Preview exposé (F10) puts all windows in-line, why?

Hey all, here's the scenario. I open up a bunch of PDFs that I'd like to read in Preview, and then hit F10 (application Exposé). All the windows show up in one line instead of all over the screen. This is annoying as it forces the windows to be much smaller than they would really have to be, to a point where some windows are on top of each other in the Exposé.

Anyone know why this is the case? Is this the way it is meant to be? Or does anyone else think this is a problem? Thanks!

Same thing happens on my computer, so I suppose it is set up like that.

SHORT VERSION: When I have my MBP hooked up to a 2nd monitor, sometime when I invoke the "all windows" mode in Exposé, it puts all the windows one one screen (usually the larger second screen) -- meanwhile if there are any minimized windows, it will "stack" them on the second screen at full size.
* This doesn't happen all the time. And I haven't quite figured out what conditions "cause" it.
* If I restart, the problem goes away.
* Mousing over a window only works correctly on the second screen (trying to hover over a window on the screen with the "minimized" windows -- those don't respond)

You should fit 16 spaces of apps/folder icons per page. So, from your post, what is happening is that on page 1 you have 3 rows of 4 apps each then 1 row of 2 apps. On page 2 you have 1 app.
You can easily fix this via iTunes. Connect your iPod Touch to iTunes and to the following:
1. Touch and hold the app icon that you want to move (In this case it would be your sole icon on page2)
2. This will put you in edit mode for apps while they will all begin to shake
3. Grap the app with your finger and move it to the left edge of the screen
4. This will move it to page 1 and then you can place it wherever you want
Now you will all 15 apps on page 1.

HT1386 I just reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8. After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes. My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem. Help!

I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.
Nothing seems to have helped the situation.

How to put grouped results all on one line.

I amt trying to get Principal, Interest, Principal YTD, Interest YTD from a transaction table to get them all on one line, but I can't seem to get it. I have a script here that can run without modification to see what I have here. The very last query is
incorrect, as it puts each value on a separate line, but it demonstrates what I am getting so far. What I want is one account number with 4 columns, as above mentioned. Keep in mind, in this illustration, YTD is last year and forward:

I have a new iPod Touch and PC running Windows 7. I want to upload pictures from my PC to my iPod. The best I can do right now is to create a new subdirectory on my PC and put all the pictures I want in that subdirectory. I want many subdirectories! ??

I have a new iPod Touch. I also run Windows 7 on my desktop PC. I have tried to post pictures from my PC to the iPod. But the only way you can do this that I know of, is to create a subdirectory on the PC and put all of your pictures that you want on the iPod in that subdirectory. Then you must use iTunes to synchronize the PC subdirectory with photos on the iPod. But I want many subdirectories to organize my pictures on the iPod. Can you do this??, it doesn't look to me like you can!??

Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

How can I close all windows in Preview?

I can't seem to find a way to close all windows in Preview.
Can somebody try this and see if they get the same result I do.
1. Copy an image into the clipboard.
2. Open Preview
3. Hold down command-N for about 20 seconds.
You should end up with dozens of windows with the image that you copied.
Now, try to close them.
I've unchecked 'Restore windows when quitting and re-openng apps' in System Preferences
I've typed in the 'defaults write com.apple.Preview NSQuitAlwaysKeepsWindows' hack in the terminal window
I've quit Preview with the 'option' button held down and 'Quit and Close All Windows' showing in the menu.
No matter what I do, the windows keep coming back every time I start Preview.
This 'force restore' feature of Lion is starting to get really annoying.

If I hold down the option key and go to Preview->File the Close Window menu item changes to Close all

Running Mac OS X 10.7.2 on my MacBook Air, Control-Shift-W produces a Snow Leopard-like expose for all windows.
While useful, this keyboard shortcut is wreaking havoc with my BBEdit settings. (Control-Shift-W is used to toggle "Selected text only" in the "Find" window.)
Does anyone know a way to alter or disable this system shortcut? I haven't been able to find any information regarding this shortcut and I fear I may have altered an underlying property (using "defaults write…" at the command line) and I don't know how to revert what I (may) have done.

I suspect that it's busy trying to mount a network file system of some type.
Are there any errors in your logs that seem appropriate (viewable via Applications->Utilities->Console?)

Exposé show all windows of all spaces.

Hello Folks,
Is there a way to make Exposé show all my windows from all application from all my spaces. And I mean using the "All Windows" feature, not the "Application Windows".
This is really the only thing I miss in OSX. (I'm a new user)

Ok....Got "Problem 2 and 4" solved....still trying to figure out this pop up everytime I click something...it's crazy how fast the pop up blinks...maybe once or 3 blinks then nothing till you close the window, then pop up then disappears...then click something
else and pop up then gone....never seen this before...ive seen it when you tried to get online which turned out to be a virus on a customers cpu I worked on some years ago, I think it has something to do with the deleted files that I spoke of on last
post...I notice it does it on start up as well.....think something is trying to install but not sure. Need to figure out where the appdata or start up folder and see whats in there....maybe it's in there.......so I might wait to see how it acts in the next
couple days for "Problem 1"...but other than that it's running like a champ...so right now I just want to get the pop up windows to stop........thx again for everyone's help on this.

Go to System Preferences - Accessibility - Voiceover - turn off Voiceover. The shortcut is command-F5, so possibly you pressed that accidentally.

there are multiple ways how to start Firefox in private browsing mode. If you want to use a shortcut parameter, follow the instructions below:
# Create firefox shortcut;
# Right-click on the shortcut, choose properties;
# Edit location (not name), file path and file name followed by the command line argument "-private", e.g.: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -prvate;
# Save changes.
When you double click the modified shortcut you have just created, Firefox will start in private browsing window.

The bookmarks toolbar is there but has no item buttons on it. How do I get the items back for this toolbar? Also would like to know if the toolbars can be put on the same line to make more room on the page (drag & drop) ??

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar
* Make sure that you have the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
* Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
* If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
* If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" then click the "Restore Default Set" button
You can only move the content from a toolbar onto other toolbars if all toolbars support that feature. You need to check that in the options of each toolbar.

In Mail, my preview of incoming emails changed to one line only. How can I get the bigger view?

My view of emails has changed suddenly to only one line. It used to be a bigger window, allowing me to read part of the body of the email, while viewing all new emails....how can I get that view back? Is that a long header? I try to click on long header but it is greyed out and unavailable even though I added the long header icon to my task bar. Help??

Hello Macdaddy and thanks for your prompt response. Unfortunately for some reason, when I go to View, from Preferences, there is no PREVIEW, nor option for desired number of lines, option there at all? Not sure why? Any other ideas? Thanks SO much for your attention to this issue of mine.

"All windows" function crashing macbook pro

Hi,
I'm having problems with the "All Windows" function that is on the F3 key (macbook pro mid 2010 on Snow Leopard) that I put in my active screen corners or Hot corners as I thought they were called. I bound the "All Windows" function to my bottom left corner and find myself occasionally crashing the whole computer if I use it when I have a few applications open. Sometimes it happens when I have a lot open and sometimes not so much i.e. Safari, Chrome, Skype (with no calls going) and itunes. Sometimes I feel I do an action too abruptly and it crashes, say I open a page in a browser thats still loading, go straight to "all windows" to go see something else and the screen goes black and any noise that was playing keeps skipping. The only way out is to reboot.
I remember having an issue with gfxcardstatus when I upgraded from v2.1, in which my screen would go black with a line of pixels up top that was screwy. The rest of the computer was fine. Reboot wasn't necessary to fix that. Once I reverted to v2.1 all was fine again. I don't know if gfxcardstatus has anything to do with what I'm dealing with currently but as far as I can remember thats the only problem i've had with this computer until now.
Otherwise I also upgraded from 4Gb of RAM to 8 back in september but have only been having this issue for the past few months. I don't know if it's my RAM that maybe be faulty.
All that I know is that "All Windows" function recently crashed the computer. I'm not sure if it does it with my other hot corners which are bound to "Spaces" since I don't recall what I was doing when I crashed other times (more than a dozen times).
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I've been verifying Activity Monitor while using the "All windows" function and its CPU usage (Process name of WindowServer) jumps to 10-15% when I use the function. Could it be just that simple that the computer just crashes if this were not enough CPU available when I use "All windows" or is my RAM or computer faulty for crashing at that CPU jump.

Preview exposé (F10) puts all windows in-line, why?
