Preview does not open a particular group of images modified in Photoshop CS

The problem described below occurs in a PowerBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and Preview 2.1.1.
This computer now refuses to open a group of .jpg images in Preview that have been modified in Adobe Photoshop CS, but opens up images that have not been modified after import from camera. The images that she refuses to open in Preview were worked on another computer, a MacBook running Tiger. I tried deleting the preference file for the malfunctioning Preview, but that did not help.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might remedy this?

.jpg files are set to open in preview on that computer, but I did try "open with", I also tried opening the files from within Preview and to drag the files to the preview icon in the dock and none of these methods yielded anything. I have also tried opening these images in Safari and Photoshop on the computer in question, and that works fine, so it seems that it is Preview that is out of order and not the files themselves.
Edit: Upon reading my original post I see that I did not describe the problem accurately enough, as the default application for opening these images is Preview and not Photoshop, as one could presume from my original description.
I did actually also try changing the default for all .jpg files to Photoshop and then back to Preview, but that didn't do anything either.

If another application tries to open when you double click a pdf file. click once on that file to select it, then press command + I.
in the info window that appears expand the section 'open with' then choose from the drop down 'preview' then click the change all button.
If preview opens but does not open the pdf you may have a bad preference file so trash the following file
/Users/yourname/Library/com.apple.Preview.plist
then reopen preview.

Preview does not open when I insert a picture CD

In the CD & DVDs preference pane, I've set Preview instead of iPhoto to open when I insert a picture CD. After setting this, nothing happens and I can open the picture CD fine in Preview.
Is there anything I can do to make Preview open my picture CD when I insert it into my Mac?

I just tried adding a picture to the memory card without putting it in any folder(s) to see if Preview could open it, it still does nothing
Strange thing is that Preview can display my pictures if I clicked on the memory card in the open dialogue window without me having to point it to the CASIO100 folder inside the DCIM folder. If it can do this, surely it should be able to display the contents of the memory card when I insert it using the memory card adaptor in my MBP?

Thanks for your lengthy reminder dude, I have a similar Mac with yours. I suspect its a software fault because it happens after I upgraded to Lion, 10.7.2.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.

Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select

Preview does not support PDF features

I have generated a number of PDF files in Adobe Acrobat that are questionnaires. The intent is to have the users fill out forms, click radio buttons and check boxes within the PDF and using buttons embedded on the questionnaire email them back to me. I have run into many problems with my questionnaires by Mac OSX users. It turns out when they open my Questionnaire (PDF) Preview launches instead of Adobe Reader. Evidentially Preview is the default application for PDFs. Preview does not support "calculations" "actions" for buttons including "submit a form" and does not auto font size in the forms they fill out.
Is there something in Preview that causes this issue that preview users need to do? It clearly appears Preview is not a good substitute for Abode Reader that is free and the standard for PDF viewing.

Adobe Reader is free for end users to download. If Apple included it as part of MacOS X, the would have to pay Adobe many millions of dollars. Furthermore, while Acrobat Reader does have many nice features, it is a slow, bloated behemoth that fewer and fewer people want to use anymore. That is why there are so many other PDF viewers these days - people don't like Acrobat Reader.
I just think they should not have a fully functional PDF reader as the default application for PDFs.
Preview is fully functional. But Apple can't read Adobe's mind and support every new feature that Adobe throws in to try to keep customers. Your PDF solution is an Adobe solution. Adobe software just isn't as ubiquitous as it used to be. Times change. I suggest you look into some other method of form distribution, such as HTML and Javascript.

MS Excel document as attachment to a PDF document does not open with a hot spot/link in the PDF

Hi, I have attached an excel file to a pdf document. I need to open this document in a new window by clicking an icon/hotspot in the pdf document to which it it attached.
I am using the Link Tool to create a hot spot around the icon in the pdf. In the next window I am using the Go to Page view option, opening the attachment to its first page and clicking the "set link" button.
For some reason, clicking the hotspot does not open the excel document as it does another pdf document.
Need help resolving this issue with attached documents.

Select a particular download file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Open With section choose the desired default application from the dropdown menu then click on the Change All button.
For .dmg files use DiskImageMounter (System/Library/CoreServices/ folder.)
For .zip files use Archiver - same folder as above - or download TheArchiver - MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

Clicking the scroll wheel does not open a new firefox window

I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1. I use the scroll wheel to click items in the task bar to open another instance of those items. Eg I scroll-click a Firefox or Excel or Explorer or whatever item in the taskbar, and it opens another instance of that program. I use this feature to open a new instance of FireFox rather than switching to the FF window, then using control-n to open a new window.
I just upgraded to FireFox 6 from FF4.x. Since doing so, scroll-clicking the FF item in the taskbar does not open a new FF window. It does, well, nothing.
I installed FF6 on a clean Win7 x86 (RTM) build in a VM. When I use the scroll-click feature in the taskbar, it works as expected: it opens a new FF window.
Things I have tried: A different mouse; updating video drivers (I doubted this would make a difference, but it needed to be done anyway, so I thought I'd mention it); running FF in safe mode (ie with all plugins etc disabled).
I'm doing a little experimentation right now with respect to x86/x64, RTM/SP1, clean FF6/upgrade from 4.x and other differences that might highlight why it works as expected in my VM but not on my physical machine.
I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this problem since upgrading to FF6.

Respectfully, that answer isn't particularly helpful. I have already demonstrated that middle-clicking (mouse wheel click) will open a new instance of FF, and other programs. This was true before the upgrade from FF4 to FF6, and is true on all my VM builds (Windows 7 default install with nothing but FF installed).
Nevertheless, I've tried shift-left-click, and it does not open a new instance. It will only open a new instance if I pin FF to the taskbar, which I have already stated I do not want to do. This new behaviour is unique to FF. Other applications (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, whatever) all behave as expected. It is only Firefox that is misbehaving, and it is only misbehaving since the upgrade.
My issue is that FF has changed its behaviour with respect to middle-clicking since upgrading from 4 to 6. I'd welcome helpful comments about getting FF to behave.

Link to a file in the jsp page does not open correctly

Hi all,
I have a JSP application which is similar to a discussion forum and the messages usually carry a link to an attachment file which could be of any extension.
The client pool I am dealing with are concerned only with MS Word/Excel/PPT files. When the user clicks on the file, a new browser window opens but it does not open the file in the correct application. I know that browsers can display Doc, ppt and xls files.
In my case, the browser just shows some garbage. THe link is to the correct file, I know that because I can right click and download the file and then open it in the correct application. But I want browser to find the application and open the file.
Can somebody give me hints as to what may be wrong?
Also, I am in the development stage and therefore I have only 100 odd messages in the database. Many have attachements. But only one attachment to a particular message works well..ie the browser finds MS Word and displays the doc.
Why not the remaining doc/ppt files?

Facebook and add-on page does not open stuck in a infinet loop

I am able to use other ssl enabled sites like gmail from Firefox, but when I try to login to Facebook after the first page, It does not open. Have tried all the troubleshooting steps suggested for Facebook errors and https errors, no luck.
I get stuck in an infinite loop on the next page. This is the security page which asks to setup a machine name.. (https://www.facebook.com/loginnotify/setup_machine.php?next)
Please note there is no error displayed, the page just loops endlessly and does not display the Box which should ask me to set the device name for Facebook.
The same thing happens when I try the Add -ons page via the Tools menu. I am able to use Facebook in Chrome on the same system system.
Willing to work with the community to resolve this. Can also provide Wire shark dumps if required. Thank you for your time. Hope this gets resolved soon.

Premiere Pro CC does not open MOD files correctly

I just started using the Adobe Creative Cloud as a trial, in particular the Premiere Pro CC software, since it might be relevant, I am working on a mac (completely updated as of yesterday).
I have a JVC GZ-MG505 camcorder. This device saves the video files on an internal HDD in a file format called MOD. From what I have been able to see when searching on the web, this should be nothing more than a MPEG-2 file.
So, I tried importing some video files into Premiere Pro and to my surprise, I noticed that a whole strip on the right hand side of the image is missing. The original is recorded in a widescreen (16:9) format with 720x576 pixels and Premiere Pro gives me a file with 540x576 pixels. I have tried using the Interpret Footage to change this, but it doesn't let me change the number of pixels. I also tried opening the files in Adobe Media Encoder and I have exactly the same results as in Premiere Pro. However, opening the files in VLC or mPlayer they come out exactly as expected with all the pixels there. Has anyone come accross this problem before or can anyone help me with solving this?
I could try reencoding the files with VLC, but the output file is much smaller than the input file, so I am afraid I am loosing some definition.
So, just to restate my problem, the adobe products open my MOD files without complaining, but for some reason they loose a strip 180 pixels wide on the right hand side of the image.

That is correct: there is a bug in CC. In CS6 they work correctly.
