Preview app not working since Yosemite update

Preview will not open jpeg or any other document.  I get an error message stating "an unexpected error" has occurred.  I tried repairing disk permissions and worked with a Genius tech on the chat feature but nothing worked.  It was recommended to uninstall and reinstall Yosemite but it failed to work.  Since then, I am worried about trying again as the first update reset passwords and accessibility to pro apps such as Photoshop and Lightroom, data was lost somehow and install subscriptions were

Do a backup.
Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following. You may not find them all.
Containers/com.apple.Preview
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState

  • Facebook app not working since new update

Ever since I installed the new update for the phone about 2 weeks ago my FB app won't work anymore. It pops up with an error message. It's the FB app that came with the phone. I can still access everything else. I'm also having more trouble with my advanced task killer since the update. Everytime I open it theres a ton of apps running that I haven't touched so I switched my settings to the "crazy" auto-kill level but it's still not working. Help please...

For Facebook,  search the market for Facebook for Android.  This is the updated version of the stock Facebook.  It will save over the Facebook app that is currently installed(it won't erase your data) plus this will alert you when there are new app updates.
For your tasktiller, Froyo has a decent task killer built in.  There are always small tasks that happen in the background for different apps.  I find that my battery lasts a little longer after I uninstall advanced task killer.
I hope this helped. Have a good day.

  • REMOTE DESKTOP (MICROSOFT) NOT WORKING SINCE YOSEMITE UPDATE.  ANY ONE KNOW A FIX FOR THIS ?

MICROSOFT RDP HAS WORKED FINE WITH YOSEMITE.
AIRPORT UTILITY IS UP TO DATE.
SINCE YOSEMITE UPGRADE THERE IS NO ABILITY TO CONNECT FROM HOME TO OFFICE.
IOS DEVICES CAN CONNECT BUT THEY ARE CELLULAR ANYWAY SO IT SEEMS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE WIFI NETWORK.
I AM RUNNING MY CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET ON A RECENTLY PURCHASED NETGEAR ROUTER.
THERE IS ALSO A TIME CAPSULE IN MY SETUP.
    ANY SUGGESTIONS ?

Thats a good point. Let's troubleshoot network connectivity.
Open RDP, right click your connection and select edit, then copy the PC name.
open terminal Finder > Utilities > Terminal and type the following
    telent YourPCName 3389
where "YourPCName" is the name you copied above. Hit enter
You won't get a "success" message or anything, if the terminal window just goes blank, then there is not a firewall/network issue.
If you clearly get an error, then it's either Firewall or DNS. Try the following in terminal
    ping YourPCName
if it starts showing an IP address, line by line by line, then it is definatelly a firewall issue
if not, trying getting the IP address from the winders box by opening a command prompt and type
    ipconfig
do all the above again but use the IP address in place of YourPCName

  • Itunes will not work since yosemite update

I updated to the latest OS Yosemite and since I cannot open iTunes.
I have updated to the latest version and still nothing everything else works fine.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.Have yo tried:
    - Backing up and restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

  • HT4623 My sounds for such things as Netfix, or ABC Shows, etc does not work since last update.  How do I fix that?

Sound not working since last upgrade. Get no sound with Netflix or ABC, NBC,etc. worked fine before last update.
    How
    do I fix this?

    Hey Janetna5,
Thanks for the question. Does restarting your iPad help the issue?
    Restarting your iOS device
    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
    2. After the device has turned off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
via iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
If not, is it possible that your side switch is toggled to mute sounds? See this resource for information:
Volume buttons and the Side Switch - iPad User Guide
    http://help.apple.com/ipad/7/#/iPad9940e758
Mute notifications, alerts, and sound effects. Slide the Side Switch toward the Volume buttons.
The Side Switch doesn’t mute the audio from music, podcasts, movies, and TV shows.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • App store login - not working since Mavericks update

    All,
Since I updated to Mavericks, I find I am unable to log into the App Store. I get the login pane OK, enter my credentials, then get a spinner that waits... and waits... And never works.
The Apple ID I am using is good - iTunes likes it fine, and I'm using it to post this. Just the App Store, and only since the Mavericks update; indeed I used the Apple ID to install Mavericks...
Google tells me I am not the only one seeing this - but the suggested fixes do not seem to work for me. Do we know if a "proper" actual official fix wil be forthcoming?
Indeed, do Apple acknowledge that some folks are having a problem with this?
Anyway, in case anyone else stumbles onto this one:
    - There are many threads suggesting that deleting the network plist helps (though did not for me)
    - For some, deleting /Users/ian/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist helps (though not for me...)
    - and so on.
What "works" for me, albeit as a workaround, is to create a new user account on the machine, and use that to access the App Store - with the same ID etc., but this time it works. At least one time, so far!
I'd much rather my regular account Just Worked.
Any of the accounts (myself, wife, etc.) on the machine before the Mavericks upgrade however; they can not log into the App Store any more.
No Idea why not; presumably "something" changed in the updates and that broke the login in some way; though why iTunes et al appear unaffected is less clear!

Just an update to note that, after leaving it alone for a while, I tried the app store again today and it now works from my regular account once again.
    Which is nice...
No idea what changed in the meantime, but at least it appears to be working.

  • App not working since the recent update

Since I updated to the most recent software I have a couple of apps by i-mobilize that will no longer work.  Anyone have a solution?

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Native apps not working on Yosemite

After the Yosemite update virtually none of the native apps on my MacBook launch. ITunes does, but not AppStore, Safari or even 'About this Mac' option works. The icons in the dock bounce once and then nothing happens. Moreover, when trying to reinstall OS using OS X Utilities (command + R when booting) the 'continue' button cannot be clicked. Please, help!

    1.  Do you have a backup of your MacBook Pro?  So you do not lose your applications and data.
    2.  If you have an install CD then your MacBook Pro must be an early 2011 or older machine - is the CD for Snow Leopard?
    3.  If you are going to erase the Macintosh HD you need to use Disk Utilities from the recovery HD partition you get by restarting holding the Command and R keys.
    4.  If that does not permit you to actually choose Disk Utility so you can proceed to erase the HD, then the only option to do that is restart on the Mac OS X install CD that came with the MBP.  Insert the CD and restart and hold the C key, then set the language, and go to Utilities and then Disk Utility and choose the Macintosh HD and then Erase.  After that completes, Quit DU and select Install Mac OS X and reinstall Snow Leopard.  You can then use Software Update to take the system to 10.6.8 if it is a previous version.
At that point you can open the App Store and go to Purchases and do the Yosemite download again.  Or, if you had downloaded a Mac OS X version between Snow Leopard and Yosemite, that version should show up under Purchases and you can redownload and install that version.
So, at this point the real question is what do you prefer to do since your Yosemite does not seem to be working correctly, or allowing you to actually do anything?

I have the same problem when I updated to OS X 10.10 I lost both my USB ports as far as they will not recognize anything that I plug into them.  The power part of the USB seams to work since it will recharge my Striiv Touch but nothing shows up when you connect anything to the ports.
I have tried a number of things from rebooting, trying other usb devices that work on other systems with no problems but will not work on my Macbook Pro.
    Any Help out there?

  • Native apps not working on Yosemite/ Cannot reinstall

After the Yosemite update virtually none of the native apps on my MacBook (mid 2010) launch. ITunes does, but not AppStore, Safari or even 'About this Mac' option. The icons in the dock bounce once and then nothing happens.
Moreover, when trying to reinstall OS using OS X Utilities (command + R when booting) the 'continue' button cannot be clicked: the mouse pointer works ok, but the options in the top left corner like ‘file’, ‘edit’ etc. do not (I can only navigate between the four options by arrow buttons, use ‘ctrl+q’ to quit and that’s just about it). Trying to install OS X from a CD (‘c’ while restarting) I face the same problem, where it lets me choose the language at the beginning but then won’t proceed as the ‘continue’ button does not respond likewise.
Is there any way to restore or reinstall the system? Please, help!

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

If you have to install from scratch, then you must first install Snow Leopard using the Installer disc that came with your computer when it was new:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Preview app not working in 10.10.2

Ever since upgrading to 10.10.2 the Mac Preview app has not been working correctly.  Any file I create in it (a scan, a print-to-PDF, a screen-shot, or the like) cannot be saved.  It gives me a message to the effect that the file cannot be saved because the file does not exist. Meanwhile the file is clearly visible on screen and fully functional otherwise.  There are no write-only issues going on that I can see.  Now today Preview couldn't even create a screen-shot, giving me the message that "Your screenshot could not be saved.  Unable to create screenshot."
Has anyone else had this issue?  And is there a way to remove and reinstall Preview without reinstalling the whole OS?
System details: iMac, 8GB ram, OSX 10.10.2, Preview 8.0 (859.7), 700GB of free disk space.

Thanks for the reply.  Here is the Console data output after trying to save a file.  (Response was the same "File cannot be saved.  File does not exist.")
A couple of things I note in here:
The last line in the output is interesting to me--it refers to a file that I saved (or tried to save) about 2 weeks ago, but that I haven't touched since that time.  Makes me think this file is somehow stuck in a queue somewhere and blocking all subsequent actions.
I should also mention that there's a lot of mention of Dropbox in here.  I use Dropbox, but was not actually trying to save to it with the file just now.
