Preview can't open jpegs

After installing Leopard, Preview can't open jpegs. They only open in Elements for me. So how do we get Preview to do this again like we used to?

Search the discussion board and you will find that if you changed the metadata information on your jpeg files (ie: used Lightroom), Leopard is unable to open those files regardless of the application you are using (Finder, preview, aperature, iPhoto). Looks like we have to wait for someone to come up with a patch to fix the issue. My guess Apple is going to do nothing about it and we will have to wait for Adobe to resolve the issue. At least in my case, Lightroom is what caused the issue. The photos still work fine in Tiger, but if I try to access them on my Leopard machine it just crashes.

  • Preview can't open JPEG (.jpg) files

Prior to upgrading to OS X Yosemite, I was able to scan pictures on my scanner to JPEGs (file extension .jpg) and open them with Preview. Now Preview says "The file xxxx_xxxx.jpg could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." How do I fix this? Thanks. Mid 2009 13'' MacBook Pro, OS X 10.10, Preview v8.0. My Scanner says its software is current.

I opened a bug report with Apple and received this response:
Engineering has determined that your bug report (18693595) is a duplicate of another issue (18596578) and will be closed.
Since the problem still exists I decided to check on the status of 18596578 and it is closed as well.  Going to reach out to Apple again.

  • I can't open jpegs attached to my email.  What can I do?

I can't open jpegs attached to my email.  Error messages say "The file “CH02_12_07_08_07_06_01.jpg” could not be opened." and "It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."  What can I do?

I'm using Mac Mail as my email client.  I've tried to open it directly from the attachment in the email, and also saving it to my download folder to open seperately.  It will open on a PC with no issue.
Background: The jpg comes from a remote cameral systems I've set up.  Any movement that is detected sends me an email notification and a jpg image of the motion from the camera
I've attached a copy of the jpg file in question.

  • Can not open jpeg

Photoshop can't open jpeg files, ”The file can not be found” is the message I get.
    Solution anyone?

Can you open it in another application (an image viewer like Preview for example)?
On which volume is the image located?
    Can you post the image?

  • Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software

Can not open JPEG files and can not create JPEG files from other software (For example from Solidworks).
When I try to right click on a JPEG, a notice window appears written: "Windows Explorer has stopped working - Windows is
checking for a solution to the problem" and then the notice box disapears, the desktop appears and I can continue working.
From the other side - If I try to save as JPEG a screen of Solidworks (like a view of a part) the Solidworks falls but the JPEG
is created (I can see its name in the directory I created it).
I can open the JPEGS with the Paint software if I want but not with the Windows Photo Viewer.
I have the feeling that the Windows Photo Viewer disapeared from my computer - just a feeling.
    I will appreciate your assistance.

    Hi,
Did Windows Photo Viewer option appear when you right click the JPEG file and select open with?

I have just bought a Panasonic Lumix compact camera. Aperture and Preview can't open the RAW files from this camera. Panasonic recommend downloading 'SYLKPIX Developer Studio SE' to save RAW file formats. How can Aperture and Preview read the files?

Either use 'SYLKPIX Developer Studio SE' to develope the RAW files and to save them in another lossless format like TIFF, or try if Adobe's free DNG Coverter can convert your Lumix RAW files to dng. Then import the dngs. This way, your files will still be RAW files.  This works (most times) for my Lumix FZ28.

No, he said that DW gives him an error message: "Can't open
    JPEG file" and
won't allow him to insert the file.

  • CC can't open jpeg

"Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)."
This is the message I get when trying to open a jpeg downloaded from graphic service.

I have Mavericks and CC. I think it may be a damaged hard drive. It is a 64 gig thumb drive that I keep all my pictures on.

Are you opening them from your computer's hard drive, or across a network?
If from your hard drive, you may have a network issue when downloading, or you may have a damaged hard drive or some other hardware problem.
    What OS?

  • Preview can't open all images in multiple selections...is this a bug?

Note: "Open all files in one window" is selected in Preview preferences.
This used to work fine in Leopard. Not complaining, might be a bug, but just want to verify. When I select multiple jpg images and double click, preview tends to open random number of images each time. all of them simply don't open up. Any idea what could be wrong?

Are any of the jpegs downloaded from the Internet? If so, that is the problem. You'll get two Preview windows, one with, say 3 images, the second window with one. Do it again and you get one window with 4 images and the second window with a different additional one. Repeat. It's due to the Apple quarantine bit being set on downloaded files. Until it is removed by individually opening a jpeg you can't batch open all them. See here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2137399
You can open a batch provided you use the Preview Open dialog box, rather than selecting in the Finder.

  • Can't open Jpeg files in email

I just purchased a Samsung Continum.  I love it but I am unable to open jpeg files in my emails.  Am I missing something?

Just keep in mind, downloading has limitations. The maximum file size for picture / videos/attachments can vary from device to device. The file size limitation is based on the megapixels of the camera on the device. The maximum file size that can be sent from an email to a device is 3 MB. When any message over 350 KB is sent to the device, the file is reduced in size to be under 350 KB prior to delivery. If a device sends a 500 KB file to a device with a lower file size limit the file will be reduced to a file size acceptable by the receiving device.. A message that exceeds the other carrier's limits will be rejected and not reach the intended recipient.
Listed below are steps to download attachments
From a home screen, select Applications.
    Select Gmail.
    Select an email message.
View the email message. If the email message has an attachment (e.g. jpg, gif, bmp, etc.) select one of the following attachment options:
An installed application is required to download or preview some attachment types.
    --Download
Downloads the attachment to the SD card.
    --Preview
Previews the attachment within the viewed email.

  • Preview can't open any pdf file

PDF documents are greyed out in the open menu.
Setting Preview as the "open this document with..." app in the get info window gives the message that "it's not known if this application can open Adobe PDF files"
At the same time, Safari started crashing on being asked to open a PDF file.
I've reinstalled Safari, grabbed Preview from a Time Machine backup from when it worked, reinstalled the developer tools in case they wrote over webkit, trashed all preferences and rebooted. No joy.
I looked at the document types list in Preview's info.plist and the entry for com.adobe.pdf is in there. I've opened an eps file in Preview and saved it as a pdf; I can then open that pdf in Acrobat, but not in Preview (even though it appears in the "recent documents" list.)
    What am I missing?

Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. If not, report back. If so, download and install the 10.6.3 COMBO update. If that doesn't fix the problem, reinstall SL, and if fixed, run Software Update until you're back to 10.6.3. If still no go, run this one-line Terminal command and restart:
*/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user*

  • Can't open jpeg image

I'm using Adobe photoshop 7.0 and usually when I open a jpeg image it just opens but some jpeg images don't open properly. There is this jpeg image that when I try to open it it either displays an error message that it's not the right kind of file or brings up a dialog box as if I'm trying to open a new custom blank page and asks me what size, transparency etc. and no matter what I select it always opens a blank page and I could not actually see the image that's supposed to be there. In any other program it will open normally and display as a normal jpeg image in picture viewer or GIMP image editor but oddly won't open in Adobe Photoshop. I tried to open the same file in GIMP image editor and it opens the file but when I try to save the file, strangely it advises me to export the file before saving it. I believe that the jpeg file may have invisible layers that photoshop can't handle but I could not get rid of the layers properly. I've tried to flatten the image and export the file to a normal jpeg file and delete all invisible layers but even after all this, when I save it as a normal jpeg file and open it again in adobe photoshop it still can't open the file. Does anyone know how I can force the program to display the image and or permanently get rid of the weird layers or markers that has been preventing this file from opening in Adobe Photoshop?

Thank you for your assistance Nancy. Your process almost completely worked. The exception is that when I tried to copy the image from an webpage such as Firefox (I do not have internet explorer), it was not getting through to the Adobe Photoshop clipboard and therefore could not be pasted. However, I simply saved the image from a Firefox window as a different file name and that solved the problem. Now the copied image can be opened in Adobe Photoshop. Thank you for your help.
    sincerely,
    Jon

  • How can I open jpegs in Bridge CS4

Can you guys please tell me how or where the settings are so that I can open jpegs in Bridge CS4.
The settings have changed since CS3 Bridge and I can't find the check box.
    Thanks in anticipation

  • Can't open JPEGs from PC :..(

I just got a macbook pro, and wow, am I in love.
However -- I brought in a few thousand photos from WINXP, and can't open them in iPhoto. The only thing I can see is that the files in iPhoto are JPG, and the files from the PC are JPEG. I thought there wasn't a difference, but there seems to be one. Any advice? Any way to convert en masse?
When I try to open (or import) with iPhoto I get: "Unreadable files: 1 / The following file could not be imported. (The file is in the iPhoto Library folder.)"
I also tried going in and changing the .jpeg to jpg, but it wouldn't let me, even after I changed the ownership & permissions to "read & write."
Any thoughts? I'm so psyched to get started, and so sad to have this delay! Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
iPhoto will not import pictures from the iPhoto Library Folder, move them out of there to the desktop, for instnace and import them from there.
