Preview of ESS MSS iviews in EP 6.0 SP2
Hello
I have followed the following steps:
Create R/3 System in portal
Created a R/3 System in the System Landscape with the System creation
wizard.
STEP1
Logged to the portal and choose from the navigation System
Administration -> System Configuration -> System Landscape
##right clicked -> New -> System
##Selected SAP_R3_Dedicated
##Clicked Next
Step 2: General Properties
##Entered System Name RQA(name of our R/3 system)
##Entered System ID RQA
##Saveed System as System
##Clicked Next
Step 3: Summary -> Finish
Then Opened the object for editing
After the basic settings through the wizard specified the settings for
the backend system.
##Selected Property Category #Connector#
##Entered Application Host -(entered the ip of my sap server)
##Entered SAP Client 100
##Entered SAP System Name RQA
##Entered SAP System Number 00
##Entered Server Port 3200
##Clicked on Save
Then "User Management"
##Selected Property Category #User Management#
##Selected Logon Method: UIDPW
##Selected User Mapping Type: user,admin
##Clicked on Saved
As the final step in R/3 System creation we must add a System Alias.
##Edited: System Aliases
##Entered Alias: 'SAP_R3_HumanResources'
##Clicked on Add
##Clicked on Save
Maintain User Mapping
After creating a system in the System Landscape we can now edit the User
Mapping.
##Selected User Mapping
##Selected the System SAP_R3_HumanResources
##Inserted valid Username and Password for that system
I then created sap transaction iview for sm04 ,I was able to see the
list of users.that means it was runninfg fine.
Now When I wanted to see the preview of any of the iviews of the ESS or
MSS I am getting the error:
Application URL ':///pz39/!' is not valid! Please check the protocol and
host entries for system 'SAP_R3_HumanResources'..
For your information I have made a user in portal with admin rights and
created mapping a user in SAP R/3 with the tcode hruser.I entered the
login parameters of the ESS user in the portal.
This is very critical. Please reply at earliest.

No preview button or option for all ESS MSS iViews under portal content
Hi All,
We are doing a green field implementation for one of our clients, we have installed ECC 6.0 with EHP5 in R/3 system and SAP Netweaver Portal 7.02 with SP8. We have also deployed suitable ESS MSS business components from service market place.
BP_ERP5ESS 1.41
BPERPESSWDA 1.50
BP_ERP5MSS 1.51
As it is EHP5 in ECC all the Homepage framework, Areas, Sub areas, services are preconfigured for standard ESS MSS business areas.
In Portal side under Portal content - Content Provided by SAP - End User Content - Employee Self Services -
we are not able to preview any of the iViews. can anyone suggest whether what may be wrong...?Hi Sandeep,
1. Yes we are accessing portal through FQDN
2. IE 6.0
3. I mentioned above, its SAP Netweaver 7.02 with SP8
4. Yes, the user I am using has Super Administrator role
5. There are roles for ESS in ECC
This problem of preview is for other iViews also. I mean other than ESS MSS iViews.
Thanks,
Kalam. -
Custom ESS/MSS iview question
Hi all,
The requirement is to create a custom ESS/MSS iview under one of the worksets in portal. For example I am creating a custom Beneifts iview under the Benefits workset.
I have to get the user personnel number to get the corresponding data in the WD application that i am creating. Where do i get this value from?
My assumption: It is stored as a global variable in a different WD component and i have to reuse the component in my new application to get the corresponding variable
I have tried my best to make the question clear. let me know if this needs to be more clear.
Thanks in advance,
ReddyHi Reddy,
There might be some portal events raised when a employee is selected. You should subscribe this event in your custom component and work on.
I do not know if the following information useful for you.
SAP note -- https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1112733 -- with Portal Eventing code to subscribe:
subscribe_to_event("urn:com.sap.mss.employeesearch",
EVENT = "selection_changed". -
Hi,
Can someone please guide me to how I can modify standard ESS/MSS iViews, for example, to remove unwanted UI elements etc. The portal version is EP6. Also, I understand that with EP7 most iViews are Web Dynpro Java/ABAP, can these be modified also? Is there any docs or how to guides which will show me how to do this? Are there any Weblogs out there that anyone knows of? I've been searching and searching but have had no such luck thus far. All help will be very appreciated.
Thanks
Tony. The "cookbook" for ESS is available via service.sap.com (the specific OSS note is attached too can be found with a search on here....sorry, don't know it right off). The cookbook does apply for EP6 and ESS ECC5.0. Basicaly, it steps you through setting up NWDI(JDI), creating your "project", pulling the needed Webdynpro into your NW Dev Studio, modifying it and re-deploying to NWDI and onto the portal.
An even better way....there is an online class available from SAP (it is part of the ERP2004 training) that covers ESS/MSS in-depth as well as modifying the files. The entire course (of which ESS/MSS is a small part) is $500 USD last time I checked....well worth it.
The new ESS/MSS/self-service WebDynpros are based on the Floor Plan Manager framework which can be tricky to understand....the class above helps cover that too...has material I have found no where else but in the class.
Hope this helps. -
How to modify ESS/MSS iviews without NWDI
Hi Everybody,
The last couple of day's I have been searching the forums to find an answer to the above mentioned question. Is there a way to modify the ess/mss iviews without NWDI?
I have tried allmost anything I could think off... Unzip the files and import the files manualy into nwds etc...
After while I saw a posting that SCA files could be imported in the latest version of NWDS, I was able to import the SCA files of SAP into NWDS 7.1, but I am not able to create a project out of them. Probably this will also lead to issues when uploading the newly build sca files into portal 7.0.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
XanderHi Xander,
Some time ago I had the same question as you and as you I tried several things to load the SCA file to NWDS but after several tests it was loaded but without the screens.
I was able to create the project but it was missing many things when I tried to compile the project, the reason for this is that the ESS Package has a dependency in other SC as specified in the SAP Note 872892 - JDI/NWDI Cookbook for ESS/XSS (NWDI.zip File).
When you have all the dependencies (SCA files) it is a bout 700 MB which is a lot to load locally and figuring out exactly what you need will take a long time so at the end I could not use any trick to avoid the use NWDI as I only had to do 1 change to 1 DC ess/ca/padata so installing NWDI was an overhead for that only change, but at the end I have to do it.
I found the same posting as you and it seems NWDI 7.1 has the feature to do exactly what we needed.
But if you want to modify just the iviews as you are mentioning in your post you can do this straight in EP Content after copying your own content from the SAP standard content to do your modifications.
Best regards,
Juan Jose -
Hi,
I have a problem that when viewing ESS/MSS screens in NW04 they appear differently than when accessing ITS (Internet Transaction Server). When accessing directly they appear in ITS and look exactly as I want, but when run through the Portal they have less colour and boxes/text either is cut or not appearing correctly.
If anyone can help I would gratefully appreciate it.
Thanks
KaiHI,
I don't believe its an external ITS that was installed.
Tried using the ITS Theme Generator within Portal to try and resolve the issue, but with no change.

ESS/MSS applications from ECC 6.0 on a SL as ECC 5.0 + EP7.0
Hi all,
We have a "strange" situation on the client and I need you help or guidance.
We are implementing Portal and ESS/MSS on a system landscape as ECC 5.0 for the back-end system and EP 7.0 as front-end.
My problem is if the ESS/MSS iViews which have the data source as ECC 6.0 or higher are available and if yes how their behavior will be on such environment? We should expect errors or bugs or lousing functionalities or restrictions on it?
Perhaps the first point will be if we can implement them? The client wants specific applications like time accounts or appraisals. I should mention to you the client has decided to make an upgrade of the back-end system to ECC 6.0 but is not decided yet when. In the meantime we already start the project for ESS/MSS base on the current system landscape.
What do you think?
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
EugenI got my answer. You may implement XSS applications as for ECC 5 even on EP 7 but you'll face limitations in functionalities and face lots of tech issues and abnormal behavior from xss applications. Not the ideal system landscape.

How to do the modification in standard ESS/MSS business packges using NWDI?
Hi Gurus,
I have requirement where in which set up is ready ESS/MSS business packges are available in NWDI now my question is......
How to do the modification in certain ESS/MSS standard iviews? using your local machine NWDS?
How will you download the ESS/MSS iviews that are available in NWDS?
My EP server version is EP 7.0 and backend ecc5.0......
Can you guys tell me how to do the changes in standard ESS/MSS stuff that are avaiable in NWDI using your local machine NWDS.
once the changes is done how you will upload the same into NWDI to reflect the changes globally.
Its an urgent requirement....Please provide me step by step approach of the same.
Thanks in Advance,
DharaniHi Dharani,
Have a look at my weblog,
For your 1st Question:
"How to do the modification in certain ESS/MSS standard iviews? using your local machine NWDS?" -
1.After you configured your track for ESS/MSS business package in NWDI try importing the track in NWDI by configuring NWDI server in NWDS, goto Windowsàpreferences-Java Development Infrastructure-Development Configuration
and specify the URL where you have configured your NWDI
2. create a project for the views which you want to modify.
3. Checkout and create a new activity for the DC
4. Make the changes as per your requirement
5. Checkin the activty once you are done with the changes
6.Activate and release
These are all the steps involved in customization of any business package.
Mail me back if you have any doubts.
Hope this helps,
Regards,

Hi all,
Is ESS in MSS iview equivalent with related activities iview? I'm trying to make ESS for MY employee as a stand alone area instead of merging it in employee profile general data. But if i preview related activities in the portal content the page return blank, can somebody help me? I know the step to add new area, add service but the iview return blank. Does this iview need eventing with team viewer? Many thanksHi
Thanks, your link really help me, i actually don't follow the step but after reading the first two sentence i have decide to copy the general information page and remove all iview beside team viewer and related activites (which is what i need), so instead of creating a new one, i modify general information page. Thank you very much. -
NW04 EP6 Sp13 & ECC5.0 - Problem previewing MSS iviews
We have just completed an install of NW06 EP6 SP13 & ECC5.0 at the back-end and are looking to implement ESS and MSS. In trying to preview an MSS iview, I am getting errors with the connection. A pre-requisite may be missing. This is our landscape:
ECC5.0
Abap Stack
EP6 SP13
Java Stack
latest versions of MSS and ESS BPs
The system connectivity, aliase, SAP Logon Tickets have been configured. The test connection is working. The userids in Portal and ECC5.0 are the same. LDAP is being used for initial Portal authentication.
With EP6 SP2, a back-end plug-in was required and we are unable to find one for ECC5.0. What do we need on the back-end for the front-end and the back-end to communicate and allow us the capability of previewing the ESS and MSS iviews?
Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Regards, NeetaHi,
Note that I am running EP6 SP13 in NW04 and our backend is ECC5.0. The link I am trying to preview/run is, per Ketuls suggestion :
http://sapptdapp1:50800/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/pcui_gp~xssutils/XssMenu
The error message I get is (rather long....):
While processing the current request, an exception occured which could not be handled by the application or the framework.
If the information contained on this page doesn't help you to find and correct the cause of the problem, please contact your system administrator. To facilitate analysis of the problem, keep a copy of this error page. Hint: Most browsers allow to select all content, copy it and then paste it into an empty document (e.g. email or simple text file).
Root Cause
The initial exception that caused the request to fail, was:
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.WDRuntimeException: Failed to resolve JCOClient name 'SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaData'. No such JCO destination is defined in the SLD
at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.serverimpl.wdc.sl.JCOClientConnection.resolveConnectionParameter(JCOClientConnection.java:493)
at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.serverimpl.core.sl.AbstractJCOClientConnection.init(AbstractJCOClientConnection.java:247)
at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.serverimpl.core.sl.AbstractJCOClientConnection.<init>(AbstractJCOClientConnection.java:221)
at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.serverimpl.wdc.sl.JCOClientConnection.<init>(JCOClientConnection.java:101)
at com.sap.tc.webdynpro.serverimpl.wdc.sl.SystemLandscapeFactory.getJCOClientConnection(SystemLandscapeFactory.java:144)
... 53 more
See full exception chain for details.
Correction Hints
Retrieving a JCO destination with name 'SAP_R3_SelfServiceGenerics_MetaData' from the System Landscape Directory (SLD) failed, as the destination could not be found in the SLD. The most probable reason for that is that the destination has not been maintained yet.
Use the preinstalled Web Dynpro Content Admin application to check/edit the destination. Use the Ping and Test functions of the Content Admin to verify that each destination is properly configured.
Additional information about the System Landscape Directory and the Web Dynpro Content Admin can be found in the SAP Developer Network (SDN) and in the Online Help for the SAP Web Application Server (installed with SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio and available online).
Note: the above hints are only a guess. They are automatically derived from the exception that occurred and therefore can't be guaranteed to address the original problem in all cases.

Integration of webdynpro abap custom iview into standard ESS/MSS portal
Hello all,
Could anybody please throw light on how to integrate custom iview which is developed in Webdynpro ABAP into standard tab in MSS (Webdynpro java)
For example.I want to add few custom fields(which are mapped to infotype 0041) into general information link of MSS.these fields will be created in webdynpro abap.
or.
I want to create a new link under general information which pops up as a custom iview (which is create in webdynpro abap) .
please let me know how can i meet the above requirements.
Thanks in advance.I am not really sure about your requirement. With my limited understanding of that , i think that you have few possibilities.
1. You can let the ess/mss application communicate with WDA application via a Poral event.
2. You can enhance the ESS WDJ component and use RFC destination to get the data from info type and build your own view in WDJ. -
