Preview Hover over Link

Using Safari 3.1.1 with OS 10.4.11.
This is not one of those really important issues, but it has always sort of bugged me. With one forum that I visit frequently, if I hold the mouse over an item in the listing of postings, a small window hovers over the web page with a preview of the text in the posting. I actually like this feature as it helps me quickly decide if I want to read more. But the preview window doesn't always stay up long enough and I have to move the mouse away, then back onto the link to get it back, with a delay before the preview reappears.
Is there any way to control the amount of time that the preview window stays up? I tried Firefox on the same web site and the preview window is much shorter in length but of similar duration. This makes me think that it is related to a browser setting and not something the web site is controlling. On the other hand, very few web sites seem to produce such preview windows.
Thanks.

This is not something you can control from the browser; it is solely under the control of the web site creator(s).

  • Once in a while cursor will no longer hover over links/shortcuts?

Every once in a while after my 13" MBP (bought in July 2010) has been on for a while and has been put into standby a few times over the course of the day, the cursor will no longer "hover" over links and what not.  I am trying to find a good way to explain this.
For example, when this occurs, when I hover over the close window red button or the minimize button, it will no longer show the minus or the "x."  And when I hover over favorites on the top bar of safari, they will no longer darken when I hover over them.
One time when this happened, I accidentially clicked and dragged one of the favorites shortcuts from the top bar of safari and it wouldn't let go of it.  I could not close the program and I tried to shut it down, but it wouldn't so I had to do a hard shut down by pressing the button on the notebook's case.
Any idea of what is happening?

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4.0+ SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''

  • Want to import Edge animation as hover over link reaction, is there a good tutorial for this?

Hey guys, I just got Edge Animate yesterday, and I understand most of the animation techniques since it's very similar to After Effects. However I am having trouble integrating it with Dreamweaver. So far I can publish is as an .html file and hotlink to it. What this does right now in a preview browser, I will click on the link connected to the EdgeAnimate.html file and it will open a new window, play the animation and that's it. (I know you can set images in the animation to thier own links as well, just don't have it set up yet)
However, what I actually want to accomplish is to use these animations in my main dreamweaver website layout I am currently working on right now. As an example, let's say I have 4 link buttons in this crude layout:
    -Images             |              empty space                |
    -Videos             |              empty space                |
    -About              |              empty space                |
    -Contact            |              empty space                |
When I hover over the links on the lefthand side, let's say the "Images" link, I'd like a short animation I made in Edge to play in the    | empty space |   part of my web layout. When I hover over the other links, I want the animation they trigger to be different. When I click on the link, it will take you to a different page.
I hope this made sense and someone can lend me a hand, it will be greatly appreciated. I am pretty new to Dreamweaver so many of the code terms are a bit difficult to understand still.
    Thanks in advance!
p.s. if there are video tutorials or something that already covers this, a link to that would be great.

    Hi there!
You could easily make the buttons with the rollover animation in Edge Animate itself, rather than have the animation separate from the links in Dreamweaver. You would make an animation in a symbol and then reference the symbol in the rollover function of the link. I'm providing a sample project below for you to check out:
      https://creative.adobe.com/share/c0a2785d-1a43-482b-afa2-11620b367e8
If you need further clarification, let me know. After you create your links and animations you can import the entire navigation into your Dreamweaver project using Insert > Media > Edge Animate Composition.
    I hope this helps!

  • Hover over link

    Hi
    I'm converting xml to html.
If I hover over a link in the html page, I want an image to appear in an iframe. I know how to display the image in the iframe if I click on the link, but want to change it to when I hover.
    Code for image
    <xsl:template match = "images">
              <a href ="{image/@src}" target = "2frame"> <xsl:value-of select = "title" /> </a>
    </xsl:template>Code for iframe
    <td> <iframe name = "2frame" style = "border:0; width:100%"> </iframe> </td>How can I do this?

So, I guess that's a question about the application which is displaying the XML then. What application is it?
And what's with the XSLT code in your original post? Where does that come into the question?
And what about the statement in your original post that you were converting XML to HTML? Now that isn't true, and you're actually displaying the XML somehow?

  • Styles - hover over links

When defining up a style for a page group, is there any way to set it so that when you hover over a hyperlink the link changes colour or becomes underlined.
I can do it by using an html portlet and adding CSS classes within style tags but I would rather set it up using portlet if possible.
    Cheers,
    Steven.

The easiest way to do it, is as you described below with CSS. I suggest creating an unstructured UI template and placing the CSS in there (this code is read first when generating a page). Don't put anything in the body of this template except the oracle #BODY# tag.
Then apply this UI template to your pages and all links on those pages should display the CSS hover attribute.

  • My link preview has disappeared from the bottom left of the page (it no longer pops up when I hover over a link.) Thoughts on how to get it back? I really LIKE having it!

My link preview has disappeared from the bottom left of the page (it no longer pops up when I hover over a link.) Thoughts on how to get it back? I really LIKE having it!

It is possible that the screen is too high and that the scroll bar and the find bar and add-on bar fall off at the bottom.
If that works then close Firefox (File > Exit/Quit) to save that setting.

  • I am not seeing the URL preview you get when you hover over a link. Why?

Until today, when I hovered my cursor over a link, a preview of the link's URL would appear on the lower left of my screen, above the Start button (I use Windows Vista). Currently when I hover over a link, no preview appears, so I don't know the web address of where I'm going when I click on the link. I thought that maybe this was due to updating to Firefox 19.0, but my friends who have also updated say that they can still see the URL preview. Did I somehow turn off the URL preview by accident? If so, how can I turn it back on? If not, why is it gone?

Do you see toolbars like the Add-ons bar (Ctrl+/) or the Find bar (Ctrl+F)?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • How to hide the Alt description when you hover over your links?

I was told that you have to have a description for images, links just about everything. But when I preview my website and hover over the links, a yellow box appears with the description of the images. How do I hide this?

You are previewing with an old (very old?) version of IE, which is the only browser on earth that does what you describe.  All other browsers play by the rules and leave the alt attribute values alone (which is what they should do).
You can choose to ignore this, or 'kill' it by adding a title attribute that is empty, e.g.,
    <img alt="foo" title=""...
By the way, you add alt attributes to images for accessibility reasons.  People who browse with images turned off (and there are some) or people who use screen assistive devices (screenreaders) need some indication that there is an image at the point where they are looking/reading.  Consequently, you would only want to add content to these alt attributes where it's important to the message of the page (i.e., a cosmetic-only image would just have an empty alt attribute value). And you only need these for images, not for any other page element....

  • Safari, when I hover over a link, doesn't show the web address, +Hotmail qu

    Hi, two questions.
New to safari, when I hover over a link it doesn't display the web address, is there a way to turn this on or is it not available in Safari.
In regard to Hotmail, is there a way to synch up Hotmail with Mail in leopard so that when I click an email address it allows me to send via hotmail.
If not, how do you find out the email address, because when I click it, just takes me to mail and doesn't allow me to at least view what the email address is, so I can manually send it via Hotmail.
    Thanks for your time.

if i hover over a link, etc. i get a blank box under my cursor instead of a description

Issues with tooltips not working properly have been reported to be caused by the Google Toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)
You can check if there is an update available that fixes that issue.
You can try to uninstall and reinstall the latest GT, that has been reported to work.

  • Hovering over links doesn't always show hover state?

After installing Firefox 7, I noticed something weird. I'm a front-end web developer, so I noticed this recently when creating custom tool-tips that appear on hover. I noticed that the hover tooltip wouldn't appear for certain links, and at first I thought I was doing something wrong on my end, but then I realized that this was happening on almost all websites.
Here's what's happening: on ''some'' links, not all, the hover state only gets activated on certain parts of the link. [http://i.imgur.com/P60He.png Here is a screenshot] -- it's from the Firefox help forum. Hover over the green portion activates the hover state (underlining the top link), but the red portion does nothing. Some of the links work throughout, but some don't. The same goes with Google search results.
    I'm running OS X Lion.
I'm wondering if it's just me or a Firefox 7 bug, can someone help/confirm?

I am having this issue as well. I am also running OS/X Lion and when the issue crops up, it is not limited to Firefox, it extends across all browsers... I have tested on Opera, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome... it happens in all of them. I believe this to be a Lion specific issue, not just Firefox.

In the IE 7+ browser, the Favorites pane has a feature that when you hover over a link, a blue arrow displays which, when clicked, opens that link in a new tab. Is there a Firefox add-on that has this feature?
