Preview not showing in actual size

When you open a group of images, select them all and make Preview open them in Actual size (Why oh why is there not a setting for this - to open all images in actual size!?), why is it that when scrolling between them using gestures just makes Preview show the image resized yet again?

Interesting...I don't recall seeing that pref in the past. I'm using v8.1.6 and it is there. "System setting" is 99 px/inch. And here all these years I thought my Macs were 72 px/inch but Acrobat believes it to be 99. Which also explains why at 75% they looked closer to actual size.
I changed that setting to 72 and it display perfectly. But, as you said, that setting on someone else's system is beyond my control.
Seems pretty screwy that Acrobat itself drives how a user sees a document rather then the document delivering it's actual dims/resolution. I'm simply surprised that I've not known this all this time.
It depends upon the resolution of the monitor used and the Graphics Card used in your system.
Usually it would be 72. but for example above in the Screen shot I showed my PowerBook 17" does infact use 98DPI.
I don't know whether you noticed the drop down box for Zoom level All I have shown is fit to Page but there is also fit to width  along with percentages going all the way up to 200%.
If you want you can set back to 99 and change the zoom level you normally see when openning a file.

  • PDF not showing at actual size

I have a website mockup design (72dpi) created in Fireworks. I often provid these for client review as PDFs. However, recently, the PDFs are not displaying properly.
I've tried various ways of creating the PDFs: place Fireworks png in InDesign, open PNG in Photoshop, print to PDF from FW...
When I open these PDFs at 100% they are oversized. Why aren't they displaying at proper size? It is a problem for a lot of biz Acrobat users as they don't know the proper size to display the mockup to see them properly.
Seems like such a simple thing, but I cannot determine the resolution. I simply want the PDF to display at actual size for screen viewing, 100%. Normally, it's easier to create PDF then to publish mockup designs to the web wrapped in web pages.
    Any enlightenment is appreciated.

  • "actual size" does not display as actual size

If I open a document with "preview", and choose "dispay>actual size", the document will be displayed exactly at the actual size. For instance, an A4 document will be displayed exactly as large as an A4 size piece of paper. I checked by actually laying an A4 on the screen: they aligned perfectly. It appears that this program is aware of the pixel size or amount of Pixels Per Inch of my screen.
However, any other program I use to create documents, doesn't display "actual size" or "100%" properly.
Both iWork and Microsoft Office programs display documents way smaller than the actual size when set to 100%. Its is more like 50% to 60% of the actual size. Adobe acrobat displays at about 75% of the actual size. It seems that these programs base the display size on a preset pixel size or amount of Pixels Per Inch, that does not necessarily correspond with the pixel size of the screen. Since I have relatively small pixels, the documents are displayed very small.
*Is there any way that I can configure my OS or these programs in such a way that they will display "actual size" properly?*
I figure that if "preview" can do it, other Apple programs, like iWork, should be able to do the same.
    Thanks for your help!

The terms "actual size" and "100%" are misnomers. To give an example, if you open an image in Preview and choose "actual size", it will display your image at 1 pixel on the screen per 1 pixel of image. The size of the image you see on your screen will be different depending on the resolution and size of your screen. It does not vary with the resolution of your printer or the dimensions of the paper you have chosen or any other printer settings. The size you see on the screen has nothing to do with the size of your printout. "Actual size" is not really "actual size", as you have discovered.
Turn on the rulers that are built into Pages. They are not "actual size" either but they'll show what the size will be for the paper size you have chosen.

  • Custom Quartz Filter In Preview Not Showing Up

In Snow Leopard, I could create a custom ColorSync profile to reduce PDF size (but not with quite as a dramatic drop in quality as the default PDF Reduce File Size) and it would show up in Preview as an option.
Now, in Lion, I still have the profiles, but they do not show up in Preview as a choice.  I also cannot edit the default Reduce File Size profile in ColorSync as it is perma-locked.

    Ok, got it now.
Needed to generate new filters (Kopy the normal Reduce File size and changed it)
Then I had to transfer them like midnightmac said.
And then it works. I reduced 11,5 MB to 2,7 MB with  still accaptable results.
    Thanks all together

  • Preview not showing photos after upgrade to 10.5.3

    Hi
Since I upgraded to OS 10.5.3, my Preview program will open and seems to run properly...
Except that I cannot actually see the photo that is open. The Preview toolbar shows and I can select the various options. But there is no window with the photo in it.
    Any clues?
I already deleted the related plist files in User Library/Preferences. This did not change a thing.
    Thank you for your thoughts.
    Dominique =)

Maybe deleting those plist files did work in the end - as this is the only thing I attempted to do to solve the issue, since I upgraded to 10.5.3 2 days ago.
It took a few minutes, but all of a sudden, my Preview application was working as normal.
    =)

  • Aperture previews not showing up in media browser (and iweb)

some of my images in aperture projects do not show up in iweb or in the media browser at all....the projects are listed and most other project show all images, but some don't....
i tried several things including consistency check and rebuilding the entire library....nothing works....
this is very annoying...one of the few reasons (but a major one for me) to stick with aperture over LR is the system wide integration....but it has to work....

thanks for that info....i actually managed to fix it by rebuilding my previews.....but there was no reason at all for the previews not to show up....and it actually took 2 times to rebuild them all....some still did not show up after the first run....
i really hope we will see an upgrade soon....some things just have to be smoothed out....and a few added....

  • Illustrator document thumbnail previews not showing in finder window

I am trying to find a way to view Illustrator document thumbnails (CS,CS2,CS3 and CS4) in Finder windows. Other documents such as .tiffs, jpgs, etc and Word and .pdfs show but not Illustrator.
I used +show view options+ in the Finder, turning on and off show icon, show icon preview and show preview in column. The options seem to affect all other files but not Illustrator. All I get is the application icon but not the document thumbnail. Interestingly, I discovered if I manually delete the .ai extension the documents thumbnail appears, so I tried to turn off the +Show all file extensions+ in the Finder's Preferences. It changed other files but not Illustrator. Does anyone know how to accomplish this on a global basis without manually changing each files extension? It would allow me to the use of Quick Look on these files also. I did speak to Adobe and they thought it was an OS issue.

This is a 'known' issue. Try SneakPeek Pro

  • Folder problems on external drive, not showing correct file size

I've run across a strange problem. I'm media managing for a tv show, meaning I'm offloading video from CF cards onto 2 external drives, one is a Drobo Raid (set up for backup) and another is a Lacie rugged drive. After copying the media to both drives, the folder I copy will match, but sometimes as I drill upward in my folder structure, suddenly the file sizes will not match. To be more clear: 2 folders will show differing file sizes, but inside that folder is only another folder, nothing else, which matches across the drives. I've shown all files in finder and there's no hidden files, though sometimes I see the ds_store files are different sizes (8k vs 16k), but that's not always the case. Sometimes if I simply create a new folder and move it's contents into it I can get the folders to match, but sometimes that doesn't work. It's part of my workflow to show that these copies match exactly via screenshots, and although the most important folder (the direct folder holding the footage) always matches, these folder problems are super frustrating as it's not constant, and any workarounds also work inconsistantly.
I had an accidental disconnect of the Drobo one time, and although none of the data seems to have any problem, I fear it's done something to the directory. The rugged drive is swapped out every few days and the problem seems to be on the Drobo. Because the nature of the data is pretty important, I'm afraid to just try messing around with repairing or other software solutions unless I know it's super safe and won't harm the data.
I'm at a loss as to what's causing it and at the very least how to avoid it cropping up. Any help or insight would be appreciated!

I had the same problem with my iMac, first I repaired the disk, then I ejected the disk, restarted, and then reinserted the USB in a different port.  All of my files magically showed up.  I don't know what caused the error but it has been working fine since.

  • Print preview not showing values correctly. (single words are omitted)

    Hi,
When viewing print preview of ME23n , it does not shows the values correctly.
    It omitting the single words.
If its having 2 or more words, it displaying correctly
    For example;
This is the vendor & its address.  (check attached image img1.jpg)
    ZERANDIB BUSINESS APPLIANCES
    Number-122/A
    PO BOX 41,112,REID AVENUE
    COLOMBO-04
When displaying the print preview, it shows only some parts of the above address
Shows only; (check attached image img2.jpg)
    ZERANDIB BUSINESS APPLIANCES
    PO BOX 41,112,REID AVENUE
These values are getting from a table called LFA1. I have checked that table & in that table all the values exists correctly.
I have noted issue is with, having only a single word. (If address or name having only a single word, that is without spaces, it will not going to show in the print preview) -
In the above example, it is not showing Number-122/A and  COLOMBO-04 (Its a single word. No spaces there)
If its like --> Number - 122/A   &  COLOMBO - 04 ,  then it will display in the print preview correctly (where there are spaces after - mark)
    check img3.jpg
    If its having more than one word, then it will display correctly in the print preview.  As below;
    ZERANDIB BUSINESS APPLIANCES
    Number - 122/A
    PO BOX 41,112,REID AVENUE
    COLOMBO - 04
Any ideas how to resolve this issue?
Is there any thing to do with printer settings & configurations / netweaver admin point of view?
    Best Regards.
    Zerandib

    Hi Zerandib,
By the way , since its a standard program, i think that code is out of our scope.
Me23N is a standard tcode but cusomters create Z-Program for printing by making a copy of standard.
You may please check upon the same.
Is it possible to check the results on a system where patch has not been applied ?
    Regards,

  • OSX preview not showing acrobat-created table of contents

I built a nice pdf bookmark tree/table of contents in Acrobat Pro. This has worked fine in the past. However oddly on this occasion while the table of contents looks fine in Acrobat, it does not show up in Preview. It's a 90 page doc assembled from MS Visio.
    What's going on?
Anyone else coming across this issue?
    Thank you!!

I'm running into a similar problem. In my case, I'm trying to add some bookmarks into an existing document using PdfBox 0.7.3. The original document was created with FOP 0.9.5 and Preview displays the bookmarks just fine. But after having added some bookmarks, Preview no longer shows any bookmarks!?
Oddly, Gnome Evince 2.22.2 and Windows Acrobat Reader 9.1.1 have absolutely no problems with the modified document. It might still be a problem with PdfBox, but then I would expect other viewers to fail as well.
If anybody has any ideas, I would very much welcome your feedback. Thanks!

  • Finder preview not showing avi thumbnails on macbk air

Can anyone tell me why my macbook air is not showing .avi thumbnail previews in finder on my macbook air but I can see them on my imac? Both are running macOSx 10.6.6 and I am using VLC player. The macbk air shows the orange cone but i can only see the viedo when I double click and open vlc player. I don't have to do this on the imac. Both computers are showing the same finder settings and vlc settings as far as I can tell.

I'm curious as to why this is working at all on your iMac. Is your iMac using VLC player for playing .AVI? Or does .AVI open in Quicktime using 3rd party .AVI QT plug-ins?
I have a Mac Pro and my .WMV and .AVI files all show VLC media player Orange traffic icons instead of pretty thumbnails. I've been looking for a solution to show thumbnail previews, but haven't found one and assumed it was a limitation of the VLC media player.

  • Video preview not showing?

When I try to preview a movie on my laptop, the screen comes up and it is just black - it's not showing the preview. Are there any settings I need to change?

What exact version of After Effects? What operating system?
Does the same footage play in Premiere Pro?
What are the details of the footage (codec, container, etc.)?

  • After Effects RAM Preview not showing first 50 frames or so - Mac OS

So I'm on a 2012 iMac, and when i RAM preview,  it plays audio but video does not show until about 50 or 60 frames in, its like a glitch or lag thats started recently, so it makes ram previewing from a certain time a real pain as i then miss the exact part i want and it c matches up with video a second or two later, i can't find any solutions, please help!!

As Andrew says, Adobe and Apple are working on figuring this bug out. See the known issues section of this page: After Effects good to go with Mac OSX v10.10 (Yosemite)
If you let the RAM preview loop at the end of its playback and play through again, it should be smooth and issue-free.

  • Iphoto preview not showing corrections with Yosemite

I created a new iPhoto file for 2015 and when I make adjustments to some of the photos with an outside editor (PhotoShop), the preview image does not show the corrections after making the changes. This has always worked before.
If I click to open the preview image after changes were made, the image shows with the corrections made but the menu under photos does not have the "revert to original" active and is grayed out, even though there have been changes. Yet, if I check the package contents of the 2015 iPhoto file to check the contents for the new pictures, the changed photos are shown under previews and  the originals are shown in masters.
Since I got the iPhone, I had not used my digital camera since a June 2014 vacation. The preview corrections will always show if it is an iPhone picture but will not show the corrections if it is from my digital camera. If I export the camera photos  with Image Capture to another folder not associated with iPhoto, then import the the pictures into iPhoto using the Import function, corrections will be saved and the preview will change to show the corrections (as previously). The picture also shows the revert to original option as available.
I had not used the camera since I upgraded to Yosemite so I went back to experiment in Mavericks which is on another drive and imported a test picture from the camera into iPhoto, made extreme changes to make it easier to see in the preview, and saved. The preview showed the corrections and iPhoto behaved as expected. I imported the same picture into Yosemite from the camera into iPhoto, made new radical changes and the preview did not change, no revert available, or the changes saved. Import in both instances was using the same picture on the same SDHC card in an external card reader.
These experiments seem to show that the problem is not my pictures or the card, but it a problem with iPhoto importing digital camera pictures under Yosemite. Since the iPhone imports directly and not through a reader, can it be that iPhoto under Yosemite has a problem communicating with the reader that does still work under Mavericks?
I know how to avoid the problem by this two step importing, although it will not break the photos into the auto-split of the events to individual days as would be if directly imported, but as one cluster of multiple day photos - a problem since I sort by date under View. The splitting by days is important for me. I do not want to sort trip pictures into individual days before importing as I might have as many as 1,000 photos in a single trip!
    Is there a solution?

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • Preview not showing math Symbols in PDF files

I just upgraded to 10.6.1 and now preview is not showing math symbols like PI and the symbol for integrate, for example. Adobe Reader however displays the same files correctly. Now before anyone says anything about why am I using preview to view a PDF if I have adobe reader i downloaded Adobe reader to see if it was having the same issue. Just as a note the symbols show up in pages, stickies, etc. but not in Preview. If you copy the text in containing the symbol and paste into any of the aforementioned programs it is correctly displayed. I know it is not the font book, also i know it is not the files as other macs running 10.5 have no issues, i have the same programs they do the only difference is i am running 10.6. Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it? I tried a new user and the same errors occur. No error messages or an other acknowledgment by the OS of error is presented.

I realize that preview has had some changes my main concern is whether or not this is an issue with my installation or if it is an issue with everyone running preview. I realize this is hard to know for sure but if you are having issues with preview displaying characters please let me know. Thanks for the file name for the plist i was not sure if there were other files that effected preview that were not so obvious.
