Preview and Pictures lost in my Aperture library after Leopard Upgrade :(((

Hi,
So I was using Aperture 1.5.5 on Tiger 10.4.10 with bench of folders and pictures in it. I backup my Aperture Library file, and then reinstalled my whole system with Leopard, then reinstalled Aperture from original CD, then did the upgrade to 1.5.6 and then put back my Aperture Library from my backup.
Then I start Aperture and begin of bad surprises When I click on a picture, it displays just one instant the preview of it, then I got a marroon background with and text that says (I translate as it's in french on my computer): Picture format not managed !! What does it mean ?? all these pictures opened smoothly with previous version of Aperture on TIger !!!
If I do a right click on that, picture displays correctly !!!!
Also something bad, I have some folders which contained bunch of pictures where I can see in list on left correct number of pictures, but when I select it, it looks empty (I have checked by hand in Aperture Library files and pictures are still there !!
What's wrong ? I must confess I'm pretty disappointed by how Apple manage migration to Leopard of that program where update to make it fully Leopard compatible is released just day of release of Leopard
Thanks for your help
Vincèn

Vincèn,
have you double-checked that Aperture uses the correct library (in Preferences) ?
Did you try pulling the Aperture prefs over from your backup also ?
And did you try a rebuild (depressing Cmd and Option during Aperture startup until the message comes up, choose Rebuild now, get a Coffee).
Note:
Even if all your images are referenced it's a good idea to use a Vault, as it backs up the structure (not the referenced images, of course).
Also ranting doesn't help getting answers. Asking a straight question is best, OK ?
I, like you, did a clean install and everything works just fine (everything, nor just Aperture).

  • Lost iPhoto access to photos after Leopard upgrade

After upgrading to Leopard, I had access to iPhoto 6.06 as before. But, then I had to do the workaround to re-establish my user account as Administrator, so as to install the Software Updates that showed up over the weekend.
That worked, but now iPhoto opens and just spins its circle as it tries to access the iPhoto Library. I've tried every solution posed on the boards, and none worked.
The images do open in Preview when accessed from Finder. When I try to add a web image to iPhoto, I now get a message that Safari cannot communicate with iPhoto.
Solutions tried: made sure all user accounts had read/write rights to the folders; ditto iPhoto.app; repaired permissions; even opened Garage Band and saved a file as 'Test' (opening and saving a file worked for a couple of posters); downloaded the iPhoto rebuild utility, but it couldn't access the iPhoto app; could not get iPhoto to offer to rebuild the library with Option/Command startup.
If I upgrade to iLife '08, will this problem go away? Or, has Leopard done something irreparable beyond the application itself? Has anyone heard if Apple is working on a patch for this? Mine is not the only computer affected: there are several others complaining on this and in the Leopard Topics area.
Model and OS below and current.
    Thanks for any help.

    Bruce
Upgrading to v7 won't solve the issue. The problem doesn't sound like it's with the application but rather with the Library.
    Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/BatChmod.png
(Credit to Old Toad for this one).
If that fails, Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • Importing old iTunes library after Leopard upgrade

    Hey,
I just upgraded my Intel MacBook to Leopard, using an "Archive and Install" install, without retaining previous "User and Network settings". This was done because when I first did a standard upgrade, I was taken to a log in screen and could not log in. This is just so you can get background on the situation at hand.
Now, I've successfully installed Leopard, but I can't import my entire previous iTunes Library. I can find the folders, with all the music in them, but I can't import the entire thing in one go. I could go through manually and click every sing song, but that would mean going through over 1,000 songs one by one. Not something I'm looking forward to.
Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

I was having the same problem after Leopard, went to pref/advanced/and selected the iTune library on my fire wire external drive, but would not load
Did what you recommended with the option key, was prompted to select a new library, selected it, then got this
Library locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission
    any thoughts?

  • Lost aperture library after lion upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Lion after re-installing my operating system. I then went to put Aperture (v3.2.4) back on my mac from my time machine and it says:
I really only need a book I've created previously to be made available. Can anyone help please?
    Conor

Did you buy Aperture from the Mac App Store? If so, I'd take the version you got from Time Machine and take it off your system, then redownload from the MAS.
If you have the discs, just re-install from them.

  • I have aperture 3.4.5 but si not available the uograde at 3.5 and i can't open my library after the update to' maverick

I have aperture 3.4.5 but si not available the uograde at 3.5 and i can't open my library after the update to' maverick

    Marco,
is your main system language set to English? If not, change the language to English in the "Language&Region" System Preferences  (see: Re: I bought Aperture in a box et can't upgrade from 3.4.5 to 3.5.). Then sign back into AppStore and reload the Updates panel.
Other things that could prevent the update are, if you moved Aperture from the Applications folder or renamed it. Then put it back.

  • Missing aperture library after moving it to external HD

My iWeb no longer "see" my aperture library after I moved it to my external HD. my aperture library was getting really large so I moved it off my internal HD to an external HD and now my iWeb doesn't see it.
Is there a way to tell iWeb where my new aperture library is located?
    thanks
    cliff

Only by manually managing the updating. If you have the external why not just locate the iTunes library there? You have the iPod for portability you don't need the library on the Powerbook.

  • I am unable to open my Aperture library after my computer crash!!

I get the following error meassage after my computer crashed and now unable to open Aperture library. Do not have any of my photos backed up as yet!!!
"There was an error opening the database for the library “/Volumes/My Passport for Mac/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.

The Crash may have prevented Aperture from closing the Library properly.
Make a backup copy of your Aperture library, before you proceed.
Then try to repair the library using the "Library First Aid Tools":
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
Locate the Aperture library on your My Passport drive, then hold down the Command and Option keys while double-clicking the Aperture library.
Select Repair Database from the First Aid panel.
If that does not help, repeat, but select "Rebuild database".
If you still have prolems, post back and explain, what happened before Aperture crashed.
    Regards

  • I have lost an aperture library after I had to reload aperture

I had to to reload aperture and the upgrades.  I have lost one of my libraries from the past year.  Any ideas where to look.  It is not in pictures.  It was quite full.

I keep my Library in my Pictures folder and import my digital photographs from my camera into my Aperture Library.  I then back up my Library (Aperture's Vault feature is useful for back-ups). Since my original digital photo files are "managed" (that means "inside the Aperture Library"), backing up the Library backs up my originals as well.
