Preview Dev program vs nokia software recovery too...

So i was a dev preview user, but when the 8.1 came out with the official version that included cyan i was impatiant that the dev preview did not have cyan, so i used the software recovery tool to install the version that had cyan... bad idea...
First off it wiped the phone and i had to put EVERYTHING BACK, with over 5 gigs of photo's that took forever!!!
Secondly while i got cyan, i did not get the most current version, i noticed that my cortana was not up to par with my dev preview buddies anymore (no cortana icon changes for impressions etc...)
I just realized today that i had to turn the dev preview back on, and now my phone has found a critical update to 8.1...
I'm in the process of installing the prev dev update now and hoping that it finally gets my phone current on ALL software, will post more once its done!

yes, reinstalling software wipes the device completely. but you should have had all your pix backed up to the cloud, which you shouldn't need to download unless you want to save to your device again.
the preview for developers will always have the most up-to-date updates as that is why it is a preview, but knowing that you could loose your data (which has never happened, that I am aware of, unless it is a user error)
you should be good now, and also have the ability to add folders to your start screen, like denim, though you will still see cyan in the about part.
it was my understanding that they fixed the ability to get the updates from the OTA carrier versions, ie-cyan, in the update after cyan.
I cannot, however, confirm this until "denim" officially is released by ATT in the US.

  • Heads up: The Nokia Software Recovery Tool is bust...

Nokia Software Recovery Tool won't load
Anyone else having problems with Nokia Software Recovery Tool?
I've heard all the generic cookie-cutter responses "Try a different OS" "Try a different cable"... the problem is not with our OS or cables, but rather the update checking phase. It always returns the issue "Could not check application update". Apparently this just started recently as there were users able to use this software as recently as Wednesday.
Got ready to wipe two phones for selling purposes. This software was necessary because I didn't want to sell them while they were on the dev preview, and the typical reset doesn't take a Windows Phone off dev preview... I have mostly been met with this piece of work all throughout random times of the day.
Won't work for anything, and it also does not allow us to skip the update so there's no winning here. That update really should be optional simply for the sake of avoiding crippling instances like this. If the update is broken, we should at least be able to use what's there... as it is all I can do is open this software and close it.
...just bringing awareness to Nokia's home turf so that it will (hopefully) have a speedy resolution.

  • Nokia Software Recovery has Bricked my Phone!

My Lumia 928 died when I was recovering it and now I can't turn it on!
The phone doesn't seem to be charging and windows doesn't recognize it anymore.
Is there anything I can do?

    Hi, AxleRose.
Let's further isolate your case. What's the current status of your phone now? Can you tell us why you're recovering your phone using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool? Are you trying to fix an issue? What's the software version of your phone before you use the recovery tool?
When you connect it to the charger that came with it and let it charge for about 20 minutes, can you confirm that the start key flashes? You mentioned that "windows doesn't recognize it anymore". Does this happen regardless the USB cable you're using and USB port it's connected to? If possible, try connecting the phone to a different PC.
We look forward to your reply. By the way, welcome to our community.
    Good day, Sensonic.
Yes, it would still be under warranty. Learn more about the manufacturer's limited warranty by visiting this link: http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/guides/WC_B9229743_EN_1.pdf.

  • Deploying Nokia Software Updater in a Corporate En...

    Hi
I need to deploy Nokia Software Updater too approx 300 users across 40 to 50 sites around our company to update our fleet of Nokia 6120c's.
I would like to know if it is possible to deploy this software to an End Users PC silently via a scripted install?
Does anyone know what switches are available to perform this silent installation?
Also once installed, is it possible to script the process to backup a users phone data, flash the phone and then restore their data?
If you could reply with any information you have on this process, it would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Darren Mc

Yeah. You can download an MSI of PC Suite... well I seem to have one here for v6.82.
If you have a Windows environment, you can deploy the MSI via Group Policy.
Tell me more about your environment and which version of PC Suite you'd like to install (and the URL of where I can download it, to check it out myself).
    Cheers.

  • Problem Downloading Nokia Software Updater

Hi. This is my first time using this board so bare with me. Everytime I try and download the program 'Nokia Software Updater' for my N80 I constantly get the error message that I require 256MB free space and then the installation shuts down completely. Currently my system has 51GB free space on the drive and obviously has plenty of room. Anyone else ever suffer the same problem when downloading or know how to solve the problem? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think it is referring to RAM. If you only have 256RAM and you have a graphic card that takes 64 then you don't have enough and need to use a computer with more RAM.
Is that an N95 in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me?!?
Life's too important to take seriously.
    Nokias I've owned 3210, 3310, 6100, 7650, 6600, 6680, 6630, N80, N95
    I'm a 26 year old boy BTW

  • Nokia N95 not updating using the Nokia Software Up...

    Hi guys
just got my n95 today, it has v10 fw on it and i would like to update it to v12.
ive downloaded and installed latest pc suite and downloaded the latest nokia update software
i run the updater and it says found new software (v12), please tick the box to acknowledge etc etc
so i click on ok, and it says updating....
then 2 mins later i get this screen:
    http://aycu30.webshots.com/image/24429/2000451008485701969_rs.jpg
Which says "phone recovery - please remove battery and restart the phone"
so i got to take battery out and retry, but i get the same error. not too sure what to do now? the fw it downloaded was 113mb.
i have tried it on vista pc/laptop and a xp pro pc and still get the same error.
ive tried using different usb ports, connected the usb directly to pc (without any hubs etc) and still get the same error.
it looks like this n95 doesn't want to be updated. The n95 still works though, i just want to update its software
anyone had any thing similar? is there anything else i could try?
    any help is much appreciated

Handsets that allow for updating, have a small piece of software within them often called the boot loader, that allows the new upgraded software to be flashed into the device.
If the Boot Loader is damaged, then the upgrade of the device software from the Nokia Software updater cannot be performed.
A Nokia care point is able to rectify this because they can use the service connector on the handset to reflash the software with their equipment.
This will be done for free if your handset is in warranty.

I will mostly be communicating with a Nokia E72 Zodium Black

  • Error 1904 while installing "nokia software update...

Hi, i've just downloaded the new nokia software updater v.1.4.70en but while im trying to install it shows me an error saying :
    " Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\Tss\Communication API\cmn_usbdcm.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473. Contact your support personnel" and another " Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\Tss\Communication API\dtl.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473. Contact your support personnel.".
I put ok and it continues the installation and then it finish.
But the problem is that if i go to the nokia software updater it does not find my phone! Im working on my windows xp sp2 laptop. I also tried on my windows vista laptop and it gave me the same errors! I have no firewalls or antiviruses to block anything! if somebody can help me i would be very gratfull!
I have an nokia E90 V.07.24.0.3 and i want to update it to the last firmware!
    Thank you, Olivier!

I have just encountered the same/similar problem and spent an age trying to find a solution both here and through Google with no success. The good news is that after a bit of trial & error I have managed to resolve the issue with a very simple workaround
When installing NSU, continue through the installation until presented with the error message.
Here, grab a pen and paper and note down the full path of the .DLL causing the problem.
Now continue to install (ignoring the error) by clicking on the right arrow.
Once insallation is complete, open the start menu and select 'Run'
Here you need to type "regsvr32" (without quotation marks) followed by a space then the full path of the file you have noted from the error message. (Note - the path should be in quotation marks). As an example, below is exactly what I typed to resolve my issue
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\Tss\ProductApiLoader\ta_productapiloader.dll"
Now open NSU and update your handset.
Good luck and remember to feed back your results on this thread for the benefit of others.

  • N82: Nokia Software Update doesn't find the phone

Hello, I am trying to update the firmware of my Nokia N82, but I get an error message from Nokia Software Updater saying that it doesn't find the phone. I find that strange as Nokia PC Suite indeed finds the phone. The icon on the taskbar says that "AndersMobil is connected".
I've noticed that if I let Nokia PC Suite run at the same time as Nokia Software Updater, this icon shows that the phone is being connected and disconnected several times while Nokia Software Updater tries to find the phone, something that might indicate that the two programs cannot be run at the same time? I tried to run Nokia Software Update alone, but still the program doesn't find the phone.
In Windows Hardware Manager (or Units manager, not sure of the english translation) of Windows XP, "Nokia GSM Phone USB Modem" gives the following error message: "The unit is not working as it should as Windows cannot load the necessary drivers for this unit (Code 31)." Under "Portable Devices" in Hardware Manager/(or Units manager?) the error message "This unit cannot start. (Code 10)" appears for the unit "AndersMobil".
I followed the guidelines on the internet reinstalling Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater, removing and reinstalling the drivers, but Nokia Software Update still doesn't find the phone, and the same error messages appears in Hardware/Units manager every time.
    What do I do?
    Regards,
    Anders
By the way, I sent an e-mail to Nokia support about this but they still haven't answered although it's been a long time since.
    Moderator note: translation removed.

  • Software Recovery Tool Odd Result with Lumia 620

    Good Afternoon,
One of our users bought his Lumia 620 to me earlier, it had hung apparently. He removed/re-inserted the battery and since then the screen just shows Nokia on powerup and nothing else happens.
I tried all the usual soft reset/hard reset/spinning in my chair whilst praying to the great Finnish gods of telecommunication etc. All to no avail.
I then downloaded the Software recovery tool (V1.4.3) and installed it, this again would not see the phone. I followed the instructions and then it picked it up.
According to the recovery tool, it found the right hardware revision for the phone and suggested the correct country version of firmware (3056.4000.1404.0004). Happy days.
I told it to go and do it's thing, upon which it downloaded the 1.37GB of firmware and flashed it to the phone.
At this point the recovery tool, was waiting for the phone to reset asking for a pin for 180 seconds. At this point it timed out. The phone itself just sat there looking at me blankly and then reset itself.
The phone itself re-booted and now has a screen with 3 red wavy lines and the word TIM on it. (see attached pic)
    So my questions are......
    1. Have I done something worng?
    2. If I haven't, then does anyone have an idea what has happened?
    Thanks In Advance

    Hi All,
Thanks to Abi99 and scoobyman for the replies and pointing me in the right direction.
It seems that the failing phone is indeed an Italian phone that I have been sold as a UK variant (thanks Amazon)
The product code for the UK one's I have is 059R4G7. The faulty phone begins 059S... (i'm at a different office today so don't have the full code) . Interestingly the firmware for the Lumia 620 TIM Italian version is the same number as the UK country variant hence my confusion.
So the software recovery tool is actually updating correctly with the TIM softwaredependant on the model number. So it's just that the phone is actually broken (written off to experience). I'll be more careful checking the ones I receive in the future.
As an aside I, it would be nice if the software recovery tool could allow you to choose which firmware to load. However I realise this opens a massive can of worms and is unlikely.
    Thanks All.
    Andy.

  • Nokia Software Updater, inadequate instructions, 5...

I have to say I am thoroughly disappointed with the Nokia Software Updater. I heard that there was an update to the software on my 5800 so I followed the instruction on the program and did not get what I expected.
I followed every instruction to the letter including having my phone fully charged before beginning the process. After downloading the update the computer then my computer started making the hardware connected and hardware removed noises over and over again with various bubbles coming up to tell me about Nokia Rom and so on. This goes on for about 10 minutes then the program tells me it has lost connection with the phone and the phone says "startup failed, contact retailer". You can imagine at this point I am very unhappy to this has happened.
After following the instructions it then gives to reattempt the update. The computer simply fails to connect to it again and the phone gave the same message.
When I initially plugged in my USB cable the phone asked what mode it should be in and the Software Updater DID NOT SAY what mode it should be in. I thought it would be best to leave it alone then. The computer said the software could be updated so I left it to it.
As far as I can tell now I have a phone that does work though it not turns itself off after random amounts of times.
I wish I had never attempted to use the updater as I think it has damaged my phone.
    Anybody have any advice?
    Very unhappy customer here

if your phone is in warranty, just take it to the service and it will be repaired for free. if not, it may cost between 10 and 50 dollars. don't worry.

  • Unable to install new version of Nokia Software Up...

I opened NUS today and was told there is a new version available. I accepted downloading it, however the installer at one point gave the message "Error 1714. The older version of Nokia Software Updater cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group.".
What I tried to get around the problem (with no results):
    - I followed this procedure; after I ran the MSI file, I ended up with a very similar error message about an older version not being able to be uninstalled
    - used Nokia PC Suite Cleaner, and manually deleted the files that were unable to be deleted by the program
    - cleared the temp folders
    - restarted my computer
Can anyone suggest what else I can try to make the NSU installer work?

If you have installed Microsoft Installer v4.5 (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe) then uninstall it. Use good uninstaller to uninstall that HotFix because Windows inbuilt Add/Remove programs does not show this HotFix as installed program. Try this and tell me the result.
If you like my post then give me "Kudos" star...

  • Problem with instalation - Nokia Software Updater ...

Hi, I've been trying to update firmware on my 5800 for 3 hours. The main problem is that I can't install NSU: I start instalation (I tried from CD and I downloaded from nokia.com), the progres of instalation is 0% and it does not change during second attempt it displays that there is another instalation in background and that I have to finish it, but checking in Task Manager there is no such task. I think that it is because of Vista, or some programe which blocks instalation, my antivirus is AVG. Please help me! Thanks

hops, version of Nokia Software update is: 1.1.25.22932

  • Cyan update/ software recovery tool firmware

I may have already asked this question but maybe not in this way. After reading through a lot of resources and articles I have read Microsoft is suggesting everyone running the 8.1 developer preview downgrade to the commercial 8.0 firmware using the recovery tool. ( due to an issue with bitlocker,,, which I am NOT running on my phone) After looking at the firmware versions the firmware on the recovery tool is the exact same firmware already running on my phone. Is there a difference between the developer preview firmware and the firmware listed on the recovery too even though the firmware version number is the same. I really dislike resetting my phone, due to almost 6 gigs of information,, games/apps on my SD card. I know I can back up my phone which I have done several times in the last few days trying figure out if I really need to reset my phone or just wait for the cyan update an d see if it installs correctly...,,, any who thanks in advance for any replies, suggestions or comments. Have an awesome day and be great.....
    russlee AKA 1badelf
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Many users who were already running the WP8.1 developer preview have received the cyan update and the process went on normally.
The problem only exists for the enterprise users who make use of bitlocker and AFAIK, general consumers are unaffected. You should be able to update normally.

  • Nokia Software Updater not working on Nokia 6120 c...

    My phone is the:
Nokia 6120 classic (RM-243) on the 3 network
    Software Version 3.70.
I was using the Nokia software updater to update my Nokia 6120c.
It found my phone and a new software version 3.83 was available.
I then proceeded to follow the instructions on screen which led to the latest software download to the PC.
Once the download to the PC was complete another screen showed the download to the phone.
The progress bar was stuck on the same 15 seconds and no progress was made.
Another screen was then displayed showing 'phone recovery', with 4 steps available:
1.remove battery and charger from phone
2.insert the battery and insert the charger
    3.click 'retry' to continue
    4.press the phone's power button
After following the steps the same software update screen is displayed showing the progress stuck on 15 seconds. Once that fails the same 'phone recover' screen appears.
I closed the updater application and checked the software version using *#0000# and it still shows the same software version 3.70. No software update occured.

leas give me URL to download old Softwere v3.83 for nokia 6120c because i install v6.01 but i dont really like it  thak you
    hello there,
its is not possible to roll back the firmware. the only way you can update your frimware is to use NSU, for some newer phones FOTA and nokia care points. in very rare instances nokia care points will roll back the firmware but it is at thier discretion and you have to have a really good reason for asking them to do so.
usually alwyas check for the latest nsu, all the drivers and latest version of the pc suite prior to any firmware updates. if your phones are branded to a network, it is up to the network to approve firmware updates prior to release. this might be a reason why some of you are unable to download the latest firmawre for your phones. you can contact your provider and ask them if the latest firmware had been approved by them for release.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....
