Preview crashing with large photos on iMac 5K

Not sure if this is a Yosemite Beta (10.10.3 - 14D105g) problem, or if it's the base model iMac 5K, but when I try and view these 'High resolution comparisons: Canon 5DS R vs the world' that I downloaded, either Preview crashes or my machine reboots. It only happens with the photos I've physically downloaded; if I just open and view them in Safari it seems fine? Specifically, the Canon photos seem to make Preview crash, and the large Pentax photo makes the machine reboot. I wonder if anyone else with a similar setup could give this a try and see if it's the same.

I have the same problem on a non-retina late 2013 27inch iMac, a fairly instant Kernel Panic on opening a large JPEG with 10.10.3's Preview.
The crash first appeared on a 7482 x 7447 22MB JPEG created as a 1600dpi scan of a CD cover. A PNG of the same thing was OK as was a smaller JPEG scan at 1200dpi.
Setting "Size on screen equals size in printout" in Preview's Images Preferences evades the problem here.
Size isn't the only issue on my iMac, not all large JPEGs cause the Kernel Panic.
I started a thread in the Yosemite forum, https://discussions.apple.com/message/28040899?ac_cid=op123456#28040899

i met this error every time if i compile a "BIG " project.(with 1G+  image resources).   And also ,if you  import 500+ images into Flash CS ...you  know ,its prefix is  "Adobe".
i guess , it's  because somebody not like "BIG " thing.
So..on  32bit windows  platform ..i  upgrade my JVM to  1.7 ,and..modified  -XSS value . it will help us ..but not 100% resolved.
Finally ,i upgrade to  64bit platform ..this problem seems  gone.
I think ,it's  because of the bad RAM Manager  of  JVM. on 32bit windows machine .it's only can manager 1024M ram .(such a stupid VM).   And  on 64bit platform ..JVM seems  to be d normal.

  • Preview Crash on Large .pdf Files

I am trying to view a 500k pdf in Preview. Every time I try, Preview crashes. It does the same thing whether I try to download and read it in Safari or Firefox from the original website or try to open the downloaded file and read it from the desktop.
Is there a file size limitation in Preview?
Are there other programs that might work instead of Acrobat Reader? I am trying not to (re)install Reader because of possible conflict with another program I use (RapidWeaver).
The file opens fine on my G5 with Reader, but will not open on either of my Intel Macs in Preview.

    Carolyn:
Thanks, but that doesn't seem to help. I did both, but the problem recurrs.
I'm back to thinking it's file size, or just this file. I just created a one-page security password protected document in Acrobat (one that may be read and printed but not copied). It opened fine in Preview. When I tried to copy some of the content, I got a Preview dialog that prompted me for the password. Once entered, content extraction also went fine.
The large document in question also opens fine in
--Acrobat on my G5 running 10.4
--Acrobat on a Dell running XP Home
--Acrobat in XP Home running on my iMac through Fusion.
This file just doesn't like Preview, either on my two Intel Macs running 10.5 or my G5 running 10.4

  • Screen Saver with large photo album

I love the new options for using my photo albums as screensavers in Mountain Lion but I've noticed a particularly annoying bug...  I have a very large album (2,000+ photos) that I have been adding my favorite memories to for many years which makes a great screensaver/slideshow.  After updating to OS 10.8 I've noticed that photos seem to repeat, a LOT.  I keep it set to random but with this many photos I should not expect to see the same photo 10 times over 10 minutes...  Any thoughts?

I've encountered the same problem on different machines with Mountain Lion installed (iMacs and Mac Pro). To whoever I'm showing off my photos (300+ per event or folder) with the new slideshow themes in the screensaver options, they recognize after two minutes that there are photos repeating all the time.
I've counted and the following pattern turns out: after just 15 randomly picked images it shows the first 5 images of the slideshow again. Then 15 random and then again the same 5 first images and so on.
So, what the people remember after seeing the slideshow is just these five images, because they are displayed over and over again! Thats a really annoying bug.

  • CS4 (PS 11) constant crashes with larger files -

I am encountering persistent program crashes with Photoshop 11 (CS4) when I have multiple layers (four or more) and the file size exceeds 75 mb. The error message that Photoshop has encountered a problem and is closing appears without further details. When I reopen PS, I then get the message about "Photoshop encountering a problem with the display driver and disabled GPU enhancement" despite the fact that I previously unchecked enable OpenGL drawing in the preferences-performance tab. It is blank on that tab after "Detected Video Card" whereas in CS3, it correctly notes the following video card. My video card is nVidia GeForce 7600 GT with the latest driver dated 10/07/08.I have 4 GB of RAM, however in the performance tab of preferences it notes 1.633 GB AM available and Photoshop using 960 mb. I also have CS3 (PS10) and do not encounter the same problem. The OS is Vista.

Please search the various threads in this forum pertaining to OpenGL issues. Updating to the latest driver 178.24 is inevitable. Also check for the "Old GPU" enabling registry hack. The prefs only get saved on program exit, so it's natural the old options are in place after a crash. Disable OpenGL, exit the program, relaunch it and only then start working with it.

  • Photogene App crashes with some photos with iOS 8 update, not others when in edit

SInce the iOS 8 update some when I select a photograph or when scrolling pictures in an Album, the App crashes.  This never happened before this new upgrade.  I've used it for months.  Any help appreciate.  With certain pictures, no problem.  I make personal cards for printing and this app has been great until now.  I go into one album, scroll, select a photograph p, work in it, no proble.  I move to another Album, and whil scrolling it crashes, repeatedly..  This app replaced the iPhoto App as that one was multiplying pictures like rabbits and alleged fixes and visits to the Apple Store did not solve the problem.  The Appke Store personnell were great but no one could fix that issue.  I deleted it.  Many, many others everywhere had that similar problem.  Any help with this crashing problem is appreciated.

Thank you, Ralph,  for your reply.  I'm a practical person so I tried trial and error.  It was recents ans larger Albums that the Photogene crashed.  I could make a card from my smaller Albums.  So I transferred a few photos from the ones that crashed to the successful Album(s).  I could edit, put Text, save, export to my library, e-mail and post on FaceBoo.  That worked for me.  A round about way, but it works.  Again, thanks.

  • IPad airplay crashes with large video library

Is anyone else having issues with airplay and the Video app on the iPad? I have 2 apple TV's and an iPhone 3gs where airplay via home sharing works great for video. On my iPad 2 however using the video app it crashes every time I try to browse in my TV shows. I will give you the fact that I have a huge library but it does work on my 3gs which is the lesser of all my devices.

OK, I may have an idea here. I just updated the software on my Apple TV and now it can't read my library. It just says there are no music/movies.
One thing that's a little fishy is that my library on my iMac doesn't have an "iTunes Music Library.xml" in the iTunes folder. From what I've read, this file is paramount to third party apps collecting information about the iTunes Library. My thoughts are that the Apple TV update changed the way it reads the Library and now requires the XML file instead of just the regular native file. This might be the reason that AirVideo is unable to read my playlists as well. I use AirVideo by pointing it to my media folders.
So I thought I would just do the "File > Library > Export Library" to get a new XML file and rebuild my Library. It looks like it's working but then no file results.
The only other option I can think of is to start from scratch again. I should mention, I do have a very large library of Movies and Music, almost 1TB and it is stored on an external drive. Sadly, my 100 playlists will have to be rebuilt manually
    Things that work:
Remote App to Airport Express speakers
    Things that don't work:
    Apple TV reading playlists
iPad reading Movie or Music playlists
iPhone 3GS reading Music playlists (didn't try movies)
    AirVideo reading playlists

  • Iphoto/preview crashing with multiple user accounts

    Hi everybody,
I'm stuck for a while now with my iMac and parental controlled user accounts.
It's for a few months now iPhoto and Preview keep crashing at starting up in these other accounts.
All works fine in my own administrator account. I'll copy a the first part of the crash state, maybe that will help.
I think the problem started with connecting a photocamera (Sony W125) directly to the computer.
It seems that viewing pictures (PDF/iphoto) is corrupted in this way.
    I'm working on an late 2011 iMac 2,5 Ghz Intel Core i5 /12GB 1333 / OSX 10.7.5
    Allready done:
    removed plists
    repaired permissions
    re-installed Lion
    re-installed iPhoto
give full permissions too all other accounts (checking out parental control i.o.w.)
made a new user acount with full permissions except administrator function (also crashes of iPhoto)
tried some searching in Root-account but where afraid to damage stuff.
looked around on the web but I couldn't find people with the same problem
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

After searching the web and the discussion here, here's my minimal impact solution for multiple Macs with multiple users in a household:
    1) Set up Mac1 for myself only
    2) Set up Mac2 for the wife and kid
    3) Set up each Mac to backup to the Airport base station using Time Machine (this would create two separate backups on the Airport base station's drive, which from what I've read has its own problems)
    4) On Mac1 setup "empty user accounts" for the wife and kid. These will not have any files in them - just an access mechanism. If they want to access their files, they can use Time Machine's "The Browse Other Backup Disks Option" to get their file from Mac2, work on it and then drop it in the Shared Folder. Next time they are on Mac2, remember to copy the updated/created file from the Shared Folder into their Mac2 user account. If possible, get Time Machine to not backup the "empty user accounts".
    5) Do the same for me on Mac2.
Not the most elegant solution, but until Apple get off their backside and make this seamless, I can't think of anything else :-( .
P.S. iCloud is not a soluton since it costs hundreds of dollars a year, uses up intenet data allowance and is slow.

  • [BUG] Flash plug-in crash with large images, sometimes

    Hello,
I've been working with using Pixel Bender shaders in Flash and have encountered plugin / browser crashes when using shaders on large images, but only on certain machines.
I've been unable to reproduce the crash on any machine I have physical access to, but was able to determine that it was caused by executing a shader on an image over 1028x1028 in size.  I created a test Flash file (http://www.saltgames.com/?page_id=283) that runs a simple shader on gradually increasing image sizes.  On most machines it will run fine, but on a few the Flash plugin (and possibly browser too, depending on the broswer) will lock up once it tries to render the 1500x1500 sized image.
One user reported that although it crashed when using Firefox or Chrome, in Internet Explorer on the same machine it was fine.  I haven't been able to see a common feature in the set-ups that suffer this crash.
I had approximately 50 people test a Flash game that featured shaders operating on large images, and 4 reported a crash.  Changing it to only run shaders on smaller image sizes seems to have fixed the crashes.

  • Mail app crashes with large mailbox (25k+ messages)

When connected to an exchange account, large mailboxes, whether split across multiple folders or all in the inbox, cause the mail app to crash occasionally. Nothing is lost, but it is not behavior I am comfortable with and I want to know if there is a known fix for this issue (aside from the obvious "reduce the number of messages" answer).
    Thanks!

I found this thread and though thank god I am not the only person with this problem.
My .mac Account works fine. However my Demon Account which has worked fine bombs out within seconds. It was working fine for the first week until this evening.
I have done a reset as discribed,
I have deleted the demon mail account on the phone and done a reset. reset up the Demon account and still get the same problem.
Then Tried; deleted the Demon mail account on the phone and done a reset, turned the phone off completely, Done an iTunes Restore, turn the phone off and back on again and then re-entered the account details.
Still have the same problems. I can't remove the stuff of the email server because I need to keep stuff there.
    Can anyone offer some advice?

  • SQL Adapter Crashes with large XML set returned by SQL stored procedure

Hello everyone. I'm running BizTalk Server 2009 32 bit on Windows Server 2008 R2 with 8 GB of memory.
I have a Receive Port with the Transport Type being SQL and the Receive Pipeline being XML Receive.
I have a Send Port which processes the XML from this Receive Port and creates an HIPAA 834 file.
Once a large file is created (approximately 1.6 GB in XML format, 32 MB in EDI form), a second file 1.7 GB fails to create.
I get the following error in the Event Viewer:
    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: BizTalk Server 2009
    Event Category: (1)
    Event ID: 5740
    Date:  10/28/2014
    Time:  7:15:31 PM
    User:  N/A
The adapter "SQL" raised an error message. Details "HRESULT="0x80004005" Description="Unspecified error"
Is there a way to change some BizTalk server settings to help in the processing of this large XML set without the SQL adapter crashing?
    Paul

Could you check Sql Profiler to trace or determine if you are facing deadlock?
Is your Adapter running under 64 bits?
Have you studied the possibility of using SqlBulkInser Adapter?

  • OS X 10.5 Leopard preview crashes with LR pics

I just found out that some pics can cause the preview application in Leopard to crash!
It is not clear in the moment whether to blame Apple or Adobe because the error only occurs with pics touched in LR1.2 but the same pics work well with other application and in Windows XP
To see for yourself just download the picture from
    http://bluebe.de/images/0709_185.jpg
and try to open it with preview
Or put it into a folder with other pictures and then try to use the finder in cover flow to see it. It will cause the finder to crash if you navigate to the pic and press space bar to get to the preview.

I would not install an OS that cannot run your existing software that is critical to you.

  • Ni reports crashes with large amounts of data

I'm using labview 6.02 and am using some of the Ni reports tools to generate a report. I create, what can be, a large data array which is then sent to the "append table to report" vi and printed. The program works fine, although it is slow, as long as the data that I send to the "append table to report" vi is less than about 30kb. If the amount of data is too large Labview terminates execution with no error code or message displayed. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Does anyone know what is going on or better yet how to fix it?

    Hello,
I was able to print a 100x100 element array of 5-character strings (~50 kB of data) without receiving a crash or error message. However, it did take a LONG time...about 15 minutes for the VI to run, and another 10 minutes for the printer to start printing. This makes sense, because 100x100 elements is a gigantic amount of data to send into the NI-Reports ActiveX object that is used for printing. You may want to consider breaking up your data into smaller arrays and printing those individually, instead of trying to print the giant array at once.
I hope these suggestions help you out. Good luck with your application, and have a pleasant day.
