Preview crashes whenever I try to save a change
I am getting sick and tired of this--I have religiously sent in the so-called "reports" to apple every time this happens. No sign of a fix. I have had Leopard a couple of months now, and I used to use (pre leopard) preview for making all kinds of image modifications. Now I have to use photoshop and/or lightroom, which are very complicated. I actually preferred to use preview, but I can't anymore, and from what I have read, no one can.
When is apple going to fix this?
Ya, my MacBook was working fine for a while and now is doing exactly the same! At the same time this happened Google Earth started crashing every time I run it! This is NOT cool. Apple should put their money where their mouth is and take these complaints seriously.
I was an M$ user for over 25 years, and finally went Mac two years ago. For the most part I am happy, but Macs still have many, many issues, and in many ways more clumsy to use than Win XP. I'm just about ready do dump them all and go to Linux Mint, or PC-BSD.

I installed PSE 13 three weeks ago. It worked well for a while, then started to crash whenever I tried to save a file for the web. I trashed the preferences. That didn't seem to help. PSE 11 still works well on my Mac, so I think it's a software problem. I also ran the permissions repair on Disk Utility. I have Yosemite on a MacBook Pro with 4 GB of RAM.
I've not used Keynote 5.3 in OS 10.7.5 in quite some time, but I do know that in more current OS versions there is a Saved Application State folder in the Username/Library folder which can get corrupted/ messed up when an application crashes. The User Library folder, as I recall, is hidden in the Finder, but accessible by pressing and holding the Option key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder.
"com.apple.Keynote.savedState" is the folder, or perhaps file, you want to find and delete- making sure Keynote is not open at that time, which if it can't start without crashing will not be a problem.
This is a "trick" I've used with other applications that got stuck in a loop of trying to restore a pre-crash state, and obviously couldn't start as that state led to the crash. I do not see that savedState file for Keynote on my 10.9 computer, but that is where I would look.

Photoshop CS5 crashes whenever I try to save a file
Recently, my graphics card stopped working, so I've been forced to use an onboard GPU until I can get the money to buy a new one. The problem though, is that the onboard GPU is VERY old (approximately 6 or so years), and every time I try to save something in photoshop CS5, the program crashes without even giving me an error message. How do I fix this? Does the graphics card even have anything to do with it? I'm using Windows XP by the way.
I found an "error" entry in the Event Viewer that mentions Photoshop, but no "warning" ones. Here's what the error entry says:

Mavericks freezes whenever I try to save a document with a new tag
I just started having a problem (or at least I think it is new) whenever I try to save a document with a new tag. With the exception of OmniOutliner, every program I've tried either freezes and I need to force-quit (Preview, Byword, Circus Pony Notebooks) or crashes (anything in Office 2011). I recently purchased Default Folder X (as part of the Mac productivity bundle), but I turned it off, I tried saving the file to a different location, and I tried rebooting. Still, the problem occurs. This occurs on two different machines (2013 Macbook Air and 2011 Macbook Pro).
As I said, this problem only occurs if I try to save and create a new tag. If I just save without creating a new tag, or if I save the document and add a pre-existing tag, it saves without any problems. And what's really puzzling to me at least is that Omnioutliner saves a new tag without difficulties. Any suggestions?Given what you wrote,
it's not a Pages problem but a System's one.

Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

Microsoft Excel 2011This may be a red herring, but there have been many threads on here where some iMac's with 16gb of RAM have started to play up - kernel panics, random shutdowns spring to mind. Have you added RAM recently?
The solution has been to either replace the RAM with chips from particular manufacturers. The workround is to drop down to 12gb RAM.
As I say, this may not be the solution but I thought it worth a mention. -
Keynote crashes whenever I try to open a file.
Keynote crashed while I was working, and now crashes whenever I try to open a file. I looked for a preference file to delete (in case it's corrupt), but there is no keynote prefernce file in the preference folder. I couldn't find a keynote cache file either. Is there a way to search for those files?

The User Library folder, as I recall, is hidden in the Finder, but accessible by pressing and holding the Option key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder.
"com.apple.Keynote.savedState" is the folder, or perhaps file, you want to find and delete- making sure Keynote is not open at that time, which if it can't start without crashing will not be a problem.
This is a "trick" I've used with other applications that got stuck in a loop of trying to restore a pre-crash state, and obviously couldn't start as that state led to the crash. I do not see that savedState file for Keynote on my 10.9 computer, but that is where I would look.

My4th gen ipod touch safari crashes whenever I try to go on. Could someone help or offer advice?

Whenever I try to save a file as a PDF, it tells me that it can't save, because the file is open somewhere else. I don't have anything else open. I have also tried different files and they all say the same thing. Help.
Given there are so many problems and removed features in Pages 5, why not just continue using Pages '09?

My Instagram app on my iPhone 4s keeps crashing whenever i try to open it. I want to delete it then download it again but it said that doing so would delete all of it's data. Does that mean I'll lose all of my pictures?
I have this excact problem too, Deleting the the app and then reinstalling it won't delete your photos as they are stored on facebooks servers. You will just have to remember you username and password to sign in again. Ever since Facbook bought instagram i have had this problem on my 4S too.

Whenever you try to save a PDF file to a location other than the default location ('My Documents'), Firefox freezes & you have to go to the 'Task Manager' to exit Firefox and stop the error. I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?

If the crashing happens when placing from/saving to new location with Yosemite, you maybe able to get round it by using the Adobe Dialog instead of the OS Dialog in the Place window (similarly for Save As in the Save As window).
If crashing happens when moving objects, the issue may be caused by the Chrome Pushbullet extension, see this post #3 by Matt with the solution,

Or, when issues start to appear in general you may try the list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file. HELP!!!

Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.

If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.

If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
- You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
- Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
- Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
- Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

Photoshop crashes whenever I try to alter the order of my layers
After updating my macbook pro to OS x 10.9, my photoshop now keeps crashing whenever I try to alter the order of my layers. My photoshop works like normal on my iMac and I have not had any problems. I use photoshop everyday for work but have never experienced this problem before, help would be greatly appreciated as it it is starting to drive me crazy. Thank you.
