading Adobe Reader to see if you get the same error.

My lightroom 4 will not import my files from my compact flash card . It has been working for years with out fail but now there is no import previews and it says the files are not recognized by raw format support in LR

I have lightroom 4 I've had it for years and it has imported my raw files from my CF card without issue . Now when I plug in my CF card to import new files it says import operations not performed and there are no image previews . When I continue by hitting "import" I get a pop up window that states "the files are not recognized by raw format support in Light Room"

Don't feel too bad. If the D4S has as many menus and custom functions as my Canon 5D Mark iii its easy to get messed up.
If you downloaded from the link I gave you it will be Lr 5.4. The link was just to show you when the D4S was supported. The newest version is 5.7.1 and can be downloaded here. Don't know your OS so you will have to pick Windows or Mac. Product updates
On my Mac I just run the downloaded installer program (its a full version and not an small update) and it installs the new version and erases the old version. If you are on Windows you will have to get help from a windows person.

Edit JPG in Preview and i loose the original ?

Hi i am very muddled up with, is it called Auto Save ?
I Crop a photo in Preview, there isnt a Save As.... just a Save, so i Save it and it Overwrites the original !!.
Why cant i have a Save As.... it would be far Safer and and Easier for me, an Old Un to understand.
So i do have to remember to Save a Copy BEFORE i do anything at all. gggrrrrrr

The original picture is still there. Open the modified version. Move the mouse curson to the right of the picture's name in the title bar. You'll see a little triangle. Click it and choose Browse all version.

Preview and published to the internet align differently

Things aren't lining up the same in preview as when published.

When I preview this page in browser, it looks fine.
When I publish the page and it shows the page from my harddrive file, it looks fine.
When I think go and look at it on the internet, it looks different.....why? How to fix?
in particular, undernearth the image box, the title and the directional buttons... they aren't aligned correctly on the internet version....the directional areas are jumbled under the image title.... and the thumbnails aren't lined up the same way as in Muse...... the right column is underneath the left

Is there a patch for Preview and iPhoto for the new Canon RAW format yet?

I recently purchased a Canon 6D, and I was surprised to find out that my Preview and iPhoto does not read the new Canon RAW codec. It's been out for almost 7 or 8 months. All my software is current. I have a 2007 MacBook Pro with iOS 10.7.5 The software that Canon supplied is terribly slow when it comes to importing the CR2 files and exporting them as jpegs. iPhoto can import my Canon 40D CR2 photos and spit out the jpeg proofs super quick. So, does anyone know of any software updates that I may have overlooked regarding iPhoto or Preview. I can't upgrade to Mavericks, as my computer will not support it. I have a feeling I may be SOL, but thanks for any help!

10.7.5 is not an iOS, it is a Mac OS X. And no, it is not current. 10.9.3 is current. As for your 6D, here's the RAW by operating system support:
Mac OS X v10.6: Supported digital camera RAW formats
OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats- your operating system
OS X Mountain Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats10.8
OS X Mavericks: Supported digital camera RAW formats10.9 support
Turns out the 6D is supported for 10.7. You need the RAW compatibility update 4.0.3:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 4.03
And the 40d is natively supported by 10.7.

Why do fonts display as blue, despite being red in live preview and in all the CSS rules?

I've been trying for hours to figure out WHY the fonts for certain lines will not obey every command I have given them in Dreamweaver.

The titles to these books are supposed to be red in color. They show red in every single place I can find them in Dreamweaver. They preview in red in live view. But they display in blue in the browser.
WHY is this? Is this a case of some CSS being over-ruled by a lower rule?
The tiles in blue that ought to be red are The 12 Days of Christmas in Washington, The Dancing Clock and Cromwell Dixon's Sky-Cycle, etc.

Loading websites is slow and firefox keeps hanging and nothing in the main help forum helps

Sites like youtube are slow to load and firefox seems to hang alot.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

For the past week or so I no longer see the toolbar in the Comcast Help Forums to reply to a post made in that forum. Has there been a change made to my iPad 3 settings and how to fix it?

Has something changed in the iPad 3? I Go to the Comcast Help Forums daily as a Volunteer Moderator and for the past week or so when I open a post in the Forum and attempt to reply to the post, ai no longer have a toolbar which contains different options that should be
available to me. Such as quote, font. Font size, inserting a link or image,etc.
Now- I do not have a toolbar at all! I already contacted Lithium who is the company that creates and maintains the Comcat Help F or umps.
What has happened and how do I resolve this? I would not be at all happy if Apple has done something that is now preventing me access.
I use my iPsd 3 daily for monitoring and helping in the Comcast Help Forums.

If this is what you are used to seeing in the Comcast forum, you need a browser that can identify as a desktop browser. Safari does not do this. I am using iCab Mobile and this is what the forum looks like when I sign in.

Wrong print preview and printed color from Lightroom 1.3

I am running Vista Ultimate and i just installed the driver for my Canon PIXMA Pro9000.
When i try to print from Lightroom 1.3 the colors are very muted, even when i do print preview the colors are wrong in the print preview screen.
No matter what i do i cant seem to get lightroom to Print Preview AND print with the right colors.

If i use Canon DPP the colors are not that bad, its a bit dark but that was easily fixed and i can get it quite close to what i see on the screen. My monitor is not calibrated..The images were all shot in RAW and converted to DNG...Do i need to re-install Lightroom as i don't think print preview has anything to do with the printer i have attached....

1. in the Print module, clicking on the Print Settings button ...
2. Choose your media type
3. Under Print Quality choose High
4. Under Color Intensity choose Manual. In the subsequent dialogue box choose None.
5. In the Print right hand panel under Color Management choose your print media - PR1 for Photo Paper Pro, SG1 for semi-gloss &c
6. Rendering intent Perceptual.
7. Hit Print and OK.

Preview and safari do not display images in a pdf, where as chrome will. How do I fix this?

I'm on the newest OS X Yosemite and I have an issue with viewing pdfs in both preview and safari. The figures show up fine from Chrome. This also leads to the issue of when I try to print off the pdf. The images do not appear in the printed version.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
          Allow Plug-ins
Then click
          Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.

The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:

If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

Preview and cloud

Hi everyone
I've noticed that Preview (and TextEdit) have the option of saving on the Cloud... but how do you access the Cloud for what you save through Preview and TextEdit? i.e.: I can access Pages and Numbers on the iPhone but where would Preview be accessed through ?

i have already create a custom workflow with sharepoint designer and checked for error and it seem fine. i published it on my document library so apprear the first issue : the column that contain the name of my workflow apprear and the link to start my workflow(contain
the name of my first stap) doesn't appear. the second problem is that when i tried to start the workflow manually on a specific document i get an alert : Something went wrong. To try again, reload the
page and then start the workflow
i tried : -restart service bus message broker -restart service bus gateway -recycle workflowMgntpool -flushed the dsn resolver cache and the problem still occure
on uls log viewer it seems to be an error on w3wp.exe process
the workflow history is empty

Hi Mokhtar,
For your first issue, when you publish a workflow to your document library, only after you start the workflow, then the link to go on the workflow(contain the name of the workflow stage) will appear.
For your second issue, my understanding is that you got an error when you manually start a SharePoint Designer 2013 Workflow.
Please go to Administrative Tools->Services, make sure the following services are started.
Workflow Manager Backend
Service Bus Message Broker
Service Bus Gateway
Windows Fabric Host Service

Problem with Print Preview and Print events

Hello Experts,
We have developed a program, in which, I m trying to display the % values in the Sub Totals and Grand Total lines, The logic and program functionality is performing very well. The report is displaying the output the way end user is willing to see.
The main problem is, the entire % values are going to a toss when we click the Print Preview or trying to print the report, which is not supposed to go that way. I have even tried to debug the program where the problem is evolving in the code, but it is not raised from the code.
Please refer to the screen shots.Before clicking the Print Preview and after clicking the print preview.
Do anybody face the same kind of problem ever?
If so please let me know what could be the best possible solution.

Preview and Grayscale wierdness

When I view a PDF comprised of grayscale images, all of the grayscale pages are displayed in reversed white letters on black! What gives? The non-grayscale pages are perfect.

I took a look at it out of curiousity, using both the Tiger and Leopard versions of Preview, and both show the reversal. So does QuickTime Player, which will also open it. Photoshop and Illustrator would not open it at all, demanding a password. The GIMP would open it, and will display the grayscale pages normally, black on white. ColorSync Utility also opened it, again with white on black. So it looks like the problem is deep in OS X Leopard (GIMP is using other stuff from X11 to do its thing). BTW, the pages that are backwards won't display at all in the Panther version of Preview.

Leopard's Preview and print size of JPG

Why doesn't Preview print the actual size of JPGs? Under tools in Preview's file menu, a JPG's size can be adjusted. However, these size settings don't seem to reflect the size of the printed picture. If the scale for printing is set to 100%, the size does not match the actual size of the photo. Any suggestions or explanations?

Are you saying that the print preview on the print menu dialog doesn't match with what will actually print, but if you print at 100% it will print at the size expected? I didn't actually try that. What I did was pick a scale % that gave a print preview (on the print menu dialog) that looked about right and printed that way. It worked, but that seems like a pretty hokey way to do it. If I resize using Preview and then import the resulting JPG file into another graphics program, the sizing is perfect. The problem seems to be that when printing from Preview the program wants to automatically fill the printed page with the graphic, and I can't seem to tell it not to. I just want the actual image size.
