Preview appears in the negative
When I save artwork as a tiff or jpeg, the preview appears in the negative or reversed color. It opens up fine in Photoshop, but why does it not view correctly in my documents as a thumbnail?
Am I saving it incorrectly?
What thumbnail, where?
What application or OS version?

Hi - I just dowloaded io7 to to my mini ipad and now cannot upload the photos on it to my Mac - which I was able to do with the old system, and still can do with my old first generation Ipad. Very annoying. The device appears in the list in Image Capture and Preview, but no photos appear. Is there a way around this? It is the quickest and best way of transferring photos from a mobile device to the computer - but has iOS 7 messed this up???
Hi I have figured it out on my own just today coz what apple suggested didn't help much so I just have to do it by myself.
This is what you need to do:
open your computer and search for autoplay, it will open rightaway and then scroll down look for your device then change "ask everything" to "import photos and videos in windows" connect your ipad again then tthe import box will open.. and your good!

Show font does not appear on the top left of my preview window.

Why are some jpg images scrambled when they appear in my screen saver? The same images look fine in Preview and Finder. Some images appear scrambled in the screen saver 'preview' window and the actual screen saver. Other jpg images look fine.
The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos. However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled. What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

How can I remove the recent pages which appear in the windows 7 screen preview
by the windows 7 screen preview I mean the little preview screen who popup when I right-click the Firefox buttom in the Windows task bar.
I do not ask about the browser History from the browser menu.

PascalYou can disable the Taskbar preview by setting the pref <b>browser.taskbar.previews.enable</b> to false on the about:config page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

I typically have several open Preview files at any one time and often forget where, sometimes if, I saved them. In Mountain Lion, how do I find the location of an open Preview File? Tried holding option + command in spotlight but I don't see a path name appear anywhere.
Yes, cmd-option on a file you choose in Spotlight and the path will appear at the bottom of the Preview window.
EDIT: Also, if it is bookmarked the path is in Bookmarks. -
I am trying to polish an application, and find that I cannot seem to reliably control which of the label or caption text appears in the context help window because I don't understand what rules are in place to determine which should appear. It seems like if I reate a named constant, then use it's right click menu command "Create Indicator" I get a control with only a Label (as long as I don't add a caption). This then appears in the context help window as the label name followed by the description text (after entering some description text). But if I add a caption, the label name is shown in bracket
s which is a 'feature' I would like to avoid, because I have certain controls where I would like to use a descriptive variable name on the block diagram side without using so much space on the front panel. It seems like there is no way to avoid showing the Label name in the context help for a control/indicator. Is this true?
I thought the purpose of having a seperate caption was to make the text that appears with a control programmatically controllable, but if that control is not extended to what appears in the context help window, it limits the usefulness of the caption and forces me to re-consider some Label names. However, the problem goes deeper than that because then even when I make the label and caption exactly the same, or if I delete (via a select caption text-backspace or select caption text- delete key .. sequence) the caption for a control, the label name in the context help window still appears in square brackets!

How to get the iChat Buddy List to automatically appear on the Desktop
On my friends computer iChat is set to launch whenever he logs into his account, but the Buddy List does not appear on his Desktop. So when I see him online there is no green video camera mark next to his name.
If I want to do a screen share with him, I have to ask him to go to the iChat icon towards the right side of the Menubar (the round 'speech ballon') and click on Show AIM Buddy List at the bottom. Once he has the Buddy List on his Desktop, I can screen share with him.
Surely there must be a way for the Buddy List to always appear on the Desktop when logging into his computer... Can anyone help out?Hi,
Interesting one.
If I were telling you how to create this it would be like this:-
1) Go to System Preferences > Accounts > Your account and enter iChat in the Login items. (Makes iChat launch at Computer Start Up)
2) to Hide the Window (Buddy List(s) ) at Start Up click the Red Button to close the Window/Buddy List before Quitting.
This will cause the next Start Up to not show th Buddy List.
How you make the Buddy List appear after that depends on how you bring it in to View.
NOTES:
Some Windows in iChat from Buddy List to the Preferences to th Actual Chat Windows will appear in the places you left them for the most part.
The Exceptions are Incoming Invites.
This means the Buddy List will be were you left it, your Outgoing Invite/Preview whilst waiting for Connection will always be where the last outgoing Video Chat window was.
Using the Red Button on a Open Chat Window will end the Chat (All types).
However doing it to a Buddy List only Hides it.
In addition to this using the Item (or the Keystrokes) from the Window Menu of iChat for a Buddy list when it is On view will Hide it (or Bring it back if Hidden)
The Show AIM option in the Menu Bar icon's drop down is a two edge thing as it shows All Buddies (Available ones) from all AIM Buddy lists if you have more than one (Apple names are also AIM Names in this case).
Does he want to change this Behaviour ?
He would be better off using the iChat Window menu (or Keystrokes) after he has clicked the icon in the Dock to bring the app to the Front so he can access the Menu bar with ichat in it.
He could also click and Hold the icon for iChat in the DOCK and select the Account Name there. This, if I remember correctly, will have the same effect as presenting the Buddy List from the Menu Bar icon (it will be hidden at Next Start Up)

I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any updates to this program in the works. It seems Apple is constantly updating its software, except for Preview. I find it crashes all too often, and also takes forever to "catch up" with me (as in spinning beachball of death) when I'm editing a lrge amount of photos. Yes, I know I should be using Photoshop or somesuch, but it's just too **** confusing, and I don't have the time to figure it out. Thanks!!
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) I still use Aperture 2.1.4. I need to export an image file with a CMYK profile. Whereas a generic CMYK profile is listed in ColorSync Utility, it does not appear on the list of profiles in the edit portion of the export preset dialogue. Help? Is there some way to add the CMYK profile to the list of choices that are available in the export preset dialogue such that I can choose it?

These profiles do not respond to clicking and dragging. Since they are all in one place, more or less, I'm reluctant to make further attempts to relocate them. Accessing the CMYK profile is the first difficult experience I've encountered with this arrangement. I have never needed the CMYK profile until recently, and that need has now past. However, it remains a mystery to me as to why it does not appear with all the others on the menu of export choices in Aperture 2, or on the menu of profile assignment choices in the Preview application (where again all the other profiles are listed as choices). I'm beginning to think my current set up will permit me to view an image that was created in CMYK space, but does not easily assign, or convert to that space. I don't face these restrictions with all the others, so it remains a curious circumstance for me. I anticipate upgrading my computer and software in the near future which might alleviate this issue altogether. Again, many thanks for your attention to this matter. The reach of this community is astounding. -
Preview prints lose the bottom part of the page
Yesterday, after doing an update (which only updated iTunes, so it's probably not what caused the problem), I found that all print jobs from Preview (and a few other programs that I've tried) are missing roughly the bottom 1 cm of the page. I've grovelled through all the settings and preferences that I can find, and I've made various other things change, but no matter what I do, nothing makes the bottom line of text appear on the paper.
Preview shows all the text, including the bottom line, and when I use the "PDF" button to "Open PDF in Preview", it shows the page with the bottom text. But when I print the page, the bottom line is blank.
The printer is remote, controlled by CUPs on a machine down the hall. When I scp a PDF file to the server and print it there, it prints fine, and the bottom lines are always included. Then when I go back to my Macbook Pro and print exactly the same PDF file on the same printer, the bottom line is again missing. This shows that it's not a problem with the printer or the server's CUPS software; it's gotta be something on my Macbook Pro that changed.
The usual disclaimer applies: I haven't (knowingly ;-) changed any print-related setting recently. (We've all heard that one before, right? ;-) Since the problem appeared, I've of course changed lots and lots of settings, trying to find something that affects the problem. But the most recent change before this problem appeared was a couple of months ago (when another upgrade broke all remote printing, and I had to delete all the printers and reinstall them).
A possible clue is that, when I use Safari to load a PDF from http://localhost/..., the page shows as usual, and I get the same drop-down from CMD-P that shows a preview that has the entire page. But when I print it, the entire page is shifted vertically so that the top title line of text is missing - and the bottom line has only its upper half, with the bottom part of all the characters missing. Again, the blank strip at the bottom is roughly 1 cm. Actually, a quick check with a ruler says that it's 12 mm. But I don't know how to use this info, or how to tell Safari to fix the missing title line. The missing bottom half of the bottom line seems to say that it's not that the PDF has something wrong that suppresses the text entirely; it would seem to say that somebody is deciding to impose a 12-mm bottom border for some unknown reason.
Any idea where I should look to fix this problem? Is there a relevant troubleshooting guide somewhere that I should know about?
(It sure would be nice to have a known way to say "Just print exactly what's on the Preview page; don't try to do anything clever with it." ;-)That doesn't sound quite right. Tests on the server shows that the printer (HP L7680) can in fact print up to within 3 mm of its edges. The test pages show this, and assorted tests with "real" PDF pages in the past have verified it. It worked from my Macbook up to a few days ago, and tests from the server show that the printer hasn't lost the ability to print close to the edges. In fact, my wife printed a page from her iMac a while ago, and it showed stuff (images and border lines) up to about 4 mm from the edges. It's only from my Macbook Pro that suddenly the bottom 12 mm gets blanked out.
Actually, I did try a test from the server with the "borderless" setting. The software enlarged the image to be bigger than the page, for some reason that I don't understand, but the result was that the printer printed right up to the very edge of the paper; there was ink visible on the edge of the sheet. So the idea that the printer "can't" print close to the edge is wrong. The printer doesn't have a problem here; it's being told by some software on my Macbook Pro to blank out the bottom edge.
I just tried another test of this: I told Preview on the Macbook to print the page at "Scale: 120% ", and checked "No automatic page scaling". Preview showed the text going off the page at the top and right edge, The ink stopped about 3 mm from the top and right edges. But the bottom 12 mm, including the bottom line of text, was blanked out. This, plus the tests on the server, shows that the printer can print up to 3 mm from the edge of an 8.5x11 inch page. And earlier tests that produced the bottom line with only the top half of the characters shows that it isn't just dropping the bottom line; Something on the Macbook is explicitly blanking out the bottom 12 mm (but not doing the same on the top and right edges.
And whatever is doing it doesn't happen on my wife's iMac; she can print close to the bottom edge.
I'm now wondering if I should uninstall the printer on the Macbook, and see if I can reinstall it to match the iMac's settings. But if the problem is something in the Macbooks system libraries that's forcing the 12-mm bottom margin, that probably won't work, either, and the "Letter" paper size settings presumably come from some library file, because it won't permit me to change those numbers.
Anyway, I'll try your suggestions, probably in the morning, and see what happens.
About the Borderless type: I find that when I try setting the Paper Size to "US Letter", it gives me another menu, with "US Letter" and "Borderless 8.5 x 11 in." entries. If I choose the Borderless, it pops up a window with a warning that this is only allowed for HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, which is in what it's set to. It says it's "not available when Paper Type is set to Plain Paper", which it won't allow me to do. (That choice is greyed out.) It seems odd that it would warn me that it won't work for a setting that it won't let me use anyway, and say that I must use the setting that I am using. Anyway, I've tried this "Borderless 8.1 x 11 in." setting, and it comes out the same as the "US Letter" choice, with the bottom 12 mm blank. Both print to nearly the top and right edge if I set the Scale to 120%.
(And that damned "Automatically rotate each page" is checked again. ;-) -
(urgent) in-app paid issue doesnt appear in the viewer
Despite having followed the iPad Digital Publishing Guide to the letter, the paid version still does not appear in the library of the app. names are published in both the portfolio concerned that in the settings app in Apple's purchase. It is therefore impossible to test the app in its entirety and Apple rejected the app.

Customized viewer interface is available at Enterprise only. Please have a look at excerption from DPS HELP GUIDE - which I highly recommend for all current and prospect DPS customers. That option is not available within VB when you do not have Enterprise account provisioned.

Navigation Toolbar (Enterprise only)
This panel lets you customize the Navigation Toolbar that appears in your custom viewer at the bottom of the library.
Show Navigation Toolbar
Select this option to display the Navigation Toolbar at the bottom of the viewer.
Specify whether the Navigation Toolbar should appear in all views, including folio view, or if it should be hidden when folios are viewed.
Hide Viewer Icon
If Show Navigation Toolbar is selected, you can hide the Viewer icon that appears by default. Tapping the Viewer icon displays the previously viewed folio.
Hide Buy Buttons
Select this option if you want folios to be available for purchase only through a subscription and not through individual purchase.
Hide Sign In Button
Select this option if you want a Sign In button to appear in the upper left corner of the web page that appears when users tap any of the custom icons.
Hide Home Button
If the Navigation Toolbar is displayed, tapping the the Library button does the same thing as the Home button. To avoid this redundancy, you can hide the Home button.
Icon Up State
Click the plus icon on the right side of the panel to create a custom button for the Navigation Toolbar. Specify a 75x43-pixel PNG file to be displayed as the normal button appearance.
When users tap a custom icon, an in-app browser displays the contents of the HTML file you provide, such as a website for a store, a news feed, or help page. Customers can tap a Close button to return to library view. You can specify as many as three custom toolbar buttons.
Icon Down State
Specify a 75x43-pixel PNG file to be displayed when the button is tapped. Make this .png image the same size as the up state image. For example, you can change the image border from black to red.74
Icon Disabled State
Specify a 75x43-pixel PNG file to be displayed when the button is not available, such as during a download. Make this .png image the same size as the up state image. For example, you can display a dimmed version of a shopping cart for a “Store” button.
Icon HTML Resources ZIP
Specify a .zip file containing the assets to be used for the web view that appears when users tap the toolbar button. The .zip file should include a single HTML file and any required image and CSS files. The .zip file should not contain subfolders; all content should be on the same level.
Auto Launch
One of the custom toolbar buttons can be set to Auto Launch. When Auto Launch is turned on, opening the viewer library displays the HTML page automatically.
Show Navigation Controls
Display navigation controls such as a Back button and a Refresh button for the web page.
Note: Click the plus icon on the right side of the Navigation Toolbar panel to add as many as three custom buttons. You can also replace the default Library and Viewer buttons. Click the buttons in the preview bar to switch between buttons.
