  • Viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac

I have a pdf that I generated on a PC (Windows 7, using Acrobat 9). The front cover includes an image that was previously pdf'd then inserted as a cover graphic. When viewed using Acrobat Reader, everything looks fine both on a PC and a Mac. However, when viewed on a Mac using Preview for Mac, there are lines through the cover graphic.
Has anyone else come across problems viewing PC-generated pdfs in Preview for Mac?

I always find that Preview can garble certain graphic elements or even slightly alter the over-all color of the PDF. However, I also find it is a lot quicker to deal with PDFs, especially when it comes to printing. Sometimes I get a PDF that I send to print on our Canon copier and I end up canceling the print job after 10-15 minutes because it's still processing. I open that same PDF in Preview and it prints in less than a minute. The same can be said of InDesign so on certain jobs I end up exporting as a PDF and printing from Preview. This might say a lot about Adobe's Printing Engine... (sorry, off-topic)

  • Pdf duplication in Preview for Mac behaving differently

When duplicating a PDF in Preview for Mac, a new image window would open that I could click on to select, then rename and save elsewhere. Just recently, seems like in the last few days, Preview now behaves differently. Now when I select duplicate, a duplicate document is created in the same window but shows as a thumbnail in the sidebar. This is confusing as it appears that Preview is trying to create a duplicate of the document at the end of the original. I don't appear to have received any updates from Apple that would account for this sudden change in behaviour (shows Preview last modified 18th November). I don't appear to be able to change this in Preview's Preferences. Can I revert Preview to the previous behaviour? (I'm using latest version of Preview in Yosemite on a 24" iMac).

Is there any way to stop the slide show from proceeding automatically? I'd like to be able to click to advance to the next slide at my own speed. I know you can stop the show and then proceed manually, but the toolbar graphics then appear for a second at the bottom, which is distracting.

  • Preview in browser for Macs

Since IE is not available for Macs anymore how do I preview
my newly designed website in that browser to make sure there are no

You might want to try iCapture (www.danvine.com/icapture/) or

  • Office 2016 for Mac Preview

    Hello,
As I didn't found any forum for the Mac Preview version of office I'm posting this here.
I hope to find someone who will help.
When using one of the Microsoft Office 2016 application for the Mac (Preview), I’m randomly prompt to authentification  (a very clean pop-up windows that requests "Authentication required for the server: office15client.microsoft.com")
I cannot use the appliction (even with a document open in background) unless I deal with the “pop-up"
This happens only in the Corporate Network (the is a proxy) - never at home.
If I click on cancel the prompt goes away, and come back (3 times generally)
If I try to authenticate I’m always re-prompt with the same “pop-up” without any error message (I’ve tried up to 6 times …)
I have no control over the proxy ... so please don't post any solution involving Whitelisting ;-)
Thanks in advance to anyone that could help.

    Hi,
So this happens only in the Corporate Network behind the company proxy.
Office need to connect to Office service server during use. Might be your proxy server setting is blocking Office from connecting to the Internet. I would suggest you check with the IT/system administrator at your company for further help on the issue, make
sure that Office services can connect to the Internet through that proxy server.
Or if you do not rely on Office online functions at moment, such as cloud storage, etc. You can try disabling the option of “Allow Office to connect to the Internet” temporarily and see if issue persists:
Open your Office program, say, Word.
Click File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings
Click on Privacy Options from the left pane.
Untick the check box before "Allow Office to connect to the Internet"
By the way, this is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for Windows-based Microsoft Office client. Since your query is directly related to Office for mac, I would suggest you to post in the dedicated forum of
Office for Mac Preview, where you can get more experienced responses:

  • Preview Pop-Up Menus with third-party Player for mac

    Hi, everyone,
Does anyone have an idea, how i could preview my pop-up menus without burning and waisting a BD every time??
I just downloaded two different free BluRay players for mac, they both dont seem to have the option to open a Pop-up menu. (I really wonder, why that is so, i cannot imagine that this is so hard to develop…)
anyway, how do you guys do that?? is there any software out there that can do this?? I am at a point where i feel i would even pay for a software or get a windows software and run it via crossover, if nessesary...
Please help, i really want to preview my BluRay before i burn it on disc.
    Thank you very much,
    Niki

    Two methods:
I use Total Media Theater (5 or 6). It is not free, and I do not know if it is available for Mac. Popup menus and slideshow operation is the most challenging for emulators (which is what computer DVD/BD players are).
Burn to a DVD+RW. This is essential as a test step to burn to some disk.

  • No previews for PSD docs in mac finder

Hi Chris etal in the forum, I have no previews for just PSD docs in the mac finder for a week or so now. I can see other types of doc previews. I run snow leopard on a mac book pro that is about 2 years old. Oddly enough the trouble BEGan for me after running a normal maintainence script in ONYX (I clean the cashe about once a week or so). Could be coincidence. I just installed the little "patch' from adobe but that does not help. I can see the previews in the com/4 view but in com/3, where I usually hang out, there is no preview and pressing the space bar for quick look is the same, with no preview. Can anyone give me advise about what to do? It would be greatly appreciated. aloha, Uhane

I've been unable to find a Quick Look extension (Finder preview employs QL) which can build a composite from layers in a PSD.
That's a shame, because the concept can work, though I can't imagine taking on the task of compositing layers just to make a codec or Quick Look extension, but hey - the authors who've done it do sell product.
Here's a case where the FPV codec works fine:
It's damned handy when the thumbnails and previews actually work, and frankly this kind of integration really is something Adobe ought to provide.  They removed their codec way back when they had trouble because they apparently didn't have the savvy to get it right, claiming at the time that Windows was giving them trouble.  Either those rules have changed or there are smarter people out there, as the software I have been showing above does seem to work without causing system faults or usability problems.

As far as I know, the message preview feature is not available in Outlook 2011 for Mac. Since this forum is for general questions and feedback related to Outlook for Windows, you can post a question in the Outlook for Mac forum to confirm this:

  • When I have resized and saved an image in Photoshop (CS, version 8.0 for Mac) using image size, why is it so large when I open it in preview or another image viewer? Has it actually saved according to the size I specified?

When I have resized and saved an image in Photoshop (CS, version 8.0 for Mac) using image size, why is it so large when I open it in preview or another image viewer? Has it actually saved according to the size I specified?

You want to view the image at the Print Size, which represents the size that shows in the Image>Resize Dialog.
    View>Print Size
Since screen resolution is almost always lower that the print resolution (somewhere between 72 and 96 usually), images will always look bigger on the screen, unless you view them at print size.
(apple Retina displays have a much higher resolution than normal screens, closer to the average print size resolution)

Assuming you have quit and reopened the Office applications and you have shut down and then rebooted OS X with no change in the results uninstalling and reinstalling Office has been a standard "quick fix" for MS Office problems for well over 10 years. It works often enough to be well worth trying.

  • Previewing for Explorer on a Mac

I'm using CS3 on a Mac (OS X) but my audience is all on PC's.
Pages I preview in Firefox or Opera, even Explorer 5.0 for Mac look
good, but they are not displaying the same on the newer versions of
    Explorer for the PC.
Any suggestions on what I'm missing or could do differently,
    are appreciated.
    Thanks

On a Mac you can tab through a Excel spread sheet - moves horiontally through the sheet. The Return key moves you vertically.
I believe this is the same on Windows ??

  • Apparently, I downloaded "Kindle for Mac, Twice. It appears in preview and desktop. cannot access nor register. Please advise?

Apprently, I downloaded "Kindle for Mac" twice. It appears on my Desktop and Preview. Cannot access not register it
    Please advise?

Yes, I didn't think it was very good either!
You are correct in I should have said "Repair Disk" - Verify Permissions is not available on the maxtor drive ( it is dimmed) in Repair Disk.
Until now, the drive has worked perfectly, and I did not install any of Maxtors software when I originally connected the drive to this system, I just formatted it as a Mac Extended and it worked great. It was only after the fresh Erase & Install - even then it worked fine. It was only when I created a new account that the problem started.
What I have done is get hold of a demo version of a program called "Mac Drive 6" which allows you to read any Mac formatted disk or drive on a Windows system, - fortunately i still have my Windows XP Pro system which I have also connected to my home network.
So for the next four days (the length of the demo) I can access all of my files on the disk and copy them to my Windows system.
This is really great because I have all my data and images back which were my biggest concern.
I thought I might get another drive anyhow, and when I have everything backed up on a new drive and on the Windows system, I can then reformat the Maxtor drive and start afresh with it.
Thanks for all your help anyhow.

  • Aperture reprocesses previews for all videos every time I open it

    Hello,
I use Aperture to organise all my videos shot on Canon 7d and an old HD Cam (705 vids, 381GB). Whereas my stills are stored in the aperture library, the videos are imported into eparate folders named after each project inside one master video folder.
I do this because it is an easy way to work with all of them in FCP (X), importing them without moving them, keywords from the folders coming across (and also because  FCP used to incorrectly display the meta data- date and time imported shown as the file's creation details, when accessed via the aperture library menu from FCP, this bug has probably since been corrected)..
After restoring from a time machine back up recently, Aperture now reprocesses previews for all 705 movies every single time I open it, reboot or not. It doesn't hang on any particular file or crash but (as it's a mid 2010 MBP) simply slows Aperture down below useable for a few mins until they are done.
Post import processing set to camera previews, new projects always create previews ticked.
What am I doing wrong please? Should I attempt to fix the database?
    Best
    Ben

As a work-around -  hold down the shift-key, when launching Aperture. That will defer the generation of Previews, so you can start working immediately.
What is your Aperture version and MacOS X version?
After restoring from a time machine back up recently, Aperture now reprocesses previews for all 705 movies every single time I open it, reboot or not.
Was Aperture the only thing you restored from a Time Machine backup? Or did you restore more of your system? If you reinstalled or upgraded the system, there may be now video codecs missing. In that case check, if reinstalling additional video codec (Perian, Flip-4-Mac, or similar) may help.
If the reinstalled aperrture library has been created on a different mac, there may be permission problems after restoring from Time Machine. Check the permissions and ownership on your video folders.
Are you touching the videos in any way, when using them in Final cut? Using stabilize or something? If the " last modiied " date is changed by Final Cut, this might prompt Aperture to recreate the preview.
