Preview displays PDF with "COPY" written across each page

Canon's saving money by no longer including the User Guide with some of their camera's such as the Canon A1100 IS:
If I go to the canon site:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=183&mo delid=18138#DownloadDetailAct
... I can download the User Guide as a PDF from here:
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/6/0300001856/01/PSA1100ISCUGEN.pdf
In Preview 5.0.1 (503), every page of the manual has the word "COPY" written across every page, which interferes with legibility.
If I open the same PSA1100ISCUGEN.pdf file in Acrobat Pro 9, then the word "COPY" is no longer displayed.
However if I go to print the manual from Acrobat Pro 9, then the preview in the Print Dialog shows the word "COPY" across each page to be printed.
So whether I use OS X's Preview.app, or Acrobat Pro 9, they both share the same printing subsystem which wants to print "COPY" across every page.
BTW Preview.app's "Show Inspector" identifies the Canon User Guide as protected, but with Printing privileges.
Any guidance on how to print the Canon User Guide without the word "COPY" across every page? Any thoughts on why Preview.app displays the word "COPY" onscreen, while Adobe Acrobat 9 does not? Any thoughts on whether there's a way around the common OS X printing subsystem that both sit on, wanting to print "COPY" across every page?
PS. I'm using an Canon IP5000 ink jet, but the behavior seems the same if I'm pointing to my office's Kyocera Postscript printer.

Search for the manual on the european site http://canon-europe.com/ - the versions there (at least for the A1100 IS) do not have the annoying COPY watermark.
The direct link for the A1100 IS manual is http://files.canon-europe.com/files/soft32765/manual/PSA1100isCUGEN.pdf

  • Preview displays pdfs with distorted colours and thin white line on the border

Preview Version 7.0 (826.4) on 10.9.5 displays pdfs with cmyk images in it in distorted colours and thin white line on the border of the page despite in the original .indd file the image runs into bleed. The display errors aren't present in acrobat reader 10.1.12 or acrobat pro 9.3.4. Any idea? Thanks

You can use one of these extensions to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:

  • How to display column headings only once in each page with repeated blocks

    Hi,
I have a report with 1 block on one column. The block has a table in it and will repeat in one page.
I need to display the column headers only in the beginning of each page. Can someone share your experience in implementing this ?
    Thanks for your help.

The trick I use to do that is turn off all the headers on the block (table and break) and put the header information in its own block above the section and set the new header block to repeat on each page.  You just have to remember to resize the columns in the header block if you make changes to the column sizes in your data block.

  • Can Adobe reader on my iPad display PDFs with layers?

Can Adobe Reader on my iPad display PDFs with layers?

    Hi,
Currently, Acrobat DC mobile products (for iOS and Android) do not support any changes to layer visibility.  So you are not able to turn on or off layers in a PDF document using Acrobat DC for iOS.
Would you file a feature request?

  • Preview displays .pdf files incorrectly... really really incorrectly.

Since yesterday I have been having trouble with Preview and the way it has been displaying .pdf files.
Initially I opened a .pdf file, and it was displayed as a large mass of random characters... tamil, hindi, arabic, chinese, and so on. Each character inside its own little box, and with all the boxes overlapping to a lesser or greater extent.
I closed the pdf and reopened it to find that it displayed normally.
Today, I opened preview to find it displaying my documents as blank pages. Then pages with small spots on the them in apparently random places, and then with some text there, and some gone, and with the amorphous mass of random characters again, and then it finally opened the file normally.
I was wondering what couldd possibly have caused such strange behaviour, and what the best way to trouble shoot it might be?
The only thing that I have done to my mac in the last few days is run the little utility 'Maintenance', but all I did was repair permissions, which I can't imagine causing this kind of insanity.
Please help! I have homework to do!

I know, restarting is fabulous isn't it? Wish my PC laptop was fixed so easily.
Unfortunately I have restarted, and it did no good.
The files all display correctly once they have been opened enough times to start displaying correctly, but as soon as I restart or logout/login it all starts over again.
I have never seen anything like it.
At first I thought that maybe it as just a selection of files, but it appears to be preview because it happens in any file I try to open until I get one to open correctly, and then they all display correctly.
I am a Mac newbie... but on my PC I would reinstall the offending component. Is that
    a. Possible
    b. Necessary
    Thanks for replying...

  • Firefox 11 not displaying pdfs with Adobe Reader update (MacOS)

Since updating to Adobe Reader 10.1.3, I noticed Firefox 11 does not display PDF files. It just shows a blank screen.
The only workaround I found is disabling the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in (ver. 10.1.3) the update installs. Firefox will prompt which application to use.Choosing Preview allows the PDFs to display correctly.
Neither Chrome or Safari exhibit this behavior, nor does Firefox 11 (Windows) with the update installed.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

I've found another workaround to this problem. If you open Firefox 11 in 32-bit mode, it will be able to display PDF files.
To open Firefox in 32-bit mode, quit Firefox, go to the Applications folder, right-click on Firefox and click on "Get Info".
Then, under General, you should see a checkbox where you can have Firefox open in 32-bit. Close this window and restart Firefox and you should be good to go.

  • Installing AcrobatPro after removing Adobe Reader Safari displayed pdf urls only as a black page anymore

After installing Acrobat Pro it installs in Library/Internet Plugin-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin version 11.0.03. Allthough after selecting a PDF-link it leads to a displays it not in Acrobat Pro, it diplays it as a black page in Safari. When I have a look in Acrobat Pro into the preferences/internet/webbrowser-option/PDF to show inBrowser with: isnt checked! And there is still listed/Application/Adobe Reader.app instead of /Applikation/Adobe Acrobat Pro!!
There is no way to select this Applikation. Having a look at Lbrary/Preferences/com.adobe.acrobat.pdfviewer.plist listed:
    AdobePDFDriver file://localhost/Volumes/Sicherung%20laptop/Applications/Adobe/Adobe%20Acrobat% 209%20Pro/Adobe%20Acrobat%20Pro.app/
    ReaderInstallPath file://localhost/Applications/Adobe%20Reader.app/
    WebBrowserUsePath file://localhost/Applications/Adobe%20Reader.app/
Has anyone changed the ReaderInstallPath file or WebBrowserUsePath file to the path of Acrobat Pro  and as a result a good diplay of PDF-urls in Arcobat Pro or Safari??
Thankx, I hope my english isn´t to bad for a german apple-user!

Thanks for the screenshot, Pat. I think the light bulb went off for me. I was looking over the tips for configuring Firefox at the link:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html
And I think what confused me the most was this screen shot for plug-ins for Firefox mentioned Acrobat.
I had Acrobat installed myself, but most of our users do not use Acrobat, since it's not a free product. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat, and the Adobe Acrobat plug-in was still there, so that forced me to realize that the plug-in that comes with Adobe Reader 11.0.3 is called "Adobe Acrobat".
I went into Tools->Options->Applications and selected "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)", rather than "Use Adobe Reader (default)".
This now allows me to not only view PDFs within a browser window in Firefox, but it also enables the save icon (which "Use Adobe Reader (default)" was not allowing me to do:
It's a shame that the default setting is not for "in browser", because our customers may have to make a configuration change.
There is no way to programmatically force a configuration change on a user's browser, is there?

  • Making a PDF with "Outline" and Bookmarks Using Pages

Hi, I'm using Pages 1 and I have tried making a PDF with outline breaks but I failed. I thought using paragraph styles for my document would work but when I exported my document to PDF, all I got was a PDF that only has the thumbnails view but not the outline view. Also, when I exported my document that has bookmarks to PDF, all the bookmarks don't work anymore. How can I make a PDF document using Pages with all the bookmarks and the organization just like other PDFs that I encounter? Thanks

    Hello LadyinStilettos,
welcome to the Pages Discussions. If I remember correct, in Pages 1.x there is no way to export text links to PDF. An outline view creation doesn't exist.
If you want to have links in PDF (of the TOC, too), then you should upgrade to iWork'06. But outline view doesn't exist here like it doesn't in version 1.x.

  • Why can't Preview display pdf 1.5 files correctly ?  A bug ?

I have been trying to figure out why Preview and Safari have a problem with some PDF files.  The problem is that some text is not shown in the correct font. Text which should be in bold, italic or bold italic serif font (e.g. Times New Roman) is being shown in plain sans serif (e.g. Arial regular).
I have found that the PDF files causing problems were created in Acrobat/PDF 1.5 format.  Files created with PDF 1.4 or earlier seem fine.  The software used to create the file doesn't seem to make any difference.  I have tested files created with Distiller, MS Office etc. and the only consistent feature of problem files is PDF 1.5.
The problem affects printing from Preview as well.
Acrobat Reader (v10.0.2) is displaying and printing these files with no problems !
Has anyone else found this ?  Is this a bug in OS X ?
    Many thanks
    Garry

It is not that uncommon to have to use Adobe Reader for some pdf files instead of Preview, their capabilities are just not identical.
You can report the problem to Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • QuickLook / Preview and PDFs with hidden layers

Hidden layers in PDF files show up in preview, quicklook and in the generated thumbnails. Is there any known fix for this to get the content to render with only the visible layers?

It would help to look at a sample. Can you post one?
Also, check the "Show Large Images" Page Display preference.

  • Mozilla Firefox and displaying PDFs with Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plugin

    Hello Everyone,
I have a strange issue going on in my enviroment with OS X clients, here are the relevent details and that steps I've performed.
Clients are on fully patched 10.8.4 machines running Firefox 23.0 and Adobe Reader 11.0.03, the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in (AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin) is enabled under Add-ons Manager > Plugins. Under Preferences > Applications I have set PDFs to "Use Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 11.0.03 (in Firefox)".
When viewing a PDF Adobe generates an error -> http://imgur.com/O4l5oTi
I have already tried basic troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstall both applications and preferences. I have deleted the mimeTypes.rdf and pluginreg.dat and had them recreated by Firefox. I believe this is a Adobe related issue as I initally was running Firefox 17.0.8 ESR and got this problem and then upgraded to 23.0 and continue to have the problem.
Using the built-in PDF viewer works but this is not a fix but a workaround. Please advise if you need any further information, so far this is reproducable on all my machines running Firefox and Adobe Reader.
    Thanks,
    Kev

Bump; The Firefox site says that Adobe "...does not yet maintain a browser plugin for viewing PDF files in Firefox on Mac OS X", per the support.mozilla.org site http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-adobe-reader-plugin-view-or-download-pdf-files
Can anyone from Adobe confirm this?

  • Preview breaks pdf with data entry cells?

    Hi,
Here's the gist of the trouble:
I created a simple invoice in acrobat with data entry cells for the user to enter hours worked, description of work, etc. It works fine in acrobat.
If I open it in Preview two things seem to happen:
    1. closing the document saves it without me being prompted
    2. the data entry cells are mucked up - data is in the cells but can't be seen unless I click on the cell. If I click away from that cell the data dissappears behind a blue highlight of the cell (the same blue highlight I see in Preview). I am able to 'bring the data back' by selecting the data, cmd-x, click to another cell, click back to original cell, cmd-v. It don't make no darned sense I tell ya!
So, why is Preview saving my data without asking me? What's going on there?
Why is Preview breaking the data entry cells?
    Any ideas?
    Cheers, Mike
    Lion.2

This is the work around that I got from the Apple iWork Team; they are working on solving the problem:
"Unfortunately, Numbers can enter a bad state. We are investigating a fix. In the meantime:
To avoid this bad state, please do not exit Numbers with a file open. Always:
    1. Tap the "My Spreadsheets" button to close the file.
    2. Then exit Numbers."
So far, following this procedure, I have encountered no problems. If Numbers is in this "bad state," you can return it to a normal condition by either double tapping the spreadsheet name which will put you into edit mode, then tap the spreadsheet to exit. Also, you can tap the arrow in the upper right corner to enter read mode, then tap the spreadsheet to exit. Hope this helps.

  • Vertical slider position not updated while displaying .pdfs with Adobe Reader X

When a .pdf file is opened inside Firefox 4 (beta/RC1), the vertical slider position does not update while scrolling through the document until the mouse cursor is moved to the slider bar (then the slider immediately jumps to the right place).
I am using Adobe Reader X.

Here is a URL that will not save in Reader X:
    http://samplepdf.com/sample.pdf?meaningless=1234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456 789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456 789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456 7890/&blah=blah.pdf
However, if the last slash is removed or encoded as %2f (which should not be necessary, as it appears in the query portion of the URL), there is no problem.
