Preview drawer prefs. Does it have to open at start?

Hi,
Is there a preference where I can turn off the animated drawer opening when I click on a pdf file?
I'm thrilled for animated programers having good jobs but I'd just like to use the fantastic superiority of Apple's Preview and open the drawer on my own should I want to use it.
Can't help it, mom taught me to keep my drawers closed. When preview comes sliding across the screen and it's drawer comes flopping open, well, it's enough to make me want to use that primitive Adobe viewer again.
So where is the pref to give me control over the drawer so I can be stunned by the fantastic crispness of the OS graphics, rather than an animated gui show that is irritating to an old geezer like me?

Is there a way, I thought it was in the past, to control how those thumbnails look? I thought there was a way to change it from showing a picture only, to picture, and page number, to just page number.
I thought it use to be control click while cursor was in drawer. But I have tried several documents, nothing happens.

"Preview this File" Does Nothing + Blinding GTK+ open file dialogs...

I also have the same problem, but with my JNI and C++ expertise, I was able to isolate the problem.
My platform:
- Microsoft Windows XP, Family Edition (French), Version 2002, Service Pack 3
- JRE 1.6.0_21
In the source of the JDK6 (Src/windows/classes/sun/awt/windows/WDesktopPeer.java), the Desktop.open(file) calls the native method
ShellExecute(*uri.toString()*, "open")
For example, if you try to open "c:\helloworld.pdf",
uri.toString() = "*file:/c:/helloworld.pdf*"if I call ShellExecute("C:\\helloworld.pdf", "open"), it works
but if I call ShellExecute(" file:/c:/helloworld.pdf", "open"), it doesn't work on my platform.
In both case, the ShellExecuteW or ShellExecuteA function of the Windows API return the integer 42 (> 32), saying that the functions succeeded. If the file object is not correct, the function should return a value <= 32.
=> The bug is not due to Java implementation, but to a bug in the Windows API.
Other remark:
I also tried the "ShellExec_RunDLL" entry point of the Shell32.dll library using RunDll32 utility. Both commands below are running correctly:
rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "C:\hello.pdf"
rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "file:/C:/hello.pdf"My conclusion:
1) A workaround could be implemented in the JRE: use the file path without the "file:/" protocol prefix.
2) This bug seems to be present only one some version of Windows XP (to confirm).

I recently bought a Brother MFC-J430W, and it is Mac compatible, but no matter what drivers I install, I cannot connect the machine to my macbook pro. The CD for MFL Pro Suite does not let me open the "start up" part so I am very stuck!

I cannot access my MFL Pro Suite CD no matter what drivers I install. I have OSX 10.8 updated right now. Please help, I'll be needing my printer in a couple days for university!

I don't think Firefox ever ran in OS9 so this seems very strange. What version of Firefox?
You have posted in the Tiger forum but your profile shows your OS as 9.1.
If you are using Tiger BDAqua's suggestion makes good sense.

I have no "open with" option for downloads

I click on a file within a website to open it, but the pop up box does not have the "open with.." option, only the save option. The file type is a text document with the extension ".prg" which is associated in my Windows Folder Options to open with Wordpad. Within Firefox Tools/Options/Applications, this file type does not show up, so I cannot change it. I read elsewhere where this is blamed on MIME type in the HTML header, but Microsoft Internet Explorer gets it right every time, only Firefox does not recognize the file type.
As an aside, the same site has files with the extension".chg" that I open with Notepad. Firefox gives the "open with" option for these files, with Notepad as the defauld, but the "Always open with" is greyed out. Not that I care, as the default is what I want, but....

Firefox goes by the mimetype and not the file type as IE does.

Power Mac (MDD), New Apple keyboard does not have an Eject key

Newbie question...I picked up an Apple keyboard for an IMAC that does not have the open door key. Is there a combination of keys I can use to open the doors on my G4 MDD? My reqular keyboard, with the open door key, opens the doors fine.

Open System/Library/Core Services/Menu Extras. Double click on "Eject.menu", an icon will appear, and you can eject and close the drive from your menu bar.
If you hold the F12 key for 2-3 seconds, the drive tray door will also open and close.

Macbook has Grey screen wont start- said " MAC OSX does not have enough memory "

My daughter was using the macbook, and a message came up saying something like MAC OSX does not have enough memory for start up applications, ...
and it was frozen ( wish I had written down what it said") In held the start button down for 10 seconds, and now it wont work properly.
All I get on start up is a grey screen. I have tried holding down shift key and rebooting, but nothing.
I tried resetting the Pram or whatever it is.
I cant try and start from the start up utility disc as there is already a disc in there and I cant get it out.
Have tried rebooting with mouse key pressed., have tried rebooting holding F12, rebooting holding command O and P , have tried pushing the ejectb button when rebooting. But nada.
Ipod died last week, video camera on the blink yesterday, am having a bad electronic week!!!
Has it died or is there another solution..Help please.

I'm not sure I understand the connection between iCloud and this problem. Is it simply a problem of coincidental timing (ie, the problem happened after you set up iCloud)? If so, there's almost certainly no connection between these two events.
Where are you getting the files you're trying to open, and what specifically happens when you try to open them?

Hmm, "Use Adobe Reader" should launch the PDF outside of Firefox in the stand-alone Adobe Reader application, so seeing it in a tab is something of a puzzle.
Could you check your version of Adobe Reader? For Windows 7, you normally would have the Reader XI series (Reader 11), which has had several updates. From inside Adobe Reader, you can use Help > Check for Updates to make sure it's current.
In Firefox, could you check your Adobe Acrobat plugin version or possibly versions? You can view that on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. If you find multiple versions, this can cause problems and may need to be cleaned up manually (post back on that for suggestions).
Sometimes, the settings file which stores those download handler preferences becomes corrupted and there's not much else to do than to rename or remove that file and let Firefox rebuild it.
To do that, open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a new window (Windows Explorer window) listing various settings files.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Start Firefox back up again and "PDF Files" should be back to their default setting of "Preview in Firefox". Try changing that to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" and test to see whether there's any improvement.

I have been struggling with the Preview that came with Yosemite. When I add text it is always justified and I can't change any style properties. Preview always opens without thumbnails, but I want thumbnails.

Barney-15E, thanks for pointing out the A icon to change the style of text that I create. I overlooked that completely.
Eric Root, what I meant was that I want preview to always open in Thumbnail mode. But I think I figured that one out. There is a Preview Preference tab for PDF which has an option of "Always show sidebar" when Opening for the first time.
It was helpful but perplexing to know from Barney-15E that Preview support docs are not up to date. Except, I never saw such features in Preview, so maybe that doc is a description of things to come?
While googling around, I also found many people had the same complaint I do about another feature: the Text box always positions in the middle of the page, rather than where you first click on the document. Apparently I'm not the only one who found Preview really lacking with the Yosemite release. Someone even figured out how to install the prior Preview 7.0 version...

Is Preview open? Copy/paste the following into Terminal in Utilities and hit return. Look through the output, which may give you a clue as to what is open.

Ok, maybe what they’re calling Creative Cloud is merely your Adobe ID, an e-mail and password to login with. The LR5 6 update link is probably what you want to download—all updates are downloads, anyway, so there’s no need to have a disc reader as long as you have internet and the serial number.

Another issue might be that what you think is a serial number is a redemption code that needs to be converted to a serial number using this website: http://www.adobe.com/go/getserial A clue that you have a redemption code is that it has letters and numbers. A serial number is just numbers and the first few are 1160-something.

First, I suggest you download
Microsoft Safety Scanner or
Malicious Software Removal Tool to run a full scan.
The error messages here seems to be caused by the corrupted registries, which related with the folder association.

Once done, right-click the REG file and choose Merge. Alternately, you can open the Registry Editor and then using the
