Preview/Crop Updates in Grid view

Due to the performance hit, I have the auto update XMP feature turned off.
I recently imported a batch of 400+ photos and made changes to white
balance, cropping and other settings. The images are DNG files. Every time I
switch back to the folder containing these images LR takes a while to read
and update the previews in grid mode to match the changes I have made. This
is slowing me down.
I have tried selecting all the photos and instructing LR to update the XMP
data, but it doesn't appear to work. Is there another setting or something
that I am missing?
Thanks

I have the same issue. I thought 1.2 had solved the slowww Grid mode preview creation until I went back to a folder of roughly 400 images and worked on them in Develop, cropping many and color balancing all. Now, back in Grid, my preview thumbnails are low, low res. I optimized the catalog, came back and selected all and told LR to render standard previews. That was roughly three minutes ago and the progress bar is about 1/10th complete. Even when the Rendering Standard Previews progess bar shows an image finished, the image thumbnail is not sharpened. Each image appears to be taking several minutes, but the progress bar may not be accurate. It has been 7 minutes so far and very little progress has occurred. This is on a Mac Pro with 8gigs of RAM and 4 internal hd's, none of which are overly full.
I left LR 1.1 because of this kind of behavior.
I really like LR but this slow behavior makes it unworkable.

  • Movie thumbnail previews in Coverflow and Grid view...not there

I'm using Snow Leopard and have both QT-X and QT 7 Pro on my MacBook Pro.
In Finder, I have a folder containing several movie types including mpeg, avi, mov, qt, m4v, mp4, flv and wmv
I've noticed that I don't see thumbnail previews for any of these movies and wondered if anybody else can see their thumbnails, either in Grid View or Coverflow
In 3-column view, the thumbail appears once the file is highlighted.
In iTunes, the thumbnail also appears (for those that can be added to the Library)
I also have the latest Perian and Flip4Mac apps installed.
I've tried re-launching Finder after deleting the com.apple.quicklook.plist file
    Thanks

I also tried this (deleting the Quicklook cache) and no luck, still the same issue.
I did a clean installation and this works
However, I did again the installation and imported my USER profile in FULL via the assistant when you first configured Snow Leopard (using an FULL BACKUP copy and/or Time Machine Backup) and then problem reappears
I have reinstalled DivX, Desinstalled RealPlayer deinstalled Perian and still the same issue. I cannot see the Thumbnails or the Cover Flow of the video/movie file such MPG, MPG, AVI, WMV but it works for MP4 I have for my IPod
I finally gave up and left this last installation and I did not have the energy to migrate my data, emails, settngs, etc manually.
By the way, the upgrade from Leopard 10.5.8 towards Snow Leopard 10.6 was smooth but the performance was awful specially after installing 10.6.1. With the upgrade I had the same issue with my USER account or with any, NO THUMBSNAILs for most of my videos enough though they are played correctly in Quicktime and Quicklook....
    Any help????

  • Previews not loading in grid view (stacks) 10.6.3

Hi, I am having a rather odd bug with stacks: everything works just dandy (previews load) unless I look at a certain folder. If I navigate to the folder (in stack view) it will load maybe 80% of the item previews and then just stop (it loads different ones each time). After I have done this, no preview for anything will load other than folder icons (in stacks, that is), unless I log-out log-in or restart. I have tested this many times, and it is consistent. Cover flow still works, even after stack previews have stopped appearing. An annoyance really, but I still would like to fix it if possible, so thanks in advance for any ideas.

That's the point to where I was getting - without icon previews, the default icon for .m4v files should be the following:
(This was just taken from my wife's MacBook Pro, still on iTunes 10.6.2 but running Snow Leopard 10.6.8)
Under Lion (10.7.4) and iTunes 10.6.3, the default icon (no previews) is empty white, which I do not believe should be - I had the above generic icon for .m4v files in Lion under 10.6.2.
Yet iTunes-associated audio files are fine: (from my iMac)
    Strange, isn't it??

  • Previews in grid view

I installed LR 1.0, and imported photos from Photoshop Elements 5.0.2. The previews in grid view (both normal and extended cells) are updating every time I scroll the view, or start LR. It mean that first I see preview with ugly (pixelated) quality, after 2-5 seconds in better quality, and after that in god quality. When I scroll the grid down and up to see the photo, it updates. And it takes some time, especially when I have a lots of photos.
    How can it be solved?
WinXP, 768mb RAM, ~7000 photos in library, in PSE it works fine
    Thank you

    Pierre,
Your suggestion probably right in general, but costs money and will not help in this particular case.
    Described behaviour is "by design".
All we can do - is to ask Adobe again and again to implement caching and storing of high-quality thumbnails on-the-fly, as other DAMs do.

  • My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.

My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.

The dark bar is caused by the option "Show metadata below image".
Check the settings for the metadata overlays in Grid view (basic and expanded) by clicking the little "badge" icon below the Browser and selecting "Edit". Is the filename still enabled in the list? And in a high enough position to have precedence for other metadata tags, if the space does not suffice to show all selected tags?

  • How do I show and/or update image info in the Grid view?

Somehow, all the info that was showing in my grid view, in Lightroom 5.6, disappeared. How do I view info for each grid image, on the grid and how do I update or change what info is viewable?

  • Update messed up grid view

I updated iTunes a day or two ago, and I've been using the grid view since it came out and had no problems, but now that I updated, whenever I enter anything in the search bar it goes to list view for some reason. To make matters worse when I tried to adjust to this change and would play music from the list view, it would start playing music that wasn't anywhere on the screen or even have any of the words I searched.
So basically searching in grid view changes to list view, which is annoying, and it doesn't even stick to playing just what came up when I searched (when the album finishes it's last song it moves on to whatever song is after that in my overall list of songs).
Is there a way to correct this or should I start looking for ways to downgrade until this is fixed?

Yep, same problem here --- VERY VERY annoying. Hope this is a bug that will be fixed and not some new "functionality" that apple has decided to implement. I would like to downgrade to 8.0, but don't think this is possible once the library files have been updated.
When is itunes going to let you multi-select folders to add to the library too!!
    Paul.

  • Mass update of Title in grid view not working

I am currently using Lightroom 5.6.  Previously I was able to select multiple photos in grid view in the LIbrary module and change all of the photo titles to the same title.  Now this procedure does not seem to work.  It changes the title of only the first photo in the selection.
Please suggest a procedure to accomplish this.

Make sure Metadata > Show Metadata For Target Photo Only is unchecked.

  • LR1 slow to display clear thumbnails in grid view

    I'm still using LR1 (1.4.1)
    My setup:
    -quadcore Intel, @2.8 Ghz
    -Vista x64 SP1
    -8GB ram
    -LR install on OS disk
-system page file, and LR catalog and previews installed on a raid0 (stripe) pair of disks
-Photos themselves on yet another disk
    -All disks are SATA2
-Selected all photos in the catalog, and saved metadata
-The write xmp on change flag is unchecked
    -I optimized my catalog
-I removed the previews directory, selected all photos in the catalog (16K) and did a generate 1:1 preview (2048 pixel, high quality, never delete them), and I also did a generate standard previews as well.
-I turned off Vista indexing of the previews directory and the photos directory
-I don't have a dedicated Virus scanner running
    Work flow:
I chose a day's worth of photos from the navigator on the left, and set a keyword in the keyword "spraycan". I start scrolling (with the mouse wheel) down through the grid.
    Issue:
right off the bat it takes about 2 seconds or so for the thumbnails to become clear - they start off quite pixelated. I start "spraying" photos with my keyword. I scroll down to the next page full of thumbnails. It takes another 2 sometimes a bit more seconds before I can see what's in the thumbnails (until they sharpen). It doesn't sound like a big deal, but when I have a lot of keywords to add, I really want to be able to scan quickly through the patch of photos and quickly tag them. That 2 seconds each time I scroll really starts to drag.
I with that LR would be able to in the backround sharpen the thumbnails in the Grid, so that when I scroll they are ready for me. Or perhaps I'm missing something with my optimization or configuration?
    Thanks for listening,
    Damon

iTunes will need to load all of your artwork when using cover flow and grid view. There IS a cache folder in the Album Artwork folder of iTunes, but i don't know how effective that is.
However, if you are running a version earlier than 9.2, iTunes 9.2 runs cover flow and grid view A LOT faster than previous versions, since what it does is create thumbnail versions of your images for those views only, making those views operate a heck of a lot quicker.
I know 9.2 still has some bugs and some people may advise against it, but if you really want to see a boost of performance with grid view I'd recommend updating if you haven't already. Besides, for any bugs there, Apple will probably release fixes for them shortly.

  • Slow-to-load album covers in Grid View

I've encountered a problem for a while that I thought I might bring up...
Whenever I start iTunes, it defaults to Grid View, the only view I use when browsing iTunes. Now, I'm unsure if iTunes caches album art or not, but every time I boot it up and scroll down, all of my albums appear artless for half a second before slowly applying the album art. This makes scrolling down incredibly slow and clunky.
Once I fully scroll down, I can scroll smoothly all I want, but if I close iTunes, everything is clunky again. Any tips? Does iTunes not cache album art?

  • File name not showing in grid view

I just upgraded to LR 5.4 and I noticed that now when I am in grid view, only the capture date and dimensions show on the image when I run my cursor over it. I used to get a quick pop-up with the file name, capture date & dimensions, so I can quickly see where I am in my numbering system. I have looked at the preferences and also in view, but it is not apparent to me where it went, plus I know I didn't change anything, intentionally.
BTW, I also upgraded to Mavericks OS on my iMac, but I hope that is not what is wrong. I know Adobe put out a bunch of "patches" for Bridge, etc. but I have already downloaded and updated all that.

When you are in Library module/Grid mode, the text that appears in the hovering action is controlled by the Info Overlay. The Info Overlay has three states: Off, Info 1 and Info 2.
Go to View>Loupe Overlay and put a check mark next to the Overlay you wish to be active and your hovering enabled text will change to match that text.

  • Rating / Label "Buttons" active, although not shown in Grid View

While I was investigating the reason for JPEG images being written back with no obvious changes applied to them (see also How to filter on Metadata Status "Has been changed"?) I noticed something I think is a bug:
Becaus it sometimes happened to me that I unintentially changed the rating for a picture because I wanted to click into the frame of an image to select it as the only image, I have set my Library View Options as follows for Compact Cell Extras (for a better description also see Grid View: Flags, Rating, Color Label read only? / Mark Images Read only?):
    Index Number checked
Top Label checked with File Name
    Rotation unchecked
Bottom Label unchecked with Rating and Label
Now, if I click into the area, where rating or color label would show (if shown), the rating of the images changes. So I am clicking on an option I don't even see ...
This was one of the reasons, why metadata in pictures sometimes  would get updated without me knowing why. Anybody else who has experienced this behaviour?

P.S: My workaround now is to have Common Photo Settings shown in the bottom label.

Yes it's a bug. I see it on Mac platform.

  • All episodes don't show up in Grid view

I've got 20 seasons of Top Gear all converted and waiting to be added to iTunes. They exist on my external HD, so when I drag them in to iTunes I hold in Alt/Option, so they stay there.
If I drag in the folders for seasons 1 through 13, all episodes show up, and if I select the show in iTunes I see "tabs/buttons" for Season 1, Season 2, etc etc.  Pic here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2213114/2013-08-23_18-05-00.jpg
However if I drag season 1 through 14 (or more), only season 1 shows up in iTunes grid view.  However all episodes/season show up in List view, and all are available on my Apple TV.
If I drag just, say, season 14 through 20, they add fine.  But if I then add 1 through 13, again only 1 season shows in Grid view.
In all cases the correct number of "New" episodes shows on the blue banner on the cover (i.e "99+").
Top Gear generally has about 6 to 10 episodes per season.
I have exactly the same problem with The Simpsons.
All my other shows added fine.  Just The Simpsons and Top Gear had issues.  I doubt it's a co-incidence those are the only 2 shows I have with hundreds of episodes and 20+ seasons each.  It's almost as if iTunes has some kind of limit…

Your website has a link to a feed at
    http://feeds2.feedburner.com/CrossCultureCalvaryChapelPodcast?format=xml
This feed contains the itunes:new-feed-url tag, forwarding to a feed at
    http://calvarychapel.nl/index.php?option=comsermonspeaker&task=podcast&feed=RSS2.0&nohtml=1
This latter feed is what is being used when you click on the 'subscribe' button in the iTunes Store, and the result matches the feed. (The list you have under 'Podcasts' in your own iTunes application probably includes earlier episodes: removing them from the feed doesn't remove them once downloaded, but the removed episodes don't show for new subscribers).
However, the iTunes Store page lists 114 episodes, the last being 28-3-09, thus not showing later additions, and shows earlier episodes present in neither feed. Therefore the page has the correct feed link for subscribers but itself has not updated since March - since when you have changed the URL and deleted earlier episodes. Why this should be I can't say: there is usually a delay before changes show, but only a day or two. It's peculiar that it should have failed to update the Store page but has the correct link on the 'Subscribe' button, and I can only suggest you try contacting Support:
