Preview Images Slow to Load

Hi! I finally got all 70,000 images into aperture and all was well until I decided to move some images from one project to another. Now I get some preview images and lots of grey boxes. If I select an image represented by a grey box, it will load, so the images are okay. It's just ugly that the previews won't load.
Any ideas?

Guys, you are expecting too much. What you are describing is largely related to your hard drive setup. If you want to handle large batches of images faster you need to address hard drive read/write with things like fast hard drives, RAID 0 and FW 800.
I took delivery on a RAID 0 FW800 drive <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/ME8R7640GB16/> today and after I have used it a while I will report back.

  • Preview images slow to load in Finder

    I've just upgraded from 10.2.8 to 10.4.6 and I'm having a bothersome issue with the preview images in Finder loading very slowly. This is most noticable with large high res Photoshop files. Why is this happening and is there a fix?
    Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    I'm having similar issues, but with almost all previews. It's made using the finder almost impossible lately. It seems to work just snappy if I change the view to icon or list before I click on an files, but I really got used to working in the column view. I'm searching the forums now for more info.

  • Images slow to load

    Hi there,
    Images on my macbook pro take ages to load you know like on EBay when you are waiting for the pictures.
    Also Google maps never work especially when you want to zoom in more detail.
    Is this my ISP or can I change any settings on my Macbook Pro to see if that does the trick?
    Thanks
    Chris

    HI Chris and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache.
    Also, web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. *These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down.* It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
    Navigate to the eBay site. If it still takes too long to load images, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Images are not loading - but work in Preview mode

    Hi -
    I was wondering if anyone can help me.  I'm kind of new to Dreamweaver and I can't seem to figure this out on my own.
    I'm using Dreamweaver 8.  I developed a web page based on a template in which everything works perfectly in "Preview" mode on all browsers.  But when I uploaded the files to my remote hosting, the template based images (found in the "images" folder) are not loading on the page. The images that I added to the template myself, found in the same "images" folder ($200,000 in ..., and picture at bottom) are loading.  So some of the images in the images folder are loading some are not.
    I've checked the Images folder on the remote site, and they all seem to be there.  I've also checked for broken links, and I'm not getting any (I don't know if that would help w/ missing images or not, but I'm trying everything I can think of).  I also checked to see if there is a separate CSS style sheet, and there wasn't one supplied with the template (there is some CSS info in the code on the html page).  The image sizes are all small enough as well.  Can anyone help me with this?
    You can view one of the pages at: http://www.200kin5months.com/squeeze-video.html
    Thank you in advance to anyone who might be able to help!
    Stacey
    PS - I've attached a screenshot from Dreamweaver Preview to show what it is supposed to look like.

    Your Web server is running on an operating system that is case-sensitive. You appear to have uploaded an Images folder, but not an images folder.
    You do not have a file here:
    images/squeeze-video_425x344_r9_c6.jpg
    But you do have a file here:
    Images/squeeze-video_425x344_r9_c6.jpg
    So you'll need to either change all your image/<whatever> links to point to Images/<whatever>, or upload another folder named images.
    Or, if you want to use a single folder, and if your local file system is not case-sensitive, you might be able to do it in DW's file panel. Here is a method that you might use to have all of them in a folder named images.
    BACK UP YOUR SITE FILES
    Rename Images to Foo (allow DW to update links)
    Rename Foo to images (allow DW to update links)
    Upload the images folder and any/all files that DW changed
    Delete the online Images folder

  • Image preview thumbnails fail to load

    I open a folder full of tifs, they all render their thumbnails immediately, I open the folder within that and some render but the rest freeze.
    Why is this?
    On my old Windows machine the same folder all renders instantly, that machine is 4 cores and 8gb ram slower!
    It's making life incredibly tedious, as when i click a thumbnail it takes a while then shows a preview after I press space, then it keeps this thumbnail. Tedious if you go through hundreds.

    Hi E,
    I am not sure if QuickLook makes an index or store this with Finder's one. But generally the first attempt takes a longer time than next visits to this folders. I also have a folder with some 1000 images with 5 to 20MB each and icons previews are slower sometimes.
    As an acceleration option Select All files and press Space bar, you will get an icon that enables you to preview multiple files with a scroll bar, this will make first previews faster.
    Good luck.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail is extremely slow to load preview pane or show email when mailbox is double-clicked. Is this a known issue?

    Since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail is extremely slow to load the preview pane or show email when mailbox is double-clicked. Is this a known issue? Or is there a solution to this issue?

    Hi AngieLynch,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like you're seeing some unexpected behavior in Mail.
    Before troubleshooting on your computer, I'd strongly recommend backing up your data to an external hard drive with Time Machine, if you haven't already. This article can help with setting up Time Machine:
    Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
    Next, try creating a new user account on your computer. You can add your email account to Mail in the new user account. If Mail is more responsive in the new user account, then Mavericks is working fine and the behavior is caused by conflicts in your own Mail or user account.
    These articles walk you through creating a new user and setting up Mail:

  • Facebook slow to load images

    I am currently running iOS 8.1.3 on VZW iphone 6. When in Facebook app the images are slow to load if they even do. I have rest network settings, forgot the network and reconnected. I have uninstalled the facebook app as well. all other internet usage is fine on the phone. Wifi router is Netgear WNR1000v2 set to WPA2-PSK(AES), auto channel.
    Any ideas?

    Hi nevr4get911,
    Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
    It seems like the Facebook app is not loading images reliably, and you've tried many good steps to troubleshoot the app and your network connection.
    Since you have isolated this behavior to the Facebook app, you may want to contact the developer for more help:
    If you see this issue again, contact the app developer for help:
    Find the app in the App Store.
    Tap the app, then tap Reviews.
    Tap App Support under App Store Ratings.

  • Mail Slow to Load Images

    I've gotten MOST issues addressed/fixed since Mavericks came out, but one I've noticed that is a bit annoying. Images in emails are slow to load. Not just with Gmail account, other accounts as well. Any others getting this? I'm on a MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013.

    I'll try to submit this as a bug report when I get a chance.  The desired behavior would be to show as much of the message as possible without blocking the application...the way a web browser normally does when rendering a web page as elements come in.
    One other quirk: in the case of the email tracking example I gave, it does not help to disable "display remote images in HTML messages" under Mail...Preferences...Viewing.
    Actually, when disabling this feature, it seems like Mail downloads the images, but simply does not display them.  It takes a while to display some emails without displaying the remote images when the feature is disabled, then I hit "load images" and the images instantaneously appear.  They must have already been downloaded.  If true, then this is undesirable behavior indeed, e.g., when trying to minimize bandwidth during travel or when trying not to be tracked by email senders!

  • Lightroom 4 NEF files/D5100 - fully loaded preview image dark

    Hi Team,
    I shoot in raw (NEF) with a Nikon D5100 and I notice that when the preview fully loads, it loads much darker than what is showing for the preview while it is loading.  Does anyone know why this might be?  The image I'm seeing while the image is loading in Lightroom is the image I want to work with, not the darkened image that is showing after the image preview fully loads.
    -photorobot2010

    The image that you see while LR is loading your picture is the JPEG that is embedded in the raw file by the camera. LR replaces it with its own preview which it renders from the raw data. Probably you have Active D-Lighting set in your camera's menu. That causes the image to be underexposed, and then boosted when the JPEG is created. LR ignores ADL, so you'd be better off setting it to "off".

  • PREVIEW and QUICKTIME slow to load in SNOW LEOPARD

    I've just started having a problem (after years of working perfectly) where files are taking FOREVER (up to 30 seconds anyway) to load in both PREVIEW and QUICKTIME.
    This occurs both when opening files fully with double-clicking - and when wanting to Preview by just pressing the space bar. I utilise the latter frequently to audition samples (as I work with music/Logic). This used to be an instantaneous process but can now take up to 30 seconds with the "Loading Preview" message before finally loading.
    It seems to be happening with all files, irrespective of size or type (ie mp3/WAV/AIFF/MOV etc)
    Very ocasionally - and apparently randomly - a file will load quickly.
    I've tried reparing Permissions, running Disk Warrior, reinstalling Preview, uninstalling Perian, opening another User account (in case there was a software conflict of some kind), and cloning my System onto a brand new HD with lots of free space. But none of these have made any difference.
    Anyone have any other ideas as to what this might be?
    Cheers in advance:)

    hey andy
    yeah there definitely appears to be some kind of issue (with core audio?) when i check out Console as this happens.
    i've looked at the subsequent diagnostic report but not sure how to interprete it.
    wold it be useful to post it here?
    cheers

  • How can I load preview images into an extra file?

    Hi,
    I've got a question concerning those preview images. I wrote a plugin which uses the actual paths of the photos in the catalog an stores those paths of each photo into a log file. Then an external program has access to that file for further handling. So now I would like to use preview photos instead of the raw images. First, because the user might want to use the picture he/she edited with Lightroom; And then because of the size.Processing a preview image of level 5 would be more efficient than the original photo.
    So how can I get those preview photos? And more important: is it possible to store them in an extra file in a jpg format for instance, so that an external program can make use of them?

    Look at source code in PreviewExporter plugin.

  • It is too slow to load an image on JPanel

    i overwrite the JPanel's method paintComponent(Graphics g) to load a gif image(1024*786) from local harddisk,but it will cost at least 5 secs to display the image.is there any other way to do this ?
    my code:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class ImgPane extends JPanel {
    private String strImageName ="";
    public ImgPane(String imagename) {
    strImageName = imagename;
    public ImgPane() {
    strImageName ="xyz.gif";
    public void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
    super.paintComponent(g);
    Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(imagepanel.ImgPane.class.getResource(strImageName));
    g.drawImage(smallImage,0,0,this.getWidth(),this.getHeight(),this);

    Hi,
    I use a class like this to display an image centered in a JLabel
    public class PictureLabel extends JLabel {
    boolean hasImage = false;
    int  pic_w  = 0;
    int  pic_h   = 0;
    Image img;
    public PictureLabel(String filename) {
    super(filename,JLabel.CENTER);
    img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(filename);
    MediaTracker mt = new MediaTracker(this);
    mt.addImage(img,0);
    hasImage = true;
    try { mt.waitForID(0); }
    catch (InterruptedException ie)     { hasImage = false;     }
    if (hasImage)
    pic_h = img.getHeight(this);
    pic_w = img.getWidth(this);
    }   // end of constructor
    public Dimension getPreferredSize() {
    if (hasImage) return new Dimension(pic_w,pic_h);
    else return super.getPreferredSize();
    }  // end of getPreferredSize
    public void paint(Graphics g) {
    if (hasImage)
    Dimension d = getSize();
    int xo = (d.width-pic_w)/2;
    int yo = (d.height-pic_h)/2;
    g.drawImage(img,xo,yo,this);
    } else super.paint(g);
    } // end of paint
    } // end of classTry it, it works fine for me - if the actual dimensions of the PictureLabel will get smaller than the image, you will see the center of this image in the PictureLabel, because the origin of the picture is repositioned this way in the paint-method - also, if the dimensions of the PictureLabel is greater than the image, the image will be in the center of the PictureLabel - so that you will see the background color of the underlying JLabel at the edges in this case. In the case the image cannot be loaded, you will see the filename centered in this label.
    greetings Marsian

  • In PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but PSD, DNG and CR2 files don't. Also, no thumbnail below the file list.

    Working in PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but psd files just have white sheet of paper as preview.  I have to open the file to be able to see it.  Also, there is no thumbnail of the file below the file list.Surely, there's a setting that needs to be changed. I did not have this problem with Elements 12. This is a real bother because I have to use Lightroom to see all the file types. It seems as if Elements is using the standard Windows file loader that can't show previews of file types it doesn't know including .PSD, DNG and CR2. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong? Thanks for any help.

    I am using Windows 7 64 bits. Working in the editor, I never use the organizer. The screen above is not the same at all that I got in Elements 12, it was completely different and showed me a thumbnail below the listing when I single clicked on one of the files. In Elements 12, I also could see  a thumbnail of all the file types, not only the jpegs. It is as if the loader is the regular Windows used anywhere, not the right one for Elements. I hope someone understands my problem.. Thanks.

    why is safari so extremely slow in loading pages? it can just about load my e-mail, if I wait about 5 minutes & I cannot check my t mobile cell phone balance because it gets stuck loading the page.
    Also I cannot get it to save bookmarks into my designated named bookmark folders anymore, it only will save to the bookmarks bar

  • LR 4 Library: Images not fully loading (unsharp)

    I'm editing some images ready to send to a client and I find that some them do not become fully sharp, when viewed in the library module, in loup view.  Of the 14 images showing in one folder (selected with "pick") only the first 2 are sharp when viewed, the other 12 are not becoming sharp and clear.
    They are actually quite sharped and sharpened - it's not an issue with the image itself.
    Any thoughts are welcome.

    Hi Rikk
    Yes they go back as sharp once viewed at 100% But it's also very slow to "load" the images at 100% LR seems to hae slowed down on me lately and was running quite fast previously. It also "hangs" on opening, sometimes longer than other times.
    Thanks for the reply.
