Preview issues with OSX 10.7.5

Hi all,
Just upgraded to OS X 10.7.5 and my Illustrator, Photoshop, etc files open with Preview. I did cmmd i for info and changed the appropriate files to the software I wanted to open them in, selected change all files, and agreed to wanting them changed. Works until I shut down and restart my machine. Everyday I have to select a file, cmmd i, change the software and change all. Total pain. Any ideas of how to stop this insanity?
Thanks everyone!

  • Permissions issue with OSX 10.5.8

This is likely a newbie question. I am new to OS X, but I am familiar with Linux/Unix Terminal usage.
I have a permissions issue with OSX 10.5.8.
I cannot use basic commands on the Terminal, such as mkdir, on my own home directory. I get an error message saying the operation is not permitted.
I have traced the probable culprit down to default ACL permissions settings.
So after hours of research on Google, I found out that ACL are turned on by default in OSX 10.5.8.
But I don't know how to safely use it yet, so I need help.
I'm not quite familiar with ACL, so I need to know how to add myself safely and securely to modify my home directory.
The command is with chmod. Can this also be done via the GUI?
What is the option for chmod to modify my home directory?
    Is it:
    *$ cd ~*
    *$ chmod +a "user:john allow write" .*
    *$ chmod +a "user:john allow delete" .*
Alternatively, if I use the "chmod -N ." command on the home directory, will that safely remove all ACL? Or is that recipe for a major security hole in my machine?
    Thanks!

There are many people on this board that know way more than I do. Sometimes there is the tendency to copy/paste some kind of boilerplate response though, especially if there isn't quite enough information about a particular problem, so just keep trying.
You should be able to add anything you want to your user directory without the use of any ACL entries. The purpose for the *deny delete* entries on the system created folders would probably be to reduce customer service calls about "accidentally" deleting some of the folders that the system expects to be there - it does not affect creating items.
To verify that there aren't other attributes getting in the way, open the /Applications/Utilities/Terminal application, copy/paste the following command(s) into the window (there is a trailing space), drag the problem folder(s) from a Finder window to the Terminal window (this will paste the path), press return and post back with the results:
    /usr/bin/who am i; /bin/ls -leO@d
These commands will display the ownership and permissions, including any ACL entries and extended attributes.
On my Leopard user folder the permissions are drwxr-xr-x+ with an ACL entry *group:everyone deny delete*. These permissions allow read/write for me, read for everyone else, and an administrator authentication will be needed to delete the folder. These are similar to what you posted earlier, so maybe there is something else going on in there.

  • Ram Preview Issue with Yosemite

Hi, I have updated to OS X Yosemite, I am using AE 13.1.1.3, and now I am having an issue with RAM-Preview that makes working with AE problematic: When I start the Preview by hitting "0" on the Numpad the Ram Preview starts, but I am not able to stop it anymore until it has rendered to the end of the work area.
It is also strange that I am able to move keyframes while it renders.
The Shift-Ram Preview is also affected by this bug.

There is a known bug with Yosemite and the RAM preview, but your issue sounds different. Anyway, see the known issues here: After Effects good to go with Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite)

  • VPP Distribution issues with OSX Server Profile Manager

Hi, I have a new issue with my OSX 10.9.5 Server. I use VPP to distribute apps to users devices, when I would add a new user I would send them an invitation message through /profilemanager . All was working well until recenetly , the message still arrives in the users mailbox however when you click the "sign in" link on the "receive apps and books from xxxxx" email instead of opening through the Mac App store app it now opens Safari and connects to the profile manager server , any ideas ? it never has done this before and although I thought it was a new feature or method I can not seem to resolve the issue.

Hi if when you are redirected back to your Mac Server you enter the user name and password of the user you are trying to receive VPP apps for i.e the Open Directory credentials it will then open the App Store providing the credentials are correctly entered so it looks like an additional layer of security. The process is click on the link in the VPP invite email, this takes you to your Mac Server profile manager, log on with your OD account, App store then opens on your Mac like it used to.

  • Mighty mouse usb and wireless issues with OSX 10.6.1

Since upgrading to OSX 10.6.1 I have experienced intermittent mighty mouse issues with both the USB and wireless mouse. Essentially the mouse works as a pointer. However, I cannot select anything or use the mouse buttons. I need to re-start the machine in order to get it to work properly again. Anyone else had this issue or have suggestions for fixing it?

Pushing the power button briefly on my iMac turns off the display and stops the hard drive running (both my internal and external drive). Pushing it briefly again brings everything back up in about 2 seconds - it's not a full startup. That's why I call it "sleep" - cause that's what it seems to be doing.

  • Triple Display Issue with OSX Lion

    I have the following setup:
    iMac OSX (Snow Leopard)
    3.06 GHz Intel Core i3
    4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    500GB Hard Drive
I have 3 monitors hooked up, one is a 24 inch benQ through mini display with vga and then i have the 21.5 imac and then a 23 inch acer hooked up with an external usb video card usb to dvi. I had this setup before lion was released when i was using snow leopard and it worked perfectly fine, but now with the lion update it does not work the screen just continuiously flickers on and off; i tried swapping monitors and it still doesnt work so it has to do with a possible software issue.
I have updated to the latest drivers, installed restarted and everything i can think of; does anyone have any suggestions?
This is a video I made of my issue:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h23Rtkfiuq8&feature=channel_video_title
If anyone can help i would GREATLY appreciate it!

I'm pretty sure its not a monitor issue, as the issues vary between monitors
I'm pretty sure this is a display and adapter and interface problem, especially when the name(s) of your display(s)  show up wrong after sleep.
The Mac uses one display driver that is highly parameterized. The parameters to be used are set by sending a query to the display for its name and capabilities. This query is sent on the secondary digital data channel, and is sometimes referred to as EDID data.
Currently both 20's are recognised as 'vga display' or 'color LCD', no resolution options are available, just what it defaults to (640 x 480)
When the name of the display is not correctly reflected in the name of its Display Preferences pane, that is a direct indication the display-adapter-cable-display part of the chain "dropped the ball" in resounding to the Mac's query for capabilities.
Adapters that do not pass the EDID data through, and displays that do not answer when queried for their name and capabilities are the primary source of problems. For example, TV sets that are not "paying attention" to the secondary data channel, and therefore do not answer the query, drive Mac users crazy.
The query is sent in response to four different events:
    • System Startup
    • wake form sleep
    • cable insertion at the Mac-end (not necessarily at the Display-end)
    • The use of the Option-Detect_Displays button in Displays Preferences window

  • Crazy preview issue with PS CS5

Hey!  I have a rather odd issue that I'm dealing with on 2 separate digital painting projects
on my desktop I have my psd file, and I often throughout the day will hit space bar to do a quick preview of the image.
today I had been using cmd+c and cmd+v on a selection I wanted on a new layer, but it wouldn't do it.  so I saved the image, and restarted PS, and that seemed to do the trick. -- I was able to copy/paste just fine.
So the issue is, when i hit space bar on my desktop to view the image, I am now only seeing that piece that I was trying to copy/paste!!
the rest of the image on the thumbnail is there, and all of the layers are visible inside the document.
Kinda crazy!  thanks for any imput!

  • Dreamweaver preview issue with Safari 4.0

    Description of Issue :
Recently I have upgraded my Safari browser to version to 4.0, after this was completed when I'm in dreamweaver design view I cannot preview my work in Safari as it comes up with a blank web page and opens the folder that the template is stored in, can you provide any solution to why this is hapening as it never happened before I upgraded, also I can view the webpage
in Firefox so I know its nothing to do with my Mac?

Does anyone know where you can go besides here to post to ask about this problem. I called Adobe tech support and they said they don't support Safari, so they would not help. They were nice though.
Although this thread has a high viewership compared to others, I wish more people would post, if they are having a problem so we can get some traction, and maybe Adobe will find this and we can get an answer or a work around.
I'm running Safari 4.0.2. I have run DiskWarrior and done a complete systems check and update, including correcting permissions trying to figure this out. Hopefully someone has an answer. I have also thrown away my Preference file.
I recently had to delete my Acrobat plug-in for Safari because I could not load PDF's in the browser. This was on the advice of an Adobe tech support guy. (he said you didn't need the plug-in anymore with Safari 4). Maybe this has something to do with it?

  • Microsoft Powerpoint Issues with OSX Mavericks

I ran a clean install of OSX Mavericks upon its initial release. Since then and the fresh installation of Microsoft Office 2011, I have encountered an occuring issue where upon opening the application, a message appears stating "There is a problem with the Office database". The message suggests rebuilding the damaged database, however I have done that multiple times with no success. I have also tried other methods suggested on the Office Support site to no avail. I have even gone to the trouble of removing and re-installing Office multiple times and the issue still persists. In the past week the issue has developed into Powerpoint crashing whenever a task is undertaken, such as copy & paste. I am running Version 14.3.9. Thanks for any help in advance.

Some months later, but the solution to this problem is posted here:

  • Firefox 3.6 Font Issues with OSX Font Server

Just wondering if anyone's found a fix. There's an ongoing Firefox issue that keeps getting fixed (I have asked there with no luck) with updates but I'm wondering if perhaps there's a plist issue that someone might know about. What happens is that some fonts are either bolded or italicized by the system. The fix is to restart OSX's font server through the Terminal and it works — at least until you restart. I've validated fonts with Font Book but so far, everything's fine on that end.

While I have not contacted Adobe, I am sure the answer will be don't use Firefox 3.6.8. ( The compliment to the answer you gave. It not Firefox that has the problem but Adobe.)
Since the only solution that I have seen is to disable the key reason to use Firefox 3.6.8 (crash protection) then the problem would appear to be in how Firefox as done the crash protection.

  • Website issue with osx server and hosting

so i had a website hosted from my osx server and i had bought the domain name from godaddy it worked great but i desided to instead of hosting it on my osx server to just host it on  godaddy so i turned to server off and added the domain to my godaddy account hosting and now it works but one problem all computers can veiw the website but mine. i think it has somthing to do with the fact that my mac was the one hosting it. but if i go to my browser and go to my wesite i get a error but than i go to any other computer and it works great help please

    A couple ideas
check our /etc/hosts file, you might have an entry for your domain.
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
do you see any entries for your domain? If so:
edit the file by navigating with the arrow keys, delete the line
with your domain. Hit ctrl-x when done (enter 'y' to save the change)
    Clear your DNS cache
         dscacheutil -flushcache
Try a different DNS server, go into your network settings (In System Preferences)
Go to Ethernet or Wifi (whichever you are using), click Advanced and under the DNS tab enter:
         8.8.8.8
Make sure no entries are ABOVE it.
If none of this works, send the results of these commands:
         cat /etc/hosts
         cat /etc/resolv.conf
dig +short mydomain.com   (replace with your domain)
The results of these should point us in the right direction.

  • Preview Issue with PDF

I tried to view the document http://www.laser.org.uk/docs/uploaded/Clubssigned_up_for_2010AyL.pdf and the default viewer (Preview) shows just shows blocks where their should be text. However Adobe Reader (which I hate) shows the document fine. I cannot find any settings relevant that I have nt tried in Preview and cannot find anywhere to report it to Apple as a bug.
    Anybody any ideas ?
    Ian

I definitely have Calibri - came with Office for Mac and is the font I have set my "normal" style to use (plus my default e-mail font, etc.). I have checked in FontBook and Calibri is there, no duplicate fonts and I validated the font and it is all fine (regular, italic, bold, bold italic). My Calibri works fine in PDF's because I create a fair number of documents in Word (for Mac) and "print" them to PDF and Calibri is the main font I use.
What is weird is that the document has the font embedded anyway (at least the subset it needs), yet when Adobe Reader displays the document the fonts look nothing like Calibri.
I can open the file fine in Photoshop - but as with Reader, the font it uses is not Calibri.
Also, Preview done snot see the "blocks" where the text should be as text - as I cannot select them with the text cursor but only with the select (image/rectangle) tool. I can't see a way to attach an image to a port here but the blocks I get a like lines of giant black pixels (rectangles the size of a character) where the text should be, some fully black, then fading to lighter greys across the word (some starting black, fading to light grey, others starting light grey building to black, a few all solid black). Sorry for the lousy description.
I have double checked a PDF I created (using Word/Office for Mac) and it had two embedded subset fonts, Calibri and Calibri bold and it displays fine in both Preview and Reader and the font is very different from that Reader/Photoshop show for the problem document. Although in my document the "encoding" was set to "built-in" whilst the problem document has encoding set to "ansi"
Many thanks for your attention to my question.

  • Render and preview issues with Premiere CC 2014 update

Rendering issues: Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.0.1 Update does not fix" Occasional instance where sequences could never finished rendering"
It's been 3 days 3 technicians and still same issue. Everything has been tried except starting over which is not an option. Worked
    fine in CS6.
    1. Optimization of windows and tweek premiere memory settings,
    2. GPU updates,
    3. Software only render,
4.render section at a time works (but who has time for that),
    5. Tweek virtual memory, - clean cache, clean temp files,
    6. hardware considerations, drives, etc...
    7. Other
Ceremony completed render except for export in older computer. Please fix issue or give money back until you do!
    The rendering of footage of:
    1. render worked (on complex Ceremony 19 min sequence with AVCHD format and HDV) in an old computer. - Core 2 DUO Quad 8 gb ram 2g
    b GPU
    2. Same sequence of Ceremony (19 min sequence with AVCHD format and HDV) did not work in the faster computer. - i7 QUAD core 16 ram
    1 or 2 GB GPU
    3. Reception sequence of HDV footage only did not on both computer.
Please call the exterminator and get rid of all the bugs. I am spending more time
troubleshooting than editing….and that is bad

You really aren't reading what we write.
    Let's break it down:
Suitcase isn't working with the new application versions, because Suitcase has bugs in it's code or just doesn't know about the new application versions.
The only way to fix that is to fix the code for Suitcase.
Suitcase is written by Extensis, so only Extensis can fix the code for Suitcase.
So you are waiting on Extensis to fix their code to work correctly with the new applications.
This is not about the CC 2014 applications, this is about Extensis code not working, and Extensis needing to provide an update to make their code work.
To get a working version of Suitcase (which requires fixing bugs in Suitcase), you need to talk to Extensis.

  • PrintSetup/Preview issue with WebBrowser control in 64bit applications

The WebBrowser Control appeared to be working well in a 64-bit VB.Net application I've been developing, until I looked more closely at what was happening when using the ShowPrintSetupDialog and ShowPrintPreviewDialog members. If I opened the print setup
dialog and changed the page size from A4 to 8.5 x 11, clicked ok, and then either reopened the page setup dialog or accessed it through the print preview dialog, the page size had returned to A4 and had not retained the 8.5 x 11 setting. However, if I rebuild
the application as 32-bit the changed setting is correctly retained. The code is being developed using Visual Studio 2012 Express running as administrator under 64-bit Windows 8.1 with 64bit Internet Explorer 11 installed as standard. Does anyone
know how to overcome this problem so users can confidently change the page size in a wholly 64-bit application and print via the WebBrowser control? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I suppose you are using these methods WebBrowser.ShowPrintPreviewDialog Method and
    WebBrowser.ShowPageSetupDialog Method.
Both methods show the below. Although why it would work 32 and not 64 is unknown to me.
    .NET Framework Security
    SecurityPermission
    for immediate callers to use this control. Demand value: LinkDemand;
    Named Permission Sets:
    FullTrust.
    PrintingPermission
to access the printer through this method. Demand value: Demand. Associated enumeration:
    DefaultPrinting.

  • Odd preview issue with pdf

I have a pdf I created from Quark 7. There are a number of items with .5pt rules or boxes around them (for example, business card sized ads with a half point rule). Some rules show fine and others require me to zoom in very close to see them. If I zoom in at different levels (say 100%, 150%, etc.) I may see the rule on one side only, then at a different zoom level the rule I see disappears and I see one or two of the other sides. Is this a bug of Acrobat? I'm using 9, but have seen this in earlier versions as well. Since I just sent a long document off to a printer that has this occurring, I want to make sure the rule will show and not have to fix the page later on.
Anyone know why this is happening. (I'm viewing PDF on iMacG5, but same thing happens on intel Macbook and my client's older G4.
