Preview does not support RAW

I just bought a Canon SX60 HS. I was shooting in RAW format. Does anyone know when Preview or IPhoto will be able to support this camera in RAW format?
Is there a work around? It supports the Canon SX50 HS.

Your camera should have come with Canon software such as Digital Photo Professional. If it's not the latest, you can get it from Canon at this link to update what you have. Shooting RAW gives great flexibility in processing but you need the software that can offer that flexibility.

Not with Preview, but Nikon Transfer v1.0.1.3005 is so far happy with 10.6.1 and you may see if there is any advantage there. Take the card out of the 300s and use a reader if you have to.
It usually takes from 3 to 6 months before Apple releases a new/specific Nikon RAW related update, so you are at the beginning of that cycle it would appear...all you can do is wait, sorry.

  • Preview does not support PDF features

I have generated a number of PDF files in Adobe Acrobat that are questionnaires. The intent is to have the users fill out forms, click radio buttons and check boxes within the PDF and using buttons embedded on the questionnaire email them back to me. I have run into many problems with my questionnaires by Mac OSX users. It turns out when they open my Questionnaire (PDF) Preview launches instead of Adobe Reader. Evidentially Preview is the default application for PDFs. Preview does not support "calculations" "actions" for buttons including "submit a form" and does not auto font size in the forms they fill out.
Is there something in Preview that causes this issue that preview users need to do? It clearly appears Preview is not a good substitute for Abode Reader that is free and the standard for PDF viewing.

The issue I have run into is that Adobe has generated a way that you can distribute forms to a large group of people, they can in return send back the data that they filled out. Acrobat can then tabulate the data automatically. It is a very powerful tool.
I don't doubt it. However, it is a purely Acrobat solution. I'm sure there is other software that can do the same thing. Have you considered a web site instead? You could build an HTML page to distribute to people and it would have all the same features. Plus, it would work with any web browser.
The problem I have is Apple has decided to make Preview their default PDF reader application. When a Mac users opens the PDF file things may not work and they do not understand why. They get frustrated and quit filling out the form, therefore locking out getting data from all Mac users. This is an unnecessary burden to put on Mac users!
Then why don't you pick a method that would work with a stock MacOS X machine?
Adobe Reader is free so why compete with a free application??
Adobe Reader is free for end users to download. If Apple included it as part of MacOS X, the would have to pay Adobe many millions of dollars. Furthermore, while Acrobat Reader does have many nice features, it is a slow, bloated behemoth that fewer and fewer people want to use anymore. That is why there are so many other PDF viewers these days - people don't like Acrobat Reader.
I just think they should not have a fully functional PDF reader as the default application for PDFs.
Preview is fully functional. But Apple can't read Adobe's mind and support every new feature that Adobe throws in to try to keep customers. Your PDF solution is an Adobe solution. Adobe software just isn't as ubiquitous as it used to be. Times change. I suggest you look into some other method of form distribution, such as HTML and Javascript.

  • Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the  Canon Sureshot S95

Have just bought the new Canon Sureshot S95
after contacting Adobe support I am told Lightroom 3 does NOT support raw files for the
    Canon Sureshot S95.
Come on Adobe.....please provide an update asap.

    (1) Well Boss I did what you said and used Canon DPP to convert to TIFFs. Choices are 8-bit TIFF or 16-bit TIFF - I chose 16-bit because part (90% part) of the reason for wanting to work in RAW is to keep the bit depth of teh original. On my EOS 40D it is supposedly 14 bits, which gives great scope to play with the levels & curves without seeing poster effects. If I choose 16 bit TIFF then each S95 image becomes a 70MB file, parallel to my JPEG and RAW.  Hardly a satisfactory solution.
(I realise, however, that I don't actually know the bit depth of the S95 RAW file - anybody? ).
    (2) SUGGESTION-  even if you are adding S95 support to the next update (which I dearly hope), be kinder to those with new cameras in general and allow LR to import JPEGs if it cannot import the RAWs (overriding if necessary the 'ignore JPEG' preference setting).  I am sure users with that preference would still prefer a JPEG than no picture at all!
Since I discovered this compatibility problem, I switched the camera to record RAW+JPEG*. To my great irritation LR3 ignores the JPEGs even though it cannot load the RAWs.  So if I want to import from one supported camera (EOS40D) and one unsupported camera (S95) I have to keep going into preferences to switch on and off the 'ignore JPEG' function.

  • Aperture does not support raw files from my Leica d-lux 6.

When will Aperture support RAW files from a Leica d-lux 6?

You can download a free copy of Adobe DNG Converter. You then can use this program to convert the D Lux RAW files into DNG RAW files. Aperture will be able to read the DNG files. This is a bit of pain but it will work until Apple supports the D Lux in its usual glacial time span.

  • Preview in OSX 10.7.5 does not recognize RAW files from Canon EOS 6D

What must I do so that I can see downloaded RAW photos from my new Canon 6D in "Preview" in my iMac's OSX 10.7.5?  Preview does show photos from my earlier Canons fine.  My older version of Aperture can open the 6D's files, as can, of course, Photoshop.

I could be mistaken, but I believe that Preview does not support RAW - only Aperture, a newer iPhoto version, and third party software will handle it. Does your Canon come with the Digital Photo Professional software from Canon? That should be compatible with RAW as well.
Mountain Lion appears to have more compatibilities:

  • Aperture does not support Pentax K 3 RAW format. Any advises?

I just bought a Pentax K - 3 camera. Aperture does not support RAW format. Does anyone else have the same problem? Is there going to be Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update for Pentax K 3?
I would be very pleased if someone could give me some advise,
    Heikki

Only Apple knows when and if a specific camera's Raw format will be supported and they never say before they release the update.
In the meantime there a few different ways to work around this. One is to shoot Raw & JPG and use the JPG now and the Raw if and when the camera is supported. The other is to convert to DNG.
In the meantime let Apple know you want support for the camera, Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback. Don;t know how much good is does but it can;t hurt.

  • My current Camera Raw 5.7 for Photoshop CS4 Extended does not support Canon EOS 6D. What can I do? Will there be a Photoshop Camera RAW for that?

My current Camera Raw 5.7 for Photoshop CS4 Extended does not support Canon EOS 6D. What can I do? Will there be a Photoshop Camera RAW for that?

You would need Camera Raw 7.3 or later to open those files. Adobe is not going to update CS4. You can either get a newer version of Photoshop that comes with a current version of Camera Raw, or you can use the DNG converter to save your files down to the ACR version that works with CS4.

  • Camera Raw in PSE11 does not support Nikon D610 NEF; all software updates done accomplished - which Camera Raw version to download and where to find?

    Hi,
Just bought a new camera (Nikon D610) and found out that Camera Raw in Photoshop Elements 11 does not support the RAW (NEF) files. Works fine with the Nikon D5200. PSE11 states that it's up to date. Support documents on Adope Website do not help at all. Some say the D610 is supported other say it's not. If I have to update Camera Raw, which version do I have to use for PSE11? Where can I find the download file?
I find it somehow strange, that it's not possible to contact the support in a common way, but have to use this Adobe Community. Anyway, if it works... :-)
Would be great, if someone could give me a hint, how to solve the problem.
    Best Regards,
    Boris

Just got the new PSE12 and found out that Camera Raw 8.4 plug in can not be installed, if the system runs on Vista!
So I got a new Nikon camera, new software (which can not be send back) and it looks like that I will need new system software and probably a new PC... :-(

  • I have a Nikon D7100 I have tried to open a raw file but it staes it does not support the format. I am up to date on all downloads.

I have  Nikon D7100 and shoot in raw. I have tried to open a raw file in elements 10 but it states it does not support the format. I also have a D800 and these open file in elements camera raw. Can anyone help please?

    Hi,
You need version 7.4 or higher to read raw files from, a D7100. Unfortunately, ACR 7.4 is not compatible with PSE 10.
    You need to either
    - update to a new version of PSE or
    - download the DNG converter - use it to conver your NEF files to DNG files which can then be read by PSE 10.
    DNG  Converter 8.4

    MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5738
DNG Converter 8.3 (if running on XP or Vista)

  • PSE 8 does not support Nikon 7000D RAW files?

I just got a Nikon 7000D, and when I tried to open up one of the .NEF (RAW) files in PSE 8, it wasn't supported.  I researched the Camera RAW plug-in, and from what I can tell, PSE 8 is only compatible with Camera RAW up to version 6.2.  It looks like version 6.3 is only useable with PSE 9.
Camera RAW 6.2 does not support files from the Nikon 7000D, or at least the list I saw does not show it, so I did not download 6.2.  Is my only choice for being able to use PSE 9 with my 7000D to spend the money on PSE 9?   -Bill C

You could also download the standalone DNG converter and make DNG files (which you may be able to process in 6.2), or use the Nikon software to convert your files and do any additional editing in PSE.

  • Camera raw does not support my new Nikon D7200? When is it updated?

II have bougth a Nikon D7200 and Camera Raw does not support it.  How to solve this problem, or is a new update coming?

It seems quite likely that after the next update Camera Raw will be able to process that format but do not expect an announcement for a release date.
If you don’t want to use Nikon’s proprietary software and prefer ACR please petition the camera maker to allow shooting DNG.

think those who ask questions on why this does not work, that does not work, no Win8 drivers or printers etc for WIN8 need to realize that this is only a consumer review release, not even a beta, you installed it at your own risk as Microsoft says.
If you read the initial posted here by Walin within this forum it says: HP does not support Windows® 8 Consumer Preview...
