Preview.app won't start

I recently wiped my harddrive and did a clean install of Leopard. I've installed both updates. Everything seems to be working except:
When I try to start Preview.app the screen dims as if it's starting, then comes back, and the program doesn't start.
I've fixed permissions twice (a lengthy process the first time), deleted both Preview related preference files, logged on as a different user and yet continue to have the same problem.
What should I do now? Thanks.

Apparently, the clean install got corrupted and permeates throughout the installation. An A&I preserves user and network settings, so you don't have to go through the setup process or reinstall anything. What it does do is puts down another OS X, moving the old stuff to the Previous System folder. Rather than continue to try things, it's best to start afresh. Note, after doing the A&I, you'll need to update to 10.5.2 and I recommend you do that manually. Once you square everything away, I strongly suggest getting a bootable, external FireWire HD and use something like Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, Disk Utility, etc. to make a bootable backup/clone of your installation. Check it out, keep it current, and when things get wonky, erase the wonky one and restore the backup/clone.

WinRT app won't start

Hi,
my name is Cristian and I'm working on a WinRT application used in a LOB scenario. The app was deployed to Windows 8.1 PRO machines which are not domain joined and which have valid sideloading keys loaded. After several updates to the app which all
went well, after running the latest one, on a certain machine, the update wasn't visible so I uninstalled the app and tried to install it from scratch. After doing this the app won't start anymore and in the event logs I found this "helpful"
message:
"Activation of the app -full_app_name_here- for the Windows.Launch contract was blocked with error 0x80073CFC because its package is in state: 17."
Can anybody help in pointing me to where I should look to see what the problem might be?

'Notes' App won't start.

My iPhones Notes App won't start.
It starts, then closes on its own.
Tried restore from iTunes backup - but that didnt help.
Any idea please.

I've been fighting with Notes for a few hours
On the side bar ~ On My Mac & all the other notes apps it is automatcally syncing to are listed or email accounts if that is the way it is set to sync in System prefs > Mail. ( the option I use as I only have 4GB a month and little WiFi.)
Make sure you have the On My Mac note folder selected in the first of the three columns... typing or doing anything else in the other synced folders crashes Notes. Apple has a multitude of crash reports from me .. If you get the constant error page do not restart. Close and try again..
If in a real mess Take the Mac Off Line so it stops trying to sync ~ copy the notes to textedit or similar then delete all notes and the system prefs mail option if used. Restart Mac and try again..
Mine is now sorted I wish you the same result

Preview app won't open pdf

Preview app won't open some PDFs. A screen opens that says "Please Wait... If this message isn't replaced with the original content of the file, your PDF viewer may be uncompatable"

Have you gotten those to open yet? If so, how?

Apps won't start after iOS5 upgrade for ipad2

Hi, after upgrading my ipad with the latest iOS. when you clck on any apps..it starts and then minimize..when you double click on the home buttom..you will see the apps there. Please advice.

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
Otherwise have you tried closing all apps completely and then seeing if they work when you re-open them ? From the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

IMovie app. won't start up?

I just purchased app., made my first little movie from video clips on my new iPad mini. Everything was fine but now the app. won't open. Tried turning iPad off but still nothing. All other apps working. Would appreciate any help.

You may want to do a restore from the backup.
Restore from iTune Backup step by step.
1. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
2. You'll be asked twice to confirm
3. You'll see Apple logo and progress bar
4. You'll see a big iPad logo on screen
5. Configuration start
6. Set language
7. Set country
8. Select Network and input Password>Join
9. Enable Location Service>Next
10. You'll be given 3 options (a) Setup as New iPad (b) Restore from iCloud Backup (c) Restore from iTune Backup
11. Select Restore from iTune Backup
12. You will see picture of USB cable pointing towards iPad
13. Connect iPad to iTune (make sure iTune is on standby)
14. Tap Continue (computer)
15. Restore iPad from Backup (computer)
16. See progress bar with estimated time (computer)
17. See Restore in Progress on iPad
18. See Apple logo
19. See Apple and Progress Bar
20. Slide to Unlock
21. Copying Apps back to iPad (computer)
22. You'll see Loading/Installing/Waiting below the Apps (iPad)
23. Sync Music/Podcast/Movies to iPad (computer)
24. Sync completed (computer)

Phone app won't start intermitantly

Hello. So the phone is caught up to the latest firmware, but I'm having intermitant problems where the phone app, the ipod app, and several others occasionally won't start. I lauch them, wait a few seconds on a black screen, and then end up back at the main menu. Try again and it usually works.
So this isn't debilitating, but it is annoying. Anyone have any suggestions for what to do, or any diagnostics I can run? I recently did a full reset/restore as well, but it didn't help either...

Having the same problems with an iPhone 5 64GB updated 10th August to version 3.7.0.
Opening the app instantly crashes the phone to the white apple startup screen.
Tried restarting the phone several times and fault still occurs, so I guess this is a Spotify update fail

Apps won't start after latest update?

I'm on an older 2006 iMac (the one without the black border) and I installed the latest update last night. Now I can't get Firefox, Safari, Mail or apps working properly. When I try to start an app it bounces up and down and then I can't remember what it says but it won't start. Any ideas how to fix this? I'm thinking of downloading Firefox and Safari on my sister's computer and then transferring them via my memory stick.
I also tried a restart. Last night I just shut it down and walked away and figured I'd deal with it when I get home from work today.

I would & always do Repair Permissions Before & after Updates, so I would try the RP ..
Then I would go the SMC route, specific for your model..
If after that you still have "issues" You may need to go the Archive & Install route..

App won't start or crashes immediately. How to reload it?

I have an app (Bento 1.1.5) that won't start on the iPad 1, current iOS (5.0.1). It used to be fine, but no more. It eaither goes into forever start-up mode; the "wheel" keeps turning and it never loads. Or it crashes immediately on start-up. After each problem time I've closed all apps and restarted the iPad. Still no luck. How do I delete Bento and reinstall it from my Mac? Or is there a way to re-download a fresh copy?
I have an idea how to do this, but wanted to ask first rather than screw things up. Thank you for your help.

Deleting Apps...
Touch the app and hold your finger down until all the apps start to jiggle. You will see a circled "x" in the upper left corner. Tap it to delete an app. When done press the Home button.

Software update, now apps won't start?

I just updated the software in my girlfriend's Iphone 3gs, and now the downloaded apps wind up on a separate page, and they won't start up. Their title pages just flash onscreen, then discontinue. No error messages.

It sounds ljke you interrupted an update that was failing. You said it was reinstalling upon reboot? Something's wrong there.
Clone the external drive to the internal.
Use Disk Utility to Restore your external to the internal or download and use CarbonCopyCloner.

Preview app won't print PDFs

Today I tried to print a PDF from the Preview app and it would not allow me to do so. If I selected print from the File menu or put in command+p the print preview box would not appear (e.g. layout, colour matching etc). It was working fine yesterday so I'm not sure what would have caused the problem.
I'm able to print web pages from Safari, so it must be to do with the Preview app...
Any help would be appreciated! If any further information is required please let me know and I will provide it as best as I can.

Thanks for all of the help! I've tried all of your suggestions but unfortunately they weren't successful. After a long time of copying and pasting text and trying to figure out what was wrong, it turns out the paper setting on the computer and printer didn't match the paper size I was using. The printer and computer were set to A4 US legal I think (the default) and the paper size I was using was standard A4.

Preview app won't export or 'save as'

Suddenly it's no longer possible to use the 'export' feature (which used to be 'save as') on preview. It just hangs. I suspect it's trying to save to icloud (which I do not want, but I don't see anyway of making this clear in a preference panel). This is a major problem for me. I don't see any discussions of the built in 'preview' app, so I sure hope somebody here has an idea. Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming.

I don't think there is a cache folder, but there should be a container. Are you sure you looked in your Library and not the "all users" Library at the root of your hard drive?
To open your Library, hold down the option key and select Library from the Go menu in Finder.
Does it work logged into another account?
How about in Safe Mode?
The first will determine if it is only in your account.
The second will determine if some third-party software is interfering.

However, if you don't want to save documents to iCloud, uncheck the Documents & Data checkbox in iCloud System Preferences.

Preview.app quits on start

I am having a problem with preview.app. Whenever I try to open a jpeg or PDF (both file types have preview.app as the default app), apparently the app opens and shuts immediately.
I tried going to Applications and opening the preview.app by itself and I saw the same effect - the app seems to open but immediately shuts down.
I did a repair disk permissions through Disk Utility and tried safe booting and trying to open the app. The app showed the same effect under safe boot too.
What can I do to make preview.app work?

Released App won't start

Hey,
I have a very weird problem here...
I've created an AIR App these Days - everything works fine in Flex Builder. I click the "run" Button and the Application launches.
Now... If I export the Application as an AIR Package and install it weither on Windows or Mac, the Application starts and Appears in the Dock/Task Manager, but the Window won't open.
A friend of mine guessed this could have something to do with the window chrome, but I haven't changed anything on that - it's still declared as standard in the main-app.xml.
I will try out a few things to find the problem. Some of my changes must have caused this, because a few days ago my exported Application worked fine.
Anyway - has anyone a suggestion what could be my mistake?

*Update*
If I set "<visible>true</visible>" in the main-app.xml, the Window opens up, showing the standard Flex App-Loader. The Loading-Bar stuck at around 30%, the Label says "Initializing" and then nothing happens...
