Preview fine in Safari but WAY OFF in Firefox, Flock, Opera....

This is really frustrating me because I can't seem to get the pages to look the same in every browser.  I don't have IE (I have a Mac) so I have no idea what it looks like...  Please help if you can.
The page is located: http://www.promarevents.com/VA/work.html
The css is located: http://www.promarevents.com/VA/va1.css
Here are some screenshots of what is going on:
Safari, this is how it should look...
This is Opera.  The image is pushed down and the text runs off the layer.  The same exact thing is happening in Flock and Firefox....
Flock having the same look.
I tried changing the code so it looked good in Firefox and Opera, but then Safari was way off...  I received the files from a friend who wants me to make some "minor" changes but this is frying my brain!  Thanks!

AlieneGirl,
Not having looked closely into the CSS, it seems that something in the background has an excessive fixed width, and the VA logo with the gradient seems to be centred in it, whereas the box is locked to the right edge.
If you use a sidebar and change its width, more and more of the VA logo becomes visible as the available width on screen is decreased.

  • Images look fine in Bridge, but way off when opened in Photoshop

    Not sure what I've done to my system, but am now having some color-management woes. I am using Photoshop and Bridge CS5.1, and for some reason, the color-management is not consistent between Bridge and PS... although it used to be until just recently. I am on a Mac Pro tower with a properly calibrated monitor (using an Eye One Pro), and all my other color-managed applications are behaving just fine, but I have this discrepancy now within Adobe where if I view an image in Bridge, it looks correct, but when I open that same image in Photoshop, it comes up way too light and desaturated. I have verified that a correct profile is embeded in each image, but this happens regardless of the source file. I have opened up grayscale images with a dot gain or gamma profile embedded, images with no profile embedded, sRGB and Adobe 1998 profiled images, and they all open up too bright. It seems like some kind of conversion must be happening, but I can't understand what that would be. Color Settings is set to preserve embedded and ask when opening for mismatches, but that's the same as it's always been on my system. I understand without a "suite" install, I cannot access the Creative Suite Color Settings dialog to sync color across multiple Adobe apps, but things have been fine for years between my PS & Bridge, so clearly I've done something wrong. It's also worth noting that RAW images in Bridge open up looking identical in the Photoshop RAW processing dialog, so somehow this is more related to TIFF, PSD & JPEG files.
    I have used the Cocktail app for general system maintenance on my Mac, and in the dialog to delete old cahce files, I do recall it had an option to clear Color Sync cache (along with a bunch of other caches), so maybe that "clean up" somehow dirsupted my color matching abilities?
    I was on CS5 when I noticed this problem, so I tried uninstalling that, downloading the slightly newer CS5.1 and re-installing, but the problem persists. Maybe the uninstaller app doesn't get rid of all the hidden support files, or maybe this is something else entirely? Have trashed prefs files and relaunched, still same problem.
    Note how image on right is much lighter, shadows start to look posterized, colors lose saturation. Left is Bridge and Right is Photoshop. Screenshot done on calibrated monitor.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Thanks for your reply. Screenshot of my Color Settings attached. These are the same settings I've been using for many years.
    What's most interesting is your reminder to look at Soft Proofing. I normally only use that when prepping an image for print, and want to predict what different paper types will "do" to my image.,, i.e. matte paper has less d-max, etc. SO, My assumption was that Soft Proofing is normally in the OFF position unless I turn it on, and/or toggle it on-off with Cmd-Y keyboard shortcut one engaged. BUT, your assessment was spot-on, in that when I opened up the View > Proof Colors dialog, it was set to Working CMYK. Not sure why, how, or when that became the default.
    In all my time years with Photoshop, I've never needed to worry about soft proofing being ON without my permission, so I'm unclear how this came about. I honestly don't even know what the default has been for all the time that this was not on my radar as being a problem, I only know that when I did opt to soft proof an image, I woulp open the Proof Colors dialog, choose the appropriate device-specific paper profile to simulate, and then turn it back off when done. It would make sense to me that the default display in PS should match the (hopefully calibrated) monitor as a starting point.
    Several more screenshots below, experimenting with various Proof conditions. This one is a 16-bit Grayscale image, with my usual 1.8 Gray Gamma color space embedded. This was my first experiment, not knowing what the correct default should have been (or was for many years). My assumption was that proofing the same color space as the document (G 1.8 = G 1.8), there should be no visible difference, but in fact there is. The left image is open in PS being soft proofed to it's own G 1.8 color space, and it appears visibly brighter than the same image to the right in Bridge.
    Now here's the same comparison, with Proofing set to G 2.2, which should be wrong, but visually looks like a much better match.
    Next I tried a color image, with Document Profile as the proof condition. Again, the Bridge image on the right looks correct, the PS image on the left looks washed out by comparison.
    Here is the same image comparison, now with Monitor RGB enabled (which pulls my current monitor profile as the device to simuulate). I'd say this is either perfect, or a much better match. This also makes sense and correlates to my suspicion that PS should be showing you things in your native monitor profile until you ask it to do otherwise with a custom soft-proofing scenario.
    So now that I think I've figured it out, I leave the Monitor RGB as the device to simulate, close the image, and re-open the image just to be sure, and this is what I get...
    Essentially back to the same problem. I verified that View > Proof Colors is still set to my Monitor RGB, but it's as if it's not really being applied. SO, I changed it so something else, and then changed it back, and then it looks correct... as if I somehow need to kick it and remind it to do what it's already set to do.
    So, the short answer is THANK YOU for reminding me to look at the proofing setup, becasue no I at least have a kind of workaround and know where to look. The tricker part is to understand why the default doesn't really stick to the Monitor RGB (if that is even the correct place for it to stay set to), and how or why did i get off into Working CMYK in the first place, as that's not a setting I've ever used on purpose.
    Thanks again,
    Eric

  • Pages preview fine in DW, but CSS appears to be ignored on live website

    This is very basic, but I can't figure it out.  I am the successor webmaster for a very simple 15-page website.   The site has some layout issues that need correcting, and I have rewritten the pages using more of a CSS-based layout since (among other reasons) I don't understand the original tables-based layout.  I used the DW twoColFixedLtHdr.css pre-fab layout.  The re-written pages look fine in the DW and preview fine in Safari and Firefox. The pages did not look right once I uploaded them, so I replaced the pages with the originals.  It appears the stylesheet is being ignored.  I changed the name of the css file to "newstylesheet" to get of the upper-case letters, and have looked over everything closely but can't find the issue.
    This is a sample page. http://living4zachary.org/whowearetestpage.html
    None of the CSS formatting is there, most notably the left sidebar should have a black blackground and the main text should wrap around it since the sidebar is floated left.
    On the host site, all of the html pages are in a sub-directory called public_html. The newstylesheet.css file is a first-level file, right off the main root.
    Here is the code, brought forward from a temple, attaching the style-sheet:
      <link href="../newstylesheet.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    Here is the code establishing at the beginning of the sidebar:
    <div class="newstylesheet" id="sidebar1"><!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="SidebarLinks" --><a href="index.html">Home</a>
          <p><a href="aboutzac.html">About Zachary</a></p>
          Who We Are</a></p>
          <p><a href="whatissca.html">What Is S.C.A.</a></p>
          <p><a href="#">How You Can Help!</a></p>
          <p><a href="upcomingevents.html">Upcoming Events
          </a>
          <p><a href="oursponsors.html">Our Sponsors</a></p>
          <p><a href="contactus.html">Contact Us</a></p>
          <p> </p> <!-- end #sidebar1 -->
      <!-- InstanceEndEditable --></div>
    <!-- end #sidebar1 -->
      <!-- InstanceEndEditable --></div>
      <div id="mainContent"><!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="MainContentArea" -->
    I don't think the problem is in this code, since DW is perfectly happy with it.  Somehow, the css is linking up with the page on DW, but not on the server.
    This has really got me baffled.  Can somebody please help me?
    Here is a picture of the root directory on the host server, where you can see the newstylesheet.css and the public_html sub-directory that contains all of the live pages and the whowearetestpage:

    Ned and Nadia:
    Your replies are very appreciated.  They have solved my problem for the test page, and I'm very confident for the other 15 or so pages to follow.
    Nadia:  I wish the photo would have attached.  The newstylesheet is there plain as day when I look on the server's file manager.  But, I also couldn't pull it up when I tested it as you did.  There are other css files there that I could access.  They are all on the same file directory - some would open, some wouldn't.  Not only is newestylesheet listed on the server, I can download it and open it up.  This is very strange to me, but a wonderful piece of troubleshooting on your part.  (I have looked a hundred times for some kind of typo, but it just isn't there.)
    Ned:  It worked like a charm when I moved the stylesheet to public_htm.   In my DW file directory, I have the css file on the main root and pages in public_htm sub-directory - and that's the same way DW uploaded them to the server.  That's the way the original pages were organized, and that's the way they "appear" to be on the server.  However, since the subject css file was "there but not there", it just wasn't working.
    I'm not familiar with how this forum works, but I noticed a "Solved Problem" button.  I'm going to try to click that for both answers.
    You guys are great.  I am so grateful for your help.

  • Site fine in Safari, but not in Firefox

    so I made a simple photo page in iWeb. the page works fine in safari, but I actually get a 404, page not found error when I look at it in Firefox.
    now the even weirder thing is I get this error on my macbook pro, but it works just fine in firefox on my powermac G5. I've also come across a pc user who can't see it properly in firefox, while other pc users can...
    very confused, thoughts?

    if you are tying the address in make sure the W in iWeb is a capital.
    other than that you might supply the address so someone can attempt to view it.
    sounds like an addressing problem though
    good luck

  • Created site in IWEB 08, works on Safari but looks different with Firefox?

    I created a site with Iweb 08. I used Safari as the viewing browser and was happy with how the site looked. I then used Fetch to FTP the folder to the web server. When viewing the page on the server with Safari it was great, but when viewed with Firefox it was all frigged up. I didn't try it with Internet Destroyer cause personally I don't like it. I then published the page folder to Web.Mac.Com. The site works great on both browsers when accessed through web.mac.com. Is there something missing when accessing the site on my original server? My thought now is to remove the site from the original server and just bite the bullet and fly it on web.mac.com. Appreciate any thoughts

    I think part of my problem was trying to move content made with Dream Weaver into IWEB. My site was made with Dream weaver originally. I pasted it into IWEB, thinking it was possible to do. It was to a point. I had to redo all my links and buttons and so on, but the pictures and text content seemed to look fine. After somewhat completing the site I published to a folder and used Fetch FTP to move the site to the server I was using. That is when i got the different looks in different browsers. I then published to the .mac server as I had a 60 day free trial. Low and behold the site looked good on the 2 browsers I have on my new IMAC. I switched over to the Windows side of the IMAC and logged into the site with IE 7. It looked good there too. So I ended up going with the .mac account to host the site
    www.unitedpuett.com. I then had to redirect from Network Solutions, my registrar for the site, so when the address was typed in it would direct to the .mac server. This was another chore but was solved easily by
    http://networkcreators.ning.com/profiles/blog/show?id=492224%3ABlogPost%3A50148
    It all seems to work as it should.
    On another note, i read that Microsoft was releasing IE 8 beta. The big change was they were finally standardizing their browser to match all the others when opening pages.

  • Forwarded to godaddy domain. works on safari but not explorer or firefox

    I finally figured how to use my website so that when you type in the domain it redirects to the mobile me website. However, it is working just great on safari but not on explorer or firefox.

    I have always used GoDaddy's forward and masking utilities and its worked great. When Apple updated iWeb to 08 with the ability to auto forward, I had lots of issues and thus went back to setting up my GoDaddy preferences to auto-forward and mask my site. GoDaddy has the very best phone support on the planet which makes up for one of the worst websites on the internet. Call them up and have them walk you through auto-forwarding and masking. • Crystal layout previews fine in Crystal, but not in SAP.

    Hi,
    I've built a simple report in Crystal based upon the Goods Receipt Header and Goods Receipt Rows Table.
    I've included the DocKey@ paremeter
    I've set the correct select record: {OPDN.DocEntry} = {?DocKey@}
    When I preview the report in Crystal, Crystal asks me to define a DocKey. I select 12 (because I know this has good data in SAP. My report works fine (see below).
    However, I've having difficulty generating the report from SAP. When I preview the report in SAP, it imports the correct DocKey into the layout via the DocKey@ parameter, but, it doesn't actually select any data (see below).
    I've checked the obvious things like ensuring SAP is generating the correct layout.
    Any ideas?
