Preview MS Word Document?

Hi,
I have a small website with a two column layout.  In the left column I display a list of links to MS Word documents.  When the user rolls over a link to a document, I want to show a preview of the Microsoft Word document in the 2nd column.  How can I do this?  Essentially a document preview feature for my users.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

  • Frozen out menu ribbon in Word 2013 and cannot preview word documents in Outlook 2013

I seem to be having a recurring problem with Word 2013 from Office Home Edition single user. When I try to put a caption on a table, the entire document page layout changes from portrait to something close to landscape and then the entire menu ribbon freezes
out. I usually have to save the file, close and reopen using the open and repair feature as the document only opens in read only after this incidence happens. Since the first time I experienced this in early July, I haven't been able to preview Word files
in office outlook 2013 and the protected mode feature hasn't worked since then either.
Can I get some help with this please? I reinstalled, did online fixing and tried a few other fixes to no avail. Could it have started as a result of my installing a trial version of Office Visio which comes as a totally different package from my Home edition?
    Thank you

Is this the only action that will result in the issue? Does this happen to any Word documents?
The first thing that I'd suggest you to do is to install any available updates to your system and Office installation, and then verify result.
Then, please check if you have any add-ins integrated with your Word 2013 (please note that some programs might install add-ins automatically), try in safe mode and see if issue was caused by some add-in conflicts:

  • When trying to look at pix on a cd, it comes up as word document and have to right click on preview to see picture. Why

On my desktop, when wanting to see pictures on a CD, if I click on the picture icon it open as a word document. I must right click on the icon then click on preview and can then see all pictures on the CD. This just started after the last Firebos update. What needs to be done to correct. I have no problem seeing the pictures on my laptop which doen not have Firefox.

Firefox is a web browser, and your problem is associated with how Windows handles image files. Firefox doesn't even need to be running, so I don't see how it could be associated with your problem. If the problem started around the same time as a Firefox update, I'm willing to bet that it was just a coincidence.
Try asking in a Windows forum. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/community

  • How do i change a pdf in preview to a word document in pages?

Does anyone know how i return to work on a word document within pages as i'm currently viewing it as a pdf in preview.

Preview does not have that capability. Go to MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and search for software that can do such a conversion.

  • Word document icon preview thumbnail is wrong

I can't seem to refresh the icon preview for the word document i'm working on. It has happened to a few documents and even after repairing permissions, shuting down, turning preview on and off, trying to delete icon in 'get info'….. it remains the same.
Not a major problem but I'd like to see the file I'm opening instead of reading the name, it's quicker.

Thanks Chris, I already ran cleaning in Onyx, I've tried deleting again and rebooting, then opening the doc again…but they are still the same… even worse all of the icon previews are corrupted!

    Hi,
The quickest way to do this (tested with OS 10.8.2, MS Word 2011) is in one line:
tell application "Microsoft Word" to close every document whose name begins with "book"
The reason why your script doesn't work is that you aren't specifying to Word which document you want it to close.
So, changing one line ought to do it:
close document incrementvalue -- instead of "close document"
But... when you close a document, you change the document count. Document 2 becomes document 1, document 3 becomes document 2 etc. So eventually you'd get a message saying "The object you are trying to access doesn't exist".
Because of this, if you want to do it in a repeat loop, you have to work backwards:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
      set doc_count to count documents
      repeat with x from doc_count to 1 by -1
if name of document x begins with "book" then close document x
      end repeat
    end tell
    Hope this helps.

    Hi MIXAYA,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  In OS X, by default apps will open with any previously opened documents opening as well.  To disable this feature, select "Close windows when quitting an application" from System Preferences > General.  To learn more, see this article:
    OS X Mavericks: General preferences

Close windows when quitting an application
If you quit apps with windows still open on your screen, selecting this checkbox prevents the windows from reopening automatically the next time you start their app.

  • Why aren't images I captured using acrobat on a mac visible in a word document on a PC?

    Hi guys
this question has been asked before, but I can't find any answers that address the exact problem I'm having.
I use a mac to create word documents that are read by other collaborators who use PCs.  Until recently, I had created these documents on my Macbook Air, running OS X (snow leopard).  These documents involve copying lots of images, for which I was using Adobe Reader 9, into word documents (I have word 2008).  Using that setup, there was no problem.
Over the weekend I got a new iMac, which is running Mac OS v 10.7.2 (lion).  I installed a full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro X.  Still have word 2008 (I save my documents as ".doc" because some of my collaborators don't run new versions of word and don't have the capability to open ".docx" files).
I just got an email from one of my collaborators that she can't view any of the copied images in the document I just sent her (the first using the new setup).  Each image is just an empty box with the words "quicktime and a decompressor are required to view this picture."  I tried searching to see whether others have had this problem, and it appears they have - I see that this is mostly a problem (at least it was in the past) because macs convert  files into TIFFs when they copy to the clipboard, which the PCs can't read.
Only problem is, all the threads I read about this problem recommended upgrading to word 2008 as a fix to the problem...but I have word 2008!  So why is this happening?  Or did it mean that the collaborator (not me) should upgrade to word 2008?
I don't know what version of word my collaborators have, but it may be impractical for me to tell them to upgrade their versions.  Is there anything I can do on my end to prevent this from happening?
I will say that I had this problem when I initially started this job, but was able to fix it.  At the time I was using preview to open pdfs and grab the images I needed.  I switched and started using Reader 9 as my default, and found that as long as I used the camera tool to select my images, the problem disappeared.  But in these new versions of acrobat (and reader, which I just downloaded), the camera button is gone, so it looks like there's only one way to select the image...unless someone knows a different one.
thanks for any tips you guys can give me!
    Chris

It's possible to add the camera (aka Take a Snapshot) tool to the toolbar in both Acrobat and Reader. Just right-click in the toolbar area, go to the Edit category, and select it.

  • Word documents located in a sparse bundle will not open after update to Lion

I have several files of Word documents created by Office for Mac 2008. These files are located in two different sparse bundles for security. One sparse bundle is the original. The second sparse bundle is a larger maximum size that I copied the original Word documents into.  My plan was to delete the original after I confirmed that the second larger one worked.   After updating to Lion, I also uninstalled Office for Mac 2008, and installed Office for Mac 2011.  Now when I try to open these Word documents, I get a message saying that Word cannot not open these documents because they may be in use or may have unacceptable symbols in the file name.  If I control click on the documents, I can see the document in Preview but still cannot open in Word.  In addition, I am able to open Word documents that are on my desktop. I tried moving my folders out of the sparse bundles by copying them to the desktop but this did not work either.
Help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

ok i created a hello world app to try a nail down this issue.
i created the app with version 1.0.0
uploaded it to my server on the net.
hit the web address from my phone, downloaded and installed
then changed the version number to 1.0.1
    uploaded this apk
    downloaded and installed to phone
app would then open for sec then close
only fixable by clearing application cache.
I can't believe the answer to this problem is not available by googling it.
has no one else encountered this?
please help, i am scared to release any updates to my programs - massive influx of email from mad users who can not open there apps.

  • Why does apple not allow iphone to open .rtf word documents

Before you get lost in my post, please remember this.  I simply want to know how to view .rtf word document files from my mac products.  It's vital.  So there you go, please don't get upset at me because of my love/hate relationship with mac products.....
I like my apple products in general, but sometimes it seems as if the apple programmers are so stubborn and are not sympathetic to the actual end user.  There seems to be an unnecessary PC vs Mac mindset.  There needs to be a customer mindset.
People like me have problems seeing certain .rtf word documents that are created at work with a PC, emailed out to the emplyees, and then only those that use non-apple smartphones and computers are able to actually see the original / very important word document.  I (a mac user) am one of those people who gets ostracized because I use an iPhone and Macbook Pro.  Case in point:
My work prints out the next days schedule in a .rtf word document format.  It's usually an attachment.
When I try to view it with the iPhone (the worlds most popular "smart" phone), it can't see this common and very popular file type used by businesses and government employees.  It says "An error occured while reading the document".  Wonderful...I guess I have to call my buddy with a blackberry.
When I try to view the common file with my $1,200 MacBook Pro, it doesn't know how to open up this .rtf file by default.  I have to select "Open it with: Preview, or Text Edit".  Then, a useless downloads box remains up after the computer has finished downloading...and then it sends the file to an inconvinient destination...somewhere that I have to then go on a hunt for by using the "today" option in finder.  I use the word "useless" because these download windows are always empty and instead of being useful (by actually containing the file that I just clicked to open), it then requires you to go for a time wasting/frustrating hunt.  How hard would that be?  Actually making the experience user friendly?  You tell the computer to download a file, it downloads it, and then shows the file to you in that window? Preposterous!  (sorry, I'm not trying to sound pompous...I'm just frustrated)
Anyway, sometimes the computer will attempt to translate it (a schedule with peoples names, times, and it's contained within boxes that resemble an excel spreadsheet), but everything winds up all messed up and jumbled.  Instead of reading the .rtf word file...macs resort to a lackluster attempt to translate it for you.
Maybe I am not seeing things correctly.  I don't know.  I'm just a common man.  I do know this though.  The programmers need to listen to the people and not be different just for the sake of being different.
How do I get my iphone and macbook to open up a .rtf file as soon as I select it??? I want it to behave like a PC does with respect to being user friendly and logical.  (I don't want to have to save it on a thumbdrive, go to a second computer while jumping on one leg, upload the file, brew a cup of coffee while I wait, translate it, and then send it back to my iphone so that I can view it....I'm only partly joking here)
Thanks for the help in advance.

My iPhone won't view them at all...yet.  I'm hoping that I can figure it out.
Well when I use pages to open the file on my macbook, it opens up an incorrect interpretation.  Things are mis-aligned.  Think of columns and rows.  If the original document had A1 defined as John Doe and A2 defined as a time of 10:30, then Pages in my Macbook may translate it as A1 - John Doe, A2 - blank, B1 - blank, B2 - 10:30.  The lines that are used to outline boxes wind up different lengths and thicknesses as well.
    For example:
PC word doc (original)                                                  Mac (translation)
    John Doe  |  10:30                                              John Doe     |
                                                                                                        _______ 10:30
Above is a simple interpretation, but I hope that it sort of gives you a visual representation of what I'm seeing (if I see anything at all).  Things appear in the wrong places and a one page document turns into 3-4 pages of incorrect "fluff" if you know what I mean.

  • My Canon MP620 just stopped printing text: it can print photos etc but when I send a word document (with a picture) it only prints the picture. Any ideas?

    Hi Everyone:
I have a  Canon MP620 printer connected directly into my Airport base station. So far it has worked perfectly - I can print any type of document over the network from my MacBook Pro.
Yesterday something weird happened. I have a resumé (as a word document) I was always printing but this time all that was printed was a photo and no text. I did a print preview and it looked fine. I converted to PDF and nothing was printed. I then created a brand new word document and again nothing was printed. I have no problem with images but for some strange reason no text  can be printed. All that happens is that the paper goes through and comes out blank.
    Any ideas?????
    Thanks a lot in advace!

    Hi,
Tried all the cleaning programmes and it still will not print...I am lost.

  • New printer won't print photographs or Word documents in color

Hi, I bought an HP Officejet Pro 8625 a few weeks ago. All the ink levels are full, but when I'm trying to print a Word document or photograph from Picasa, the printer only prints in black and white. Even the "print preview" is in black and white.
If I print a page from the Internet, the printer will print in color. But only from the Internet! I cannot get it to print in color from any other application. I've checked all my settings and have no idea how to fix this.
    Thanks for any advice.

Hi, typically the print preview tells what you will print.
One suspicion might be somehow the grey scale printing in the driver setting has been checked, go to the printing preferenc,  the paper quality and then advance settings and then under printer to make sure the print in gray scale option is set to Off.
One better option that I would usually use is to Reinstall the latest Driver from Hp.com

  • Using iPhoto shots in MS Word word documents while limiting document size.

i am dragging and dropping some iPhoto '09 shots of plants into a Word 2008 document. 14 shots in 7 pages adds up to a ms word doc. of almost 1/4 Gig. i am not sure why the size has gotten so large - my photos are usually in the 2 to 7 meg range.
i pulled out all the photos from the document via picture clipping and the total size is 34.8 mb. the MS Word 2008 document containing all the photos and a little text is 227 meg.
i put one 3 meg photo in a new word test document resulting in a 34.8 meg ms word document.
Question: how can i use my iphoto photos in a ms word document economically? i realize this is a joint iphoto/ms word question -- but i will ask here first as i get more timely and accurate answers for the mac platform.
    thanks

thanks for the suggestions. i continued to dig around a bit and came across two ways to solve my problem that work for me. The approaches use Apple sofware, Preview and ColorSynch. The file sizes are reduce dramatically however the photo quality is also reduced. It would be nice if Apple could allow some choices on the degree of file size reduction -- in both options the file size reduction and resultant photo quality decline are fixed. Here is the summary of my finding and how to steps to use either approach. THe ColorSynch approach may be a bit superior.
Two easy ways to reduce the file size of a MS Word .doc with photos.
Original photo in iPhoto = 3 MB, Inserted in 1 page MS word .doc = 34.8 MB
    1. Word .doc = 34.8 MB - First step is to convert to a PDF document
    2. PDF format = 31.7 MB
    3. PDF reduced file size via Preview = 82KB see instructions below
    4. PDF reduced file via Color Synch = 181KB see instructions below
To compress a PDF file via Preview:
    O. Convert Word doc to PDF via preview if possible - note .docx not required
    1. Open Preview, in your Applications folder.
    2. Choose File > Open, select the PDF file to compress, and then click Open.
    3. Choose File > Save As, choose Reduce File Size from the Quartz Filter pop-up menu, and choose a name and location for the new PDF file.
    4. Click Save. The file size was reduced fro 34MB to 81KB
The compressed images will appear to be of lower quality when you view or print them.
To compress a PDF file via Color Synch
    1. Save your document as a regular PDF file,
    2. Then use Spotlight to find an application called ColorSync Utility and drag it to dock
    3. Drag the PDF file onto the icon in the dock and new color synch doc will appear,
    4. Then select "Reduce File Size" from the Filter dropd own button at the bottom left corner of the screen.
    5. Save the file, and the size of
    6. The PDF file should have decreased. 34MB to 181KB
The compressed images will appear to be of lower quality when you view or print them
    Based on OS 10.6.6 on a 2009 24" iMac.
Good luck. I saw one report that at one time the ColorSynch approach could be tailored but that feature was removed in 10.6 Too bad, with tailoring, Color Synch would be good solution for most folks.

  • Word document with multiple sections generates multiple pdf?

    Hello everyone,
I'm a new and happy Mac user, but not fully able to use this. I hope you can help.
I have a Word document, with multiple sections that I want to convert into pdf. When I used to do this with the PC, I didn't have problems. I used to use Click to Convert and I normally used to get one single pdf file.
Now, using the pdf button wit the Mac, I get separate pdf files, one for each section. Is there a way that I can create a single pdf, with all the sections in order? If not, how can I merge the pdf in one single pdf file?
    Thanks in advance.
