Preview images in Finder (default opened by Preview) gone

Since a couple of days the preview of images default opened by Preview are gone.
Preview of files/images that are default opened by other programs are still there.
I tried one of the answers in the (unanswered) topics where it was suggested to delete the com.apple.finder.plist file, but this doesn't help.
I think this change has occurred after I installed the "Panorama maker 4" program that came with a Nikon Coolpix camera. This program can "stitch" together a number of panoramically made shots, so it is made to meddle with JPEG files. Also the installation procedure is very un-Apple-like and un-OS X-like.
Of course removing this program does not help.
Any suggestions on what might be wrong, or how to recreate the preview?

You should be able to restore Preview as being the default to open JPG files by opening Finder then choosing a folder with JPG files in it. Select one of them and right click (Option + Click) and select "Open With" then select "Other". Navigate to the Preview Application and select it (click once), then click on the "Always Open With" checkbox (lower left of the dialog box) then click on the Open button.

  • X-ing out / Finder default opening

Here's some anal and meticulous questions from a new Mac user.
When I X-out a window (the little red circle in the upper left), I want that particular windows/software application to close. But it stays open in Dashboard. Is there someway that I can change this default, so that when I X-out a window, it shuts down that application?
Also, when I open up Finder, it defaults to my main directory, though I'd like it to default to Applications. Is there a way to change this?

    1. You are looking for the Windows behaviour: close the last window quit the app? Then use apple - q of File -> Quit. You cannot make the app quit when you simply close the last window.
    2. Finder -> Preferences -> New Finder Window opens on: -> Select Other and navigate to the Applications WIndow.

  • RW2 preview in finder and "Open file" dialog

    Hello,
I run into a curiosity with RW2 file format (from LX3 and FZ38). In Finder, RW2 preview is not displayed and only default icon (black icon with text exec in corner). The same RW2 files does have correct preview, when I browse them in "Open file" dialog window (for example Safari > File > Open File...).
How it is possible the Finder and Open dialog do have different settings? Is it possible to copy these settings?
    Thank You

  • When I double click a CS3 Illustrator file in finder, it opens in preview, not in Illustrator CS4.

When I double click a CS3 Illustrator file in finder, it opens in preview, not in Illustrator CS4.
Is anyone having this same issue?
Is there a quick and easy method to convert to CS4.
I have 4000 ads, 3,000 are from freelancers that are CS3 or CS2.

Select a couple of .ai files and Get Info on the files. Go to the Open with line and set it to Adobe Illustrator. When it ask if you want it to do the same for this file type answer yes. The OS is probably seeing the file as a PDF and Preview by default is set to open PDFs.

  • Preview - extra finder window opens

Since upgrading recently to Mountain Lion, whenever I select Preview, a finder window opens bringing me to my Documents folder. I don't want to go here. I simply want access to the program. How do I remove this?

Is there anything in your login items?
You might find something in the console.app logs about what is starting up when you log in and why.

  • RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

RAW images in Lightroom aren't opening in camera raw in Photoshop.  Instead, I have to open the image in Finder before it will open in Camera Raw in Photoshop.  How can I correct that?

Your question is a little unclear. In a "normal" Lightroom/Photoshop workflow the raw images do not open from Lightroom into Camera Raw. Lightroom has all of the Camera Raw functionality in the develop module. When you choose to open an image in Photoshop, and Lightroom and Photoshop are synchronized (i.e. referencing the same version of Camera Raw) then Camera Raw is simply used to interpret the Lightroom adjustments as the image is transferred to Photoshop. If Camera Raw is an older version then Lightroom offers you the choice to open the image or create a PSD or TIF file that includes all of the Lightroom adjustments. But in either case, opening in Camera Raw is not part of the workflow. It is possible to open the image as a smart object or convert the image to the smart object in Photoshop and then open it in Camera Raw. That is done from within Photoshop or is one of the open options in Lightroom. If you choose to go the smart object route the image first has to be opened in Photoshop and then from there you can open it in Camera Raw.

  • Need to find a scripts for changing default "Open with" iTunes app to Quick

    Hello all...
I'm new to scripting but need a script really quickly...
I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a script that will change the default "Open with" of audio files placed within a certain folder on my desktop...
I'm making sound clips with WireTap and dumping them in a folder called WireTapExports as .mp3. I then need to play them without using iTunes (and importing them by default) but going into the "Get Info" and manualy changing the "Open With" settings for each file is taking ages...and it's very irratating...
Is there a way I can make all audio file put in that folder automaticaly open with Quicktime instead.
I know this is quite easy to most but I've only just started looking at Applescript (i.e. a few days ago) and but I need this to work now...
    Many thanks in advance...
    PigeonCake...

Not what you want, but if you hold the control key while getting info it changes to summary info which then lets you change the preferred application on a batch of files in one go.

  • How to make photoshop default opening images

I have Bridge CC when I double click to open a image in photoshop it opens in windows photo viewer intsted,.and photopshop is not in the File / open with /

    Hi;
Id, Ai, and Ps file types are associated correctly in Bridge CC and work fine, however, JPGs don't. When I click on the file thumbnail I get the following:
I no longer have Ps C5; all my apps are now CC.
I'd like to associate JPGs in Bridge CC to default to Windows Photo Viewer (that seems to work just fine, otherwise), but I cannot manually re-asscociate the JPG file types in Bridge CC because when selecting to choose the program in "Browse" (to set it to Windows Photo Viewer) the WPV folder is empty—go figure!! I don't get it.
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this?
    Thanks.

  • New computer opens without desktop image of Finder

I have a desktop iMac in Snow Leopard, and in the upper right corner, there's always an icon of the Hard Disk. I click on the Hard Disk icon and it opens the Finder.
However, I just purchased a MacBook Pro, and there are no icons immediately visible on startup. However, if I double-click on the Finder icon on the desktop, the Hard Disk icon will appear.
Why do the two computers act differently on startup?

In the Finder, go to Finder -> Preferences, click the General icon and make sure "Hard disks" is checked.
    Also, just some terminology clarification:
    1) Clicking the hard disk icon doesn't open the Finder, it opens a window in the Finder. The Finder is always open.
    2) There's no Finder icon on the desktop, you must be thinking of the Finder icon on the Dock.
    3) When you single-click the Finder icon on the Dock, a window will appear, which probably shows your hard drive in the sidebar. This isn't causing the hard drive icon to appear on the desktop, correct?

  • How to rotate a thumbnail image in Finder?

Is there a way to rotate a thumbnail image in Finder? When I click a photo in a Finder folder, the image automatically opens in Preview and the image is correctly displayed right side up. But the thumbnail image is displaying a vertical photo horizontally. Can I rotate the thumbnail?

    corelle,
please open the sidebar of the Preview window and check how the thumbnail is displayed there.
If the orientation is wrong in the Preview sidebar as well, then apparently some program rotated the image but not the EXIF preview image, which is obviously not a good thing.
If the orientation is correct in the Preview sidebar, but wrong in the Finder, then the file probably has a custom icon with wrong orientation. This should then be removed rather than rotated. It's useless anyhow because Snow Leopard's Finder can better use the EXIF preview image instead.

  • How do I display thumbnails for subfolders with images in Finder?

Hello. I've settled in quite nicely with OS X but I find there's one thing I couldn't replace with a better alternative from XP and I've looked extensively for a solution but with no luck, so I figured I'd ask.
It's best described with a picture (http://i38.tinypic.com/2j2i1rr.png). All those folders have images in them (at their root, not in subfolders). Instead of the generic folder icon, I'd like a thumbnail of the images in the folder (like this: http://imgsrv.worldstart.com/ct-images/folder-pic-blank1.jpg). The closest I've gotten to this is ticking "Show icon preview" in Finder's view options menu, but this only displays the thumbnails when I actually open the folder which is a bit of a problem when you have 200+ folders and you're looking for a specific one. The only thing remotely like this that I've found is FileBrowse (http://www.filebrowse.com/index.html) but it's too fat and slow to be of much use.
Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

baltwo: Thanks for the tip, I didn't know how easy it was to set up custom icons in OS X. In this case it's a difficult solution because it will have to be done by hand for every single folder, which is a problem if I'm going to have these in two places. I'm new to Automator but there doesn't seem to be a way to have it; 1) Select all the folders in a directory. 2) Copy the first image in each folder to the clipboard and have it use that image as each folder's icon.
Barney-15E: I know it sounds moronic, but yes. I've tried iPhoto but it's not a very good solution in this case. My folder structure is like this:
Root -> 282 image folders with 10 to 60 pictures in each.
All I really need is the ability to see at a glance what each image folder has without opening each individual folder. The folders are numbered sequentially (1-282 in this case) rather than by proper names, so this is the most efficient way.

  • Where did I found the images in Finder?

For a while ago, I found some images in Finder of, among others; iPad, iMac Unibody, some MacBooks, etc. Now, I can't remember where I found them. Does anyone have experienced the same, and can tell me where in Finder they are?

You may have found them in the Resources folder of the CoreTypes.bundle. Take a look here:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle
Then right click on the bundle and select "Show Package Contents" and continue burrowing down. There are lots of icns graphics files for apple hardware. They will open in Preview when double clicked and you can resave them as jpegs to use somewhere else.

  • Drag & drop images from Finder into new Photoshop layer?

Is it possible to drag & drop images from Finder into a new Photoshop layer?
I can do it from a web browser, but not the Finder.

    >I couldn't find a way to do so in Bridge, but also I never use that program. Never got into Bridge's workflow. >
I really do suggest that you re-visit Bridge especially the CS4 version.
I just cannot conceive of trying to use a Digital camera, a Scanner or the Creative Suite programs without using Bridge and ACR.
I can even use it to read PDFs and inDesign documents (all pages!) without opening Acrobat or InD..
    >I usually keep a "work" window open with all the files I am using for a project, so it would be far more handy to be able to skim them in the Finder.
It is now far more effective and efficient to do that in Bridge than in the Finder.
This is where you would find the new Collections feature to be invaluable:
Just select all the images and other files connected to a project from any folder and drag their icons into the same Collection.
You then have all aliases (previewable at full-screen slide-view size with one click of the space bar in CS4) to ALL of your files which are now visible in. and openable from, a single panel.

  • Images is corrupt, can open but channels are messed up

I have some jpg's that have been corrupted. I think it happened while transferring from one mac to another via cat 5 line. (although I am not entirely sure that is where they are corrupted, still investigating). I have spent hours looking for a solution. I have found several software programs that'll recover images from a memory card (for example PhotoRescue) but have yet to find something that will let me fix one's that I CAN open.
The images opens in preview, but seams to be "sheared" and/or have discoloration (sometimes there are red streaks, other times it looks as if I changed the levels on half the image). Furthermore, the images are inconsistent in error. I may open it once, and it's red on the right side, another time in green in the middle. I was even able to "recover" a few by opening them up in various programs...Safari opened one up ok and I was able to "save as..." and change the name. PLEASE HELP!!!

UPDATE: Last night, I was going through my images and they were all FINE!!! This leads me to the conclusion, that the images were not corrupted while transferring, rather, something is seriously up with my g4 (desktop)! I spent the whole night backing-up, 'cause who knows what will happen tomorrow! So now, instead of looking for answering about 'fixin my pics,' can anyone tell me what is up? Here is a little history:
I recently installed an extra 512mb of Memory: pc2700, as specified. I also have used the same EXACT type of Memory, including brand (ultra) before-with no problems.
I have NOT installed any 'unusual' programs. In fact the computer in question is not currently hooked up to the net. Running OS X 10.4.8.
One final thought-when the images in question were opened (when they were corrupted), I DID NOT save. However, when I put them onto a disk AND transferred them to a thumb drive, the errors came along with them (those images are staying corrupted), even though the originals are NOW fine.
Finally, I have been plagued with a screen that reads something along the lines of "You must restart you computer" (the screen in a black transparent box white text, with about 5 different languages, presumingly saying they same thing...). This has happened twice in the past two weeks (after RAM was installed, but not sure if problems are related).
So, what is going on-is it the memory? Is it the quartz filter? Is it hardware or software related???
    Grrrrr!!

  • Changing the default opener in Bridge

My Bridge has decided to change the default opener from Photoshop CS4 to either Quicktime , Paint or Dreamweaver.
So now I cannot preview a picture in Bridge and then open it in Photoshop
Can anyone tell me how to change the default back to Photoshop.

I feel like we are not having the same discussion as I am repeating myself.  Either I am misinterpreting your problem, or you are misinterpreting the suggestions.
Have you opened Windows Explorer and click one Tools? Should be a tab that says File Type.  Look what the default "opens with" setting is for jpeg files.  You want it to be CS4.  Bridge is not a separate program, but subprogram of photoshop.
Also, did you go to Bridge and click on edit/preferences/file type associations?  Is CS4 shown there a program for jpeg?
