Preview has a green color cast

Howdy,
I am having an issue with Preview where it gives my images a green color cast and higher saturation/contrast. This also happens when I look at them in Safari. BUT the images look fine in Photoshop, Firefox, Capture One RAW software and any other non-apple software.
Please let me know if you have any idea as to what is happening! Thanks!

Everybody, report preview problems to apple at:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
My biggest problem in preview 4.0 is it freezes while trying to view large images across four apple LCD's. Sometimes I see a gray screen.

  • My manipulated images come out with a green color cast and poor quality

I manage my photos with ACDSee, but use Photoshop CS3 for much of my editing. The image leaves ACDSee with rich true colors, and while I'm editing in Photoshop the image looks like I want it. But when I save the image and view it in ACDSee, it now is faded, has a green color cast and looks faded, dull and shallow. What do you think is happening? Thanks.  Rickrans

One other place to look....  If you shoot raw images, there's a separate configuration for the color space the Camera Raw converter delivers its results in.  Click the little link at the bottom-center of the Camera Raw dialog.  If you want to work in the sRGB color space, change it as shown here:

  • Why is my black and white video showing purple/green color cast from ProRes 422 h264?

When transcoding from ProRes 422 to h264 in Adobe Media Encoder, I'm seeing both green and purple color cast on my black and white video.  ProRes on top, h264 on bottom.

What do you make of the fact that the same video, encoded in MPEG Streamclip does not have the issue on the same hardware, played in Quicktime Player?
A valid data point for consideration, but the only way to know with certainty is to get the image onto a calibrated TV.
Observation will always trump deduction.  So...observe!  (Just be sure to do it accurately with a calibrated TV.)
The Vimeo preset is creating H.264 MP4 files.  AVCHD is a very specific subset of the H.264 codec, and cannot be generated by PP.

  • Printing from LR has a different color cast.

I have Windows Vista and the latest version of LR and everytime I print using LR the print preview shows a different color and so does the print. When i use the same picture and print using PSCS3 or any other application it looks good. I have tried changing all the settings from within LR under the printer properties but nothing seems to help.
I changed all of the computers default profile to ProPhoto and now everything from within LR looks good but everything else looks awfull.
I also tried changing the PSCS3 to ProPhoto hoping that would help but it seems the only thing to do is not to color manage when in PSC3.
It seems its only when I shoot in RAW.
    Please help!

There are problems with printing in Lightroom from Vista. Some drivers don't allow you to turn off color management in the driver. Sometimes the only remedy is to let the driver manage. Also make sure you have the very very latest version of the driver.
    >I changed all of the computers default profile to ProPhoto and now everything from within LR looks good but everything else looks awfull.
That is an extremely bad idea. You need to profile your monitor. Never assume a profile such as prophoto. At most, delete the profile in the monitor's preference, effectively making your computer assume sRGB for the monitor.
    >I also tried changing the PSCS3 to ProPhoto hoping that would help but it seems the only thing to do is not to color manage when in PSC3.
And that is the absolute worst idea. In Photoshop, set a standard space as the working space, such as sRGB, adobeRGB, or prophoto and set it up to ALWAYS respect embedded profiles. Otherwise you are guaranteeing incorrect color. Also, do not try doing any color critical work without profiling your monitor. Not doing so will always frustrate your efforts at printing. Lastly, never assume a canned profile for your monitor. They are almost always incorrect and actually have corrupt perceptual rendering profiles, tripping up color in Lightroom. • Adobe Camera RAW (All Versions) Import Canon .CR2 / RAW images with an orange / green color cast.

All versions of Adobe Camera RAW including the latest 7.3 import .CR2 images with a greenish / orange color cast.
Tested on 7D, and 5D III
Makes Hardwood floors, and flesh tones look abysmal.
Canon's Digital Photo Professional renders the colors fine, as does ACDSee 5.0 Pro (when viewing)  Exporting from ACDSee however is another story as things look even worse than Adobe.  DPP can export perfectly.
Changes to Color Gammut / Space have little or no effect.

    Good day!
You might want to post on the dedicated Camera Raw Forum.

  • 5D Markiii and a green color cast

Does anyone else experience a green cast/tint to their images while shooting in JPG with a 5DMkiii? I shoot using AWB and have even adjusted the color on the quick screen histogram to try and compensate....but skintones consistantly look green. My monitor is calibrated and I've tried shooting using custom white balance and Kelvin. Nothing helps.

Does it happen everywhere at all times? Inside, outside, day, night, fluorescent lights and mixed lighting, or does it happen sporadically?
White balance frustration is 1/2 the reason I always shoot RAW and not JPG. It alone is as big a factor as all the other reasons combined in my own thinking. So much more latitude to fix WB in RAW.
Quite so. Fluorescent lights especially can generate spurious colors that are hard to correct. The imitation light bulbs with an embedded fluorescent tube are often the worst offenders. I have one in my desk lamp at work, and it projects a disagreeable green tint on the gray walls. (Since those walls have several of my pictures on them, it's particularly annoying.) Fortunately, those bulbs are losing ground to LEDs, whose light is more pleasing to the eye and figures to be more familiar to cameras and photo editors. Canon provides a "white fluorescent" WB setting, but I think it's aimed at removing excess pink, not excess green.

  • Pink color cast on macbook pro 15" with retina display

    Hi,
I just got my very first apple computer a few weeks ago, but I had a annoying pink color cast of the display.
I changed my first deivce but even the 2nd had the same issue..
I noticed, that even the Apple logo shines in a pink cast, so it seems to be an issue of the display light itself.
Trying to calibrate the display with a spyder did not work, i got a very strange green color cast what seems to be clear, if the main problem is not the display itself,
    but the display light.
I went to the Apple Sore in Hamburg and I found out, that all new macbook pros 15" with retina display had the same issue, but not older macbooks or some  macbook pro 15" with retina display from clients.
As a photographer, I find this pink cast very annoying and I gave back my 2nd macbook pro 15" with retina display..
Is there a way, to get a macbook pro 15" with retina display without a pink cast, where the Apple logo shines in pure white instead of a pink color cast?
I don´t want a pink apple logo, nor a display with a pink cast..

  • Color casts

    I am getting the mesage:-
"Non-neutral gray patches. The gray patch in row 4, column 3, has a significant color cast. Please reshoot chart carefully to avoid color casts and try again." These are RAW images from my Panasonic FZ200.
I shot the first try in the garden against a concrete post surrouinding by a grey weathered fence in bright winter noon/early afternoon time sun. I then tried again with a large sheet of black paper as the backgroud with the sun approx 45 degrees to the chart. Same conditions.
If I import the RAW images into Photoshop Elements 11 "As shot" I find that the offending square reads:-
Noon time - R217,G220, B220 approx. As I move the cursor Band G remain near or the same value but R can be up to 3 or so points higher
Early afternoon - R201,G201, B191 approx. As I move the cursor R and G remain near or the same value but B can be up to 10 or so points lower
What could be causing the color casts and how can I avoid it. grass and other plants are a large feature in the surroundings.

I have reshot the chart using Daylight and Shade white balance; used auto before. The Profile editor has now made some profiles.
I have installed the *.dcpr files in:-
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera\Panasonic DMC-FZ200\Panasonic DMC-FZ200 Daylight.dcpr and
    Panasonic DMC-FZ200 Shade.dcpr
I now wish to try these out.
When I open a RW2 image in Elements 11 and goto the camera tab the only choice I have is Adobe Standard.
Am I installing the dcpr files in the correct place?

  • Import: green dark cast???

A DVD+RW was given to me of a public domain TV show. I would like to import it into iMoveHD to edit and add menus ect...
Using a DVcamcorder DV>IN I can import the movie into Imovie5 but everything has a green/purple cast. people look like martians and there are no reds anywhere. The DVD given me looks fine on a TV and it even looks right on the camcorder screen as Im importing.
I tried even taping the DVD (on VHS) and recording the DVD onto DV tape, them importing into iM5. Both give same result=martians. I can't get rid of the green cast.
Importing all other VHS tapes via DV Camcoder method work perfect.
    What am I missing?
    Help.

If you have a DVD which presumably is in MPEG-2 ,e.g. in standard DVD format, drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD (or rip it with Mac the Ripper, free software) to the desktop and open the VOB files within with MPEG Streamclip and use the "file, export to DV" function to export the MPEG-2 to DV then use that in iMovie. If there are nore than one VOB, you can do them separately though MPEG Streamclip will offer to open them all in sequence for one big clip.
If the MPEG looks bad in Streamclip then it is bad MPEG, if not this will do it.

  • 2.1.2, previews with color cast

After updating, previews are generated with a heavy color cast, some green, red and yellow casts. White balance and tint are all wrong, what's amazing is that a few of them are fine which have the same shooting settings as the wrong ones, going back to 2.1.1, real weird, anyone with similar situation? any fix?

  • Palm Pre camera preview has green tint

I have had my Pre for about 1 week and have taken many pictures with it (uploading to facebook, etc.).  As of today, when I launch the camera application, the "preview" I see on the display has a green tint to the picture.  If I press the camera or spacebar to take the picture, the resulting image looks fine.  It is just this preview of the picture that has this green tint.  All other aspects of the display look fine - running video, looking at pictures, etc.
I have tried the basic reset and hardware tests but nothing has changed.  Any ideas?

yeah i don't find any options in there either...
i guess they are working on it....
and some exposure and effects might also do on the next update.. and also ability to add date on the photo is another feature too..

Try running in Safe mode.  This leaves out some video drivers.  Which results in machine not using advanced video hardware.
