"Preview" app default setting change??

Whenever I open PDF, Preview app will open the file with "side bar" showing page thumbnails (or table of contents if pdf was created with contents). This is really annoying because I have to close the side bar every time. I really do not want to see side bar whenever I open PDF documents.
How do I make this change as a default setting??
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply.
Under Preference: "Show Side Bar" has been 'unchecked' but still show sidebar with thumbnails whenever I open multi-page pdf document.
I'm aware of "Sidebar" button on top... but I really want to set "no sidebar" as default.
Any other suggestion??

Have you tried repairing the Acrobat installation and checked?
I would also recommend updating to version 9.5.5 and check.

  • Weather app - default setting

is there a way where we can have the weather app icon on the home page display the current temp. The cal app icon on the home page shows the current date and am hoping that the weather app has a setting to also show the current weather?

thank you for your nice reply. What is eating you man? Chill out man.
We posted this question for in case we missed a default setting or something or maybe its a bug.
It is very unlikely that apple will change all these apps to have the same navigation and buttons it is something that should have been done from the start. The default setting for the weather app is nice to have (even though its probably just lazy coding and inconsistency which is at the core of the issue)
have reported many issues with the link you provided and is yet to see any of these delivered.

  • Making Preview the Default App for .pdf Files

When I click on a .pdf file (such as one attached to an e-mail) it now opens in Acrobat Reader; it formerly opened in Preview (which I preferred). I don't recall making any changes and wondered if the "Preview as default" was changed in the recent OSX update. Can I set a preference somewhere to again have .pdf docs opened in Preview?

    Hello,
To open a document with a specific application:
In the Finder, select the document and choose File > Get Info.
In the Info window, click to show the "Open with" pane.
Choose the application you want to use from the pop-up menu.
If you want ALL documents that have the same file type as this one to open with the same application, click Change All.

  • Change Preview app's default monitor?

    Hi,
On a multi-display setup, does anyone know how to tell the Preview app which display it should use when opening files?
I have a four display setup, including an NTSC monitor. Preview keeps opening windows on the NTSC display, which isn't always on. I'd rather it default to display on one of my other screens.
    Thanks for any tips...

Agreed - this is annoying. I just toyed around with this program (http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/) but couldn't find any obvious/easy fix.
This is one area where Windows, dare I say it, does better, but only if the application author has coded a File, Send To.. menu item. I get the feeling that the OS X "Services" menu can be set up to do this using an Applescript but I don't know how.
Would be really good if there was a fix for this - I'm an Exchange/Entourage user so have very little choice.
    regards

  • Set Preview as Default Program for .PDF

Is there any way to set Preview as the default program for opening .pdf? It currently has Adobe setup as the default and I can't find a way to change it. Any help is appreciated.

Hello, and welcome to the Apple Discussion Forums!
Select a PDF file (any PDF file). Then do +File > Get Info+ (or Command-i keyboard shortcut).
In the Get Info window, where it says "Open With", select Preview. Then click +Change All.+

  • Preview.app - make "Move" the default cursor tool rather than "Text"?

Whenever I open up Preview.app, "Text" is the default cursor tool. How can I change this default to Move?

That's because you're opening text documents, so it thinks you want the text tool. Try a jpg.
While it won't default to move, it won't default to text either. Move is only a ⌘-1.

Did you check the Zoom setting?
Have you tried a reset (reboot)? Hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears.
If it isn't Zoom and a reboot doesn't help try Settings/General/Reset - Reset all settings

As you have pointed out, in ttisql session you can use AUTOCOMMIT 0 to disable the autocommit feature.
Similarly in ODBC-based applications, execute SQLSetConnectOption function with SQL_AUTOCOMMIT_OFF.
For JDBC applications, Connection.setAutoCommit(false) method to disable autocommit feature .

  • On a Mac I want to use Preview as default to read PDF's, and Firefox won't let me use anything but Adobe Reader. How to change?

It had been working properly until recently. I have tried the usual setting in firefox>preferences>applications. It accepts Preview as default, but uses Adobe anyway. If I set it to Ask, it does ask me, and when I tell it to use Preview it uses Adobe.
Desired default operation is download PDF's and open with Preview.

The file that stores your preferences for how to open downloads is named mimeTypes.rdf. Since it has a somewhat inscrutable format, the usual remedy is to rename it and have Firefox generate a new one.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show in Finder" button
Leaving Finder open, switch back to Firefox and Quit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Restart Firefox and reselect your preference. Any improvement?

  • How do I change the default setting on messages I print in "Mail".

I know I can use the Font box on the tool bar and change each individual message but I don't want to have to do this. I can't adequately see the present default setting. I am sure it is something simple, but being new to the Mac I can't seem to find the right solution.

Go to Mail>Preferences>Fonts and colors and set your font permanently there.

  • How do I change the default setting on  the 'view scale'?

I'll try submitting this a second time - it didn't seem to go through the first time.
I have an iMac G5 (OSX 10.4.4.), my first encounter with Apple. I find that the default size that text displays on screen in the wordprocessing application is too small for my eyes (I ain't as young as I used to be ...). The text always displays in what seems to be about font 8 or 10, no matter what size I set the document font (it will print in the size I set, but not display in it).
I have discovered that I can change the display size by using the 'view scale' tab in the lower left corner of the window. Size 140 suits me just fine. Problem is that I have to change the view scale each time I open a new document.
Can anyone tell me how to change the default setting on 'view scale' ?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You can create default documents with the settings you want for each type of AppleWorks document. I wrote a user tip, New, blank documents with your settings, that details how to do this.
