Preview can't open my bank stat

Can't open my bank stats with Safari or Preview. Phoned the bank and they told me to download Adobe reader. Would like to avoid that. Any hints?
Claude

If you do opt to download Adobe reader do it from the Adobe site - not from any second party including your bank.
Adobe had an issue in 2013 where the Reader would run imbedded code when you opened a PDF.
They announced the fix on their in Spring of 2013.
In October of 2013 Adobe was hacked and the hackers took some source code.
Are you running a virus checker that checks on opening?
It may be the thing that is preventing you from opening the statement - because it has a virus or malware in it - or what seems to be same.
I don't run Adobe reader, or Flash-player.

  • Suddenly my iMac will no longer open PDF files. I am not very good at technical details and sure need help. I can't open my bank statements.

    Can anyone help?

In that case, instead of trying to open the PDF in a web page, right click the link and download the linked file.  At least then you can read it.
I don't know what you may have changed.  It may have been them changing something on their end, not you. You might create a new user on your Mac to test with. If you can read it in Safari from the new user account then you know the problem is something related to your user account. If it doesn't work there it is either nothing you can fix or it is a system-wide problem.

Either use 'SYLKPIX Developer Studio SE' to develope the RAW files and to save them in another lossless format like TIFF, or try if Adobe's free DNG Coverter can convert your Lumix RAW files to dng. Then import the dngs. This way, your files will still be RAW files.  This works (most times) for my Lumix FZ28.

  • Preview can't open jpegs

After installing Leopard, Preview can't open jpegs. They only open in Elements for me. So how do we get Preview to do this again like we used to?

Search the discussion board and you will find that if you changed the metadata information on your jpeg files (ie: used Lightroom), Leopard is unable to open those files regardless of the application you are using (Finder, preview, aperature, iPhoto). Looks like we have to wait for someone to come up with a patch to fix the issue. My guess Apple is going to do nothing about it and we will have to wait for Adobe to resolve the issue. At least in my case, Lightroom is what caused the issue. The photos still work fine in Tiger, but if I try to access them on my Leopard machine it just crashes.

  • Preview can't open all images in multiple selections...is this a bug?

Note: "Open all files in one window" is selected in Preview preferences.
This used to work fine in Leopard. Not complaining, might be a bug, but just want to verify. When I select multiple jpg images and double click, preview tends to open random number of images each time. all of them simply don't open up. Any idea what could be wrong?

Are any of the jpegs downloaded from the Internet? If so, that is the problem. You'll get two Preview windows, one with, say 3 images, the second window with one. Do it again and you get one window with 4 images and the second window with a different additional one. Repeat. It's due to the Apple quarantine bit being set on downloaded files. Until it is removed by individually opening a jpeg you can't batch open all them. See here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2137399
You can open a batch provided you use the Preview Open dialog box, rather than selecting in the Finder.

  • Preview can't open any pdf file

PDF documents are greyed out in the open menu.
Setting Preview as the "open this document with..." app in the get info window gives the message that "it's not known if this application can open Adobe PDF files"
At the same time, Safari started crashing on being asked to open a PDF file.
I've reinstalled Safari, grabbed Preview from a Time Machine backup from when it worked, reinstalled the developer tools in case they wrote over webkit, trashed all preferences and rebooted. No joy.
I looked at the document types list in Preview's info.plist and the entry for com.adobe.pdf is in there. I've opened an eps file in Preview and saved it as a pdf; I can then open that pdf in Acrobat, but not in Preview (even though it appears in the "recent documents" list.)
    What am I missing?

Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. If not, report back. If so, download and install the 10.6.3 COMBO update. If that doesn't fix the problem, reinstall SL, and if fixed, run Software Update until you're back to 10.6.3. If still no go, run this one-line Terminal command and restart:
*/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user*

  • How can I download/save bank statement using iPad to import into Homebudget app?

As subject states safari keeps opening my banks ms money or QIF document within the web browser. Is there another app or a way to get this to work? I'm trying to import the file into my Homebudget app. Please keep in mind I don't own a computer as my iPad is my primary device. I appreciate your help.
    Joe

Sorry about that...it's PSECU. Their app doesn't have a download function for statements. I have to go through the mobile access site via safari to view the download option. They got back to me and misunderstood my question as the reply had steps for direct connect for quicken. The homebudget app I have for my ipad offers direct connect but doesn't have PSECU as an option. That's why I was looking to import my statements into the app. Hope this helps clarify my current dilemma. Thanks again for any replies to try and help me out.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Try another browser.
    I would recommend Firefox.

  • How can I read PDF bank statements with the new version of Firefox?

After downloading the new Firefox, I can no longer see the PDF statements from my bank. What do I need to do to correct this?

You can try this extension to override compatibility issues,
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
Once it is installed, open Addons Manager and re-enable Webroot addon.

  • I can't open my fm station on Firefox; and I can't open my bank account on Firefox, I can do both of these things on my IE, what do I need to do?

I have a bank account with a credit union here in Paradise, Ca and in the beginning about 1.5 years ago I could log on with no problem. Then Firefox told me one day that I couldn't log on so I called the Credit Union and they reset it for me and they have done this a few times but the last time 3 or 4 months ago, they couldn't reset it so that I could have access to my account - nothing, no part of it. So I now open it with Internet Explorer which is a pain because my default browser is Firefox.
Then I also cannot open my King.fm music channel nor the South African fm channel that I like to listen to - but I can open them in IE.
    What is going on?

It sounds like you may have mre than one version of Numbers installed on your Mac. and that the older one is attempting to open these files.
If you were previously using Numbers '09, and upgraded to Numbers 3, the older version will still be on the Mac, enclosed in a folder named iWork '09, found in your Applications folder.
Numbers 3 will also be in the Applications folder, but not enclosed in another folder.
The two versions have different feature sets, and I would caution against removing the earlier version before ensuring that any features you have been using and that you need are supported in Numbers 3. Both versions can coexist on the same machine (and according to reports, can both be running at the same time).
To ensure that you are launching the newer version, make sure you have it's icon on the Dock, and that you use that icon to start the launch. The icons for the two versions are similar—both are vertical bar graphs in 3D format. The difference is in the number of bars—three for Numbers '09 and four for Numbers 3. Once you ahve launched the needed version, use File > Open (or File > Recent items) to locte and open the file.

  • How do I open attachments, bank statements, etc. w/o downloading?

I am unable to open attachment in e-mails (Yahoo) or documents online, I have to download and I am not having any success. I'm not computer literate so please give a simple, east to follow correction to this problem. Thanks

    Are that PDF files?
Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

  • Preview can't open TIFF produced by Kyocera 4550 Workstation

The TIFF output that the Kyocera 4550 workstation produces for scanned documents is not able to be opened in Preview or Pixelmator but it can be viewed in Windows Photo Viewer.
    Here is a sample:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/77775927/Kyocera4550Scan.tif
This seems to indicate a problem with the interpretation of standards.
Can anyone determine if this file is somehow incorrect (ie Kyocera is responsible) or otherwise?

Kyocera have responded to our support ticket on this issue with the suggestion to change a setting:
    >Kyocera is not limited to TIFF compression code 6. It is possible to change TIFF compression level.
    >Go to System menu -> Common Settings -> Function Defaults -> Colour TIFF Compression on the device and change to TTN2
    >When this option is selected TIFF will be created using compression code 7.
Unfortunately, compression code 7 is a form of JPEG which is lossy and there are no other choices available in the Kyocera settings.
Preview on MacOS X 10.8 can open TIFFs with compression code 7, however MacOS X 10.5.8 cannot.

  • Preview can't open any images

    Hi all,
Suddenly Preview doesn't work with any images on my computer (stil works fine with PDF). The Preview window is always like this when I try to open any images:
I had tried to remove all the preference files related to Preview under ~/Library/Preferences/, also used Disk Uitility to repair disk permissions but no luck.
    Can somebody help me? Thanks

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and disable any third party login items. Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.

  • Preview can't open with the first click on a .pdf file

My preview has been acting up. When I double click on a .pdf file Preview starts up but the contents of the file are not displayed. Then when I double click on the file icon again, the file gets opened. Some files never open, but when I restart Preview they open (in the same way as above).
Also, when I select some of the menu items from Preview nothing happens (such as "About Preview".
I reloaded all of OSX 10.4.4, no change, fixed permissions, no change,
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Artur

I did an "archive and keep settings" reinstall, so that I wouldn't lose all my info. Calculating how much time it would be to get back everything I had (configs, files, programs...) I would rather have a bad Preview than go through an erase and install...
